    Tasteless and chewy lomo saltado.

I should have known better!!! A "Peruvian" restaurant with a name like The Nibbler? I regret not following my instincts and leaving as soon as I stepped in. The lomo saltado was chewy, hard, without flavor, just salt. Definitely will not return.

Ropa vieja and empanadas were great. The green sauce is amazing with everything, and service was great!

Pros: Some very delicious Peruvian dishes, including their specials like their bistek, lomo saltado, ropa vieja Neutral: small, family-owned. Menu, not particularly impressive. Ambience includes mural of the old country (Peru). Cons: no fresh chicha morada. Compared to the likes of Picca pollo a la brasa, this place is small cakes.

I have been eating here for at least 15 years. I've tried just about everything and have never been disappointed. We even bought a big container of green sauce to take to the beach with us to put on everything.

#4 - Tough Ropa on tasty rice w/ not much else. $12. I'm sure it is better on other days, but not today...

I'm giving it 3 stars because it has potential, but there are now much more consistently great Peruvian places in the area. I've had better here in the past, and I like to support independently owned places which are few and far between around here. That said, I paid just under $16 for a lunch which consisted of a very tough Ropa Vieja and a bottle of soda. That's expensive for a par quality lunch. The squeeze bottle sauces were great, the rice was good, and the flavor was good. I would have appreciated something else for that price in addition to tender meat (bread, fries, beans, salad, garnish...anything!) What arrived was flavorful but tough meat on top of rice. I could see a little pepper and onion mixed in. (I uploaded a picture) I'll be back, but I'll try something else. The proudly acclaimed Ropa Vieja did not deliver today. This should be a 2 star review, as it was clearly "meh, i've experienced better." ** EDIT - had the grilled chicken thighs today. It's the last numbered item on the menu, #11 I think. The chicken, rice and beans were very good. Sauces also good as usual. The corn and jalapenos that came with the dish where so badly charred (burnt) that they were inedible. No one with real pride in what they were selling would put that on your plate. Portion size was adequate, not large.

Llapingchos: pan fried potato cakes filled with muenster cheese garnished with lettuce, avocado and tomato

The concept of The Nibbler is wonderful: cute family owned neighborhood spot serving homey Peruvian dishes. However, the delivery does not match up. It was not very cozy inside and instead actually really cold. I was freezing and the woman at the table next to me was so cold she was still wearing her large coat. I asked them to turn on the heat but they didn't seem to be able to do this. So I then asked for them to just bring me some hot water at least. We tried the Llapingchos, which are pan fried potato cakes filled with muenster cheese garnished with lettuce, avocado and tomato. They were good, but I understand that these Ecuadoran Potato Cakes should have a peanut sauce which was not there. For the Lomo Saltado, sauteed flank steak with onions, tomatoes, and cilantro over fries with rice, we asked them to substitute the French fries for yuca fries, which they didn't mind doing. This was really good, and I really liked the sauce and yuca. Recommended. We didn't really like the Aji De Gallina, pulled chicken cooked in a milk, cheese, garlic and onion sauce served with potatoes, hard boiled egg and black olives. Perhaps we just didn't like the flavor. This was my first time trying it so I don't know if it was made correctly or not. The side of Fried Plantains wasn't bad but nothing so special. I think I prefer plaintains when they are soft and not like chips. I think this place is overrated. It could be really great but they need to make some changes.

I cannot believe this place isn't packed!! You must come here. Support your local businesses!! You won't be disappointed.

My favorite is the salmon and I'm always happy every time I visit. Customer service always outstanding even when I'm doing a carry out

I was so excited to have a Peruvian joint near my new home - that quickly dissipated as soon as I walked in. The owners are not Peruvian, they bought the place from Peruvians. I didn't discriminate right there and then though. I waited until I got the food...the lomo was sub-par (being nice). I can't even explain it, it was terrible. Chewy, not flavorful, the sauces don't taste authentic to me either. Ambience? Place looks okay, but it was FREEZING... Customer Service? Great! Sorry, if the food aint good, I'm just not going back. For some unexplained reason my husband went two more times to try out other items...he hasn't been back every since. That says a lot since he's constantly buying Peruvian food (he is from Peru btw).

What kind of self-respecting so called "Peruvian" place serves Lomo Saltado with pre cut french fries??? I went in two weeks ago to give them a try since the reviews were good. $15 dollars wasted because they gave me fucking soggy rice.

The lomo saltado was well executed. The beef was tender, the fries were crispy, and the classic mix of soy sauce, onions, and tomatoes gave it that authentic Peruvian flavor. The portion size was generous and satisfying. The chupe de langostinos stood out. It was rich, creamy, and packed with shrimp, which is important because many places skimp on seafood in this dish. It had a deep, comforting flavor and felt very traditional. The place itself is small and casual but welcoming, and the service was friendly. Overall, it's a good spot in Rockville if you're looking for authentic Peruvian flavors. I'd definitely come back to try more dishes.

Nice set-up but they are still awaiting their liquor license (as of Jan. 2026), so they only serve non-alcoholic juices, sodas and water (for now) and hot teas on the weekends. The servers are very sweet and really know the food and menu. However, I did observe they are either a bit inexperienced, or the place is still getting things in order-- as they carry the food out without trays. I observed one server carrying a soup very close to the rim with bare hands. Now, for the food. An excellent array of varied dishes from different regions of Peruvian cuisine. My husband and I have tried our fair share of Peruvian food both in Peru and across various U.S. states. It's our go-to-food. The food here had its highs and lows. The Good & The Bad: Grilled octopus was delicious with a generous portion of everything served on sizzling skillet. Chorros à la chalaca (fresh mussels) served with pico. Both had a lovely presentation and savory flavors. Lomo saltado (sautéed beef tenderloin pieces) with fettuccine à la Huancaina served over a bed of fettuccine in a spicy cheese sauce (IYKYK). The Huancaina sauce was on point as was the sauce for the lomo--The (lomo) beef however was not. Beef was overcooked and tough to chew. And being a Peruvian spot the Classic Ceviche was a work of art but the flavor and the spice-level was lacking. Finally, I asked for a side of sauce and was charged for 2 oz. of sauce. They also tacked on a service charge fee for a table of two. Overall, the ambiance was nice and friendly but the food coming out of the kitchen did not warrant a $130 bill. Honestly, the prices are comparable for this kind of food. But I would expect better product and less hidden fees. I hope this small business will keep improving I'd love to give it another chance once they work out the kinks-- but judge for yourself!

I got their Lomo saltado and the steak was TOUGH, not uneatable tough, but tough enough to not really enjoy my meal. The fries were great crispy on the bottom and were prepared well. For a dish that's almost $30, they should use a better cut of meat. overall, not a great experience 2/5.
