I've only done takeout from the Nibbler, but it is just a small place in a strip mall next to the Dunkin Donuts and Papa John's. It doesn't have frills or look fancy inside, but that's not what you're here for. You're here for good af Peruvian food and that's what you'll get. My husband and I still prefer the Nibbler over other fancier Peruvian places simply because their food tastes like home cooking, not food that just came out of the kitchen of a restaurant and you can't beat that. Flavor was good, but I wish the empanadas were crispier. The tamale was okay, the filling was lacking and it was a little difficult to pinpoint any kind of flavor. My husband's steak was inconsistent in the cook and the French fries lacked salt. The bite of steak I had was delicious and the fries were salty enough for my husband. The ropa vieja was delicious, but again, could use more seasoning. The meat was tender but crispy on the outside and paired with black beans, rice, and plantains, it was a tasty combination both flavor-wise and texture-wise. It's been way too long and today I had to make a return but this time I placed my order thru DoorDash for pickup. The app is so easy to use and it even gives you updates on your order which is perfect! I had to try something different this time and based on I seen on the reviews the choice was easy plus I figured why not also add dessert too. GRILLED SALMON w. RICE & FRENCH FRIES OMGGGG this was beyond amazing and filling. The salmon seemed to be flattened then grilled which is unique but no complaints. I added onions, avocado, rice and fries which were a good balance of flavor and different textures. At the last minute I added red beans and oh my this was so delicious and gave rice the juice it needed. I savored EVERY last bite, this was a huge portion and to be honest can be shared (I personally rather save some for later since I refuse to share this amazing food). I'm giving it 3 stars because it has potential, but there are now much more consistently great Peruvian places in the area. I've had better here in the past, and I like to support independently owned places which are few and far between around here. That said, I paid just under $16 for a lunch which consisted of a very tough Ropa Vieja and a bottle of soda. That's expensive for a par quality lunch. The squeeze bottle sauces were great, the rice was good, and the flavor was good. I would have appreciated something else for that price in addition to tender meat (bread, fries, beans, salad, garnish...anything!) What arrived was flavorful but tough meat on top of rice. I could see a little pepper and onion mixed in. (I uploaded a picture) I'll be back, but I'll try something else. The proudly acclaimed Ropa Vieja did not deliver today. This should be a 2 star review, as it was clearly "meh, i've experienced better." ** EDIT - had the grilled chicken thighs today. It's the last numbered item on the menu, #11 I think. The chicken, rice and beans were very good. Sauces also good as usual. The corn and jalapenos that came with the dish where so badly charred (burnt) that they were inedible. The concept of The Nibbler is wonderful: cute family owned neighborhood spot serving homey Peruvian dishes. However, the delivery does not match up. It was not very cozy inside and instead actually really cold. I was freezing and the woman at the table next to me was so cold she was still wearing her large coat. I asked them to turn on the heat but they didn't seem to be able to do this. So I then asked for them to just bring me some hot water at least. We tried the Llapingchos, which are pan fried potato cakes filled with muenster cheese garnished with lettuce, avocado and tomato. They were good, but I understand that these Ecuadoran Potato Cakes should have a peanut sauce which was not there. For the Lomo Saltado, sauteed flank steak with onions, tomatoes, and cilantro over fries with rice, we asked them to substitute the French fries for yuca fries, which they didn't mind doing. This was really good, and I really liked the sauce and yuca. Recommended. We didn't really like the Aji De Gallina, pulled chicken cooked in a milk, cheese, garlic and onion sauce served with potatoes, hard boiled egg and black olives. Perhaps we just didn't like the flavor. This was my first time trying it so I don't know if it was made correctly or not. The side of Fried Plantains wasn't bad but nothing so special. I think I prefer plaintains when they are soft and not like chips. I think this place is overrated. It could be really great but they need to make some changes. read more

My friend introduced me to this place and I've loved it ever since! Its in a shopping complex with burger king, etc. Its a pretty small place but cozy and has a relaxed attitude. Cute interior. Every time I come here I always get the ropa or the steak with the fried egg on top (forget what its called...bistec a la...??). Sooo good. And the sauces are amazing. It comes with two homemade sauces, mild green sauce and spicy yellow. The green sauce is fabulous. The sauces are always filled to the brim in a squirt bottle and I always end up eating about 1/4 of the bottle before I leave. It's that good. If you come during dinner time they serve the steak/egg with yuka fries. Really good also. Came here after work the other day with my girlfriend.It was very empty when we first got there. We also realized that most of the people got it to go, but it's hard to imagine it tasting any better. I ordered the Bistec a la Limena, which was a 5 oz. NY Sirloin Steak with fried plantains, french fries, and a fried egg. I don't need to be Peruvian to know whether or not a piece of steak is good. The steak was a bit over cooked and WAY over seasoned. It was really really salty and was very difficult to finish. Thankfully it came with rice, but it doesn't hide the fact that it's too salty. I'm not going to let this one experience tarnish my view on Peruvian food. The lomo saltado is one of their best dishes, steak with peppers and onions and limed rice with peas and french fries with the green sauce...*speechless*...and the just-out--of-oven rolls are the best rolls I've ever had. Just plain bread, no seasoning, no nothin'. The art work and easy lighting give a feel of Miami, the mom-and-pop shop type restaurants run by a family, very low key and casual. I drive from Silver Spring to try this ace because I had heard good things about it, but it failed to live up to my expectations. The potatoes aren't fresh but rather frozen french fries, the lomo is a bit chewy. The sauce is EXTREMELY watered down, such that it doesn't even sit on top of the food but sinks through the food right to the bottom. The lomo saltado is $13, and it is not worth it. A buddy brought me to this place and stressed how delicious their ropa vieja is. 100% of my Cuban friends in the DMV area say there are no good Cuban places around, but there are some places that can whip up some dishes pretty well. This is one of those places. I loved my ropa vieja. You walk in to a cozy restaurant with the wall and deco painted as if you were in a village in Peru. Quite surprising to see the owners are Filipino, so I'll admit, my guard was up. They were extremely friendly and gave us exceptional service and were extra attentive. We started with empanadas. They were Peruvian style where they were baked. They were just decent, but all the other Peruvian places I've tried them were better, stuffed with more, and larger. They were served with sour cream. My ropa vieja was quite delicious. The beef was very flavorful and served on a bed of rice with beans on the side along with plantains. My 1st bite had me in bliss. My friends both had the "anticucho," which were essentially kabobs as they were chunks of beef &/or chicken on skewers served over rice. I tried the beef, and it was so tender and had good flavor. The fries and yucca were spot on as they were crispy, fresh, and not soft at all. The table has 2 sauces, and we used the spicy one on almost everything, including to dip the fries and yucca to add a little heat. For dessert, I had flan, and they had tres leches. The flan was just normal flan... nothing special. The tres leches was where it went downhill. It was exactly what a tres leches should *not* be: hard. As I was eating my flan, I could only hear the clanking of their spoons against the plate as they were slicing their spoons through the cake. I tried a piece, and I liked the flavor, but the bread should be extremely moist and soft. I would definitely return, but I wouldn't order the empanadas, flan, nor the tres leches. The lomo saltado is supposed to be very good, so I'll be back. 4 starts since I now know where to get a good ropa vieja and wonderful service. read more
