New name & sign. Now Hom Mali, crafted by The Nood Bar. Same core menu items, but the menu is 3 times larger with some great new adds

New name and sign. Now Hom Mali, Thai Soul Kitchen, Crafted by The Nood Bar. I liked it before, but I really like it now. Menu is 3 times larger than before, with all the old standards available. Tried some of the new items and truly enjoyed. We got the Golden Chicken Curry Rice and the Zucchini Noodles Salad. Both hit the spot. Recommend even more now. Enjoy.

One menu item was all it took to bring us here for lunch on a Sunday: Mi Goreng (4/5 $18.95). Two of our party ordered this traditional Indonesian dish of stir-fried soba noodles with chicken, shrimp, and vegetables. It was very good but sweeter than we've enjoyed in Singapore. For a starter, we shared Garlic Fried Chicken Wings (5/5 $12.50) -- five dry-rubbed chicken wings deep-fried to perfection. Awesome! I had the Pineapple Fried Rice (5/5 $21.50) -- jasmine rice, egg, chicken, shrimp, Chinese sausage, pineapple chunks, vegetables, cashew nuts, and curry. It was one of the best fried rice dishes that I've enjoyed anywhere. Another dish at our table that I tried was the Hong Kong Style Noodle Soup (4/5 $17.95). Flavors were good, and I might consider it in the future. Service was excellent. The restaurant is small, but very nice. Being on 30th Street, parking is an issue. We found a space six blocks from the restaurant. Finally, the name on the outside of the restaurant is "Hom Mali" (see photo).

Its been a while since Ive been here, and they have changed the name from The Nood Bar to Hom Mali. Still located in the same spot off 30th St. and parking is not the best in the area but thats just how the city is these days. Inside looks great...Super chill, with good music and pleasant vibes. Service was fast and friendly which contributed to a good experience. The Food was just as delicious as I remember. Looks like they may have changed the menu a bit but, still had some items from the old menu as to which I remember and some new ones as well. Everything we ordered was soo good!! I don't have one complaint about the food!! It all came out fast and hot!! It feels like a totally different place with the way they have rebuilt the entire area. Im sure with all the new apts that have been built, there is an increase in business which is a good thing. Food is basic pricing $10-20 per item depending on what you get , which is normal these days. If you are in the area or just want to try a different Thai food spot you should stop in and grab a bite! This place is definitely JB Approved!!

I accidentally walked right past it because the sign says Hom Mali in large letters FYI, but the food was so good! We ordered the Mi Goreng and the Lychee Duck Curry. The Mi Goreng was savory and smokey and the Duck Curry was so tasty. The portions were great for the price. For drinks we ordered the guava chill and the Thai tea. The street fried wontons weren't my favorite because they were a little chewy in the middle, but the flavors were fantastic. Service was quick and friendly and the interior was a great vibe. Highly recommend!

The noodles cooked here are so flavorful and have just the right flavors! Their Thai tea is also a must.

First of all let me say I had a wet, rainy day here in SD and I needed some hot soup to comfort my vocal chords which were in need of some love. As soon as I came in AJ greeted me and told me to have a seat which was very welcoming I immediately ordered the: (Dumpling Soup) Pork dumpling, slow cooked pork belly, char Siu, Bok choy, carrots, green onions, Cantonese style broth, and fried garlic. It was so delicious followed by the (Garlic Chicken Wings) Golden chicken wings, deep-fried and topped with fried garlic and green onion. Served with sweet chili sauce. The food and the vibe was so cool and relaxed. I will definitely be back. Thanks everyone for such a great first experience. Five stars all the way

Service, atmosphere, and cleanliness - great!! Food - fine! Nothing to complain about but nothing to remember. I will say, they have a great list of non alcoholic drinks. I personally enjoyed getting drinks with our food while on a sober kick. They have so many options and I would happily come back if I had some picky eaters in town!

The food was pretty good - 3.5 stars there. The service was...odd. I ordered my favorite dish, Char Kway Teow and told the server I have dietary restrictions on meat and would like to order the dish without pork sausage and chicken. My friend's Laksa came out within 10 minutes. We waited another 10 minutes before my CKT arrived with tons of pork sausage and chicken visible (see photo). I had to flag down the server and tell him again that I ordered the dish without those two items. He took the dish and disappeared. 10 minutes later he brought out another CKT full of visible chicken. I started pulling the pieces of chicken out and putting it in a separate bowl -- I was appalled when the entire bowl was chock full of chicken. When the server reappeared I showed him all the chicken and said it was okay, I could just eat the noodles since chicken doesn't hurt my stomach the way pork sometimes does if cooked with it. He grabbed the plate from me as I was saying, "no! Really it's okay, I'm very hungry and my friend is almost done with her meal!" But he wouldn't listen and just turned around and left. Another 10 minutes later the server resurfaced with a very saucy CKT dish. I was so hungry I didnt even mind that the dish was oversauced for CKT. My friend had finished her meal by this point. Once I was done we paid and left. If I get a Malaysian craving next time I'll be sure to order online where I can write it out for them "no chicken or pork products please!" Buyer beware if you have more sensitive food allergies!

Solid place for some yummy noodles! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Cute decor, and offers indoor and a few outside seats too. When I'm in the area definitely like to stop by.

Although the dining room might be small the flavors they bring are big. Rich broths, flavorful noodles, toasty rice dishes, everything has great flavor and care put into it. They have a good selection of different Asian dishes with something for everyone to choose from. The staff was very nice and quick and the place is clean and tidy. The only downside is what all places in North Park have to deal with, the lack of parking.

Great atmosphere with the black and yellow aesthetic. Pleasant place to have lunch and chill. The service was very quick and the guy was very attentive. Food was absolutely amazing, I will be back. The spicy Szechuan wontons to start had my mouth watering. It wasn't as spicy and the seasoning hit the spot. Hong Kong Fried rice and Dan Dan noodles was as good as expected. Fresh ingredients and great taste. Tip: When asked about how spicy you want it and you're unsure. Ask to get the spice tray.

INCREDIBLE FOOD AND SERVICE!! They are SO wonderful there and went above and beyond to make sure my friend and I were taken care of. The workers are so incredibly sweet and kind. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS as well! I ended up having some leftovers and honestly I'm so excited to eat them that it's all I can think about LOL. Overall, such a WONDERFUL place! Will definitely be back! :)

Phenomenal noodles. The Me Goreng noodles are the best in San Diego. The tofu spring rolls are to die for. We've never tasted anything we don't like. Ping is an excellent server. He remembers our order and he's always so kind. Definitely give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

How big are the to-go portion sizes? Can 2 people split an entree? or should each person order something?

It's smaller than a typical Chinese to-go portion. Each person should order something

Do they still have seating outside?

I went here for the first time not too long ago (will not return), and they had a few seats outside on the sidewalk.

What is the best or most requested broth to pair with the build your own wonton?

    What are the vegan options?

The yakisoba can be made vegan and you can order it with tofu. It's delicious. No fish sauce. I just called and confirmed the curries and stir-frys cannot be made vegan, but some of the noodle dishes can.

I'm allergic to soybean oil but not soy sauce. What would be the best menu item for this food allergy?

Do they have a gluten free noodle soup option?

Yes- rice noodles are gluten free

The restaurant has so much character, with dim lighting and walls covered in signatures from past diners that make you feel a real sense of community. Eric and his wife really make the restaurant what it is. They are kind, generous, and genuinely good people who care about their customers. You can see the hard work and heart they put into the food; they are so warm and it makes you feel like you're getting to know them. It's a great spot for mixed groups of vegans and meat-eaters, and I noticed a lot of older families and couples there as well--in my opinion, it would make a great date spot. The food is incredibly thoughtful in a way that feels very personal. We started with a complimentary marinated tofu salad with a unique beet sauce, and the marinated tofu itself was excellent--honestly the best I've had in a while. I was told it's actually hand-made in-house, and you can really taste that quality. They also gave us fried tofu which was a hit with my friends. Eric was even kind enough to give us extra tofu to take home, and following his recommendation, my mother used it to make a fish soup the next day that was delicious. I ordered a modified pork tonkatsu rice noodle soup, and it had a warm, nurturing quality that made me feel right at home. It's a great fusion spot, and because there is so much soul in the food, it isn't monotonous at all. Eric was so attentive that he even brought me extra broth when he noticed my noodles had soaked it all up. They even provided complimentary ice cream and a glutinous rice dish at the end. You go here because you want to feel nurtured and eat food that is good for your body and your soul, and the cherry on top is getting to support such good people. That's why the fried tofu was our fav dish of the night followed by the garlic chicken. Though do note that the sauce of the garlic chicken is on the saltier side. The wonton soup was decent (nothing special), and we did not like the Hainan pot. The rice was soaked in salty sauce and the fried swai was plain and tasted more like those frozen fish sticks. I did enjoy the dinner but I wasn't blown away by the flavors or the presentation. The tofu was our main highlight.

The food is consistently exceptional, but the duck and the pasta are absolutely must-orders. Every bite reminds us why we keep coming back. What truly sets Kingfisher apart, though, is the people. Rick and Jennifer always go above and beyond to make us feel like family. Their kindness, hospitality, and genuine care make every meal special, and they always make our son feel so welcome. Great food brings you in, but it's the incredible staff that keeps you coming back. We can't recommend Kingfisher highly enough.

The restaurant is very trendy and a perfect spot for a date or intimate dinner with a small party. For appetizer we ordered house-made baguette and French butter, duck liver pate, and kanpachi crudo. The baguette with the French butter was so fresh and tasty. It was hard to stop eating it. The pate was also delicious and the kanpachi crudo was one of my favorite dishes of the night. We also ordered the crispy chicken wings, house made egg noodles and smoked dry aged duck for entrees to share. The winds were very flavorful and the sauces that came with it were a great pairing. The noodles the smoked duck was a great size for sharing and came with lots of veggies and sides. The duck was perfectly cooked and delicious. The noodles were yummy but were outshined by the rest of the dishes. We ordered the pickled papaya and marinated cucumbers for sides. In hindsight we definitely had too much food and probably didn't need the sides but both were great compliments to the other dishes. For cocktails I ordered the nuoc mami but ended up preferring the water buffalo. Both were good but I did really enjoy the clarified pho reduction in the water buffalo. Service was friendly and attentive. They packaged up our menu nicely as we were celebrating birthdays. Overall I had a great first time at Kingfisher and would definitely recommend a try.

Bossam Spring Rolls: Bossam is typically eaten with a bunch of toppings in a lettuce wrap so they've taken that and put everything together into a spring roll. The pork belly flavor was great but since I can't really handle spicy, I had to pick at the jalapeños. For dip, instead of a peanut sauce, they had a ssamjang sauce. Fried Shishitous: Pretty average appetizer dish to share. They tasted great and luckily, no one got an extremely spicy one. Pretzels with Miso Beer Cheese: The miso beer cheese sounded so interesting and was why we decided to try it. The pretzel was average and unfortunately, the beer cheese was very clumpy. The head chef came out and mentioned that this was something they were having trouble with and I hope they've figured it out! Katsu Sando: I was most excited to try this and it ended up being my favorite! The katsu was super crispy and juicy. No complaints here! Longanisa Burger: We liked everything except for the guacamole, which felt a little out of place. I didn't even realize that there was a yuzu cream because it kind of just blended in with the guac. We mentioned to the head chef that it might be better if there were some crispy onions for texture and that would fit a bit better with the Filipino theme of the burger. Chashu Tacos: Comes with 3 pieces. Not sure if the flavor is comparable to chashu but it was good. Adobo Loaded Fries: We chose adobo as the meat since we already had the other protein options in other dishes. I think they nailed the adobo meat and flavor for the fries but I didn't necessarily think it was the best pairing with fries. Or I wish it was a bit more saucy so the fries could get some of that adobo flavor too. This is their first brick and mortar store and I hope they succeed! The head chef/owner came out and asked us if there was anything that could've been better and he seemed very receptive to our ideas.

The chicken on the sandwich was THICC THICC lol. It was a little too soft in the middle and not as crunchy on the outside to balance the texture for me but was otherwise a good flavor. The fries were damn good. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere is perfect for grabbing a snack and watching a football or sports game on tv. They also have little board and card games you can play with friends while you're there! Def a cute spot worth checking out if you're in to this kind of cuisine!
