The Nook has been my haven on campus many a time this semester. Off to the corner of campus, it's just far enough to forget your courses (or study, I won't judge you studious folks!) They have a pretty good selection of drinks and food--my standard is the Rattlesnake latte, excellent for anyone who likes a chocolatey/nutty beverage. Come early if you want macarons--as amazing as their huge number of flavors is, they get stale the later it gets, and are nowhere near worth the price at night. As well as coffee they have a decent beer and wine selection, though the price of some of the beers is enough to make me balk a little. Came here while staying at a hotel nearby after evacuating from Hurricane Ida. So glad to have found this place. Employees are all super friendly and wear their masks. Depends if you work better with noise or not. Parking lot is aggravating to find parking in. Coffee: I ordered their Rattlesnake Late which has dark chocolate, some hazelnut, and a few others. The caffeine content was low in this one which was expected out of a latte. However, they usually jolt me to an extent but I took a short 20 minutes nap after drinking. This was my go-to everytime I went to campus. The drinks and coffee are great, the place can be lively or chill depending on the time, and the baristas make great conversation. While I was in town for a day on business, I went by the UH campus so I could check out all the new buildings and construction around my alma mater (I've lived out of state since the late 90's). It was also a good time to try The Nook Cafe, which I read about in an online UH community. I like the idea of a UH alumni owned business on/near campus. The atmosphere around campus is 180 degrees different than when I attended school, and the offerings for students are much, much better than years ago. Places like The Nook Cafe help make this campus feel more like a college campus. The Nook is one of many new places, cafes, bars, restaurants etc around UH. The Nook has a great atmosphere and I went during the mid-morning shift in mid-June, so I bet it will be hopping when the Fall semester rolls around. The place is a casual shop with a lot of electrical outlets for your cell phone and laptop needs, and there is plenty of seating for guests. I enjoyed a very reasonably priced cup of coffee which comes with free refills if you enjoy your coffee in the cafe (which I did). The employees were friendly and the music selection was pretty darn good too. If you live in town, a UH student, visitor or an alumnus, go visit The Nook Cafe and grab a cup of coffee. The Cougar Blend was my favorite, it was smooth with a nutty aftertaste. Good stuff Nook Cafe. I'll be back next time I visit Houston. read more

Came here for a study date with some friends and was charmed by the very eccentric hipster coffee shop vibe. They have a really cute patio out back! Tables a little small, but you're able to push some together if you're with a group. At night there is enough light to see to study. They sell an unlimited coffee option, and that pretty stellar. When I was a student at UH, I definitely didn't have the convenience of multiple bars and lounges on campus. We had The Den, and that was about it. Now, two years after I've graduated, The Nook Cafe has emerged along with two other places that not only add an additional food option, they all sell alcohol. The Nook Cafe is a coffee-lounge-bar, selling beer and wine alongside the typical lattes, coffees, and teas. They have chalkboard walls and plenty of chalk sitting around on tables for their customers to draw on. You can add your own flair, but it'll probably be gone by the morning unless you're extra talented and cool. If you're in the market for a study place, you can find a nook in the Nook Cafe to break open your books and study until they close. I tried their carrot cake, and unfortunately, it was a miss for me. It was dry and a little too sweet. I wish it tasted better, so I could give this place a higher rating. read more

I've been to the Nook multiple times to get coffee but I've only studied there once. As far as the coffee, I love the matcha latte and the different drips that they offer. I ordered a sausage croissant once for breakfast and was a little surprised by how expensive it was ($4 almost), but it did taste good. I enjoyed studying at the tables in the back. The music can be a little too loud but the chalkboards and jars to leave different notes creates a great atmosphere! read more

This place is pretty great. I come here to study almost every night. They have a large beverage selection (alcoholic and non). I can't get enough of the pecan coffee. The prices are budget friendly AND they have a loyalty program . The staff members are always very helpful. It's a great addition to the university and neighborhood. read more

Came here to get a coffee break when I was studying at the library. Personally I feel like it's pretty hard to mess up my coffee order, so my coffee was good. I asked for light ice with my iced coffee and they did just that! Also the prices are "student-friendly" I would say. Cheaper than your average coffee from Starbucks for the same quality. I also ordered a creme brûlée macaron. Oh my, to die for. I could probably eat 10 of them. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I like their service. I love this cafe!! The staff is super friendly and the music is always good. Many times its full and there's nowhere to sit but who wouldn't come? It's great! I get coffee there every day, their Hillcountry Pecan and they always add a little bit of chocolate syrup and it's even better. They offer a Nook card that I obviously have where they give you the tenth coffee for free, any coffee you want and any size you want. I tried the Almond Joy Latte for free and it was sooooo delicous.All their specialty drinks are great! read more

I love trying new coffee shops. The Nook is one of the most interesting coffee shops In Houston. The walls in the coffee shop are painted black and you can draw your own art. It was my first time visiting their cafe with a couple of friends and as I entered I saw the rush and people enjoying themselves and was looking forward to doing the same myself. When greeted at the register I let the employee know it was my first time and to recommend something popular, since I wanted to try what their special was. The employee reffered me to the, "Hot Donald" which was supposed to be a mix of delicious warm chocolate with Carmel and topped with vegan whip Creme and chocolate and caramel drizzle with sprinkles on top. Sounded great, so me and my other three friends all went for it. The weather was perfect for a hot drink so we concluded to that as our final decision. Another problem I'd like to address was the lack of seating available for customers, it wasn't bearable but it's a campus, what else could I expect. But after finding an extra seat after someone left, our drinks were called. Now I was really looking forward to this, "magical" drink. I took one sip and got a great amount of whip Creme and some of the actual drink. Not bad I thought, one more, and I made sure just to taste the drink and the first taste to come to mind was that powdered hot chocolate my mom used to make me except it was watered down, tasteless, and just straight hurt to drink. It was like drinking warm water with some bitter chocolate mixed in. Now I usually don't mind tipping, and since the cashier who so confidently sold me on the drink choice seemed so sure the drink would be great, I couldn't help but add a small gratuity tip for those guys and gals working in the back. But when I went to address the drink and let them know the drink wasn't up to pay, I was hit was a pretty nasty look, and asked what I didn't like about the drink. As far as I know, I don't think I should have had to explain to them that their drink wasn't the best, especially so boldly in their face, I wanted to be polite and asked for maybe something different but the employee said they mainly offered coffee which personally, I didn't prefer. Now I keep asking what drinks are more common for customers to get but no sure response was received. Really aggravated me as they didn't seem to want to address to my concern so I just said thank you and went back to my seat. I can confidently say if you go here, DON'T try their, "Hot Donald" and I will not be returning here for their business. I usually never write reviews and when I do they're always positive. This is my first negative review and it really deserves it. I'll make sure to never tip before receiving my food as well since apparently it doesn't matter and regardless of it my drink still ended up in the trash. I like the corner, and I like to come here. Excellent coffee and great atmosphere. The music is calm and calm for the first 30 minutes in the morning, but it can suddenly become super loud.
