I'm giving The Nugget a solid 5 stars for delivering exactly on expectations. I thought this would be a typical small town greasy spoon diner and it was. Mayra was a SUPER server. She is warm and welcoming. The Dining room was clean and cool. It was 109* outside. We visit this location when we drive through on occasion. They serve breakfast all day and I love that option. The portions are huge and d the wait was less than 10 minutes. It's a well rounded menu. The prices for the portions are worth it. I'd take off a star for the restrooms. They could use some new flooring, fresh paint, air fresheners, and some decor. The reason I didn't give 4 stars is because the service was fantastic and the food yummy. I couldn't deduct stars for that. The service made up for it. read more

Stopped in on a road trip and ordered the pork loin dinner. The pork was grilled perfectly and came with two sides. I had a fresh garden salad and vegetables plus corn bread. Mayra's service was outstanding, and she was personable and friendly. Dessert was exceptional too. We had apple pie with ice cream and a brownie sundae. The Nugget is a greasy spoon country kitchen located in Weaverville California. I have tried to like the spot, because I have a lot of family members that thrive on this genre of food. I visited this restaurant many times in the last couple years, as I live in the area. It has at times been passable. Some of the highlights I've experienced there in my couple trips in 2019: - Scabby, disheveled cooks (you know what I mean by this) dropping audible f-bombs in the kitchen while loudly bemoaning/berating co-workers and owners. - 50 minute waits for simple country breakfasts while this spot was at 25% capacity. - Servers projecting anger and arguments at other customers because they were 'tired from a rush'. - Customer preference (i.e. a workers friend/regular shows up after other individuals had been seated... Has order taken, and received meal while the other customer clearly indicated they had been waiting to order, politely) .... And then there is today. A family member's birthday brought me here. We arrived at the tail end of a rush. Understandably, we were patient to wait to have our order taken because most of the tables were filled for Sunday brunch. Our order was finally taken, 30 minutes after arriving. This didn't chafe us too much because it's Sunday and we were there to celebrate... not just Chow down and split. Our order was taken, and the table next to us was seated. There were only three people in our party, and two in theirs. Their order was taken maybe 5 minute after ours. (This didn't bother us and made sense because by this time the restaurant was at maybe 10% capacity) 45 minutes later both our table and the table next to us we're waiting for our food still. I mentioned this to the waitress, who snapped at me 'No, they ordered at the same time!' Now, I'm a very jovial person. I do my best not to be high maintenance, especially in food establishments. But the tone this server employed in recording to me was not only unacceptable, not only condescending, but it was downright aggressive and argumentative. For possibly the first time in my 38 years of life, I retorted in kind. 'Hey lady... I'm not trying to fight... But why do you think you can treat me like this when I am paying to be here... And you're being paid to be here?' There is a sweet older lady that cleans up, buses, refills coffee etc. We have always had great rapport in my previous visits. She approached my table and said to me, 'I'm so sorry about the long wait and about her yelling at you. She is very sweet but we just got done with a big rush.' My response: 'part of the reason I come here is to pay for food and service. Neither of those things were delivered today and I was verbally accosted in the middle of a public setting. This will be our last trip here.' The sweet lady stormed off, we receive no other coffee refills or attention through our trip there. Everyone at our table was quiet because it had become awkward and uncomfortable. Allow me to state, for the record, that I had no point raise my voice or agressed this woman. I'd be quick to point out if I did.... Because I, like all humans, have moments of poor behavior as well. This first chapter of this review has only touched on our service (or absolute lack thereof). Now:. Food. Orders at my table: Biscuits and gravy for a child. Omelette, add bacon and sausage, with the additional instruction: please brown the hash browns, as last time they were undercooked and soggy. And me:. Chicken fried steak, hash browns, hard boiled eggs. All three orders arrived COLD. The child only ate a single biscuit and passed on the rest. Omelette: the total for this item came to ~$16 because of a $4 charge for 2 bacon slices, 2 sausage links 'added' to the omelette. Inside the omelette was the bacon that it alleged to include on-menu... And no sausage. The hash browns were charred (see pictured hash brown) Chicken fried steak: (this is the pictured meal) Again with the inedible, charred hash browns. Cold. Chicken fried steak was fried in to jerky. But hey... They did the toast right! Tl;Dr: if you happen to be in Weaverville, one of the hidden gems of northern California, skip this place. If you don't offer outdoor seating, don't have outdoor seating... Went with my husband and my dog to have breakfast we sat outside we were told at least twice they weren't sure because of the smoke and the server has asthma. A different server came outside and repeatedly said she wasn't sure because the other server has asthma but then she said well I can serve you and I'm just like why say anything? Anyway, we left... if you don't want people to sit outside take your tables and chairs in. And if you offer outdoor seating make it clear to your workers they may have to go outside. Let's be clear, the Nugget delivers exactly what you should expect from a small town diner. The menu hasn't change in years, but the eggs come out exactly how you order them. The price is perfect, but there are no frills. The best thing about the Nugget is the small town, make you smile service. Deana is awesome. She has such a great manner and clearly loves what she does. I am a pretty harsh critic of service most of the time, but with her I can't do anything but smile. Stopped in for breakfast last Saturday on our way through. We asked to sit outside since the inside was super loud and busy. After they took our order we waited almost an hour for our meal after going in multiple rimes to see if our food was still coming. I do think the waitress forgot to put our order in as there were plenty of people eating their meals that came in after us. Our waitress was frazzled when she finally brought our food and never came back. We had to come in to pay our check. And the meal was awful. Sorry. Was hoping for something better. read more

I would like a zero star because I didn't get to taste the coffee or water and never saw a menu. This is the only diner as far as we could see in Weaverville. I have a standing rule, if I don't have a menu, a cup of coffee, or a glass of water, or I will be with you in a minute by the waitress within 10 minutes I am out of there. I'm as white as can be, don't look homeless, and was pretty much forgotten about just like anyone else until I went back inside to remind them that they have outside seating. When the waitress arrived she was pleasant and apologetic. The food was typical greasy spoon fare. You can't really screw up bacon & eggs so a restaurant can rise above mediocrity in my book simply by having excellent biscuits & gravy. First, let me state the obvious: I don't believe that all stars are created equal. And for this reason, this place is a 4 star in my book. Let me try and provide some context here. Road trip. Now, nothing wrong with this, but when it's 8pm at night, there is nobody around and you see the golden neon light of Nugget calling your name in all caps....you just walk in, and hope for the best. So in we go (did I mention that we included yourself truly and his hard-core Parisian parents? it only gets better...). Where was I? Oh yeah, so in we go: starved, somewhat cranky (ie somewhat cranky in Parisian roughly translates to majorly pissed off, at best). Nugget is not a dive per se, it's just the local joint where the local hang out (hey, that is the only place to hang out). Strike that, I was trying to be nice: this place is a dive. But the good kind. The food was good, the beer was cold and, and, and, my folks left happier than ever, wondering what made their burger so unique (I meant to ask...but got worried they might not like the answer....).
