This is going to be short but sweet. The first time I came here I got the mussels, recommended to me by one of my friends who frequents the place, and I wasn't disppointed. They were delicious! More recently I came here for drinks at night with friends.It's a great place for large groups because not only is this place massive and you can enjoy your time comfortably, the menu has a wide variety that will cater to everyone's tastes. One of my favorite drinks is Hemingway vs. The Krakken and not just because that name is fantastic. It's rum based but fruity and delicious. Their meads are also pretty good. The service was fast and pleasant so no complaints there either! We tried The Oak Barrel after seeing positive reviews on Yelp. Maybe we went in with expectations set too high, but this was just an OK dinner for me. First, the ambiance is great! It's got a really cool chic industrial vibe that is comfortable and interesting. They also have a fairly extensive food and draft beer list which is always nice to see! We started off with the calamari which I didn't love. The calamari coating was the best part, lightly fried and covered with a wasabi honey drizzle. Unfortunately the calamari itself was stringy. Not a word I usually use to describe calamari. Usually if it isn't cooked well, it comes out rubbery. This wasn't rubbery but the texture was odd and it had almost no flavor. For entrees I had The Big Tex salad and my husband ordered the the chicken and waffles. The salad was just ok. The chicken was tender and the cheese was delicious, but it seemed to be lacking something, maybe acid. The chicken and waffles entree was underwhelming. The best part was the syrup! The chicken was dry and under seasoned. Waffle was solid. Overall this wasn't a bad experience, it just wasn't a great one either. read more

It was a little bit of a mixed bag when I went to The Oak Barrel for dinner. It is in an industrial area that is a little off the beaten path. Just outside the restaurant they had a fire pit roaring and plenty of chairs set up. While it was a little too cold the night I went, I imagine that it would be a really cool place to hang out with a few buddies. The interior is really neat: distillery meets modern mountain lodge. There was a short 15 min wait but the hostess and manager were very nice and welcoming. I ordered the calamari as an appetizer, but it was not my favorite. The portion was generous, served with a sweet and spicy sauce and wasabi honey which was nice. The calamari themselves were rings only, and they were a little greasy and did not have much flavor on their own. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles based on some great yelp reviews, and again found it to be a mixed bag. The waffle was yummy, and it was served with a blackberry maple syrup and cayenne honey butter which were both delightful. The piece of fried chicken, however, was not noteworthy. It was a piece of white meat chicken that was a little dry and lacked spice or any bold flavors. With a comfort dish like Chicken and Waffles, I would have loved for the chicken to really bring me to flavortown. Overall, a pretty cool place, but a couple of misses with what I ordered. read more

My extended family and I came here last week to celebrate my birthday. They do not take reservations (except for much larger parties), but we were seated immediately as a table of eight. This Gastropub has an extensive beer and cocktail menu and the Founders Stout i ordered was so good that my wife even ordered one after her first drink was finished. My wife and I did our usual dining thing, sharing a bunch of dishes. We ordered a Bavarian pretzel appetizer, side salad, mussels and a half-rack of their baby back ribs. The pretzel came out first. It was cooked to a deep golden brown color and came with two dipping options...a spicy mustard and a gruyere cheese fondue. I am partial to a more traditional cheddar-type cheese to dip a pretzel in, so I did not enjoy the gruyere version as much...but the mustard was spot on and paired great with both the pretzel and my Stout beer. My wife really seemed to enjoy both her side salad as well as the mussels. They were stewed in a beer broth (loaded with garlic) and served with fries, blue cheese crumbles and fresh tomatoes. The mussels may have been slightly overcooked, but the flavors in the dish melded very well together. My baby back ribs were as expected...fall-off-the-bone tender with a slightly sweet and smoky sauce served with crispy fries and a really unique (and slightly spicy) cole slaw. I prefer to "work" at getting the meat off a rib bone, but i knew how these were going to be prepared and enjoyed them as they were. My brother-in-law ordered one of their "signature" dishes...the Dr. Pepper pork shank. He was nice enough to let me sample, and it may have been the best dish I had there! It was incredibly tender and had a really unique flavor due to the braising in the cola liquid. Since it was my birthday, they brought out a flourless chocolate torte to celebrate...it was rich, delicious and decadent topped with caramel bacon crumbles. If you have a large group this is the perfect place! The decor and lighting is so fun, and they have some super long tables that could probably fit 30+ people! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, and our food came out seconds later which wasn't preferable, but I can't lie, we still ate EVERYTHING. My favorite thing was the Italian pizza - probably one of my all time favorite pies. I would definitely bring friends here again. read more

I'm a sucker for this place for a variety of reasons but mostly it's their Turkey burger. Service is usually good and friendly plus it's a comfortable place to just sit. This is one of the few places I've never had a truly bad meal from and if they make a mistake (or I stupidly order the wrong thing) they fix it. Can't recommend them enough. read more

I think I am in LOVE!!!!! So I have been to Oak Barrel twice already and it keeps getting better. The first time I went was a date (I know right?! I normally don't get those). We order calamari and crab cakes and shared them. I ate most of it because it was so good!!!!!! The second time I went was this past weekend. I took my parents out to the movies and dinner. My mom order the chicken corn chowder. Her and my dad were basically licking the bowl! It was so good that my mom wanted to order another one. My dad ordered the chicken and waffles and loved every bit of it. I ordered the turkey burger and my mom ate most of my fries. I also had a sidecar.... and let me TELL you!!!!! That drink was the most delicious thing I have had in a very long time. I am counting down the days until I can order another one. Not only was the food DELICIOUS, the service was quite amazing that a left a great tip. Our waitress was extremely nice, patient and offered up quite a few tips/suggestions. To top everything all off, I just love the decor and atmosphere of the place. It has an amazing fire pit outside, the couches inside are beautiful (to the point I want them in my house), even the bathroom had quotes that made me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. Pretty disappointed in this restaurant overall. We were seated promptly, the atmosphere seemed nice and the server was friendly but that was as pleasant as the experience went. We ordered the "butchers board" as an appetizer. It was $19 for some cubes of old/hard cheese, a few slices of deli meat, four pickles, a handful of olives, really hard French bread, and a grilled sausage. A pretty poor excuse for a renamed charcuterie board. My husband got a sandwich that had a half burnt chicken breast in it. We assumed since it was a club-style sandwich that it would be slices of chicken, not a thin chicken breast. I had the Ahi Tuna Tacos with the "house slaw". The tuna tacos would have been good but there were three different sauces on it, guacamole (which was brown) sweet chili sauce, and a BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce wasn't mentioned on the menu that I recall, so that was a surprise. The three sauces overpowered the flavor of the ahi tuna, so I couldn't really comment on if that was good or not. read more

The menu is diverse but almost in a way that is confusing. It's as if there is no real brand or vision. It seems as if they just kind of threw a mosh of items on a menu. The manager and staff here are amazing. I flew in from Philadelphia and was looking for a great local spot. The manager got me a seat at the bar. People around me had great conversations and were very welcoming. It was Tuesday and there were specials on margaritas and tacos. I had a shrimp taco, pork taco, and ahi taco. All were fabulous. Visited there tonight with our relatives. Food was ok, the Old Fashioned made with Angels Envy was $38! WTH? Way overpriced for that drink combination. If the waitress had told us the drink would be $38 I would have passed. The menu price was $14 for the Bourbon, enough said. Like some places they're automatically adding a 20% gratuity. I don't mind paying a tip based on your attentiveness, food quality and atmosphere. A tip should be an individual choice not a pre determined choice. Not a good experience. read more

Highly recommend! I was in town two days and suggested going back for a second visit it was so good! Opted for some popcorn while waiting for our full party to arrive. The Open-face pulled pork BBQ was amazing! The serving size was huge! I made two meals from it. The jalapeño cornbread had flavor without heat. My friend ordered the Yucatán BBQ Pork tacos which came with three tacos. She sent me home with one leftover. I didn't realize how much pork was in such a small taco. Delicious a day later leftover. We sat in the dining room which was nearly empty - based upon our in between meal timing I am sure. The food was really delicious, unfortunately our hostess and waitress were very rude and not at all accommodating to our party. We came in around 945 and our hostess rolled her eyes when we ask to be sat at a table instead of a booth. the waitress rushed us to order meals before even asking if we wanted waters or drinks, claiming that the kitchen was closing soon, Then walked off halfway into us placing our order and didn't come back for another 10 minutes. (She was an older woman, maybe in her late 50s, and seemed really out of it. ) She didn't give us enough menus so we had to pass what we had around the table and huffed when we asked for a few extra. She was very short with us and didn't want to explain what some of the favorite items were, etc. Then she charged me 30.00 for a single old fashion w mid level quality bourbon and then automatic added a 20% tip to the bill, when I was always told that restaurant don't do that unless your party is over 8 people. I had such high hopes for the restaurant, but the wait staff definitely needs some work. First time at the Oak Barrel and we were impressed with the great service and food. Service from beginning to opening the door as we exited, everyone was very friendly and Hannah did a great job making sure we were taken care of throughout our meal and the food was excellent. We had the pulled pork dish and the presentation and flavors were top notch. Our friends had a burger and though it did not look like 9 oz the were very happy with their choice. We finished it of with the brownie dessert which we shared and was not disappointed. We will definitely return here for another get together as it is a half way point with our friends. It will also be a nice spot to finish off a long bike ride as they are near the tow path bike trail. Good job everyone! read more

Ordered the blood Sangria, not the best but not the worst. We had Chicken Tacos - just okay, Pork Tacos - good, Grilled Cheese and Mashed Potatoes both came out after all the other food and both were cold and beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes not great. I came in on a Saturday night around 7. It was a beautiful day outside. I hoped to sit on their lovely patio but with the limited seating for social distancing there was a 20 minute wait. I decided to just get a seat inside. I was seated around the corner from the hostess desk facing a lovely fireplace. I loved the decor here. A rustic log cabin feel. Lots of space and high ceilings. I noticed there was some upstairs seating but it looked like it was currently closed. This place would be great for large groups with lots of seating. But due to covid19 parties of over 10 are prohibited. I noticed a group of 12 people seated for a birthday celebration were split up into groups of 6 with space in between them. Staff wear masks and there is someone going around to clean and sanitize areas. The owners are taking the extra precautions for your safety. Curbside to go orders are still active as there are parking spots reserved for that. I started to feel uneasy when I was first sat. I was waiting for my friend to arrive.I sat there for a little while without being greeted. I never saw a server walk around in the area. Just what looked like a manager and a busser/cleaner. Another manager finally came over to ask if I had been greeted and I said no. He said he would go get a someone to help me. He brought over a couple paper menus and my server Bob came over and finally greeted me. I ordered a pomegranate green iced tea which was good. They have a nice menu with a little bit of everything. Everything is advertised to be locally sourced. I ordered the turkey burger which comes with cheddar cheese and fresh cut fries. Everything tasted great and I really liked the fresh cut fries. My friend got the spicy shrimp tacos. Comes with 3 soft tortilla tacos and chips. He said he enjoyed them. We both enjoyed the food. And have no complaints there. Everything was fine until the server brought over the credit card receipt and basically said he can't except credit card tips because he is still on employment. I was taken back by that. My friend had no idea what he was talking about so he asked if he could tip with cash and the server said oh yeah! Hmmmmmm. As a fellow server I knew exactly what he was doing and it was a big slap I. The face since I am back to work full time and working hard for my money, not continuing to live off the government. That's just me though. What you do and what makes you happy, just do you. But don't tell me that I shouldn't tip you on a credit card. After awhile just sitting stunned, I asked to have my server come back over so I could ask him a question. He said that since he was only part time, he was still on unemployment so he was saying you don't have to tip because he is going to be paid anyways (IF you make less than your weekly unemployment amount, if you claim more you don't get anything including that extra 600) so he is trying to save me money....am I the only one who thinks this is crazy??? His attitude changed after that and started to get defensive. He doesn't have to claim cash tips but does have to claim credit card tips.. am I the only table he said this to or does he do it to all his tables who pay with credit card? I'm all for helping my fellow servers during this tough time in our business and have done so during the quarantine. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. Someone who obviously doesn't want to be there and doesn't want your tip. We just walked out. This was the first time in my entire life that I have not left a tip after dining in. I was flabbergasted. I kept thinking about it ever since I left. My mind is blown. But I'll just sit here and sip my tea. I loved the environment and the food but the server just ruined my experience. I don't live in the area so I don't see myself rushing to come back but if I do, I sure hope to not have that server. read more

We went here as a party of 9, which the restaurant was able to accommodate with a reservation. The interior is cool with dark woods and a distillery feel. Bar looked fun and they also had outdoor seating. Nice cocktail menu, including an Aviation, which I don't find everywhere. Very nice draft beer list was enjoyed by others. We started with the pretzel and calamari, which were both good. I had the duck confit mac & cheese, which was very tasty with actual cheese inside, though my nephew got the kids mac & cheese which was the same size and 10 dollars cheaper, minus the duck bits. Chicken & waffles were the most popular item ordered, which had overall good reviews, though some said the chicken was on the dry side (this was the same feedback on the ribs). First, one reason for the star off is mainly the service. Food takes awhile to come, and my waiter was rude with me at one point and very awkward with my table. Besides that, the food is to die for. The fish and chips were amazingly! The fried fish melted in my mouth, and the fries were great as well. I've also had the Egg Burger, and it exceeded my expectations! The burger is big, but it's better than anything you'll get at a fair or game night! The brownie sundae is the perfect dessert with the decadent chocolate and sweet milky ice cream, although it is pricey! The outdoor seating is very nice as well as the inside, where cute little lightbulbs hang from the ceiling. Ahhhh The Oak Barrel.... This place is near and dear to me for many reasons. I'll start off by saying that Oak Barrel has delicious food and drinks. Its always my go to place to eat! I always recommend The Oak Barrel to others looking for something new. I think I've had almost everything on the menu and I've never been disappointed. Side note: I used to work here and this place is top notch inside and out. It's located by the Cinemark in Valley View and it's totally worth any travel to get there. Christmas time is one of my favorite times of the year to be at the Oak Barrel because it's beautifully decorated for the holiday. No matter the holiday, the Oak Barrel is spacious and has amazing decor including the light fixtures. Stop in ASAP to try their delicious food and drinks and receive great service too! read more
