We've eaten there before & the food was good. Prices were a few dollars more than other restaurants near by, but we like to support local businesses. We went there last night (Fri) and were shocked at the increased pricing. Of course, it would too embarrassing to get up & leave, so I ordered my favorite ( pork chops) which had an increase of $6 ($25 instead of $18) & my husband ordered the Salisbury steak. He automatically ordered coffee, but was shocked when he had to pay $4.25. Then we got the dinner!! The food was so bad that we couldn't eat it. We boxed it up & brought it home. We FINALLY got to eat here. Over the last 20 something years we tried 3 times only to not get served. It's actually quite nice inside with a country type atmosphere. Better than I remembered. There's several animals on display which I liked. Menu is full of "diner" type meals. Meatloaf, Salisbury steak, etc. I had the chicken cordon blue which was quite good but a touch salty. Took a chance on this place this morning, looked like a cool spot, not sure how the food tastes because after almost 45 mins of drinking coffee the waitress still hadn't taken our order it was only 2 of us and she took 2 other orders for people that were seated way after us we had to walk out after we finally noticed she took orders for a party of 10 and a party of 8. I'm a resident of this area, but I had not visited this restaurant in a long time. We had some visitors from out of state and were looking for a place to have breakfast. We had a party of 9 and were able to be seated immediately on a Sunday. The food was served hot and served in a timely manner. The wait staff kept up on our coffee refills and made this an overall pleasurable experience. My only complaint was the small zoo outside the front doors. There was a fish pond and some parrots perched above that. The problem arises from the loud screeching from the birds, which would punctuate our conversation. It would also be nice if the restaurant interior was more open and bright. If you don't mind these things, the food was worth it. read more

This was our second time eating here. We received prompt, friendly service and good food both times. We've ordered chicken fried steak, beef steak, tuna melt and more. Everything we've ordered has been delicious. The green beans were slightly overcooked, but were still tasty. We had our dogs with us as we had been on a hike in Oak Glen. The servers were dog lovers and we felt welcome. Their outdoor heated patio is ideal for customers with dogs. It was a little chilly but we didn't mind as we'd just been on a hike. We love seeing the parrots. We like the country ambiance. We prefer family restaurants over chain restaurants. They have a very extensive menu consisting of breakfast, lunch, dinner. Larry was at the restaurant the same day I was. He was irrational and attempted to leave without paying his bill. The service was excellent despite how rude he was being and causing a scene for everyone who was attempting to enjoy a nice Sunday breakfast. The service charge has to do with their POS system, or defeated. Kind of like the cube the system charges customers a service fee. Came here with my wife and two children. ordered two ribeye and shrimp combos , a kids cheese burger and kids chicken nuggets. Steak dinners came with soup and salad , ordered clam chowder. The steaks were two of the worst steaks I've almost ever seen come out of an actual restaurant. I'd be embarrassed to make such a low caliber of steak even in my own home. I think a Hungry Man TV steak Dinner would have come with a better steak. The clam chowder was awful, zero taste or flavor , I thought maybe I had corona virus for a second because I couldn't taste any hint of flavor at all. Like zero Steaks came with broccoli on the side , it was unseasoned, soaking wet and soft. The kids Cheese burger and chicken nuggets came out as expected. Not terrible but def not fantastic. Our waitress was sweet and very nice She was the only waitress for the whole restaurant at the time so service was a little slow from her. But if you don't let that kind of thing bother what you're going to eat. The sandwiches were very good. The Philly cheese steak is crisps of steak with grilled onions and peppers in a nice roll. I was so shocked at the dinner i ordered.. Won't try again. Spent abot 15.00 plus a tip on the liver, And onions order. I specifically ask if the cook was OK with cooking liver. Nice little waitress went back, and ask. I explained some people are just not that comfortable with cooking liver. I realized that. It was not edible . Tough.. unbelievable. Well, it was my first time going to The Oak House but it will definitely not be my last. It's Yucaipa's best kept secret lol. It is stuck off the street behind a Mexican restaurant. I liked the outside decor, very rustic. My wife and I stopped by for breakfast, I had the bacon and eggs with a short stack, spot on and my wife had the California omelette and OMG, every bite was "full of flavor". This place is a hoot! There is a chicken outside wandering around and every once you can hear it. The waitress said there are two named "pickles" and "Onions". There is so much to look at as you enter... the restaurant is spacious and roomy with lots of fun western/country type decor. We arrived at 11:30 on Sunday morning, the breakfast crowd was winding down, and we both decided to order from the Dinner menu - such a treat. I had pork chops and my man had fried chicken. It came with an iceberg salad, mashed taters, gravy, toast and veggies. Everything was fresh and the waitress said the mashed taters were made from real potatoes - yay!! Don't recommend. My husband and I stopped here for dinner. He got the steak and shrimp. The steak was extremely thin, dry, and overdone, Which equals tough. The vegetables We're overdone and not very tasty. Mashed potatoes same thing grabby wasn't good either. We sent the steak back the second one came out exactly the same actually it was more tough. Send it back and got chicken fried steak. Gravy was tasteless. We get chicken fried steak and a lot of restaurants this was probably the worst. I got chicken cordon bleu which was surprisingly good, it's presentation could have been much better but overall the chicken was tender and tasty. The salad was fresh the dressing was pretty good. My husband used the bathroom on the way out he said the seat was falling off the toilet and the bathroom was dirty. We will not be back. For a Friday night at 530 there were only about 5 tables total I don't know what's happened to this restaurant it used to be packed. This place really get's a 3.5 stars. I came here with my sister one night after coming home from some place. I really wanted to try this place out because I saw it here on Yelp. At first the place was a bit hard to find. Only because the actual restaurant is in the back. They do have a huge wagon that everyone can see, but you'd have to be looking for that; it was dark so I wasn't even looking for it. When we approached the place, there was hardly anyone in there. It looked very old western (it actually reminded me of Oregon Trail!) We thought it was closed too. My sister didn't want to eat here (kind of) because it was desolate looking and no one was inside. I went in to look at the menu and told her to come on in. The hostess 'kind-of' greeted us. She was busy doing other stuff, so when I went in alone, she didn't say anything, but when I called my sister to come in, she greeted us. The inside is like western/country themed. It's nothing fancy nor modern. You can tell it's been there for a while. She sat us down and we looked over their menu. It was a pretty big menu I have to say. I ordered their "Seven-star breakfast" which included eggs, french toast, 5 silver dollar pancakes and bacon. No it doesn't come with hashbrowns, but with all that food, you seriously don't need it. Overall the food was good. I would definitely come back here for breakfast if I'm ever in the area again. It's not something I would go out of my way for though. I do plan on going back to try the other food too. The service is pretty good too. They don't forget you're there and they keep your drinks filled. I wouldn't suggest going late at night (or about an hour before they close on a Sunday, half of the place is dark and when you sit next to it, it's kind of creepy.)
