A rare good find in Longview, but with a bit of a catch. Let me start out by saying the service was terrible. We sat outside and were told someone would be right with us. Five minutes passed. Then ten. Then twenty. After nearly a half hour of us sitting there hungry (and without even a glass of water or menu), we were on the verge of walking out. FINALLY someone came to our table with water and a menu. I get that they were busy and it was getting towards the end of happy hour, but DAMN. 1/5 stars for the service. Well, we placed our drink order next. An old fashioned type drink for my boyfriend and a pineapple passion fruit martini for me (can't remember the specific drink names). And wow. We were very pleasantly surprised. My boyfriend's old fashioned was warming and had some nice flavor from the creative addition of torched basil. My drink was sweet and delicious, though could have been just a touch stronger. Still really good - I'd come back just to sample some of their other drinks. 4.5/5 stars for the drinks Our food came out next, and again, we were impressed! My Cuban sandwich was hot and fresh and so so delicious, and my boyfriend got a sandwich with a pretzel bun that he just loved. Came in for a quick drink with my daughter and was served the most delicious drinks and had the greatest service! Our bartender, Michael, has definitely perfected craft cocktails. Just passing through going home from Portland to Seattle and decided to stop for breakfast. What a beautiful little place in the middle of a small town! Prices were amazing for breakfast compared to the big cities. It was $15 for my boyfriend and I to have breakfast and coffee. The biscuits and bagel were homemade and were very good. Went there for a birthday gathering at lunchtime in a group of 8. Our waitress held her own even though it was her first day and the manager helped her distribute all of the separate checks at the end of the meal. I like that the food is very fresh. I had the Black Forest Ham Ciabatta. I did go to the website the night before to look at the menu and noticed that nearly everything was at least 50 cents more at the restaurant than what was listed on the website. I do think that the prices are a little high, but my main suggestion is at they need to have salad dressing choices. There is only a house dressing and it tastes like mayonnaise. In Longview at lunchtime I searched Yelp, liked the eclectic menu at The Office, so went for lunch. The decor was comfy. Our server/bartender was fun and executed an excellent cappuccino. Why the 2 stars? We both ordered the Prime Rib Cheddar Melt on soft ciabatta. The plates were beautiful with a creative wedge salad in one corner of the square plate and the neatly presented sandwich in the other. But wait. Is that prime rib? No. The meat in our sandwiches was pressed deli style roast beef--not prime rib--not even house roasted beef. When our server check back about 15 minutes later (she was the only waitstaff we saw and a couple of other tables had arrived), we pointed out that the beef was no where close to being prime rib. She replied, "Oh, really? I'll have to tell them." She then deftly changed the subject. We received no explanation, excuse or apology from the kitchen.Hmm. read more

When you first walk into this place, you might think you are in Portland or Seattle. Inside is cold (AC was blasting way too hard), dark, and VERY LOUD. I had to yell to speak to my dinner date.The atmosphere seems to be a bit pretentious for the location. I was there on a Friday evening and the place was empty. I should have taken this as a sign, but my husband and I decided to still give the place a shot. We ordered drinks and appetizers (mini crab cakes and the cran-apple baked brie). We received our food in a scaring short amount of time. Again this should have been a sign. I was very disappointed with the food. I have made better baked brie at home. In fact this brie was not baked, but rather poorly microwaved - it wasn't even heated up in the middle! We decided to leave after the appetizers. I come to Longview often enough. Usually it's to visit the in-laws. Since I'm driving so far away from home, I'm usually there the next day, in the morning, and I want breakfast. The number of places in Longview that have great eats are few and far between. Breakfast is worse. So the in-laws offered this place up as an option. I said, "sure why not". The atmosphere of this place is very reminiscent of Earls for you Canadians and Canada visitors out there. Come to think of it, this this kind of like a Longview Earls. I don't say that in a bad way. I have a lot of respect for the place. So what this place has going for it: * Great tea. Yes they have fancy tea here, no Liptons (or if it were Canada, Red Rose). * Great coffee. It doubles as a drive through coffee place in the morning. * Good breakfast. I had a fancy breakfast burrito there and it was solid. I'd have it again, it was certainly satisfying. They also had some infused water, and fresh squeezed orange juice which was also good. In any case if you want a place that's a level up from the ordinary joints around, give it a go. Booth seating was a skosh low compared to table height (for my liking, and I'm tall) and environment was a little too loud - they were busy and our group being older contributed by raising our voices to be heard. I LOVED THIS PLACE. Then my mother and I got here and had appetizers and a few drinks. We were then given the check even though we wanted another drink. And told "welllllllll just to be safe I think we will cash you out." This happened 10 mins ago. I have NEVER been cashed out or told to leave without wanting to before I was ready. My mother and I were celebrating and having a really good girls day and then were basically told to leave. It really was sad because we had a great waitress and were going to leave a great tip! The manager decided somehow a girl and her mother needed to go because we had a few mimosas in 5 hours time. It really sucks. Being in Longview there aren't many places to go and sit and hang out on a good day. But we found somewhere else. We weren't even driving! And he knew that. But we left anyways. Mixed review ahead PROS: For being in a not-so-chic area of Longview (is there such thing as a chic area in Longview??), going inside Office 842 is a surprise. You'd easily think you're in a lounge in Vancouver or Portland. Everything is black and dark, modern furniture, cool lighting, servers looked like runway models. My friend and I ordered a Key Lime Pie and the Almond Joy (or Roca?) martinis and the Gruyere fondue. My martini was a bit strong but I got the key lime pie vibes and my friend loved her drink. The fondue had a great flavor (it was SALTY though!). CONS: For the two martinis and the fondue plus a small tip, my total was $35.00. It wouldn't have been such a hit if we actually got more than a cup of fondue. Everything was beautifully presented, to be sure, but the fondue plate came with plenty of cubes of rye and some soft grain bread, TWO tiny apples slices and TWO celery sticks. As for the fondue, we literally got a CUP of it.....not enough to thoroughly drown the bread cubes and it was $13.00. Not sure what fondue etiquette is exactly, but if you're not supposed to drown the bread and only put a dab of fondue on it, it seems pointless to just be eating bread. So, like I said, mixed review. Great service, surprisingly-chic atmosphere and good flavors, but the $13 fondue is overpriced (I would pay that happily for two cups of fondue). I've been looking for a place with a cool vibe, great food and better drinks in Longview. It took a while but these guys answered the call. I didn't like the feel of the inside of this place very much. I was really excited to try it... but it just felt too... upscale for a quick bite to eat on our way home to Portland; so we sat outside instead. They have an outside patio in the front where we sat with our dog. That was nice. Though... there was a group of two men and three ladies. They were about 22-25 and behaving very childishly/intoxicated... Grabbing a notebook and passing it around - reading it and playing keep away. It was fun at first, but after awhile that gets old. Especially when its adults, not children! One of the definitely intoxicated ladies did ask to pet our dog for a minute. She even sat on the ground! That made me feel more warm towards the group. Though, still annoyed. We had to go inside to do our ordering although the lady inside said she'd come out and take our order. We had a couple little appetizers and a couple drinks. One was a martini... they seem to be known for their martini's. Nothing special about it; except maybe the price tag! This is Longview guys... C'mon! The food was good. I just didn't like to have to keep going inside (i.e. to ask for napkins??!). She forgot to come and check on us at all. Thumbs down for that. But fret not, she did arrive with our bill! Ha. Tip? Okay this is my first review because the service here was that impressive. There was a great selection for food and drink, the atmosphere was pretty hip, but the service was soooo cold. I seriously wanted to ask my waiter, if she's here then whose running hell. Yikes!!!! I'll give the benefit of the doubt that I came in 30 min before closing, but there were plenty of patrons sitting there before and after me. Never asked if I wanted anything else, but definitely eagle eyed me to give me their electronic version of a check. For a tip I wanted to tell her get a new job, but moused out. The drinks, designed by one of the women who serves there are extraordinary. The food is delicious, well-planned, expertly prepared. REASONABLY priced. The staff are uniformly warm and welcoming to all. The 'space' the Office 842 occupies is intimate, warm and fun. How many times have you visited a place and the only box not ticked is the physical space it occupies? Highly recommended. We always enjoy ourselves when we meet at The Office. We get great customer service and the food is so delicious. I've eaten most of the foods on the menu and several different martinis. It all tasted so good. We especially enjoy the wedge salad. The lettuce is crisp and the dried cranberries, bacon, and balsamic vinegar blend so well with the dressing. You get many textures and tastes in your mouth - crunchy, sweet, creamy, and the bite from the vinegar. They also have outside seating which is nice. I'll give it one star for a somewhat tempting menu. Completely frustrated! We wanted a nice dinner for date night and decided to try it out based on reviews and recommends. We were tempted by the red velvet cupcakes on the board and were anxiously awaiting to place our order. And wait we did. For 25 min. For someone, ANYONE to come take our order. In a small town full of dive bars that can't mix the most basic of cocktails The Office is a breath of fresh air. My girlfriend and I went here recently and had a great experience. We were quickly greeted by the cocktail waitress/host, Ashley who was very friendly. We decided to sit at the bar where Dean was working. Dean was very friendly as well and seemed quite knowledgeable on his drinks. We ordered a few drinks which were all good but the Honey Dew Me in particular was fantastic. I also was able to get my hands on some coveted Johnnie Walker Blue which I had been looking all over town for with no luck so bonus points for that! We had already had dinner but decided on some dessert and we had the best Red Velvet Cake I have ever tasted. The decor was quite nice, very classy and quite comfortable to sit in. All the while we sat at the bar the staff never stopped moving, never stopped smiling and were happy to answer all our questions and chat with us. My only real gripe about the place is that they closed at 10 which is a bit early from what I am used to. If they were open later we definitely would have stayed for another drink or two. Also, it can be a bit hard to spot from busy Washington Way. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to others. You're going to spend a bit more than some of the other local eateries or bars in town but you get a lot more bang for your buck. Dean did give us some coupons for their espressos so I think we will be coming back soon to try those and maybe take advantage of their patio seating. read more
