Point Pleasant's Offshore is a refreshing change from the usual Jersey Shore formula of "the view usually comes at a heavy premium with food that is seldom fit for a scurvy-riddled Pirate crew." The ambiance has a lived-in seashore patina with service that is uniformly excellent. For a million different reasons that have nothing to do with quality, I skipped the seafood and indulged in an enormous portion of Chicken Parmesan that was even better than the tasty crock of French Onion Soup that got the ball rolling. My companions all loved their seafood entrees. Damn them. We picked April because it's clear that this is the type of place that gets swarmed in the Summer -- for good reason. The sauce looked and tasted like a can of Hunts tomato sauce. Curiously, the tomato sauce served on my husband's side of linguini looked and tasted completely different. The opposite can said for the.broccoli rabe. It had so much crushed red pepper, I could barely eat it and I LOVE crushed red pepper (in fact, I had ordered some to add to my bland eggplant) bread was stale. We visited with a large family group of 13 and overall had a good experience. We had a 6pm reservation, but because of the bad weather, we called and they were kind enough to move us up to 5:15. We arrived around 4:30 and sat at the bar for drinks while we waited. Unfortunately, the two bartenders were not friendly or welcoming at all. When we asked for drink recommendations, they simply said they'd never tried them and didn't know if they were good. We definitely got the impression they weren't happy having our larger group at the bar, even though it was still early and several of us were ordering drinks. Thankfully, once we were seated, the experience was completely different. Our waiter was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and great with our large group--and the food was very good. I was there for a private party upstairs. As I am vegan, I opted for the eggplant parm sandwich without the parm. The eggplant wasn't breaded which was really nice because I think/hope it allowed me to avoid eggs. It was absolutely delicious. Not fried and greasy as is typical. The food is fresh, flavorful and presents flawlessly. Their drink menu is enticingly creative. (Don't miss their espresso martini.) And the service is a well oiled machine that runs tight and executes with smiles on top of smiles. The owners are not only present, but driven by perfection and customer satisfaction. Food is excellent. I highly recommend the French Onion soup if you're a fan as it's one of most flavorful ever! We've had the pizza at the bar and it's a winner as well. We have tried many of the main dishes & never struck out. It's such a warm cozy place to go with a lot of ambience all year around. The service is good and we've generally been happy with servers we've had here. It's definitely. Go to place for us. We've sat in the dining rooms as well as at the bar. We visited the Off Shore last night after attending a family gathering. We have always enjoyed the Off Shore...not this time. Our server was great, but the food was awful. The best thing on the table was the bar pie. The seafood was terrible...frozen medium shrimp, fishy oysters, and clams were on the sampler menu...awful. My wife's clam chowder tasted like a watered down version of Campbells soup. My crab cakes were full of peppers (who does that?), my mashed potatoes were cold and unseasoned and my asparagus was bitter and lifeless...my daughter and friend had the penne vodka, said it was ok...not great. Our bill was $300 without the tip. There are so many other great restaurants here in Pt Pleasant...like The Atlantic, Frankie's, The Broadway...The Off Shore is no longer on that list. Always an outstanding experience from the time you arrive until dinner is complete. As a non fish eater I highly recommend the Pork Chop or Chicken Parm. They are both always tender and cooked to perfection. Dinner is served with salad that is fresh and a very tasteful house dressing. Kim is always a delight from making a reservations to welcoming you to the restaurant. Service is always excellent. It pains me to write this review as the Offshore has been our "go to" for many years. Since last evening was their reopening after the two wk January break , I was happy to return to this cozy comfortable restaurant. Service , cocktails and appetizers were great. I wish I could say that for the "Chef Specialty " entree. I ordered the Ginger Salmon ($32) . What I received was a extremely raw piece of salmon. I was never asked how I prefer mine cooked - as it was a salmon steak - not sushi . The young lady took it back yo the kitchen and returned with the same plate but now the salmon was broken into pieces and obviously thrown under a grill. The house manager approached to make an excuse for the transparent pink piece of salmon... said I should said "well done". I snapped back and said if it's a chefs specialty- I expected a lot more. ( mashed potatoes & frozen broccoli on the side) I should have sent it back and asked not to be charged but I have never done that. $180 later we left the Offshore is a whole different frame of mind, This was my favorite place for a casual night I may go back .... After a afternoon on the boardwalk we decided to try The Offshore for dinner. This place was delicious!!! For starters we had our children with us and the staff made sure we had space for the belongings and a high chair. They actually had a toy for my oldest son to place with! I ordered the shrimp scampi and I can not wait to go back to get it again! It comes with the most perfectly seasoned fingerling potatoes! The shrimp had a delicious sauce! My wife and I stopped by on a Thursday evening and had a wonderful dinner. The crostini with goat cheese, pistachio and onion was a great starter. The New Bedford cod was cooked perfectly with crispy breading and a tender filet. Broccoli rabe was nicely seasoned. My wife's penne with vodka sauce and chicken was also very good. I had high hopes for this restaurant. However, I was very disappointed. The cocktails and the appetizer we chose, were delicious. However, that's where it ended. I had a Cesar Salad and it was drowned in dressing. My wife had the Baked Cod Oreganata. The Cod was absolutely flavorless. It was made worse by the crust overpowering what little flavor the fish had. I chose the Mr. D's Arrabiata with optional shrimp. The shrimp were spicy and had a nice flavor even though they were over cooked. The pasta was bland and the sauce was bland and watery. I ate the shrimp and left most of the pasta. To say I was underwhelmed would be an understatement. I'm sure this restaurant doesn't care about this review. The alcoholic "regulars" who flock to the bar probably keep this establishment afloat. Do not eat here. No exaggeration, this was THE worst dining experience of my life. The restaurant is beautiful, but that's the only nice thing about it. The booths were narrow and high with low tables. The waitstaff was kind but completely clueless about questions about the menu. The owner/manager was outright rude. I have to eat gluten free due to autoimmune disease. I ordered the blackened tuna rare since the waitress assured me it was high quality. I was horrified when a salad with croutons was brought to me, unmentioned on the menu. Asked to speak to the manager. She assured me that my meal would be entirely gluten free. I asked her point blank: "is the salad dressing gluten free?" And she looked me in the eye and said yes. I was a few bites in when she reappeared at the table to take the salad away because the bizarre dressing was made with a canned tomato soup and she didn't "have the time" to check the ingredients on the can. The tuna was flavorless with an unspecified spice rub. Think it must have been frozen. Same goes for all other fish dishes. They tasted anywhere from blah to weird to flat out fishy. Aside from myself, all other meals were deemed at best "fine", one was sent back, and two of us got food poisoning (me in addition to my gluten reaction). I'm normally not one to post a bad review, but anyone who eats here should be completely informed about what you're getting yourself into. If you have any kind of food allergy or dietary restrictions, please take your business elsewhere. Everyone else, eat at your own risk. read more

We visited the Offshore in PPB for an event off season and it was a nice experience. The restaurant is a bit dark but intimate. The buffet provided was good and the service was excellent. The experienced servers brought water, bar drinks, and bread to all the tables and booths while the food was in another room that you visited at your leisure. There was no rushing you in and out. Guests were able to take their time and enjoy the food and each other. From the salads to the entrees to dessert there was something for everyone. Parking is a premium at the restaurant but they have their own lot and street parking, when you can get it, is available. Love the ambiance of this place. It's very cozy and homey to go for a quiet dinner out. It's dim lighting and booth seating are very intimate. We started with an oval pizza and was delicious and thin crusted. I ordered a grilled vegetable panini which was yummy and I subbed the fries for a salad . The salad was so good too. I've been coming to The Offshore for many years when I visit my family on the Jersey Shore. The location is literally steps from the beach with free parking for customers, an old-school classic bar with TVs, very cozy sections with fireplace or other sections including private rooms. Upstairs is a great spot for parties/events. I always find the service to be outstanding and the food is over the top... Especially since they brought in a brand new chef this year!! Wow. The service was great, the food was fresh and delicious, and the manager let us use their parking lot while we walked to the Boardwalk to watch the show. Already two years since my review of the TOR&B and felt a need for an update seeing that we drifted back to this place and do go a fair amount these days. My best advice is that you pick and choose wisely and you will be rewarded with decent food and service as well as a lovely ambience. Same goes for drinks, if you drink wine look at the bottle list which is more price friendly than their by the glass pricing. Bottom line: They may never be top drawer but you could do a lot worse at the Jersey shore. read more

Ordered oysters to start and the waitress forgot about them. They came out after our side salads (not a hugeeeee deal). We got the Tuna and the Scallops. The scallops were advertised to be served with a mushroom risotto. It came with rice and two mushrooms. The Tuna was decent. The wasabi potatoes and green beens were very good. I reeeally like the ambiance here and the service is good. I just think its trying too hard to be super high end...I would go back to the bar for lunch, drinks, and the raw bar. First thing we noticed was the very outdated wallpaper and carpet / dark atmosphere followed by the poor choice of music (annoying cover artist playing through the speakers). We had the crostini appetizer which featured poor quality flavorless prosciutto and the meatball appetizer which was very bready. The dayboat scallop risotto - the scallops where actually well seasoned and perfectly cooked but the risotto was very undercooked and heavy. The beers we had were warm and sour and tasting.
