Great energy and one of our best finds while in Ojai! Would love ot check this place out while not under COVID restrictions. The place is a pretty big liquor store with a good selection. As of now, the rules don't allow you to purchase and consume on premises, but I think you might be able to do so after COVID is gone. If you keep walking to the back, there's a little bar area to order food and drinks. We just ordered some snacks and a couple beers, went out to their built in patio (they set up many more tables and tents for when they're super busy) and enjoyed the jamming 80s music playing that afternoon! The wings and fried pickles were good; not amazing. I hear their burgers are super good, but, again, we were just grabbing a little afternoon snack in between meals. Great selection of liquor and beer for purchase. You can also head towards the back to order food and drinks. With covid restrictions they set up many outside tables in the parking lot with tents. We enjoyed their wings and fried pickles while sipping on some beers. They have a lot beers on tap and even more in non-covid times. I was super happy that they had Firestone Double Jack. Unfortunately the keg ran out 1 1/2 beers in but glad I got some. Very friendly and helpful bartender. Make sure to go support them during these tough times! read more

Yeah I get it, ya walk through a liquor store but it's not a brown bag liquor store it's a purveyor of fine wines and liquors. Spic and span and laid out well. In the back is searing and a bar. All well done, not Bob's Hideaway by any means. We opted for the interior patio seating which I pictured like Covid tent on the parking lot. It's not that at all. Outside air flowing the room with spar varnish oak half walls. Unobtrusive music wafting through. Host seats us, waiter is there for drinks. We order plus pretzel sticks which come with two dipping sauces one is a mustard seed the other is a spicy aioli. Warm fresh and good. She got a salad with salmon and I got the Baja grilled fish tacos. Handmade corn tortillas for my very elevated fish taco. They were excellent, her salad was excellent, the waiter was spot on and who knew we were in the back of a liquor store. Will be back. The burger across from us with the cab sauv reduction looked ridiculously good so I may eat meat. I dunno sure looked good. Fries looked really good too. We stopped here for a late lunch and had a good time. It was fun to stroll around looking at all the beer and wines. For lunch we had: Dark seas burger: my friend loved it, said it was one of the best burgers she has had. Throwin' it back, cab burger: my friend asked for it rare and he loved it. The reduction on the burger was spot on. Steak & Fries: solid, no complaints. Southwest Cobb: Parmesan tomato balsamic dressing..very tasty. When I was dining at another restaurant in the area, I asked my waiter where I should eat next. He said, hands down, OBC. So I went there the next night for dinner and I was glad I did. I love the vibes here. You order inside what looks to be a massive liquor store, take a number and find a table outside, where they bring your food right to you. They have an incredible selection of wine, beer and hard liquor. I love that they rep so many local wineries and breweries. They have lots of local brews on tap and some amazing bar food. The western drunk burger is a MUST. The sandwiches are also delicious and serving sizes are big. They have plenty of socially distanced outdoor tables in the parking lot with tents to provide shade. Probably more like a 4.5. So nice to be able to eat/drink safely inside again. The parking lot shade was ok....but.... As always, excellent selection of beers. We had lunch. service was excellent, friendly and helpful. As the waiter suggested, the cubano was fantastic--a huge amount of suculant, melt in your mouth meat, thick pickles--everything about it was excellent. My wife got the "Q"--pulled pork/mac n cheese sandwich. It was underwhelming (not much meat or mac/cheese) so I gave her some of my cubano meat and it reved up her sando. we came here as we were driving through town. Normally we always go to the Mexican.(Agave Maria) restaurant when we are here but we didn't want something heavy. We were very surprised at the offerings here! My husband had the Ahi salad, which was loaded with Ahi and. avocado, and I had the tuna tartare both were really tasty. Of course we had fries to go with, and those were perfectly cooked. The barbecue sauce that came with it is absolutely amazing. I don't know if they make it from scratch or watt but if they do, they should bottle and sell it because I want it at home We will definitely be back! read more

Vibey little restaurant tucked away at the back of the very awesome liquor store. Friendly and attentive service, and a crazy good menu. Tonight we got the tacos, fish taco plate, and cauliflower taco plate. So good; the fish was cooked perfectly and the slaw was crisp and tasty. Portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for the size and quality of the dishes. Make sure you get the pretzel sticks, too. The best you'll ever have. One of my good friends lives in Ojai and she brought us here for dinner on a Thursday night while we were visiting. OMG this place blew our minds! First off, the store front looks more like a shop, the restaurant was unsuspecting looking in the back! Pretty cool how you can buy drinks from their bottle shop and have it with dinner! We ordered: - Fiery Choke (fried artichoke with a spicy aoili dipping sauce) - Pineapple Muenster (came on a black bun) - Cheat Day Burger - The Cobb Salad I loved the fiery choke app! The dipping sauce was a lil too spicy for my liking, but it was still delicious. I also got the Pineapple Muenster, I enjoyed the burger, the bun I felt like it needed to be a lil more toasted, less bready. Cody got the giant Cheat Day Burger, aka heart attack, lol, he couldn't even finish the thing! It was giant! We showed up on what ended up being a very busy day for the restaurant because an entire Pop Warner team of 10 year old football players had overtaken their patio, much to the dismay of the staff. However, it wasn't the hour and a half wait time that was unacceptable. It was the chewy Buffalo Chicken Endive starter, followed by a Salmon Caesar salad that arrived as a piece of salmon atop naked Romaine. When we asked if there was supposed to be Caesar dressing on the Caesar salad- we were informed by our very sweet, albeit very frazzled waiter, that there was only one server for the whole patio. We had already been informed of this, which is fine, but has nothing to do with our dry salad. His hunt for Caesar dressing took 20 long minutes, while we stared hangrily at the salad that wasn't worth eating. The Burger on Stilts finally arrived and the burger itself was perfectly flavorful, but the $2 upcharge Truffle fries on the side were a complete waste. ** Edit: I began this review in Fall of 2017, just discovered it in my drafts in Fall of 2022, and thus cannot speak to current management or wait staff. read more

Is this Ojai's best kept secret?! As I was walking my weekend route around Libbey Park, I ventured off and slipped into this local joint. At first glance it appears to be a high-end liquor store with thousands of bottles laid out nicely. Towards the back of the place I discovered a terrific bar/restaurant! To start, the ambiance of the place was very mellow and quiet, once you step in the back it's like being cut off from the retail portion and it was a surprisingly open space. It's almost the perfect combination for lunch time. The service was very helpful all around, from the man in the front who had liquor recommendations, to the staff in the back who assisted me in ordering a sandwich that is on my top 10 list! Now on to the food! I did not know what I was expecting but it is almost as if they took the best qualities of the counties American style cuisine and put them in their meals. I had the Cubano, the strawberry habanero wings, and the fiery choke which is their take on fried artichokes. For someone who eats vegetables like a 5 year old, I could get behind this. The seasoning alone took me aback, it was spicy but not too much with a hint of sweetness, but pairing it with their aioli was fantastic. The wings were unique but lacked a little bit of crispiness, definitely was not as spicy as I thought, yet had an overly sweet and tangy taste. Finally, the piece de resistance, the Cuban which made my top 10 list. It is not very common to taste every individual flavor in a sandwich but this one hit the every note. The braised pork was so tender and melted in your mouth which added a bit of tanginess to the honey cured ham sitting right underneath. Added with roasted garlic & Swiss, it enhanced the savoriness of the sandwich Also beer lovers, they have a lot of great beers on tap and in the cold box :) I will be coming back for more! Holy cow. A couple of blocks past mainstream downtown Ojai comes front and center the Ojai Beverage Company. It's a "Party in the front, party in the back", kind of place. Dynamic liquor/wine/beer store in front, casual dining restaurant/bar in the back. Unique. First, it's a very nicely designed liquor-type store, You won't find sunflower seeds, magazines, and sundries here. You will find wonderful wines, scrumptious whiskey's, and the largest-widest beer selection I've ever seen. Impressive. But I came for a burger (what else?), so I walked to the back. A bar seats 10 with small tables that seats about 25 occupy that room, and then there is a side room that seats near 80. Plenty of space to get some good grub and outstanding brews on tap. The menu has 17 things on it that I want to try, eventually. About 10 burgers are featured, interesting names and more interesting combinations; sandwiches; salads; and amazing appetizers. Something for everyone. BURGER -- I got the Grave Stinker (garlic aioli; red onion; Chimay Grand cheese; romaine; tomato), simple, yes. But the flavor was fantastic. The meat was so flavorful, definitely ground in-house. The bun was fluffy, soft, and very fresh (although the menu had listed as Pretzel bun, they no longer carry them). With a $2 upcharge for Truffle Fries, this was absolutely outstanding. [$16, 5.0 stars] My lovely gf got the Pastrami [$12.50], and loved every single bite. Quality, sliced thin, and housemade -- not packaged. Service was nice by Jenny, but they were very busy for a Saturday late lunch, and were overall thin. I'd like to see the staffing increased. The truffle fries were a treat and the house salad was not your average salad. We also had the ribeye melt which was delightful with its own au jus. That is not all. My friends loved this place so much they went there twice in one day. Perfectly soft and comes with 2 really good dipping sauces. We were staying in Ventura otherwise we would have gone to OBC a few more times as well. It was Labor Day weekend and 2 of our friends got an AirBnB nearby so this was definitely their spot. We had been told by our good friend who was getting married that OBC was a great little tavern and she was so right. The place was perfect. The staff was super nice even late night on a Sunday of a holiday weekend. Food was great. And the beer and wine selection? You have to see it to believe it. I've never seen so much brew available for purchase. And there was a crazy number on tap as well. The wine selection and hard liquor selection wasnt too bad either. Loved it here! The place is low-key and casual and I was expecting more of a bar/pub situation. While the ambiance is similar to that, the food quality is above your average bar fare. I had the ribeye steak sandwich which I highly recommend. It was enormous so had to take part of it to go, but that could've been because we ordered pretzel sticks too (also enormo) to start. I also liked the clever drink names. I had the "Real Housewives of Ojai" which is essentially comparable to an Aperol spritz and it was light and refreshing. Parking was easy and our service was fantastic. Everywhere we went in Ojai we had good service, but here we even spent some time talking with the person at the front working the register when we took some drinks to go like we were old friends. That's the beauty of this place, you can also grab a can of beer/wine/kombucha/cider from one of the fridges (as well as bottles) since it's a liquor store as well. The staff up front and in the restaurant were all super friendly and helpful. We had a hard time choosing because everything looked SO good. This is a neat little place with tasty food. We rode our bikes there from the Ojai Inn and it was a great stop. Super knowledgeable about beer and even the hard kombucha - of which I did a flight. I ordered the fish tacos for lunch and it was ample and the tortillas were legit and I am a tortilla snob. Hubby had a burger and it as also huge. Only reason it's not five stars was the service. They were understaffed and the server was way too stretched. They did the best they could, but definitely could use some help. Otherwise, great! read more
