Stopped at the Old Brogue on our way into DC for a concert. Can't believe I've never been here before. I love an Irish Pub and this one didn't disappoint. It was a Saturday night and was packed but luckily we got a table pretty quickly. This place is super charming. Started with Brussel sprouts which great. I loved they added blue cheese crumbles. I had the chicken piccata for dinner and it was great plus they give you extra sauce on side which was a great touch. It comes with sautéed spinach and mash potatoes. The spinach was really good. I got the cucumber salad instead of the mashed potatoes and I'm really glad I did because it was great and cut through some of the heaviness of the piccata. I also tried the Fig Chill cocktail and I'm now obsessed with it. Service was great as well. Definitely would go back. read more

We've been going here for over 30 years, but we'll see about the future. Of late, its identity as an Irish pub seems greatly weakened. The "Irish" part of the food menu is 2 or 3 items. Quality has become spotty. Yesterday I got a burger and the bun was soggy, the meat was OK. A couple weeks ago we got fish and chips, and there was a layer of mustard under the breading. The server said that was normal. NOT! Others comment on the prices increasing, but that seems universal. Positives: service is generally good - though they seem less trained or experienced than in the past - and the outdoor seating is great. read more

Love this place. We try to go every week with our kids for dinner. Excellent selection of beers on tap, including Guinness on draught (done well) and Magners bottles. As for food, I normally go for a burger or more recently, the crispy chicken sandwich (see photo). Both are always very tasty. My wife always gets a salad with salad, and one of my kids is always talking about the kids spaghetti meatballs there haha! Staff are always friendly and accommodating! Highly recommend!! read more

The watering hole of Great Falls and neighboring area for several decades it is a favorite among the locals. There are some regulars who are seen here almost every week. The expanded seating on the village green opened about 10 years ago and has expanded the seating capacity in a pleasant environment. The food is standard Irish pub food with specials almost every night that can be paired with Guinness stout, Harp Larger, Smithwickes ale or an IPA. For the discerning drinker there is old faithful Jameson, Bushmill or Tullamore. For the more snooty there is a decent offering of Scotch. Next door is the coffeehouse Katie"s which has become a favorite for the Saturday morning classic and modern car show breakfast crowd. Gross! We came from Maryland for brunch not expecting what we got. Eggs Benedict on Corn Beef Hash was disgusting. The chef has no idea what hash is. It was chopped corn beef with large pieces of potato and onion; no crisp, hardly cooked with an egg on top. The egg was OK. My draft IPA had a complimentary smear of red lipstick on the rim of the glass (filthy glass). The waiter was OK until he forgot to bring me my IPS refill (without the lipstick). They probably don't care about my review because they have a lot of unsuspecting customers coming behind me. The frosting on the cake is the couple of "Joe Biden" liberals sitting next to us that interrupted our conversation to interject their ignorant comments. I have been going to The Old Brogue for over 25 years, they have a few staple dishes we've always compared to similar ones we've eaten around the world. The words, "it's not like the Brogue" came out of our mouths almost every time. The Brogue's food remained virtually unchanged since the new owners purchased it in October 2022; however that changed a month ago with a new smaller menu and creating new recipes for some classics. I can understand and respect shrinking the menu, allowing the kitchen to focus more on fewer items; I am surprised to find which menu items that did get cut. Today my wife and I had our go to meals, long time Brogue signature meals; Katie's cottage pie for me and the Rueben for my wife. Not only did the cottage pie taste different (it did not taste bad, but it surely did not taste the way it has for the past 25 years) but the ratios of meat to potatoes were shockingly different. Previously the ratio was approximately 80% meat and 20% potatoes, tonight the ratio was 30% meat and 70% potatoes. For the first time ever at the Brogue, my wife did not finish her Rueben! Very underwhelming she said. Tonight we walked right into the Brogue at 5:30PM on a Saturday night, where we usually had to wait because they were busy; when we left 50% of the tables were empty. I'm going to assume a sign of things to come. Sadly The Old Brogue has been a Great Falls landmark for over 40 years. I don't want to see the Brogue go away because the new owners want to rebrand this classic. read more

The food just lacked a slight polish such as the fish in the fish and chips being ever so slightly too soggy. The Irish beef pie was very wholesome. I've taken the whole family here multiple times and every time was a hit! Great food, awesome customer service and a wonderful experience. It's really comforting to see the staff taking all the safety precautions from contact tracing, everyone wearing masks, designated food runners, wearing gloves and taking additional sanitation measures. We started with some crispy wings and Moscow mules. The mules were delicious and not syrupy at all, they use premium ginger beer for sure. Mom had the chicken piccata and loved it, stepdad had the Irish beef stew that reminded him of how his mom used to make it. My partner had their popular blackened salmon salad and was extremely happy, she cleaned the plate! I had the chicken curry, it was sweet and slightly spicy accompanied with some mango chutney. We have been the Old Brogue several times but during this pandemic they have really stepped up in every way shape and form. The precautions and sensitivity to customers safety and comfort level was amazing. The service was better than ever and the food, WOW. Our entire party was so happy with everything. In a time where everything is different, it was really amazing to feel so comfortable (and safe) without having to sacrifice any aspect of an amazing dinner. Can't wait to head back. First of all, WOW. This place exceeded my expectations; I wasn't impressed by any of the Irish restaurants that I've visited in the past, so I didn't really expect to be "wowed", but I was wrong. The restaurant is dimly lit, but that's typical for a pub-type establishment. They allowed me to choose my seat, so I settled in by a window and was able to read my book. I started with the hummus plate, which was simply presented, but very flavorful. The hummus has an unexpected kick to it that I enjoyed. The pita was nice and warm which was a nice touch. My entree selection was the smoked gouda mushroom risotto and I opted to add the grilled chicken. "Holy sh^t"; literally the first thing that went through my mind as I had my first bite. Seriously, this was the most ecstasy-inducing risotto dish I've ever eaten in my life. I smiled with every bite and couldn't help but do that little happy shimmy while I enjoyed it. It hurt my heart that I had to box half of it up because I wanted to keep going, but it was either take half home or forego dessert--and I really wanted a little something sweet. Which brings me to the dessert I chose; pecan pie cheesecake. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't what I received-still good though. I guess i was hoping it would embody more of the gooey-ness of pecan pie, but it was more closely related to turtle pie in my opinion. Like I said, still tasty, but it might not quite satisfy your craving for pecan pie. My server was also the bartender; he was friendly and did a great job. He kindly filled up my personal water bottle for me so we didn't have to play the constant back-and-forth water refill game and he was appropriately attentive to a low-maintenance one-top, reading a book. On first impression, I would say this pub is a nice hangout for the nearby neighborhoods and probably has a fairly well-established group of regulars. It has a very comfortable vibe and there were multiple instances where I thought someone was a fellow diner but then realized they were an employee--which just goes to show the level of familiarity the restaurant is able to establish with its community. If your friend group is looking for a new place to set up camp for a regular get-together, this place might be a good bet. read more

Old Brogue, please ban strollers from the dining areas like many restaurants do. Was in tonight, and an entire aisle was blocked by a large stroller which contained, not a child, but a dog. An inconvenience, and a discourtesy, to both customers, and waiters trying to get through. Let's leave the strollers outside and the dogs under the table or at home. read more

Went here for a last minute Saturday evening meal with family. We showed up around 6:30 and snagged the last table outdoors on the patio. While the weather was a bit chilly, they had heaters set up on the patio- which helped a lot! Our server was friendly, patient and made our experience really enjoyable. He gave us the time we needed to decide what we wanted to eat, but also stayed close in case we had other questions. I split the chicken jalapeño quesadilla and the Irish cottage pie. Both were delicious! The tortilla on the quesadilla was crispy and filled with spicy peppers. The cottage pie had crispy cheese on the top and was packed with flavor. We ordered the pecan pie and Irish whiskey cake for dessert. I was pleasantly surprised that both came with a scoop of ice cream on the side. The desserts were nothing to write home about, but our meal overall was a huge hit! read more

The new management has kept the menu, looks the same, but they have changed many of the traditional items. The Brogue has been sold and all of the familiar faces that worked there are gone. Sadly, new owners have done a disservice to the community with changes made to The Brogue. The quality of food has gone downhill. Several entrees have been removed. An old favorite entree, blackened salmon salad, is still on the menu, but the last 3 times I ordered it, the lettuce was brown. Tried a "special" salad last week and the fresh mozzarella tasted old. Casual pub fare doesn't mean it can be of lesser quality than more upscale dining. By the easy availability of seating now, seems like people are going elsewhere. read more

Our favorite resturant fot the last 20+ years is not the same. I came in for lunch and ordered a long time favorite chicken pie it was not the large pieces of chicken floating in a wonderful creamy sauce covered in a flakey crudt but shredded chicken with nosauce without the flaky top crust didn't eat it. Thought we would give it another chance and came back for fish andchips, The fish was about 1/3 the size and lots of breading and very little fish such a disappointment. Greed at its core. Been coming here for 5 years, ambiance was great, service excellent and the food good. Now, ambiance still ok but emptier these days, service still great although they're loosing good people. Original chef is gone. Food is inedible. New ownership's greed has destroyed our beloved neighborhood joint. Portions are smaller by the week, quality went down the drain, and prices have become ridiculous. To add to injury, my 9 yr old's burger got him sick. Nauseous, cramps and diarrhea. My Crispy Chicken sandwich was literally and dangerously raw and sent back. Great little find after hiking near Great Falls. We had a late brunch. Great beer list. The traditional Irish breakfast was very filling and tasty. There are so many other great dishes to try here. I'd love to check out some of the great music sometime. Nice patio (up front outside and enclosed in the back). Staff was great. Seated is pretty quickly and got us drinks & food fast. It was my first time there since the change in ownership, so I was a bit worried that it would be as good as it was before. They NAILED it! Great service and everyone around me loved their food. We've eaten in and ordered take out numerous times over the past 3 years. Sometimes the experience is good, sometimes not. For service...quality is definitely dependent on who you get. Some waitstaff are wonderfully attentive, friendly, and just an all around great job. Some leave you feeling like they are doing you a favor by even showing up. For the food...some menu items are solid, some ok, and some can be skipped. There are occasionally new items, a few are surprisingly inventive for an Irish pub. And of course there are standards...though, sometimes with a nice upscale twist. There are some real disappointments though. Environment...an all around win. Inside is small, quaint, and dark. Feels like you'd expect when you hear it's an Irish pub. The front patio is great, albeit could use some shade. The back patio, which was recently expanded, is a nice alternative to the full sun front patio and the often packed indoor seating. All in all, a perfectly decent place to grab a meal or hang out for a bit with a beer. It gets very crowded, though that won't keep us from continuing to go back.
