Lots of different menu options including quite a few vegan ones as well. The place was pretty small overall but luckily we were able to seated in about 5 minutes after arrival. The fries were an extra add on to the buffalo chicken sandwich. The Reuben was good as was the french onion soup, I just wish the two croutons that were in it were on top maybe, they were really mushy. There was a bar towards the back. Cozy little tavern in German Village. It's been around forever, (like it was once a Speakeasy). Nothing pretentious or trendy involved just simple neighborhood tavern with great food and drinks. I had to try the Turtle Soup (their signature dish) and it was tasty tomato based and lots of veggies. The Mother Mohawk sandwich is different but a brilliant combo of melting tender roast beef shaved with home made chicken salad on marble rye bread with horseradish Mayo on the side. DELISH! We arrived on a Saturday at about 5:30 and were seated right away. Within 20 minutes the place was packed with a line of waiting customers. This is a corner bar that has that friendly vibe all over it. We stopped in for bourbon after a party and they have a great selection. I chose to have a glass of Woodford Reserve. My wife had a Caesar Salad and a soup that she rated highly. A cousin had a Rueben sandwich. Overall, an acceptable restaurant with a lot of old Columbus charm. We had a pleasant experience at The Old Mohawk. We came in on a Saturday night around 4:30 p.m. and it was a little crowded, but we did not have to wait. It was more of a casual atmosphere that is perfect for kids and families. We were quickly greeted by our server who asked for our drink orders. She was very friendly and attentive. We ordered a chicken quesadilla and a Turkey Reuben (no kraut) with potato pancakes. The quesadilla was pretty standard, but delicious nonetheless. I really enjoyed the Turkey Reuben, especially the honey mustard sauce that they give you for dipping. The potato pancakes were perfectly crunchy and were served with sour cream for dipping. The menu has a lot of options, so there is definitely something for everyone. Overall I really enjoyed this meal and would return again if I am in the area. read more

Unique and friendly neighborhood restaurant in German Village area. Varied menu items including daily or seasonal specials. Food is interestingly flavorful. We ordered the chicken ravioli and Cajun pasta special. Both were delicious. Honestly, better than a famous Italian restaurant's. Drink selection was very good. Had a decent list of bourbons including hard to find selections, enjoyed a pour of the select. Artwork around the dinning area was local and for sale. We couldn't help but purchase one. Our server Josh was extremely friendly and very attentive to us, and this was a Friday night. We will return to try both a new menu selection and a new drink selection. On 7/8/24 the restaurant didn't have food, yet they sat us in. We asked for draft, beer and draft was broken; we asked for a bottled beer and they were out of the beer; we order the fried pickles which were one of their summer appetizers and they were out; we order the veggie paella and they were out of rice. At that point we decided to leave and just pay for our drinks, one being a $15 old fashioned. After all, the waitress had the audacity to rudely tell us, "sorry we don't have what you were looking for." We only wanted the food listed in the menu which they didn't have and are rude to me and my children. If you decide to be a patron at The Old Mohawk, just ask upfront if they have food; it will save you some frustration. read more

Still, me and the missus thought the menu looked solid and gave it a go anywho. I got the meatloaf w green beans and wedge fries. The meatloaf was tough, the green beans were mushy and the wedges were mostly okay except a handful of 'em were undercooked. The wife went w fish n chips; the fish tasted frozen and bland, the batter a bit thick. I tried it and thought it okay, although not up w Fado or Old Bag. The crab tots were the best part of the meal, and I'd call 'em good not great. Server was nice although he missed me asking for a glass of wine, but not a big deal and tbh I'm almost happy about the miss bc we kinda just wanted ta leave by then. Every time I visit my cousin who lives in Columbus, we always grab lunch at The Old Mohawk. The vintage building steeped in history fits perfectly in the German Village neighborhood. Brick streets and classic 1800 mansions are the perfect backdrop to this old pub. There are a few cute little boutiques too. But mostly it feels like a lovely residential neighborhood. Inside it's dark with a ton of dark varnished wood and stained glass. You can feel the good times had by many throughout the years. The grand bar looks like it has served many cocktails to it's faithful patrons through the decades. I love the character this beautiful room offers. I always love our meals here. The casual, pub style, comfort food menu offers tasty no frills options. The burgers are prepared perfectly. The soups and chili are yummy. I have enjoyed great salads too. The portion size is impressive on everything I have ordered. Service is always great. The team works well together and offers attentive and knowledgeable service. We are visiting out of town. This is my first time here. Cute little place for lunch. A little crowded and the seatings were a little tight during this pandemic. However, I do like that the staff is wearing their mask and disinfecting each table when the customers leave. The turtle soup tasted like vegetable soup and it wasn't bad at all. This was the first time I've ever heard of Bratwurst sausages. So I was excited to try it out! But it was a little salty for my palate. The mother mohawk sandwich was fine. On a visit to Jack O lantern world we tried to get into another restaurant in German Village and decided not to go with the long wait time. Old Mohawk was an easy walk and got us in without. 14 minutes. Great stained glass and art pieces made the atmosphere very hip and welcoming. I opted for a unique combo sandwich pairing chicken salad and roast beef. It was fantastic. Flavorful and tender. The sauce was a great accompaniment. Mom's Turtle Soup was nondescript. Should have realized my mistake when I saw only one German beer on tap, but went ahead and ordered some food to go along with it. What I got was pretty generic American bar food. Ordered a Rueben which had a few ounces of meat, dab of sauerkraut and Swiss on some hard marble rye - maybe not even up to the typical bar food standard. This was a very eclectic and authentic dining experience at this restaurant. The wrap around bar, the hand made sculptures on the wall, and the dark and quiet environment made this dining experience pretty cool. There was a 99 cent paps blue ribbon beer on their special menu, so I obviously had to have a couple of those. The food menu was pretty large, but I saw a fish and chips walk by my, so that's what I ended up ordering. The french fries were really good and their tarter sauce tasted home made. The fish was ok, it was over cooked in my opinion and actually a little dry. The batter was really nice, but the quantity of fish was minimal compared to the batter thickness. The Mrs. ended up getting the chicken salad sandwich, which was recommended by the server. That sandwich was probably the best chicken salad i've had and will definitely be on my list to get myself the next time I visit this location! read more

This was our second choice the first night of a weekend stay in German Village. The menu is big enough for anyone to find something they'd like. When I called for carry out the fellow taking my order sounded in a hurry. As it turned out, I discovered how busy they were when I went to pick up our food. Our food was fine. I wish they'd had the Gouda bacon bites but were sadly out. My wife's burger was ok. As was my Reuben, though it was light on corned beef in relation to the amount of bread. read more

I started coming here 20 years ago, moved to California but still make it to the Mohawk at least monthly. Food is very good and reliably so. The staff is fantastic and the ambience is otherworldly. Our dinner at old Mohawk left a lot to be desired. This was the first true date night for my husband and I in a very long time and it was pretty disappointing. The service at old Mohawk gets 5 stars. However, the food would be a 2 at best. The spinach dip appetizer was cold, soupy and lacked flavor. My husbands burger came out as pictured. The top bun was put in a pool of the myoglobin from the burger which was quite nasty. I got the meatloaf dinner and it was not good at all. The meatloaf was dry and the mashed potatoes were lumpy. It was on par with the meatloaf lunch you'd be served in grade school. The macaroni and cheese (pictured) had over cooked bread crumbs on the top and was runny as well. Not much different in flavor than what you would expect from a stoffers meal. I had high hopes for the old Mohawk but sadly this place missed the mark. read more

I was in town on a job. I found The Old Mohawk to be close to my hotel and had good reviews. It did not disappoint. I ended up going 2 times! First night I had the 1/2 Reuben, the world famous French Onion Soup and a 1/2 Caesar salad. The Caesar was huge and had sliced Parmesan on it, not the shaker stuff. It was all good, but the Corned Beef was slightly dry. Second night I had the lasagna. Man, what a mountain of food. The meat sauce was devine and I didn't think I would ever say this about lasagna, but the sauce outweighed the pasta. John was a very nice bartender/waiter/server. We struck up a conversation quite easily. The inside of this old building is awesome. You can feel the history. It sits on a corner in a neighborhood so parking is limited, but I didn't have a problem getting a parking spot either night. If you are local and don't go here - you should. If you are visiting, do yourself a favor and go. read more

This is a great go-to restaurant for lunch or dinner. I've been many, many times over the years and have never been disappointed. They offer great food and service. Back when I ate red meat, I loved the Mother Mohawk, an incredible sandwich with roast beef AND chicken salad. I've also enjoyed the Veggie Wrap, filled with an amazing array of veggies, cheese and guac. The 1/2 salad or soup & sandwich is a great deal. Unfortunately my college years were up at bowling green and not at Ohio State. So what I had occasion to be in Columbus to pick up a car my buddy says to me you got to go to this place has been around since prohibition. Naturally he has never steered me wrong before so we decided to stop in there for lunch this place was in an area known as Germantown and it's about as cool as cool could be. There was a light rain, leaves were falling and football was being played. Needless to say parking was at a premium even four miles south of the University. it was not that busy and we were seated immediately. seeing as how we had a 2 and 1/2 hour drive back home we did not partake in beer however our diet Cokes were flawless LOL. I'm a sucker for french dip sandwiches and immediately I saw it and I knew I was going to order it however they did have a meatloaf sandwich that look the bomb. My wife ordered a pork quesadilla. Within about 10 minutes our food arrived and even though it wasn't much of a wait it was totally worth the wait. I'm not a big fan of mushrooms but this French dip came with plenty of cheese and onion enough to allow me to skip dinner. My au jus was a perfectly adequate amount for dipping and for ten bucks I couldn't have asked for a better lunch. Really good portion of fries as well. read more
