Soooo impressed with this place! I had originally overlooked it due to prior reviews I had read, but my friend suggested it for brunch, so we went- and I am SO glad we did! The menu is amazing, the prices are absolutely phenomenal, and the quality of the food itself was exceptional. My friend had the brunch salad, which was ENORMOUS, and looked beautiful! I had the avocado toast, which was also a generous portion. The sourdough bread was delectable, and the toppings could not have been better. Lastly, we shared a trio of pancakes- cinnamon, strawberries and cream, and lemon blueberry. The pancakes themselves were the perfect consistency. My only slight complaint is that the lemon blueberry pancake was a bit too sweet- I think simply a drizzle of the lemon curd and blueberry sauce would have been plenty sweetness for me! Otherwise, everything was absolutely excellent- I will try it for dinner next time I find myself in Missoula! read more

Came into the Old Post on Saturday with a large group & we were blown away by the top notch service & food. The atmosphere is great & it's decorated perfectly. The menu has something for everyone, even the kiddos. Live music started playing at 7pm & added some fun to the restaurant. The appetizers were phenomenal & it just got better with the main entrees. Brian our server was just amazing. The entire group had nothing but wonderful things to say about their experience at the Old Post. We ended our meal with the Bread Pudding & Fresh Beignets for the table & they did not disappoint. Perfectly located downtown & walking distance to the river to watch the surfers at sunset. Food quality / price (value) rating 8.5. The atmosphere is early 20th century tavern. The menu is pub fare, but with creative touches to each offering. We split a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, a battered chicken breast with lettuce, pickle, and an excellent proprietary hot sauce. Highly recommended! The fries were cooked "very well done" as requested, something a lot of restaurants can't seem to fulfill. Our server, Micah, was personable and very attentive. The owners, Tom D. and his wife, operate four restaurants scattered about the state of Montana, and obviously know the secret to success. They have some special attractions including live entertainment three nights a week, trivia night Tuesdays, Saturday and Sunday brunch, and Happy Hour Mondays - Fridays from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. As a super bonus, they have a very cool basement 'Grotto" restaurant / cocktail venue described as "a creative space serving rotating global bites and eclectic cocktails with changing ethnic foods on the menu". At the end of your meal, you'll be offered the chance to add your legacy to one of their Nancy Drew signature books. While visiting here, you'll want to visit "Garnet Ghost Town", "Montana's most well preserved mining ghost town", and "Caras Park and The Kim Williams River Walk", a brilliantly designed park that includes very cool sculptures, a beautiful carousel, and an amphitheater and basketball court with ping pong tables for public use (both in the shade of a bridge). You would probably also love to take a tubing trip on the Clark Fork River, or go trout fishing, an exceptional opportunity for these types of adventures. You can purchase two tubes and a floating cooler at the local Walmart for $39. Your beer is not included, however. We'd certainly come back here! read more

I LOVE the old post. It is so cute (so yes small) with the best vibe and atmosphere. I always have good service with nice staff. The fish tacos always leave me wanting more. Go for brunch to have their decadent breakfast and bloody Mary's with a lovely appetizer in the Mary (the way it should be). Im obsessed if you can't tell. Very disappointed in the service we received tonight. We arrived and the waiter (who didn't give us his name) took my wife's order for an iced tea but didn't even wait for me to look at the drink menu he had just handed me before leaving again. He came back and dropped off the iced tea and some water glasses but barely paused long enough to set them down then went to take the drink order of a table that arrived after us. He then proceeded to ignore us again on his way to fill that order and, once again ignored us in favor of taking their food order. Clearly we weren't a priority for him so when he came back we asked for the check for the iced tea. At least, to his credit, he told us not to worry about it. But, if we had needed to wait for him to get a bill for us, I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd've waited on the whole restaurant before bringing it to us. What makes this all the more disappointing and baffling is that 1) the food here is wonderful and 2) the service is usually top notch--just not this guy, I guess. read more

Came in the other day for happy hour. Even though we were a little early the bartender was friendly and accommodating. The pulled pork sliders were fabulous, moist and the bacon was a surprising bonus. I'll definitely be trying the dinner size next time. We also ordered hush puppies and they were light and fluffy. The happy hour portion was only 3 pieces so I hope the $12 app includes a few more but will for sure order them next time too. Bring back the fried goat cheese salad please! read more

Awesome food, great service! First time here and immediately a big fan. We came on Sunday afternoon. It was pretty quiet when we got here, but picked up while we were there. The room is on the small side, but has a great feel. We had the chicken sandwich, fried chicken, and red beans and rice. All were good, but the red beans and rice were the star. It felt like we were back in New Orleans. Oh, and they had $6 wine on Sundays, large pours!! We definitely will be coming back soon! read more

Solid 3 stars. I can not recommend them for breakfast. I ordered the crab cake benedict. The crab patty... well.. I am not sure, but was that supposed to be fresh? It certainly didn't taste so. It tasted like a crab/shrimp/bread preformed frozen dense tasteless patty. So I would not recommend getting that, the english muffin was also not toasted, or at least not so you'd notice. The eggs on top were perfect, I must say. The scrambles my fellow diners got looked good, but how can you really screw that up. I can recommend The Old Post for HH. They have some really great food starting around lunch and going into the evening. So I would highly recommend going at that time. And the service is always so genuine and nice at The Old Post. We stopped here for lunch and an early afternoon Caesar. I got the friend chicken salad and my boyfriend got the Country Boy breakfast. We were there just before 2p and it was nice to have he option of lunch and breakfast. My salad was good. It was what I was expecting: romaine, tomatoes without big flavor, blue cheese crumbles... the bacon was really crispy which I liked, and the fried chicken was dredged in corn meal, which I didn't think I would like, but it was pretty tasty. His breakfast was just okay. Basic biscuits, sausage links that were nothing special. And the caesars were just a little off. They had a bittersweet taste that we couldn't figure out, but it wasn't what we are used to in a Caesar. They definitely used Clamato juice, but maybe too much worchestshire (how do you even spell that word!?) sauce? Overall, a decent place to grab some bar food, but I don't think I'll be back. read more

Today my wife, daughter, and I ordered our dinner off of the Uber Eats app. First, let me start with that I am a veteran, and a member of the American Legion (Denver, Post 1). When we received our food we were so excited to try the food. Looked really good! That is until we started eating. My daughters fruit bowl had mold on some of the fruit, and the bread was dry and fell apart. I know that not everywhere is perfect, however, I have higher expectations from an establishment that is ran by veterans. The fact they let that food out the door, and to our tables, baffles my mind. The level of complacency is unacceptable. I gave two stars because the steak was cook perfectly. That was the only enjoyable part of our meal. I do not plan on dining there again. Your brandy after- dinner drink will be presented in a mid century highball glass at 1/4 finger level *("when in Rome...) by wait staff in Daisy Duke frayed cutoffs who---I swear this is true---call you "Hon" (though you are 65 and have been staring at an empty water carafe for 28 minutes.) Mid-screen TVs lend ambiance to historic brick walls and are conveniently subtitled *(see reference to clashing of ale glasses heard on Neptune). Barstools-- designed to circumvent circulation in arteries attempting to bring blood from the knees to the lower back---are ubiquitous and cruel. *( Distract yourself from the pain by appreciating the repeated themes of black and white in the flooring....upon which you nearly fall.... upon being given the "bum's rush" by Daisy or Duke at 10:01 on Saturday night. Sans the highway-robbery profit margin on liquor in America, this place would be closed and under new management (again) in a year. The service was friendly, and outdoor seating was really cute. inside was also adorable in decor, and it looks like they have a stage for life music (so fun!). ordered gumbo and a nashville chicken sandwich. the sandwich was delicious, chicken well fried, but could have used more sauce or ranch. the gumbo was dairy free (yay! and they offer more vegan options so that's amazing) and was unlike any gumbo i've had before, much more bean-y. good and spicy but a little under seasoned other than the spice level. not the most southern. good atmosphere and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice patio dinner experience. burgers looked delicious, fries were delicious. read more

My husband and I had been going to The Old Post since 2009. It was a warm, comforting place to share drinks and memories with friends. The beer, customer service, wings and onion rings hit the spot in an almost hidden location. Recently, the menu has been ripped apart (the onion rings are gone-why?!), customer service is sub-par or barely adequate at best and the food quality has also taken a big hit. It's just no longer the same place it used to be. 2 stars because music concerts are a great time and the beer is always good. I no longer suggest The Old Post to eat when friend or family come to visit though. It's just not the same... what a shame. read more

A classic of long standing in Missoula. They appear not to have raised their prices over the course of several presidential administrations. Combine this with the absence of sales tax in Montana and you can eat very reasonably here. It doesn't hit you over the head with the fact that it's an old place, but the sign appears to have been designed before the world wars, and the pressed tin ceiling might be on its third century. There's shiplap under that, high on the wall, that doesn't look a heck of a lot newer. The barback is certainly antique. The beer signs are new--they appear to have been hand-colored with Crayolas by the staff during slow moments in service. Trust me, they're a lot cooler-looking than that description might lead you to believe. The booths are hammered together from rough-hewn cedar. There's a big newer deck outside, made private by arbors and trellises. The whole thing obviously has grown through decades of affectionate patronage by locals and tourists alike. The staff is all right on point, very friendly and at ease, completely in command of everything the place has on the menu and in the bar. The chicken wing specials are delicious, and a steal at $0.25 a wing. The spicy andouille sausage sandwich was toasty with great flavor from the horseradish spread as well as a nicely spiced link. The posole was startlingly good, and the pretzel was a really good effort with decent beer cheese dip. On my way out of town, I grabbed breakfast. OK coffee, great service again, and a tasty scramble. The bread was clearly out of a supermarket-type bag, but had great flavor, and the scramble itself was delicious. The jalapenos added nice counterpoint. I'd definitely hit this place again. read more
