Very satisfying, if you consider what it is. Epic fine Italian dining this is not. Old Spaghetti Factory (OSF) is a chain of restaurants that has been around since the late 1960s, which serve a mostly pasta menu with some greek influence (like the Mizithra cheese). They seated us at a window which was nice so kids could see the Amtrak Surfliner go by (it went by 2x), along with Metrolink and at least 2 long BNSF freight trains. We shared: Garlic Mizithra pasta (with bacon and mushrooms): 8.5/10. Don't get much brown butter flavor, but the mizithra cheese, bacon and mushroom have a nice salty roastiness that is very pleasant. Meat Lovers Treat pasta (which comes with 1 sausage, 2 meatballs, and meat sauce): 9/10. Very enjoyable red sauce pasta. Kids especially liked the sausage, meatballs were tender, sauce tasted fresh and not goopy or pasty. Sicilian Garlic Cheese bread: 9.5/10: totally satisfying; basically a pleasant and non-industrial tasting french bread pizza with a slightly chunky sauce served for spooning or dipping. Fresh bread: 9/10: a mini french loaf, piping hot and fresh, with whipped butter and they even gave us an extra loaf to take home (so really 10/10) Each entree comes with garden salad (ours was very fresh, and I really enjoyed the balsamic vinaigrette), bread and... Free ice cream! 9/10: what is not to like about a free scoop of vanilla or spumoni with dessert. The spumoni does not have nuts, only artificial nut flavor, so people with pistachio or other nut allergies probably don't need to worry. I have had better spumoni but it was still pleasant. I was surprised that I liked this place this much. Service was excellent, exceptionally friendly and attentive. In sum: pleasant, comfortable, accommodates kids and big groups well. And value is excellent: salad, pasta, bread, garlic cheese bread, soda, all of this cost of $66 (incl. tax!) + tip. The portions aren't gigantic but totally satisfactory. Came by with my coworkers for lunch. The building is historical and absolutely darling and old timey. We got to eat in the cable car and that was fun! The service is also great. I got the Manager's favorite and chose the Mizithra Cheese & Browned Butter and meat sauce pastas. There were just okay. The flavors were off to me. I had been to spaghetti factory a handful of times before when I was a kid and I remember not liking the flavor back then too. First time coming here and in a Saturday afternoon. They opened at 11:30am so I got to the place around 11:20am with actually wire a number of parked cars already there. I got inside right when they opened and there's already a bunch of people. Some were for birthdays or just family gatherings. They also had a banquet room which was problem booked for an event. The wait time was estimated 25-30 minutes for a take off 6, but they are able to immediately seat groups of 2. We love the look of the place and the various antique decorations, since the building used to be a school, it added a nice historical touch. However, the restrooms were downstairs, we were thinking about one family member who might not like walking down stairs due to their condition. And we saw the sign for an elevator but didn't see the elevator at the area, so might be around the back which also seems a bit too out of the way for them. When we got seated, we were at a booth, luckily only 2 of us really needed to stay near the opening as getting in and out of a tight space is difficult for them. The menu was the paper placement, the drink menu is the booklet menu they give you. Kids menu is a paper crown which was so cute and they gave us crayons for my son to use (which unfortunately he didn't). My parents wanted something small so they ordered the lighter plate options which was the sausage and red sauce and shrimp Alfredo. The pasta shapes were bow ties. I got the chicken marsala with salad and blue cheese dressing. The main dishes also come with hot bread which they provided as loafs with butter in a mini board. We also got the spinach and artichoke dip with toasted sour dough slices, it was good and had a number of artichoke chunks. The chicken Marsala was ok, but I think my piece of chicken was an odd one out of the batch because it was juicy and soft on one side but the other side was tough and dry. The sauce was a bit too sour for me, still good though. I think what threw me off was the mushrooms were rubbery, but I would have much preferred the nicely sautéed ones on the Alfredo dish (not light option). My son got the Mac and cheese with meat sauce, they forgot the meat sauce so they had to go back to get it and luckily it didn't take long. The pasta were like short tubes (ditalini) so it was easy to scoop them into his mouth. He did eat some of it and we took the rest home. Each meal except the light options comes with a dessert, spumoni (cherry, pistachio, chocolate) or vanilla ice cream. We got to try both flavors and I really enjoyed the protein and how creamy they were. Overall, I enjoyed being here in general, I think the atmosphere makes the place worth trying at least once. Cafeteria quality and not worth the wait and price. We were craving for spaghetti and were so excited to eat here. The best part of the meal is the minestrone soup and fresh bread. The food took forever to come and the waiters kept coming to ask if everything was ok, yeah we are waiting for our entree... they came by 3 times to say its coming. When the food did come the pasta was not hot and dried up. There was barely any sauce and the meat ball was hard and dry. Everything else was dry and clumpy. We cut the meatball up to try to eat it and still it was so dry we couldn't eat it but didn't want to complain because we waited so long already and just wanted to get this done and who knows if they will do something to the food if we complain. So we sucked it up and paid. They asked us if we wanted to box it up. And that's when i told the waitress no I don't want to take it home it was so dry. She looked shocked but how did they serve it to us without looking at it. Really terrible quality. We spent over $100 for shitty pasta for 3 people. The pasta noodles were all clump and stuck together (an easy dunk in hot water prob would've loosened it). I will never go back again. The atmosphere is what we come for, we stop in when we're passing through, it's not authentic Italian cuisine but more cafeteria style pasta, a little bit overcooked spaghetti with marinara sauce is my usual, I added a meatball on the side this time, it was ok . My husband got the chicken piccata which he loved The salad is not very fresh, it seems like the kind of greens that comes in a plastic package and sometimes it's a little fresher than today's. We do enjoy the drinks when we do have some, I get the lemon drop. Stopped in with my sister for an early Sunday dinner. The Italian sausage was delicious! Garlic cheese bread and marinara were really good as well. The spinach artichoke dip was kinda dry, probably won't get that again. Lemon drop was pretty, but not the best. And of course, the spaghetti and meatballs were the best!! We always love the charm of the old school building. The service was decent enough but I wish they would have cleared the table before presenting the check and then offering dessert...most of the staff seemed pretty young. This OSF is located in the historic school house of Duarte. It was built in 1909 and operated until OSF took it over in 1993. The property is a beautiful historic building and has numerous antiques inside. In addition to the trolley, there are special rooms you can request to eat in such as the hidden room by the bar, the principal's office, the music annex, or the adjoining classroom with the original black boards restored and decorated with humorous pics and writing. The school house is supposed to be haunted and if you ask your sever, they may tell you ghost stories either from other staff or their own personal experiences. On a Memorial Day Monday around 12:00-12:30 they had some business but were not super crowded or noisy. Currently, they are running a meatball special for $24.99 where you get bread, a drink, spaghetti and 4 meatballs with your choice of sauce, and a scoop of spumoni or vanilla ice cream. This special is meant to be shared by two, but 3 people could probably share it if you do not eat too much or if you eat all the bread. The meatballs were good, spaghetti just ok, sourdough bread was not super high quality but had good flavor, salad was fine, and the spumoni and ice cream were fine. Overall, you can probably make better at home for the dishes in the special, but it is a great value for the price and it is super nice to pay to have someone else do the cooking and clean up for you. Unless you just want the deal, you are probably better off getting one of their other many dishes that are either harder to make at home or you cannot make yourself. We would definitely come back for the special again when we do not want cook or want a good deal and would come back to get other menu items as well. Our server Vanesa (with one "s" and known as "big" Vanesa because she is taller than "small" Vanessa) did an EXCELLENT job and was very attentive--she brought us refills without us asking and checked back on us frequently, but often just by looking and not interrupting. I arrived at The Old Spaghetti Factory (Duarte) on Sunday (around 4:40PM). Parking is easy. The lot is big. I was seated immediately. However, I noticed the business became crowded and very busy around 6PM. Staff is the weakest aspect of this experience. Staff is very exuberant and friendly at the beginning; however, Staff became visibly fatigued as the dining experience progressed. This location grows very busy, and Staff rarely checks up. The main entree took about 24 minutes. As mentioned, I ordered the Mizithra Cheese & Browned Butter Pasta ($21.99). It's salty Greek Mizithra Cheese and Browned Butter on Spaghetti. The recipe is simple, but it tastes rich and satisfying. The pasta is also soft and bouncy. Then, the complimentary hot bread stole the show. The bread had a crisp crust, but it's very fluffy and hot. TASTY! The Caesar salad ($3.99 upgrade) is also clean, fresh with a very light dressing drizzle. However, some croutons were a little hard & stale. The Spumoni Ice Cream (aka: Mixed Chocolate, Pistachio, Strawberry) is also chill and refreshing. YUM! All in all, I left full and happy. On ambiance, The Old Spaghetti Factory (Duarte) is GORGEOUS! It's a beautiful destination. The colorful flags and vibrant trolley really catches the eye. Also, the location is very shiny and clean. The location plays no music, but it's a HUGE place, so chatter doesn't echo. The unique ambiance really makes the experience feel special. Sometimes the classics just hit the spot. I've been to various locations of the OSF since I was a kid, but this was my first time at this location. Service was great. All of the staff from the hostess to our server were so friendly and that really made an impression on us. This building is a very old schoolhouse, and it's decorated in a way that honors that history in addition to the cool trolley car in the center of the restaurant that houses dining tables. They have plenty of Italian classics to choose from and all meals come with salad and ice cream as well as a piping hot loaf of fresh bread to start. My last review of the Duarte location of The Old Spaghetti Factory was on May 17, 2026 because we met with family that were visiting. Today, the Duarte location was again the most convenient location to meet with friends that live in Victorville, California that were going to be in the Los Angeles area and I contemplated on coming back to this location because of our most recent visit and based on my last review. However, I believe in giving a restaurant a second chance. This visit we were only a party of four so I figured service should be a lot better. We made reservations just in case since it is a Saturday, but weirdly enough, it was not very busy at 6:00 pm. Our server Andrew took our order and specifically our friends at first wanted the artichoke dip, but changed it to a garlic bread appetizer and a couple Caesar salads. My wife and I both ordered pasta entrees. Our soup and salads were brought out and as we were almost done with those, I waved Andrew down and asked about the garlic bread, he said that our friends canceled it. We refreshed his memory and said yes they changed from artichoke dip to the garlic cheesy bread. So he put in an order of cheesy bread. A while later our entrees came out and we asked to follow up on the garlic cheesy bread and maybe five minutes in to our entrees, the cheesy bread came out. When our pastas came out, we told Andrew my wife's pasta was dry so we asked for a little more clam sauce and mizithra with brown butter. Later on we find out we were charged for side sauces which is ok if he informed us. Through out our entree, Andrew never stopped by to check on us, check for refills or even ask if my wife's pasta was better. Also my glass of water had been empty for a while and no one came by to refill it. We were done eating and only then did he come by to ask if we needed boxes or dessert. Instead of getting upset, we got our ice creams, paid the check and I was over it with the poor service at Duarte Old Spaghetti factory. For me to receive such poor service between having a large party one time and a much smaller party this time, I have come to the conclusion that it's not how big our table is, it's just poor training of wait staff and that I hold management responsible. It is commonly said, the third time is the charm. I don't think Duarte deserves a third time. We are not new to OSF. In fact I have probably been coming to an OSF longer than most have worked at OSF and not all locations are the same because I can personally say that we have received some of the best service at Fullerton, Rancho Cucamonga, Riverside, and many more. read more

So it's definitely no high end experience, but I am giving Old Spaghetti Factory a solid four stars. It's at an old elementary school from way back when, so there's a lot of photos in honor of the school from back in the day. The entrance has a train which makes for a cool photo op and dining experience as well. As for the food, my go to here is the mizithra. It's something that I don't really see anywhere else, and I feel like that's a classic here, so def my go to. I'm at the Old Spaghetti Factory for lunch. I ordered the lunch special, the Garlic Shrimp Alfredo, but I asked if they could substitute grilled chicken instead of shrimp. It comes with a side salad, their famous sourdough bread, and I got a strawberry lemonade to drink. Excellent customer service! Erick was my server, and he was friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the menu and the history behind the restaurant. The restaurant is beautiful inside, and the food is authentic and absolutely delicious! And don't leave without trying the spumoni ice cream .... It's the best! Duarte, CA I've heard about this restaurant before, so coming from San Dimas we decided to stop by for an early lunch. Our waiter asked if it was our first time dining there. Since it was, he explained how the menu works: it is a 3 course meal. Lunch is smaller portion, no dessert, and hot bread I think. We decided to go with the dinner menu. I ordered the Chicken Marsala, and my significant other ordered the Spicy Spaghetti Vesuvius. My dish was good ~ I liked the cheese on top of the pasta ~ but I've had better Chicken Marsala elsewhere. My significant other enjoyed his entrée. I frequented The Old Spaghetti Factory in Fullerton during my college years so the restaurant always had sentimental value to me. When I found out many years later that they also had a location in Duarte, I would bring my kids here and they all loved coming not only for their favorite Mizithra spaghetti but also to "ghost hunt" at the bathroom downstairs. Fast forward to another 8 years later and I decided to pay another visit. Times may have changed because I was expecting the wait to be over an hour like how it used to, but surprisingly the restaurant wasn't as crowded and the wait was only under 10 minutes. After we got seated, I was able to place my order rather swiftly. We ordered the Meat Lovers Treat and Lobster & Crab Ravioli, with a side of Broccoli. The Meat Lovers Treat was a 7/10. Still tasty but the portion definitely got smaller. The Broccoli was a 6/10 as it was quite dry and it came out being room temperature instead of hot. Now the Lobster & Crab Ravioli was quite a disappointment because it came out FROZEN...yes....it was ROCK HARD and FROZEN COLD, as if the cook had forgotten to re-heat it in the microwave AGAIN - the reason I say again was because when I brought it up to the waitress' attention, she seemed rather unapologetic and not surprised, as if this was a common issue. She also seemed hesitant for us to order something else and rather wanted to bring us the same replacement of the same item. We have NEVER been served frozen food before (aside from dessert lol) so it was VERY strange. It was especially unpleasant for my bf since he is a chef at a 5 star hotel so this left a very negative impact for him. Other than that, the staff was friendly - 8/10. Stepping into the old spaghetti factory, it's like taking a delicious step back in time. The building was built in 1909 as the Duarte schoolhouse. The restaurant seamlessly blends, vintage charm with classic Italian warmth. You are surrounded by architectural details such as stained glass windows, vintage wooden carvings, and beautiful furniture. My favorite focal point was the train sitting right in the middle of the restaurant. It had been emptied and inside and filled with tables so I felt like you were eating inside of an old Italian train. I really appreciated the very attentive service by our server Miguel, a very polite young man who was making sure that we had enough cheese and sauces. I have to say my only critique was that the salad itself was very bland. The only thing that really helped it taste good was that pesto cream dressing on the side. The freshly baked sourdough loaf we got was very flavorful but I have to say the jumbo crab and lobster ravioli was nothing amazing. It definitely felt like it was missing something. The lasagna was good, but I have to admit that I have had way better.....not to toot my own horn, but I feel that I could've made it better myself!!! The Old Spaghetti Factory is a spot I hit up for nostalgia, especially for their Pot Pourri, featuring four unique sauce flavors. Getting parking and a table isn't too difficult on weekday afternoons, and I was seated within minutes of walking through the door. For starters, I had their sourdough bread. I'm not a huge fan of sourdough, but theirs is always amazing in its own way - not too sour, just tough enough to go perfectly with a clam chowder which happened to be Friday's special soup! (By the way, you may take unfinished bread to-go - yay for reduced food waste.) My server was amazing in recommending items that I'll consider trying on the next visit. After finishing the clam chowder, the Pot Pourri was out within 10 minutes, though none of the sauces were remarkable. (It was quite literally spaghetti with sauce.) Next time, I'll be sure to add some protein. Besides the food, the environment is an enjoyable factory-like experience. We had a great time, the food was great, service was great. The location is easy to find and parking was good. Our server was good and we had a great overall experience! I should have gotten a red sauce, but you live and learn. The wife also got the Manager's Favorite with Meat Marinara and Mushroom Sauce and being a mushroom lover. She really loved her dish. I, on the other hand felt like it was just okay as the spaghetti didn't taste of very good. I growing up on the East Coast with no shortage of good Italian food. I'm a bit spoiled and picky with Italian restaurants. With that being said, Old Spaghetti Factory is very affordable place to eat for families with kids. A 3 course meal for $7.99 for kids is really unbeatable. You get a soup or salad, entree and ice cream for $7.99 is really good deal for kids. The wife and I picked Spumoni as our dessert. You can pick either Spumoni or Vanilla. Our son picked Vanilla ice cream and everyone really enjoy our dessert. It was nice to finish up our meal with Spumoni as I haven't had in awhile and it perfect way to cleanse the palate. The service was pretty attentive to our needs. The Old Spaghetti Factory is tried and true. We ate here after a very long day of visiting around and were super hungry. My favorite "go-to" is the Mizithra Spaghetti - I opted for the "leveled up" option that includes garlic and mushrooms. It was so good, savory, and tasty! As always the ambiance was warm, cozy, and this time -- festive for the holidays. So, it added to the holiday spirit and fun we were having during the day. Rumor has it that this place is haunted, which we are all about. If you ask, the front desk has a pamphlet describing some of the "haunted happenings" that are rumored to have taken place. This is a bonus -- and tells me the management leans into this aspect of local history. I digress -- the food was excellent! The bread was hot, fresh, and perfect! We went for the trifecta meal which includes: main course, soup or salad, and a dessert! It's difficult to find a place where they put families first. More than five people represents to much for many restaurants. Specially birthdays when people sing and has a birthday cake and candles, etc. Well, our family has come here at list for the last 20 years and come back exactly for the same reason, good food, family friendly service and have a good time. It was our first time coming here. Been to Cheesecake Factory but not to this one. We ordered the Crab and Lobster ravioli and Mizithra. Wasn't expecting much, but they were so good. My hubby didn't think he would get full with the ravioli as it came with 6 big square pcs. After eating the 5th pc he was done. I have been to many Old Spaghetti Factory restaurants in Southern California. This one in Duarte, CA is supposedly haunted so I decided to check it out since I was in the area. Located in an old school house, this building is historical like many other OSF restaurants. It was fun to read about the location and peruse the old photographs throughout the rooms. I had my usual mainstay meal which is The Manager's Favorite of Clam Sauce and Mizithra Cheese and Browned Butter. I really need to try something new but this is my favorite. It came with a soup or salad, a loaf of sourdough bread, and a spumoni for dessert. I was dining solo so I had the hot, crusty loaf of bread all to myself. The minestrone soup was good with the adding of a Sicilian meatball. The meatball was seasoned well but could be lighter in texture. The spaghetti was a tad over in cooking time so the texture was not optimum but the dish tasted fine. I just like my pasta right at al dente. The sauces were good and flavorful. Spumoni provided a nice ending to the meal. The table placemat had the dinner menu printed on it so that made planning the next meal easy. The Chicken Piccata caught my eye so that is what I will try next time. Service was polite and efficient. I had a pleasant dining experience. No ghostly hauntings were noted even after visiting the infamous staircase leading down to the basement restrooms twice. Perhaps you will have better luck with that than I did. read more

We love to buy the butter cheese methzera noodles. The last three meals we order to deliver tasted like straight noodles with cheese. Disappointed when you spend this much money for pasta it should taste the way it used to yum. Not any more read more

The last time I was here was during my college years, wow! It hasn't changed! I came with a party of 7, made reservations ahead of time which I'm glad I did. They accommodate larger groups, I recommend calling in advance to make reservations. Our server was really nice and patient, she knew the menu and made recommendations. She periodically came and checked in on us, she brought out fresh drinks ( non alcoholic) as needed without us requesting, she was great! I ordered the Chicken Parmesan which is served with Spaghetti. It's a good portion sized plate. The chicken was well cooked. It was moist and seasoned just right. The spaghetti and sauce wasn't anything out of the ordinary but it was good. Most than anything, the entire restaurants history, the aesthetics, the antique furniture down to the picture frames, and our server made the experience memorable...restaurant gives a bit of ghost hunter vibes too. :O Glad I came back. read more

The historic building is a real treasure. It was built in 1909 as the Duarte School. Because it's built over a hundred years ago it's not handicap accessible. This is preserving history and so I'm okay with keeping the building true to its historic roots. Even the restrooms are in the basement accessed by stairs. We are in the trolley car because we had the little boys with us. This location provided great food and service was pretty good. Our server was attentive once she came to our table. We had a bit of a wait for her initially. We thought this location had better food, service and drink accuracy than the Cathedral Oaks location and a little better than Scottsdale. We had made a reservation prior to visiting which is always a good idea. We were sat very quickly and our waiter was great. He was very attentive and helpful. My kids and I drive by almost weekly and we finally decided to give this place a try with low expectations. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the restorative work is impressive considering the age of the building. This is a fun place to have dinner as you can ask to sit in the trolley. Also good for large groups and takes reservations. Overall I think the pasta was pretty good. The spaghetti is cooked to a perfect al dente. The mushroom ravioli was very good. My daughter got the kid's ravioli and the red sauce was very good. The kids brown butter spaghetti with mizithra cheese was amazing. I would order the adult version if we ever came back. I wasn't a fan of the spicy spaghetti Vesuvius as it was bland and there wasn't really any spice. The prices are a bit high, but it does come with a mini starter, fresh bread, and ice cream. The starter soup and salads were bland as well. Overall a fun restaurant to try with kids. read more

We've always driven past OSF and wondered how the food is...we finally decided to give it a try this past weekend. I ordered the Pot Pourri which came with spaghetti and 4 different pasta sauces -- clam, marinara, Mizithra cheese + browned butter, and meat. Our server, Seth, said the Mizithra sauce was the most popular, but I personally prefer the meat sauce. It was seasoned perfectly and tasted very homey and comforting. I also got a Watermelon Martini but it was super sweet and tasted artificial, so I asked for a Moscow Mule instead. They took the first drink off the bill. The food was nothing special, but our server really took the time to explain all the dishes and was very helpful, so giving this place 4 stars. read more

The food is solidly good every time you go there. I love the Mizithra cheese pasta. They always give you three courses with every meal, super salad, main course, a scoop of spumoni or vanilla ice cream. We happen to go during the time when they rolled back the prices a few years and we certainly scored big time getting our meal for a lot cheaper than normal. Our server was spot on and did a very good job. As far as ambience in this place, holy moly. If you've never been to an Old Spaghetti Factory, you have to go to one because they use traditional buildings from the late 1800s early 1900s at most of their restaurants. This particular one is an old school house from 1909 in the city of Duarte. All in all, we really enjoy Old Spaghetti Factory every time we go, this occasion was no different. read more

My wife has been wanting to try this place so we decided to give it a whirl. Service was good and our server was very nice. She checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed. The overall appearance of the venue was spacious and had just an old school vibe. There was a trolley in the middle and all the state flags hanging from the ceiling. The food on the other hand was okay. To be honest the food was good enough to satisfy my hunger but we didn't find it memorable. We had the garlic shrimp fettuccine and the chicken picatta which we found both dishes slightly salty. My parents had the fettuccine as well and the jumbo lobster ravioli and they also said the same. The restaurant has a parking lot. It was easy to find parking. The ambience was nice. I loved the decor and the light fixtures are beautiful. Reservations were easy to make. Upon checking in we waited for our table to he ready and was seated not too long after. The front staff asked if we wanted a kid menu and I declined since my kiddo usually eats our food but it would have been nice if she at least gave her crayons to be entertained. My first time at the restaurant and I didn't know that's what she meant by kid menu. Meal comes with sourdough bread, which came out piping hot and soft. The bread was great! We also ordered the limoncello sparkler but that was a bit strong to our taste, too bitter. For entrees we got a lasagna, white clam sauce pasta, and lobster and crab ravioli. Entree comes with side of salad or soup. We got some salad with their house pesto dressing and minestrone soup. They were tasty. The lasagna was good. Went here for the first time and it was pretty good! Service was good and relatively quick. Food was pretty expensive for the quality but overall, I was satisfied. Everything was clean and all of the staff were helpful. The inside was nice, but felt a bit eerie.. haunted even. Otherwise it was a good dinner and I will definitely be back. read more
