Took their dirty dishes, piled it NEXT to our ice creams on the same tray. Really?? How lazy can you be? Yes it's hard work, you gotta hustle and keep the standard up! What I love about OSP is the familiarity and consistency. Is it "real" Italian fare? Of course not. But is is always the same, and always good? Yes. Fresh hot bread, and it's plentiful. The portions of the salad was a little bigger than in the past. The creamy pesto was just as good as in the past. We attended a wedding anniversary party here. The space for the gathering fit the amount of people who attended really well (approx 40 people). Food was selected prior to the event and paid about $10 per person (less drinks). Service was attentive although had to wait between the first and second servicing of items. Food was tasty (lasagna, spaghetti noodles with white & red sauce, large meatballs, salad (Cesar and signature Ranch Dressing), French bread (also had sourdough loaves with butter for each table)). Since I was solo, I sat at the bar.. it took a while for the hosts to come greet me, when I asked if I could sit at the bar, she said she would need to ask the server. Finally I received the go ahead to sit at the bar, so I walked myself to the bar, grabbed a menu and silverware from a table and used that. I ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo, and had a house salad with ranch dressing. The ranch dressing was decent, had lots of dried seasoning in it, had good flavor though. It was definitely a basic salad. Thought of having dinner here, bc i was craving it from my previous experience. Suggested it to my housemate who kindly took us out to dinner. I was initially excited to have my housemate try it for the first time, at the same time thinking about what I would order before we were seated. I told him previously I had bn here for family dinners out on birthdays & dates & the portions were large. he immediately saw the cable car & asked if we could sit there. i was glad he'd noticed that, bc he wasn't really excited about going to OSF when I had mentioned it. He requested we sit in the cable car & there was a booth available thankfully. this was my second time being seated in it. He said it reminded him of SF, he's from Cali. The server pulled up at a good time, inquired our drink orders, we needed time to select a red wine. I asked if she was familiar with the wines & expressed the taste we were wanting. She recommended the ménage a trois. i asked if we could have a sample of it. She said sure. Upon her return, no sample was brought. (-1pt) My housemate returned with a couple of glasses of the chardonnay from the bar, recommended by the bartender. i asked if he like it. he said yeah it doesn't give that taste he didn't like. glad he liked it. Chardonnay isn't my taste, but drank all but the last little sip. my stomach didn't like it. Red chardonnay ‍ He ordered soup with the clam Whoever sat on the bench prior smelled like ass. I often take my daughter here as she loves the ambience of the place. The staff are generally very friendly, and prompt. I have never had bad service, even when I see they are packed. The servers have always been great about handling rush hours. We generally get seated within 10 minutes of arrival and get a booth if we ask for it. The food is good, and seasoned well, but I wouldn't say I go here for the food. They have the normal options that Italian places offer to include a child's menu. My daughter always gets just plain spaghetti noodles, so you can't really do those wrong. They offer a beautiful cotton candy limeade, but it is just too sweet for me. Prices are amount $17-23 for the staples and more for the stuff with specialty items. I ordered the Chicken with capers, tomatoes and a noodle medley that I don't recall the name. And, while the prices have changed over the years, the core menu and the quality has remained the same. I love the soup and the hot bread. The best thing about this place is their ornate decor, windows, and furniture. The menu doesn't have many things to choose from, but we liked what we got. Prices are typical of other similar pasta restaurants. They give you complimentary bread which is hard and plain, but at least it's hot and the butter is soft, unlike at Pastini. This place is truly nostalgia for me. From the heavy wooden doors to the brightly decorated stained glass to the wooden trolley with seating! This place was always a treat growing up. As an adult I don't necessarily gravitate here but my daughter loves this place for the kids meals with her friends. We always request to sit in the trolley! Went here for a cousin's son's birthday and there were about 20 adults and 7 kids. We had a whole section for the birthday which was nice. The service was slow but on a Saturday night, which is normally busy, I could tell the servers were doing the best they could and were maintaining their composure under a stressful night. Each person ordered and got drinks of their choice, along with the complimentary salad/soup and ice cream at the end. It's a lot of work for the waiters/waitresses to accommodate so many people and there were only two staff members taking orders. We all ordered our favorites: Manager's Favorite with Mizithra & Browned Butter and Mushroom sauce (perfect amount of butter, not swimming in grease) with side of sausage (nice & tender & savory): Pot Pourri (sis's favorite!) and daughter got the Crab Ravioli (ate every bite). Drinks were good: Raspberry Italian soda (clean free glass to take home), glass of house Chianti was very nice, and the pomegranate Long Island Iced Tea was just okay but had way too much iced. Came here for take out today - have to say great job! My wife and I both had lasagna and it was excellent. The salads were about what you'd expect, lettuce cabbage mix, croutons and dressing. I am going to say something about the service at this place. So, I have been here quite a few times and there is a big issue here. The people that greet you after you walk in the door always say the same thing if you are there to pick up an order: " your order will be ready in 5 min". What actually happens is that you could wait upto 20 min, and still no food. The problem here is that the greeters don't communicate with the people processing the food orders. Also, your order may or may not exist as well and instead of knowing that soon after you arrive, you will have to wait to find out if you get your food or not. Let me just say this. Amber, our waitress was amazing. She she took care of my 2 yr old daughter and I. My daughter really wanted to sit in the trolley, in a very busy section for Amber. I have bartended and served for years when I was younger so I know that an extra table in a busy section can be tough to manage. Halfway through dinner my little one had an accident. I panicked. But Amber did not. She politely said to go take care of the accident and she would take care of the table. When I got back to the table a few minutes later the booth was cleaned up. As a parent with a young one it is hard to go out because sometimes accidents do happen. Amber never made me feel ashamed or embarrassed, nor did she show an ounce of frustration. We were seated in a very comfortable booth in what looks like an old fashion trolley car. The room is really cool and interesting. Our server was very friendly and prompt. We ordered the spinach and cheese ravioli and the crab ravioli. Our meal came with a soup or salad and ice cream at the end. The salad tasted like it came out of a bag. Very disappointing. However, the minestrone soup was delicious. We were also given a piping hot small loaf of bread. I absolutely love bread but was very disappointed in the lack of flavor. Neither of us finished one piece and it was a shame as the whole loaf was wasted. Both of our meals came lukewarm and we had to send them back. Our server brought us back a replacement that was the right temperature and both dishes were good. The minestrone was clearly not ordered very often. It tasted like it was canned. The fettuccine with garlic shrimp was creamy with medium sized shrimp that seemed fresh. Zero stars. I am absolutely done with this place. I really really want to like it, but after my experience last night I have only disgust and disdain for the management and the way this place is run. So a bit of background, the kids always liked to go here back in the day, service was good, food was adequate, every now and then we'd sit in the caboose. It was fun for the kids. The kids are more grown up now, but with all the covid stuff many restaurants have endured we still made it a point to do business via take out. So last night we ordered a tub of spumoni, the family size lasagna meal which is supposed to come with 2 loaves of bread, a large broccoli and an entree sized Caesar salad that is supposed to come with a half loaf of bread, soup and a cup of spumoni as included sides. The online system said it would be ready for pickup at 6pm. Cost before tip: $88.65, I threw in a $10 tip so total cost was almost $100 out the door. I arrived at 6pm, went to the pleasant hostess to ask for my order. She entered my name into her computer device and said it would be right out. 6:15, still no food, so I went to the hostess and asked it to be checked on. A few minutes later out comes another person asking me if maybe my name was entered wrong when ordering? I said no, and showed her my order on my phone with my full name in view. Off she went to the kitchen in search of the food. L.s.s., Finally someone figured out where my food was, and it was brought out. Because the PRIOR TWO pick-up orders I did on line had been shorted items and I only discovered it after I got home, this time I decided to do an inventory before leaving the restaurant. Well well, what I discovered was a lasagna with a smashed in lid, only one loaf of bread, no soup and no tub of spumoni. I asked the delivery person about the missing bread, she insisted the order was right. I explained the bread math based on the website order and I asked that it be corrected. Off she went and returned with 2 more loaves of bread. Progress. Upon return, she noticed the missing spumoni and off she went to get it. More progress. Finally I asked about the missing soup, so off she went and returned with a cup of soup. Ok great, order complete. As I was packing the order back into the torn bags I noticed she was having a conversation with someone who appeared to be a manager a few steps away, he did not seem happy. So after the packing was done I asked him if he was the manager, he said yes and he started to reach toward my order as if to review the contents. So now, my order is 25 minutes overdue, hot food getting cold, cold food getting warm. I did not need another set of hands going through my order at this point. So I somewhat bluntly asked that he not dig through my bag and told him the problem: incomplete order and not the first time. The result: An instant attitude, like I was running a ripoff scheme or something. Never did he ask me what the problem was or offer apology or try to address it. Just an "Ok, we're done here!" I was shocked and appalled by the complete lack of customer service attitude. I replied "That's it?! I even tipped you guys. For this?" he said something to the effect of "Yeah, I tried to help you, we're through. Move along. Move along now." Holy moly, did I just hear that? Yes I did. Not wanting to waste another minute on this jerk I replied: "Good luck with your business." and I turned to leave. In an arrogant tone and to my back he said "You'll be back." Well guess what. There is no way in a million years I will ever return here. It gets even worse. I got the meal home, we opened it all up and the first discovery was to find the smallest limpest soggiest impression of a $14.75 Entree Casear salad in the history of mankind. Wet, warm, soggy lettuce in a scant single layer not even fully covering the bottom of the cardboard takeout container. A truly sickening sight to behold. But hey, there were two cups of croutons provided, so there were actually more croutons than lettuce pieces!! If only I had ordered a crouton salad but alas I had not. Disgusting. The other find was truly bizarre: The Lasagna had a portion cut out of it!! Why and how could that happen? Some of my family members suspected tampering and refused to eat from that end of the pan. Those that ate from the other unscathed end of the pan announced that it was cold to the touch. I checked, they were right. Had this lasagna even ever been heated? Why the missing section? Truly disgusting and suspicious. I get it, mistakes can happen, I've overlooked many. I want to give benefit of doubt. I tipped in advance on a TAKE OUT order, no inspection inside the containers. I was patient up until the incredibly rude and arrogant treatment from the 'manager.' If he is running the place, I pity the staff. I'm done with this place.
