We made a reservation for 11:30 AM, right when The Old Spaghetti Factory opened. At first, I wondered if making a reservation was even necessary since the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived. But as time went by, the tables quickly filled up, so I definitely understood why reservations are a good idea. Everyone in our group ordered one of the creamy pasta dishes, and they were all delicious. However, even though we ordered different dishes, they tasted quite similar. I think each dish could have had a little more of its own character and flavor. There was also a small mix-up with my order. When the server took our order, I actually pointed to the item on the menu, but a different dish came out. Mistakes happen, so I told them not to worry about it and that I would just enjoy what was brought to me. Our server was very nice and did their best throughout the meal. But honestly, the atmosphere was the highlight for me. The interior has a unique, classic feel that I think is one of the best restaurant atmospheres in Louisville. We had a large (12) group and were seated quickly. Our server immediately came with menus and asked for drink orders. After drinks were delivered she took our dinner orders. We had 7 different checks and she accurately and quickly took our orders. We were given bread and salads not too long after we placed our orders. Not too much longer we were brought our entrees. I was amazed at this because our large table only had the 1 server! She did have help bringing out our food though. The food was great. Nobody in our party had a complaint. The dinners included Spumoni ice cream for dessert and it was really good! All in all a great experience! We weren't even tagged with a large group surcharge! First time visiting Louisville, KY. Came here to the Old Spaghetti Factory the day before running the Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon. I'll note that all entrees came with extras -- hot bread, minestrone soup, and a pint of spumoni ice cream (I chose pistachio over vanilla). The bread and soup were pretty good and definitely hit the spot before race day. For my entree, I had the Chicken Parmigiana: "A freshly seasoned breast of tender chicken with melted cheese and marinara sauce, served with spaghetti." Overall, not a home run, but still a decent and filling meal. I did well in my race the next day, so I can't complain too much. Would stop by again if I'm back in the area. 10 years since my last review! After a downtown play my cousin said "let's go to Spaghetti Factory". It was a quick walk and no wait for a seat. The menu hasn't really changed. I got the Manager's Favorite with meat sauce and the browned cheese. The meat sauce was strong and rich, so I'm glad I didn't get a full plate of pasta topped with it. Still loved the salad, bread, and spumoni ice cream that's included with every meal. Service was average. We had to watch for our server to ask for drinks and other items more often than I'd have liked. One tip I wished I'd known - ask to sit in the main floor (where the trolley sits). The windows bring in a lot of light and makes the space more fun. We sat in a side room that was poorly lit and felt quiet and old. Street parking requires you to feed the meters or park in a nearby garage. read more

This place is so pretty. Unfortunately that's the only positive thing I can say about our experience here. It all began when we walked in the door. The receptionist was rude and make us feel like an inconvenience for coming in. We then sat for several minutes before being acknowledged by a server. Our server wasn't necessarily rude, but was quite absent and not very hospitable. The bread was hard and not very fresh tasting. We did not receive plates to put our bread on so we used our napkins. The food was not good at all. The plates were hotter than the food and it all tasted old, dry, and reheated. We have dined at a different location and their portions were much bigger and it was a great experience. We were the only diners yet our server was very absent. We did however get to enjoy watching several employees standing around the bar for social hour. Everything about this visit was unpleasant and it's quite disappointing that we traveled so many hours to an area that we only visit once a year and this was the experience we had to endure. Food and salad are excellent, it's been awhile since I've dined at a OSF. The service was lack luster, had to find waitress for drink refills and she hasn't checked on us since. Waiting to order the ice cream that comes with meal. We had to remind her to bring our warm loaf of bread with our entree and spoons for our ice cream- Duh ‼ We had to ask for spoon for dessert. 5 stars for food - 1 star for service at best. Damon Davis, your manager, saved the day for our party when the host would not seat us in the timely manner, even though many tables were open. We were in a time crunch and I asked Damon if he could assist us. He was amazing and was organizing the entire restaurant but still took time to see and help us, seating us with Bridgit, who is a phenomenal server- and got us all in and out within an hour with laughter and smiles all around. I had brought 4 guests that had not experienced the wonderfulness of OSF, and now we are all going back several times this week while we are visiting Louisville, KY. Spectacular job, Damon! I had such a great experience at The Old Spaghetti Factory thanks to our server, Tirone. He was friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. The food was great too! A family sitting near me was being very difficult. The wife kept changing her mind and insisting she had ordered things she clearly had not. Even with all of the confusion and pressure, Tirone handled the situation with so much patience, kindness, and grace. He never lost his composure and continued to treat them respectfully. I made sure to let his manager know that the issue was not Tirone's fault and that he had done an outstanding job. It was obvious he was doing everything he could to make the family happy. I even managed to make him smile and let him know he was not crazy because I saw exactly what happened. Tirone is the kind of server every restaurant hopes to have. The food is consistently good, with the possible exception of a side salad that was anything but fresh. The lasagna portion was a huge mound of goodness. The spaghetti & meatballs were perfectly prepared. The pasta slightly al denté with no water runoff. The meatballs had great flavor. My wife's gluten free pasta was bland. Not because of poor pasta (to the contrary), but the marinara was rather flavorless. Two other diners ordered chicken parmigiana and I heard no complaints. My wife and I were in town, from Atlanta, and went to dinner with our daughter and son-in-law, grandkids, the in-laws parents and their other children. The first thing I noticed was the amount of people. I mean Slam Packed! Then, the interior design was just beautiful. Dark wood flooring throughout the entire restaurant, with some stained glass window panels (all original apparently, the big hutches with marble or granite tops and the chandeliers. It was so beautiful in there. As aforementioned, it was packed! However, just two minutes into sitting our server, Ryan, approached the table, and let us know he'd be with us shortly, that he wanted to take care of a couple of tables, so that he could give us some undivided attention. We asked if we could get some waters to start, and this is where I initially was taken aback if you will. Ryan said that with that many people at the table and the amount of people in the restaurant, that he recommends he circle back in 2-3 minutes to where we could take our whole order, though he'd be more than happy to get just drinks first. We never heard that before but we agreed as he said it'd expedite the process and he'd be able to give us more undivided attention that way. Ryan came back, took our order and said he'd be right back. My wife and I were beginning to wonder where he was, the grandkids were hungry, and all of a sudden here comes our server with a tray, a bunch of salads for the table, and before I could inquire about our drinks, there''s 3-4 more servers with a tray each containing drinks, bread, salads, soups. The waiters helping began auctioning off our things when Ryan said to them, "thanks for you help, but I can take care of it. And Ryan begins passing out all our salads, drinks, bread, clockwise around the table, then says he's going to the bar.... Wouldn't you know it here he comes with wine, a sangria pitcher, a martini, some shakes for the kids. This guy was busy, but he was able to stay on top of it. I noticed the other wait staff yelling out "who got meatballs?" And auctioning off their things to their tables, tables not listening. I mean from the outside, it was busy, hectic, fast paced, while our server was like in complete control of his other tables, my family, and was just super organized. When you go here,'ask for Ryan. The food was great , the server was incredible, a tall black guy came and checked in on us, and we were just so pleased with how our evening went that I wanted to write this review. I had made a reservation for us to celebrate my birthday. There were 16 of us and the hostess sat us in the room across from the hostess desk at TWO separate tables. We asked multiple times to be moved to ONE table and they said they were unable to accommodate us. So we were not together for my birthday dinner that I chose your restaurant to be with friends and family. I'm very disappointed in the management of your restaurant as they never came to check on us or see what they could do to fix the situation. My family and I visited for our annual New Year's Eve dinner in downtown Louisville. I hope they were just having an off night as it was not the best experience. We dine there at least once or twice a year before going to Actors. While the ambiance remained the same the service was disappointing. We arrived on time for our reservation and were promptly seated. After being seated it took 30 minutes for our waiter to come to the table. There were several staff that walked by our table during that time that saw us sitting there, no drinks, bread or plates. After waiting 20 minutes and watching others near us get seated, served drinks and bread, I left our table and went to the host to ask if we could be served. It took an additional 10 minutes for the waiter to come to the table for the first time. We were actually preparing to leave. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication at the host stand or what the situation was. We were never given an explanation. Which isn't necessary, but it only got worse from there. When our waiter finally came to the table he seemed confused or maybe preoccupied throughout our time there. At one point, he refilled two drinks with water that were Sprites. When we quietly asked for it to be corrected to avoid embarrassing him he replied, "Oh, yeah, my bad." He was absent during most of our time there. So much so we asked for the check before ordering the 3rd course of Spumoni. He did offer for it to go, we refused. We didn't want it to be like the bread we requested earlier that he admitted, unapologetically, that he forgot, after we asked a second time. We watched as other patrons were seated, enjoy their meals and left, while we were there just waiting for corrected drinks, bread, or our food. As I stated earlier, I really hope they were just having an off night. We will return at some point to try again, but it will not be a special occasion, holiday or before a show. We make every effort, as locals, to support downtown businesses. I can't be sure we would return if this was our first experience. read more

The food also came late. Between the appetizer and entree, we had to wait 40 minutes! Like literally! We are a party of 7, but it was only 5 entree since my kids shared their food. First time visiting one of these restaurants... but hubby and son went to one in San Diego so thought we'd give the Louisville location a try. Wines by the bottle were reasonable as were the menu pricing. The dinners came with vanilla ice cream or spumoni for dessert. My son had lasagna, hubby had pasta with Italian sausage and I had the chicken Marsala ... all were very good and portions were "just right". Server was friendly and attentive but not overly so. I had the cheese bread appetizer which was superb and for my entree, I had the Sicilian meatballs. The food was outstanding. I also really loved the atmosphere. I found myself in downtown Louisville with plenty of work and very little time, so I stopped in for takeout from Old Spaghetti Factory. An order of spaghetti (seriously, what else?) that surprisingly came with a mini salad in a Chinese take-out tub, a loaf of bread and a scoop of spumoni ice cream. A full meal that tasted great, took very little time to order, and cost about $15 total. Not bad at all. If you're looking for a gourmet meal, then you might look elsewhere. So this place was very interesting. There were good things, but there were lots of things that cannot be overlooked. First, let me say this isn't a problem with the servers. The servers were great and did what they could. However, we came to this place to celebrate the upcoming marriage of two amazing people. My good friend set a reservation almost a year in advance. So you would expect things to go smoothly. However, that wasn't the case. We ended up being seated at the smallest table in the room and struggled to find seating for the bridal party and other guests. To me it seems very unprofessional, especially when they knew such a large party was going to be dining at their establishment. If you planned this ahead of time and were using your hard earned money, how would you feel? The overall service was decent. Our waitress did her best to satisfy the needs of our large party. It took a pretty long time to get the drinks out (roughly 30 minutes), but that's understandable with a large party. Throughout the entire dinner she tried to make sure our drinks were refilled and bread was brought out. The only disappointment was that with all of the issues we had, the manager never came out once to check if our experience was good or to apologize about any of the mishaps. I do agree that the customer isn't always right. However, with some of the issues we were experiencing, it felt wrong that the manager didn't even come to make sure our food or service was okay. The food was delicious. The reason this is getting even two stars is because the food was good and our waitress kept a positive attitude. We had a choice of Fettuccine Alfredo, Lasagna, and pasta with marinara (wedding party). My fiancée had the marinara and I had the Alfredo (this wasn't my wedding party, it was my friends). The Alfredo was delicious, the fettuccine was perfectly al dente and the Alfredo sauce really had a good strong flavor of parmesan that coated every noodle. The pasta with marinara was also very good. The pasta sauce with slightly sweet and it was very well seasoned. Despite having no meat in it the sauce was the highlight of the dish with how flavorful it was. Turning such a simple dish into something delicious and unforgettable. Overall, the food was good and I would definitely eat here again. Just with how my friend was treated on such an important time for him is unacceptable. I had lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 12 pm. I went with a large group of 10 people so I expected there will be a long wait for the table; however, it was only about a 15 minute wait - not too bad! But the wait for the food was absurdly long - almost an hour, which made the wait for the table feel like nothing. When wait times get that long, the food expectations get very high in order for the wait to be justified. In this case, my spaghetti was far from being worth the wait. I had the manager's favorite with the mushroom and white clam sauce. I came to this restaurant expecting some generic spaghetti because spaghetti is such a classic, homey dish - it's hard to elevate without losing the authenticity. Hell, it's a dish every beginner home cook should learn! So when I waited almost an hour for spaghetti that I could probably make better at home, I was a little disappointed. The sauces were a bit liquid-y to my taste so they didn't coat the noodles well enough. It's like I was eating noodles in small pool of tomato and clam soup. I did like the complimentary bread and the house salad. I had mixed feelings about the service. The server was friendly and was able to split the checks for our large table. But she disappeared the entire time we were waiting for our food. So we weren't able to ask for updates on the food nor were we regularly checked on to refill drinks, etc. Had I known there was only one chef in the kitchen, I'd be a little more forgiving about the wait. But I didn't find out until after I paid for the meal. I liked the colorful Victorian-style interior design of this restaurant. Pretty cool there was a train bus inside. Overall, it was pretty average spaghetti with an absurd wait time and lackluster service. I don't think it's worth returning unless they improve their service and wait times. I do want to extend my commendations to the lone chef for sticking it through and still managed to cook all the food for it to arrive at our table at the same time. read more
