TERRIBLE STEAK AND SEAFOOD SUPPLIER? We started going to the Old Warsaw 38 years ago. But it really has gone far downhill since they moved to their new location 9 years ago. We will not return. Our worst fine dining experience ever. I'm not sure how they stay in business. The owner is very awkward to say the least. Not caring at all about his customers. Hard to get any attention at all. Slow night, only 3 other tables seated in the two hours we were in there. So the owner was the waiter. He pushed the wine list at us immediately. (That's evidentally where they make their major profit - off of expensive bottles.) We said we're not sure yet, we had just sat down. So he walks away in a huff, taking the wine and cocktails list with him. We eventually got his attention 10-15 minutes later to get the drinks menu to order cocktails. Drinks were great. The appetizers were wonderful. Greek salad. Crab cakes. The pianist was wonderful. But the meal went way downhill after that. In 40 years of traveling & dining and writing restaurant reviews for several magazines, this was absolutely the worst steak ever. Prime ribeye. Not just typical marbling, but it was over 50% fat? I didn't realize when the steak arrived, since the table lighting was very dark, and the steak was covered in mushrooms, onions, dark sauce etc. Masking its appearance. It was truly inedible. I ate 3 bites where I could find steak meat - and not the huge globs of fat. He's using a very cheap supplier for his beef. Shame on him. We'd been there for two hours already, so I didn't take the time to send the steak back for a redo. I should have. But it was our anniversary, and I didn't want the commotion in front of my wife on her special night. Her salmon was very salted. Not good. (Maybe it was not fresh and he was hiding the taste. I don't know?) She only ate half of it. We had tiramisu and strawberry shortcake for dessert. The cakes were very dry (old, not freshly baked. Frozen?) literally too dry to get it down my throat easily. So both of the desserts were awful, we just some of the moister toppings only. This was not the traditional tiramisu with lady fingers like it used to be here, it was just dry cake. So we left, never to return again. Read the other reviews about Old Warsaw. The atmosphere was beautiful it's so romantic inside and out but unfortunately the food is so bland. For the price it wasn't worth it in any sense. Also the menu doesn't have descriptions on what you're ordering either. Unimpressed, tbh. First, there was no valet available on the night we went. No biggie, but slightly confusing upon arrival. Second, once we entered the restaurant there was literally no one to greet us or guide us on where to go. We just walked around aimlessly until some guy came from a side door and asked me my name. And then seated me. Okay.... The person that I assume was our waiter, was abrasive. "READY TO ORDER YET?" Geez. Haphazardly placed a bottle of wine on the table and tried to upsale us. The food was decent, at best. The salmon still had bones in it smh. Steak wasn't cook properly. Mac and cheese was overcooked and grainy. The baked goat cheese was pretty good, although overpowered with too much honey. Carrot cake was dry, but flavor was good. The ambiance was intimate and there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant. There was music playing on overhead speakers...kinda jazz/pop. Like Bruno Mars & Ed Sheeran. tye Hubs and I were there last Thursday night. I'd never been and was surprised that we could walk in and get a table so easily. The waiter was very attentive and recommended an excellent wine. We had the ribeye and I had the salmon. Both were absolutely excellent. A piano player played all our requests. He played Gershwin, Dean Martin, Tommy Dorsey, and Glenn Miller. My husband and I went for our anniversary dinner. This was not the place we expected to celebrate in. Regardless, we stayed and ate. It was quite disappointing as I was looking forward to a nice dinner all day. Sunday a lot of other places are closed so we tried this one; my husband said this had been around for years so he thought he would try this. I wish I had read the reviews before going. I would not go again unless I wasn't celebrating anything and just wanted to eat. But probably not bc I could just go to Texas Roadhouse or Dunstons steak house and get better service and food for the price. Sorry I did not like this place at all. This small restaurant is a real gem in Saint Thomas area. The ambiance is pleasant, restrained elegance, peace and quiet, and when we were there, at a pretty late hour of the evening, the place was sparsely attended, with a nice piano music in the background. The food is inspired by the French cuisine, with some add-ons to honor the regional tastes. Our party tried brie soup, which was very tasty, and sampled Lobster Thermidor, goose paté, steak tartar, and several other delicacies. Everything was very tasty, and service was impeccable. House wine was served without disclosure of the origin, but it was reasonably good match for our food choices (all we got from the waiter was that it was sourced in California). Service: there was no one at the front entry to seat us. Waited 10 minutes then called the restaurant to ask if they were open (we did have reservations). After being sat and ordered wine we sat for 20 minutes before anyone or anything arrived at table. When we needed something we had to wave our arms in the air. Food: some thongs good others not so much. We had the lobster bisque, french onion and brie soups at the table. None were very good. The brie had no brie in it. It was more of a vichyssoise without the potatoes. The lobster had minimal lobster in it. The french onion had no bread, just a small amount of cheese and undercooked onions. Tasted like warm water. Crab cake for appetizer was just ok. Kind of bland. Steak Diane was good but seemed to be lacking in the dijon sauce. Beef Wellington was great. The ribeye was ok. The reviews are accurate. I was excited to have dinner here based on their menu options but was hesitant due to the reviews here.Let's start with what was right...the ambiance is amazing. They've done a very good job with maintaining that late 1940's feel. It feels better private and very relaxed. Older crowds though....nothing wrong with older crowds but this is not an upbeat place just fyi.The service was nothing special, they were very slow, forgot things we asked for a couple of times...the waiter was not rude...just not very attentive. The food...the NY steak was mediocre and though, the beef Wellington was pretty good, the creme brûlée was completely liquified (meaning not cooked) and let's just say Walmart has better hazelnut cake. The price for what you get is not the best. We spent $200 and ordered 2 of their prefixed menus, an old fashioned and a glass of wine. I want to start out by saying out waitress Erica is a 5 star! Next ...I want to say, love the warm feel the resturant gives. Now ...my meal was not messed up once, not twice, not 3 times.... more. I don't fault our waitress by no means .... 1. Asked for soup to come out extremely hot! Bowl half full and room temp. Even when my soup was put down, Erica knew it needed to go back to the kitchen! Ordered lobster bisque soup and there was not one piece of lobster in it. Very light with the texture and took almost 45 minutes to get. Did not even finish it because I was worried I'd get sick. 2. The main course, I ordered the 22oz bone in ribeye steak with a loaded baked potato. I asked for the baked potato to be piping hot along with a side of melted butter so I could drizzle on top. Steak way over cooked and so tough, that as Erica saw me cut it...she knew it had to go back. Second time, way undercooked, to the point I could not even eat it! Baked Potato came out dry both times, not hot and no melted butter to be found! 3. Asked for my meal togo, only to get home and half of its missing. The bread had the be the best thing I ate on this evening. 4. A couple of the desserts they offered on the menu, they did not have! My dessert tasted gross and could only get down two bites. 5. Blessed to be around so great people this night! The celebration was a 5 star. 6. Valet is complementary, so tip (you can Venmo) 7. I will never eat here again! Only order a drink and possibly a salad! 8. Called resturant to let them know half my meal was missing. I honestly don't even think they cared! 9. My togo meal, went in the trash. We had dinner on 7/19/2024 to celebrate my birthday! Our reservations were at 6p. Nobody was in the restaurant that early, so we had the whole place to ourselves, which was great!! We ordered a Cosmo and a White Russian which were very tasty and well prepared. Appetizers were Escargot and Salmon. Again very well prepared and the service was spot on. The mains were a 12oz. Pepper Steak and I had the Sea Bass. We shared both. Both were delicious!! Again Service was spot on. Not early, Not Late. Dessert was a Grand Marnier Soufflé and Crème Brule', which was just a tad too sweet! The place is old school, romantic, soft lighting, just classic!!! Loved it! I have been eating at this place since my early college days, when it was located on Cedar Springs. Still a lovely place to have a very nice unhurried dinner. We love experiencing the various iconic restaurants around the metroplex and were excited to try this establishment... until we arrived. The host and subsequent servers were awkward and felt more like inexperienced family members instead of the skilled servers you'd expect. The facility was incredibly dated, the temperature was stifling, and the table cloths were wrinkled as if they'd just come out of the dryer. The crab cake appetizer was soggy and comprised of the lowest quality product possible. My filet was tough (though I'll say my husband thought his NY strip was fine), and the deserts definitely came out of a box. AND the meal was just as expensive as a high-quality steakhouse. Despite the beautifully appointed, old world dining room, the restaurant has a lively, stained glass-backed bar where one can catch a game and chat with the bartender. The Old Warsaw seems to be one of those "love it or hate it" places that has its share of both great and awful reviews. That's not surprising. Many Americans label European style restaurants' service as bad or slow, not understanding that lingering over a meal and eating at a leisurely place is the norm in other parts of the world. If you haven't been in a while, I recommend giving it another try. It had been at least ten years since we were there last, and I remember the food being very good but the wait staff being stuffy and unfriendly and trying to upsell us on the wine. However, when my husband asked where I'd like to go for a special Independence Day Eve dinner, I chose the Old Warsaw, after reading countless menus, because it was the only place in DFW I could find that had escargot, lobster thermidor, AND bananas foster. That is my dream meal. It did not disappoint. Our reservation was for 5:00 pm and we got there about 10 minutes early. The parking lot guy (more on that later) held the doors for us and delivered us into the restaurant, which was empty, and we were seated immediately. Everyone was more than friendly. We had the place to ourselves for at least 45 minutes. We ordered drinks and they were not at all stingy on the pours. Service was, as is European style, not rushed at all but not slow. We nibbled on the basket of bread (which was very good) until the appetizers arrived. My husband had both the paté and the goat cheese. I tried some of the cheese and it was yummy. But my escargot went above and beyond. The snails themselves were tender, not at all rubbery, and the sauce sent it over the top. Definitely the best escargot I've had (and I order it almost everywhere that offers it). The lobster thermidor also exceeded my expectations. It wasn't huge but I was glad, since I wanted to save room for the bananas foster. The lobster was tender and succulent and had just the right mix of lobster and mushrooms in the delicious cream sauce. I savored every bite. My husband had the ribeye, which he devoured so it must have been pretty good, too. The bananas foster was listed as being for two. I could have eaten the whole thing but am glad I didn't have that option as I'd have been as stuffed as the lobster shell. The dessert was prepared flambé style, tableside and it was the perfect wrapup to one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. Even the coffee afterward was just right - strong but not too strong, and very flavorful. All in all, it was a wonderful experience, marred only by the difficulty of getting out of the parking facility due to some vehicles that were blocking the narrow drive. It took a while for the parking attendant (I won't call him a valet as he didn't park our car, merely directed us where to park) to maneuver them so we could get out. This caused my husband - who was driving - some frustration. I'm not sure how they could fix it, given the location and design of the facility.
