Really like this restaurant. This place was hippster, before hippster was cool. Anyway, the food's delicious and fresh, and the service is usually good. They've been open forever, which is a good sign for any restaurant. Stir-frys are good, soups always delicious, and lots of good lunch sandwiches. I believe they're vegan friendly, I'm not a vegan so I'm not 100% sure, but they have lots of veggie and tofu options, and also have chicken and fish. read more

We were on a cross country road trip and found ourselves at the orchard. We were absolutely impressed with the service - the girl who waited on our table was polite and noticed the moment we needed something. We had the coconut shrimp to start which was to die for - so crunchy but tasted really fresh. I had the tempura zucchini with penne (amazing). The penne was al dente with plenty of garlic and olive oil - the zucchini had this red sauce and a layer of cheese on it. I couldn't eat it all and our server boxed it up so nicely that I was able to eat it in the car a few hours later; still so yummy. I would absolutely recommend the orchard! read more

I am honestly really sad that I am moving from Frederick now that I've had the chance to go downtown a little more. I ate at the Orchard yesterday after a punishing long run and it totally hit the spot. The autumn harvest soup they had was super delicious and my waitress was really sweet and awesome. To be blunt, the wonderfully creative chef and the exceptional staff just get it. Add to that the locally grown, organic, and simply delicious vegetables, meats and seafood and you have a consistent winning dining experience every time. Had a wonderful dinner at the Orchard last Friday. Spanish saute appetizer was terrific, stir fries and the special fluke dish were outstanding. Pumpkin cheesecake topped it off with just the right amount of sweet. Can't say enough about the service. We'll be back! read more

The Orchard is a vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant although i do believe they serve chicken and fish as well. I've been here several times and always have great service and food. I'm a trained chef so I'm pretty picky. They make their own bread, salad dressings, etc... Hands down one of my favorite restaurants ever. Okay, I've had so many guests come and stay with us, we take them here. Every single one of them has loved every dish they have ordered. One family member from LA California (who eats at all the up and coming places, famous places) said how very tasty her meal was. She had the chicken parm. That dish is very filling! My husband gets that all the time and will continue to crave it all week long! I've been to just about every eating establishment! Frederick is full of great restaurants! I can say that the each one has it's crowned jewel of a dish! But this place has many more precious gems than most. read more

The Orchard gets two stars for nice and helpful waitstaff, but minus three stars for the quality of their food. In one word: gross. Our dishes, the Indian stir fry and the Chinese stir fry, were so salty, they were practically inedible. My stir fry was more like a soup with very little rice and the veggies were soggy and seemed like they came from a bag. The salmon in my dish was grey, over done, and chopped up before it was cooked, which made it really unappetizing to look at. There was a heavy fishy taste to the fish as well. The dish was supposed to be in a ginger sauce, but the only thing I tasted was salt and fish. Yuck. This made me think it had been living in a freezer for a while. Overall, it seemed like a dish I could make at home with more quality ingredients and it would definitely taste better! I don't understand the great reviews of this place at all! We ended up paying for two virtually uneaten meals and going someplace else to eat dinner again. read more

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food was excellent. My mushroom soup was light and filled with mushrooms, not thick and pastey. My daughter loved her sandwich, oohing and ahhing over the bread in particular. We are both serious eaters and we left very happy. Also the wait staff wa wonderful! The Orchard is our favorite restaurant in Frederick, and we go out a lot. My husband and I go there for delicious, fresh, lovely dinners (we especially like their variety of ethnic and seafood stir fries, their great salads (Sesame Vinaigrette dressing! yum!), fresh bread, and the ambiance--local art (well-selected), skilled and unique waitstaff who seem happy to be there and helping--loyal and enthusiastic about this locally-owned and chef/ed restaurant. The place is quietly lively. We can enjoy a conversation in a twosome or group. Definitely a Frederick favorite of lots of people, with the sort of interesting clientele you enjoy being among. My political, church and arty friends like lunching here.... Fast service, reasonable prices, tasty desserts, good wine and beer, what's not to like? Long live the Orchard. read more

We have been to this restaurant many times over the years and always loved the food. Our last visit left us less than impressed. The food has definitely changed. I usually get the sesame chicken with soba noodles and it has always been my favorite. Now, it is more like fancy chicken nuggets with some cold new sauce. The noodles were too saucy and the asparagus did not look appetizing. Did they get a new chef maybe? My husband had a stir-fry and he said that seemed different as well. I was introduced to "The Orchard" by a mutual friend, who is very picky about her food, for lunch one day. I was very impressed with the spinach salad and the half-grilled cheese sandwich which I ordered for lunch. Then I took my hubby to The Orchard for dinner. He ordered the salmon and I ordered a curry stir fry with chicken. We both had the soup of the day and the iced tea. The food was fabulous and the service was impeccable. The prices are very reasonable. I used to work in the restaurant business years ago and I find that this restaurant is well deserving of the 5 star rating. Since the parking garage is nearby which makes accessability easy, this restaurant will always be my first choice when dining in downtown Frederick. read more

If you want fresh, tasty food, that is well prepared and reasonably priced, this is it! You won't find any beef or pork and there are lots of vegetarian choices, so if a Whopper dripping with grease and an order of overly-salted, greasy fries is your thing, don't come here. We have taken many guests here, including a number of Europeans who have eaten just about the best there is. They have all loved it. A true Frederick institution and deservedly so! read more

My lunch companion and I tend to get stuck in pleasant ruts when it comes to our very frequent lunches in Frederick. Right now we enjoying The Orchard. It would be hard to find anything negative to write about this restaurant. Compared to many of the neighboring restaurants, the food selection here is very healthy. If you want bar food with chips or french fries, this is not the place for you. However if you like brown rice or pasta stir fries, or dishes like zucchini parmigiana (one of my favs) you will enjoy The Orchard. Meat or shellfish are optional with many of the entrees. The atmosphere is "adult", relatively low noise level so that conversation is easy, and the artwork on the walls (including a large panel of reproduction Matisse cut outs) is quite pleasant. The beer and wine selection is more than adequate and there is an interesting selection of sodas. Service is above average and prices are reasonable. Our lunches for two with a glass of wine each run about $30. The Orchard is located in the heart of historic downtown Frederick. read more

Had lunch here today. My first thought cute ladies lunch place. As, our experience progressed not so much. First, we stood by the hostess for ten minutes with out her noticing anyone was there. Finally as a line formed behind us she ushered us to a table without really speaking. Wait service was no existent, did not tell us the specials til after we ordered. Never came back to fill waters or drinks. Food was ok. Two people had sandwiches which came with salad dressing? No salad? We were told to poor it over the sandwiches, yuck! We did taste them and they were fine, but salad dressing on a tuna melt? Again yuck. Nine dollars for a tuna melt with salad dressing and no other sides too much. Never offered desert or coffee. Did I mention they were not crowded so server was not over worked. Other sandwich was a portabella mushroom on homemade bread. It was okay but very greasy. One person had a salad which they thought was good, and the stirfry was mushy. Not sure why this place got such good reviews. Have to say at least my company was good! read more

I went here for a nice family dinner for my mother's birthday. We had originally made a reservation for 4, however, my brother, coming from out of town, was able to join us at last minute making it a true family meal. Unfortunately for us, we were greeted at the door by the OWNER of the restaurant who was not happy at the fact that he would need to seat one more person. Appalled by his rude comments about being an inconvenience, i was told to sit by the door as we waited for the rest of our group. Unable to understand why the owner would not want to serve another paying guest, i waited for my family but was quickly prompted to follow him to the back room and he told me that we needed to be out by 7 since he had another party coming in. What?! I am unable to eat my meal without rushing? That was certainly clear as the owner came to me, as I waited for my family to come, twice to ask where they were. I was early to the reservation, so I was astonished to see him rushing me to even put in a drink order. Once my family had all been seated and we had ordered our food, the owner periodically came in and out of the room glancing at us, making our meal less than enjoyable. By the end of the night, the owner brought us our check without us even asking for it. As if to say, "leave now" or "you have finished your food, now go". How rude. I am so upset that my mother could not even enjoy a piece of dessert without having to be told to go. I will make sure that I tell people, when asked, that the orchard is not a place to go. The service was horrible and it saddens me even more that it was the owner that was so inconsiderate. read more
