We came to try the LBFS Week Menu, three courses. It was definitely one of the more enticing menus from the list but after seeing the segment on Today LA with Brian Addison, we had to go. Watching the chef make and describe the Salmon Crudo appetizer, it was a must try. Fortunately it's a regular on their menu so if you miss LBFS Week (ends tomorrow), you can get it any time. Service was excellent. Our server was Luxa and checked on us often! We had a caraf of water on the table and that was perfect! They have a nice list of wines and beers and we it turned out it was still Happy Hour! Nice offering of bites and all beers were $2 off and wines were $3 off a glass or $10 off a bottle! My husband orders a Hef and I orderd a glass of white (Picpoul), great picks. For food, we ordered the LBFS Menu. We started with the Dalmon Crudo, amazing and we will be back to have it again. The taste with creme frauche and the texture with the Rye bread crumbs was just amazing!! Definitely the best salmon appetizer we have had to date! Nect came the Caesar Salad, excellent! We both ordered lobster roll. IYKYK the only way to serve a lobster roll is on a toasted East Coast style hot dog roll and they do it right here. One of the best Lobster rolls locally. Loaded wit lobster meat and served warm (as it should be, not cold with mayo), accompanied with warm butter, yes! It came with a lot of fries, and those were very good, can't believe we both finished eating them all! It was my birthday and Lyca brought out a huge piece of cake with a candle! I came here for a Happy Hour on Friday. The happy hour is from 4pm-6pm and we got there around 4.45pm. Well it was enough of time to order all the good stuff from the menu. This was my first time to Liv's. I know. Shocking. I've heard good things about this place especially about the oysters, but I guess I just never made the move. Well let me tell you I'm going to keep coming back for those delicious and fresh raw oysters!! Don't look back! This place is so unassuming. Very chill, not too big, and fairly easy to get a table (at least when I visited on HH). Service was good too, no complaints - although closer to the end of the HH, it got a little slower since more people started coming. We ordered 2 dozens of oysters (10/10, will do again). It was $19 per half a dozen, for happy hour. I think on Mondays they have even cheaper price for the oysters, which I'll do next. We also ordered mini wedge (good), lobster rolls (pretty good, but the lobster was slightly dry IMO), crudo, chowder (good taste but it's runny. Wonder if it's their style of chowder or just that one time), fried calamari (good but nothing special), fried oyster caesar (good salad, maybe next time I don't get the fried oyster), hot fish sliders (good). Oh we also got the cocktails, and I really like the margarita. If you've never been to their happy hour, it's a great chance to try on their different dishes and find what you really like. I attended a special Winemaker Dinner at Liv's this week. Recipes and wine pairings were arranged with Liv's Chef, Rob White and Sherman Thacher, of the Paso Robles Winery that bears his name. It was a sell-out crowd, that came to explore this special collaboration. We started with a Garlic Bread, baked at local Hey Brother Bakery, served with an olive oil dipping sauce. Followed by Dressed Raw Oysters served with a refreshing cold Chenin Blanc. The next course was Baja Bluefin Tuna Crudo served with the Cinsault. The third course was the Baked Clams with Chorizo Stuffing. This delightful dish was served with the Nouveau Wine, which was my highlight of the event. The clams were dressed with, what the Chef called Sea Asparagus- wow! Loved it!! The next course was the Crab-Stuffed Fig Leaves. The wine pairing for this was a Muscat Canelli. This is a light wine, that was surprisingly delicious and not sweet, as so many Muscats are. The dessert course was Nectarines and Cream. This is an amazing dish! The cream was perfectly delicious with broken up pieces of meringue...it melted in your mouth. This was served with a surprising Apple Cider, to finish the feast. This is one of the most underrated date night spots in Long Beach. I went here on a Monday for their Oyster Hour, which features great deals on things like their seafood platters. I got their seafood platter, and let me tell you, it's worth every penny! It is fresh, flavorful, opulent, and downright delicious. My favorite thing on there is the shrimp, which are perfectly cooked, plump, juicy, and coated in the sweet, spicy, smoky rub. It's perfect.  I also got the caesar salad and the nNashville hot fish and chips. Everything was so spectacular with a bottle of white wine. Overall, the food was really good. We ordered oysters, Caesar salad, calamari, bread with olive tapenade, lava cake, and a couple dirty martinis. The oysters were fresh, the calamari was good, and the bread with tapenade was one of my favorite things we ordered. The only food disappointment was the lava cake. It was more like a cupcake with a hardened fudge filling than an actual lava cake. The dirty martinis were extremely sweet. Our server explained they don't have a full bar and make their martinis with sake, which definitely should've been mentioned on the menu because it was very unexpected. Amazing. Finished off with a creamsicle cheesecake - Basque, with fresh orange, vanilla, citrus icing paired with espresso. My friend and I were walking along 2nd street looking for dessert and she had just mentioned loving toffee. We walked by and saw they had a butter toffee cake and knew this would be our next stop! We just wanted dessert because we had dinner already but we both loved oysters and ended up getting a dozen. They were big, full of brine, and very delicious and savory. They were less creamy than I would like but still good! I tried one of the oysters Liv's style. I didn't really care for it much for the extra price because I love just a good ol oyster. For dessert, we of course got the butter toffee cake and another orange cake. I forgot what it was called exactly but it was their special for the night and was supposed to be like an orange creamsicle. Both were beautifully plated and delicious! The quality was amazing but they were both a bit too sweet that I got sick of it pretty easily. The inside was dimly lit and the vibes felt really elegant! It's a perfect spot for a date. I gotta say, one of the best seafood platters I've had in a while. And had an option of caviar to add. Oysters here tasted fresh and their crudo was amazing. I went ahead and topped the crudo off with a small hit of caviar, so good! I topped the oysters with caviar as well , why not lol We came on an Easter Sunday so it wasn't crowded at all. But I can see this place being a packed house especially during the summer. Their crab ravioli dish was soooo good, I'd recommend ordering that dish if you are in the mood for pasta. Saturday June 27. Happy Hour Our most Fave server( Luka) was not there but Juliette ..took xlnt care of us . My wife spent 2 weeks in Alaska recently and was SPOILED for great seafood... so her memory was fresh. So how did Liv's seafood compare? Alaska was a 10".. Liv's is an 8. The sourdough bread crumbs were crispy and gave a great crunch 4/5 Chargrilled Oysters: I prefer oysters this way over eating them raw. I wish it was a serving of 6 instead of 4. Only docking a star because while the flavor and cheese were amazing it's wasn't as "charred" as I'm used to it's definitely more creamy because of the cheese but again the flavors were amazing I was just expecting a little crisp. There's hot sauce but it's not spicy (to me that was a good thing) I'm not the best with spicy. 5/5 seasonal Arnold palmer. Mine was pomegranate lemonade and tropical iced tea. Served in a large mason jar. The portion was great considering usually places like this give you a small glass for lemonade or iced tea. 5/5 ambiance. Indoor, outdoor and bar seating is available. There was plenty of seating when I went. The bathroom you do have to walk through the kitchen. A little jarring but everything looked clean and the staff was friendly. What was also really cute when they give you the check, they give you a postcard to fill out and they will send it for you. 3/5 parking. Obviously not the restaurants fault. Metered parking every day of the week (it's Long Beach) and it's $6 for two hours and can get pretty packed so make sure you allow for parking time. read more

I have bookmarked this place for over a year and finally got to stop by while staying the weekend in seal beach area. It's such a cute and cozy little place and definitely has good vibes. Food was delicious but I have to say I feel bad knowing they don't have enough help in the kitchen. It was Easter Sunday and it was busy that weekend especially around the nice areas. Our food took longer than expected but I totally understand why. Service was so nice and they apologized so you couldn't be too upset about it. Had a great experience here. Came on a Thursday evening and sat at the bar. There was no one else inside, only a couple of tables occupied outside on the patio. They also had the stroll and savor event going on on 2nd street that night so that might be why it was dead. Our waitress was attentive and quick with the service. We ordered oysters and they were delicious. I'm really picky when it comes to oysters too lol. Bread and butter was soooo good I dunno what they put in that butter but my goodness. I also got the lobster roll - simple, hearty, buttery! the fries were bomb too. The seafood tasted fresh and clean. They only have beer and wine so I opted for a glass of Sauvignon blanc. Oysters and caviar? What a luxury! When I came across Liv's on Yelp, I immediately sent it to my boyfriend so we could go on our next date outing. Liv's is in Long Beach near Naple's Island. There's a lot of businesses in the area. From what we saw there were a few paid lots, but we got really lucky and found street parking a few blocks away. I made a reservation on Open Table since some reviews mentioned they get busy, but they weren't too busy when we came. We sat at the bar area, and I basically ordered to my heart's delight to make our trek to Long Beach worth it. We were inquiring about their Lover's Platter ($72) compared to their Beach Tower ($120) and decided that the Beach Tower had more substance and variety. It comes with 16 oysters, salmon crudo, bay scallop crudo, lobster salad, 6 prawns, and all the fixins. We also did the Cracks and Caviar ($28) add on. We also got a Lobster Roll ($38) that comes with hand-cut fries. Considering how not-busy they were our order took too long to prepare. There is a 50 minute delay from when we placed our order to when we got our food. One of couples that came AFTER us and ordered AFTER us who sat in the patio came in and ordered the smaller platter and got their order before us. I didn't like that. Also when they were preparing the caviar, they threw in this pile of salt. The girl bumped into it and the salt fell into the caviar and she decided it needed MORE SALT. WTF!! Caviar is already salty. And for such a nice luxury item, I was shocked to see they served it with Ritz Crackers. I understand making blinis would be a lot of work but use a nicer cracker than ritz for caviar please. The oysters they had were Mere Points, Maine and Blish Pints, Massachusetts. I asked if they typically get pacific north west oysters and it doesn't sound like they do. The staff was going on and on about how she really liked them. That's personal preference. The salmon crudo, bay scallop crudo, and lobster salad looked like prepped items they easily plated. It was simple but tasty. The prawns were super huge and had a nice dipping sauce with it. I liked having the tower and everything so I can make my perfect bite with oysters and caviar. The bread for the lobster roll was a little hard and not warm and soft like I'd normally like. The lobster was okay. The butter really makes it better. The fries are hand cut in house. If you like In & Out fries, you'd like these, but they might be soggy to some folks. We happen to like In & Out fries, so it works for us. Definitely a luxurious meal and I like being able to eat that much seafood to my heart's delight but there were a few aspects of execution that was a little disappointing. Oyster deals are my weakness! If you want to enjoy half off oysters on Mondays, then you need to head to Liv's in Long Beach! They have a small outer patio area that's dog friendly, and it's perfect for when the weather is warming up. They have a great selection of seafood dishes on their menu that were super fresh and tasty. We got the lobster roll that came with a little gem Caesar salad that I loved, as well as the guajillo clams and scallops in white wine sauce. For our main course, we again ordered off the Happy Hour menu with orders of Fish & Chips, Mussels, Cups of Chowder and delicious Chowder Fries. We again ordered Wayland Malbec wines and Japanese beers. The Toffee Cake and Lava Cakes finished off a wonderful experience. Our service attendant and other staff members were attentive, engaging and enthusiastic to ensure our experience to be wonderful. For Southern California and in particular Belmont Shore, our Fantastic Experience was $70 per person with a very generous tip. We will definitely be back. read more

So glad we stopped in for socal hour. We were the only ones in the restaurant the whole time which was surprising. It's a hidden gem, not cheap but delicious. However, the lemon aioli was really good. The Caesar salad was good. The way it was presented was flavorful. The Fish and Chips was really good. It was seasoned well where you don't need the tartar sauce. However, if you do use the tartar sauce, it was really good also and added to the taste. Came here with high hopes, very cute place with a beachy California vibe. It was a Saturday afternoon and there might have been 3 tables occupied. I was a bit saddened to see two Latino males come in and be completely ignored for a good five minutes. This might be speaking only of the fact that there was just one server out front. This was an unpleasant situation to witness. That said, our large group of 8 adults plus one toddler was accommodated. We each got either a cocktail or non alcoholic drink. I got the Ysidro spritz which had sake and grapefruit juice - very refreshing. I got a seafood chowder in a sourdough bread bowl , I ended up sharing this dish because the other entrees were not to our liking. The table had a burger and fries, a fish and chips plate plus completely inedible chargrilled guajillo mussels and scallop dish. This dish had too much of a burnt rosemary and tasted very much like water rather than white wine. We had asked the server to also check if the kitchen would prepare a smaller fish and chips dish for the toddler : she said she would check if the chef would do it but we did not hear about it again. We were halfway through our meal and flagged down another server to ask about it. Apparently the order was not placed. Our total bill came up to over $300 before tip. Granted the waitress was also the person who mixed our drinks, shucked oysters, ran food tabs for leaving customers and took in other customers! I don't like leaving a restaurant with a less than stellar review after spending so much money. So food overall was a maybe 6/10 with lots of improvement needed. If you want good food (especially oysters and Caesar salad) without caring about quality of service and time to get your food, come here. I've been here a handful of times both my myself and with friends and every single time, the slow service and inexperience of the servers is a discussion piece. I once had a server take away a not empty plate of salad after putting down a new dish - like, hello we weren't done with that? Their wine is served in stemless glasses that cannot be swirled and are chic rather than functional. The inside has terrible acoustics so you can hear every tables conversation - which, when combined with the music, makes for a very loud dining experience. Bar seats are backless and while great for a pub, are not comfortable for dining. Food takes an incredibly long time arrive and the servers are either in the back laughing or in front contributing to the loud noise. All in all, good food but everything from the seats, lighting, timing, service, cutlery, etc speaks of inexperience. read more

A friend of ours was visiting from Denver and we really wanted to be able to catch up with her life, hear how she's doing. But no. We shared a Shrimp Cocktail $20 and a Baby Gem Wedge $16. My husband ordered the Tom Kha Mussels $22, our friend had the Chowder $14 and I got the Lobster Roll $38. My Lobster Roll was good, but not worth $38. I went to Liv's with my partner for the first time yesterday. We're both lovers of seafood and particularly love raw oysters and other raw seafood dishes. I don't think either of was expecting the quality and sheer deliciousness of what we had here. Since we hadn't had any decent seafood in a while we splurged on the Beach Tower which included raw oysters, raw salmon, raw bay scallops in a salsa verde, lobster, jumbo shrimp, caviar, crème fraîche, crackers and assorted condiments. Honestly, there wasn't a single thing we didn't like. The shrimp were enormous and were served with a in-house made cocktail sauce...and they were absolutely superb. Ditto to the salmon and scallops and lobster. Each was accompanied by a sauce which served to bring out the flavor of the main ingredient. The oysters were very good and on the briney side (which I prefer). We made quick work of the 16 we were given. The oysters were so good that my partner ordered an oyster shooter (non-alcoholic). I'd actually, surprisingly, never had one before. It was a raw oyster with mignonette sauce, hot sauce and dash of pickle brine. It. Was. AWESOME. So many flavors married to each other. We subsequently ordered another 4 from our waitress. Speaking of our waitress, she was really charming and eager to answer our questions. We came in early, so were the first for the dinner seating. Liv's is my go-to when a relative visits or I just want a night out & not cook. I share the fresh oysters with company but myself? I crave the fried oysters which come on a caesar salad! Many places won't serve them fried & these are divine with a nice, crisp white wine. Salmon, salads, everything is delicious. It's always a lovely low key atmosphere. Waiters are very pleasant. Only down-side-I've been going there for 3 years & am always treated like a stranger -they don't seem to notice. At any rate highly recommend & glad it's a quiet, almost hidden option! read more

Went a random weekday evening and got seated right away. This place is doggo friendly so we got to sit in the patio area. If you find street parking it's free but there's also meter parking and just beware if it says 90 minutes they are strict on 90 minutes. We got a bunch of small bites including the salmon crudo which was AMAZING. Only 3 pieces but omg soooo good. Wish it was 4 pieces lol. We also each got a bowl of chowder which was also amazing. Not too heavy on seafood taste or onions like other places. Just the right amount too. We also got the lobster roll which came with a little butter cup which was also pretty good. Not amazing though, I've had better haha. The oysters were also good, we got one bad oyster in a dozen so just be careful, neither of us got sick but after eating it we knew it was bad. Get the oysters LIV'S WAY cause OMG it was amazing! You don't have to add anything else, omg so good, yes it's $4 more PER oyster but so worth it to at least do it to one just so you can taste the difference. Omg so good. We also got some shrimp tacos. 2 come in an order. Wasn't spectacular. Might skip this next time. We got the hot spiked cider which is season for after dinner and OMG it was soo good. I usually don't like hot alcoholic beverages but this was so YUM. I wish I got my own but we shared. The toffee butter cake was really good but we were too full by then. I took the spiced cardamom cake home to eat at work the next day with coffee... wasn't as good as when we had it at the restaurant but still pretty good. Overall great meal, for 2 people it did come out to over $100 each but we did order a lot but for their small bites "social hour" menu, it's not much of a discount lol, for food it ranges from $8-$22 and for drinks $5-$12. First Happy Hour of the school year and my friend whose bDay is on Sept has been wanting to try this spot. I arrived at 4:30 on a Friday with only one party there; but there were already multiple reserved seating placards on tables. I was asked if I had a reservation and my response was "did I need one?" There were only two tables for 4 available. One inside but for only an hour and one outside in the sun. We good the one of the patio outside. Social Hour is from 2-6pm, with limited options. 3 of my friends ordered the fish n chips, I got the shrimp tacos, and we shared the $38 lobster roll that had a small discount for "social hour" We also ordered wine, cider, and beer. The fish n chips was really fresh and not battered. They said it was good. I enjoyed my tacos. The twist was the "crispy shrimp" and jalapeño that gave it a little kick. Because we split the lobster roll, idk if I got the full flavor; but what I had was good. I could've done w/o the red peppers on top; but otherwise pretty tasty. The wine pours were extremely skimpy, and served in what mimicked a shot glass or candle votives lol I was not impressed with the Prickly Pear Cider. Flies!!! The Flies were such a major distraction while eating in the patio, it was frustrating. They only had one working device that spins at the table to keep the flies away (which tells me they know it's a fly issue), we were able to get it after a party left, and it was better. But my Gawd...prior to that it was trying to master shooing flies while covering drinks and eating food! Lol (hence my 3rating). Idk if I'd return for social hour b/c it was Mid (and not cheap); but my friend said she'd like to try for dinner. What a perfect plate of delicately fried fish and perfectly salty French fries. Paired with an ice cold Montuckey Pilsner and I was happy as a clam. My partner came here for an early dinner and shared oysters, drinks and this beautifully fried fish plate. The fish was flakey and the batter was thin, crispy and not too oily, and the oysters were fresh and succulent. We were looking for good seafood and Yelp recommended Liv's. We're glad it did. The food was excellent - oysters, lobster roll, and clams & scallops. The hostess asked if we had a reservation so we were a little worried. However she seated us right away at a window counter. The waitress was helpful and friendly.
