My in-laws are locals and we were visiting from California. They offered to take us to breakfast and this is where they brought us. The menu is a little intimidating, by intimidating I mean so many delicious choices!! We settled on different meals which included: pigs in a blanket, biscuits and gravy, two different types of pancakes, and even got a junior plate for the little one. Our server ASHLEY was such a delight. We haven't come across someone so friendly like that in CA in a long time but that is the standard in Bend. Now the important part the food, I tried a little bit of everything. The pancakes, sausage, bacon, all of it was delish! Way better than any local chains I've been to. My mother in law even bought a jar of their SEEDLESS Marionberry jam to take home. Just make sure to get there early because when we left there was a line out the door of people waiting to be seated. A tasty retreat to the past. Blond wooden furniture, walls lined with a colorful collection of plates, and a hearty breakfast that always includes a stack of pancakes await everyone who enters. This dependable chain has been serving breakfast for decades, and can always be counted on for a pleasant, well prepared and served meal. Seasoned servers know the menu, keep an eye on their tables for extra coffee or water (rare these days), and food is prepared and served quickly, even during the morning rush, which is a daily occurrence. I ordered pancakes and eggs, and a side of sausage. My waitress told me I could get a similar meal for a few dollars less by ordering the combo., which I did. (Thanks!) The big platter arrived quickly, considering there were at least 40 full tables that morning. Coffee was refilled twice at least, and I was asked if "everything tasted good" once. Eggs over easy done perfectly, sausage cooked nicely and pancakes not soggy or cold. Plenty of syrup and butter, what more could one ask for. I've been to the twin Pancake House by the Redmond airport, and the experience is the same. Excellent service and food in an old-timely friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended, especially for those too young to remember when this was the standard, not the exception. read more

If my wife was reviewing she would give it a Michelin Star. The service was very good and the food is above average for this type of restaurant. Expect a 20-30 minute wait depending what time you go on the weekend. Directly across from the Hotel we were staying at so convenience was a huge factor. Blueberry pancakes and waffles have the blueberries baked in not just sprinkled on top after finished. That seems to be the case with all their fruit/nut offerings in regard to pancakes. My favorite place for breakfast....bar none! If it was always my choice and money was no object, I'd choose the Original Pancake House everyday of the week and twice on Sundays. I'd also weigh more than Brother Iz (may he rest in peace). However, since it's not always my choice and we haven't won the lottery YET.....guess we'll just have to keep going elsewhere from time to time. First, this location has been in existence since 1998 (?) or there abouts and you cannot see one sign of wear and tear. The place is ALWAYS spotless. You could eat off the floors. Second, everything is always served to you in a dish.....want ketchup? Comes in a little dish with a spoon. A glass of juice? Also brought out in a glass....in a dish. Syrup is warmed and brought out just before the meal. Orange juice is the BEST anywhere. Truly fresh squeezed with lots of pulp and oh so sweet. Cream for your coffee? Real cream folks....heavy cream. Did anyone say diet? NOT here. Remember the Brother Iz comment...it's why we don't eat here every day. The bacon....thick sliced and cooked to perfection. You could come here alone for the bacon. I read in the paper not long ago (under a restaurant review) that they are actually very well known for their bacon even though this is a pancake house. I'm a bacon lover....crispy or chewy...I love it. And this place cooks it in such a way that it is 100% done and yet still chewy. It's like the perfect blend. AND you get four huge slices when you order eggs and bacon. The eggs. I love over medium....which is NOT the same as over easy. Again, always cooked perfectly. The pancakes, served with a dollop of real butter.....and that warm maple syrup.....oh.....so good. Now the bad news: NOT CHEAP. To get a no holds barred...juice, coffee, full breakfast meal....it's going to set you back some. More than other places. But you get what you pay for in quality and portions. The wait can be long on Sunday mornings. Those darn after church crowds....God bless 'em.....can really tie up the seating and parking. Go before 2pm. This is a breakfast only establishment. Here is the straight skinny from an overweight foodie like me: If you don't like the Original Pancake House and walk away dissatisfied or hungry....something is wrong with you. read more

I'm giving OPH a 5 star review because 1) they deserve it and 2) what's up with the 2 star review, fellow Yelper? One of the best things about OPH in Bend is that you can actually go there and get seated within some sort of reasonable time span, unlike the original Portland location, where you can wait two hours to sit down. The apple pancake is the bomb and not to be missed. You'll be sharing it with the whole table but that's okay, because its bigger than your head so you'll have plenty of its cinnamon-y sugar goodness. Just don't be in a hurry because all this yummy takes a little longer than two eggs and bacon. On my most recent trip, our waitress was very attentive, filled our coffee cups frequently, even when we tarried to talk awhile after our tab was settled. While the food is super duper tastycakes, the staff is the standout great part of this Pancake House. Every waitress seems genuinely nice and manages to make friends with all the customers, chit chat with all the old people, AND get all the orders correct and served quickly every time I've gone. Very impressive! I LOVE the French Crepes (had them today), Buckwheat Pancakes, and Sausage Patties... but you pretty much can't go wrong. I've spent over $11 for an omelette at this place on my way through Oregon, and it was easily the worst I've ever had. If you think I'm exaggerating, then bear in mind I've eaten at Denny's before; they don't screw up omelettes--if they can get it right, then literally every other diner in the world can. I took one bite of this dry, flavorless, lump of misery and flagged down my waitress, saying "I'm very sorry, but I don't think I can eat this. It tastes terrible, and has been cooked for way too long." She apologized, I ordered some mediocre pancakes, and she only charged me $2.50. The service was quick, and their compensation impressed me. Great service, terrible food, and laughably extravagant prices. If the breakfast was twice as good and half the price, I'd still call it a rip-off. read more

Why do I keep giving them a chance? Well, no more. The first two times I went the service was good but the portions for the crepes were so small and expensive. It tasted fine, but not worth what they charged. You really could get the same thing at IHOP for a fraction of the cost and a much larger serving. What really has turned me off from this place was my last experience here on Mother's Day. My husband and son took me here. We were told the wait would be 15 minutes. After 25 we checked the status. The manager said it would only be another 5-10 minutes. After over an hour wait ( and being told over and over that it will just be another minute) we told them to remove our name from the list. The manager said "But you're next in line!". Really? You told me it would be a 15 minute wait and it ended up being well over an hour and we still weren't seated. No one cared when we complained and they did nothing to fix it. read more

I went to the location in Anaheim, California for years before moving to Oregon. I've been to the Portland location several times and was very surprised to learn there were 2 more locations in central Oregon! I haven't been to the Redmond location but have visited this one in Bend a few times now. This may be my favorite Original Pancake House location of the 3 I've visited! The quality of food and service is consistently good across all locations but the things that make this location stand out are the spacious parking lot, never had to wait for a table, and the extra space between tables. I know those seem like silly things but if you've ever been to the parking lot at the Anaheim location, you'd understand why (to circle the parking lot a second time, you have to make a left onto a busy street and then an immediate left to get back in the parking lot and try again). My go to orders are the Swedish pancake or Dutch baby. I love the apple pancake too but it's a bit too sweet for me to eat at breakfast (but I highly recommend turning the leftovers into an excellent dessert by warming it up and adding some ice cream). The omelets are HUGE. I also highly recommend the hot chocolate. The whip cream they put on top is divine. 5 stars. read more

I ordered a coffee and didn't receive it until my meal came which was disappointing since the small cup cost $2.50. Also, there was no sugar substitute on the table and it took awhile to get waitresses attention to bring some over. I asked for a side of salsa for my eggs and was told I would be charged so I asked for some ketchup instead (which was free) and was given a small serving to go with my potatoes.
