My wife and I were on the hunt for a new breakfast spot--somewhere we could enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee and a truly great meal. We happened to be in the Hulen area when we remembered The Original Pancake House nearby. It had been on our "we really should try that place" list for a while, so we finally decided to stop in. The restaurant was buzzing--no surprise, it was prime breakfast time--but we were seated right away. Our server, Cierra, greeted us with a bright smile and asked if it was our first visit. When we told her it was, she happily pointed out her favorite dishes on the menu. With so many tempting options, I found myself completely torn on what to order. While we debated, we ordered coffee and juice. When Cierra brought out the coffee, I immediately fell in love with the custom mugs featuring the restaurant's name. My wife rolled her eyes--because of course I'd find another mug I "needed" for my collection. I asked about them, and Cierra confirmed they were for sale and offered to bring a selection to the table. My wife just shook her head in resignation. She ordered the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes--fluffy pancakes swirled with rich cinnamon and topped with a smooth, sweet glaze. They sounded decadent. I went with a classic breakfast: bacon, over-easy eggs, and a stack of three of their famous pancakes. It was tough passing up Eggs Benedict or a Dutch Baby, two of my favorites, but I figured I'd save those for next time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was lively, with servers hustling back and forth, totally focused.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Cierra returned with about six different mugs for us to look at, each a different color. And by the way--the coffee? Fantastic. The mugs are smaller than what you see in many restaurants, maybe around 10 ounces, but the servers keep them filled constantly. They also offer a full lineup of specialty coffees if you're in the mood for something fancy. Our breakfast arrived piping hot, delivered with Cierra's attentive care. Both plates looked picture-perfect. My wife dove into her Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and smiled after the first bite--she was in heaven. My bacon-and-eggs breakfast was spot-on, and the over-easy eggs were cooked exactly right. And the pancakes... honestly, some of the best I've ever had. Throughout the meal, Cierra was friendly, attentive, and just a joy to have as our server. We'll definitely be back soon to explore more of the menu. Food at any original pancake house is good. We usually have no issues. Today what impacted what was suppose to be a great breakfast experience was our waiter. Let me emphasize I work in customer service so respecting service workers is important to me. I got the new bagel sandwich which some entails an everything bagel shaved ham or pork belly, egg and cheese. I asked the waiter to sub the pork belly for bacon, and she said that was fine. What I received was a pork belly, egg and cheese on a plain bagel. I didn't even make a big deal out of it my husband offered to swap his bacon he got with his meal with my pork belly. I asked the waitress if they had everything bagels back there she said she would ask and I also pointed out the fact that they don't put regular bacon. She said you asked for pork belly, I said I did not, and my husband reaffirmed the statement saying I did ask for regular bacon. I watch our waiter go back to the kitchen and yell at the kitchen staff, then went to the register and started talking about I had an attitude with her. When I never had an attitude or raised my voice but that was the moment I asked for her manager. We can all have thoughts at work even if skewed but to say those thoughts out loud in front of the customers diabolical. My brother and I also both got tea, she brought me honey in a little container, when my brother asked for honey she said we could share.... So I share my experience to say. Come here if you want to eat, but if you want to impress family or just have a stress free breakfast results may vary. Hit up another location. If you do go we did ask for a new waitress her name was Courtney, very kind very professional. The manager did comp my meal for this experience and gave us a coupon for next visit. Can't say a lot more than what has already been said about Original Pancake House. I thought our food was superb, the service was excellent, parking wasn't an issue, prices were reasonable. I will say I love their coffee mugs and will probably buy one next time I'm in, always like the heavier solid mugs of hot Joe, and it's very good like everything else here. Our second visit to this restaurant. Our server today seemed frazzled, she was nice, but inattentive until the end. I ordered Hacienda Benedict altered to have an English muffin instead of potatoes. It was nice to be able to change out potatoes for something else. I added tomatoes as my side and they came on a separate plate which would've made sense if the separate plate had been cold to keep the tomatoes fresh but the side plate was just as warm as the meal plate so it seemed like an extra dish to wash. My husband added cheese to his grits what he normally does, but know they are very generous on their cheese here. The strangest thing was the bottle of Cholula they brought to the table it was in the worst container possible, one of those glass vinegar dispensers for salads, It guaranteed only one or two drops of Cholula came out on the first shake and nothing after. Once you arrive at your table the servers make you feel right at home with all smiles and that southern hospitality we all Love. Then, the menu options will have you wanting to order everything just to try it ranging from traditional breakfast or something fancy if you're feeling a bit adventurous. I am a little disappointed in myself. I had the breakfast burrito, but because I did not have high hopes for it, I did not take a picture of it. However, it was probably one of the best breakfast burritos I have ever had. I now have a new favorite When I come here. Our waitresses name was Courtney, and she was very attentive, and most importantly, made sure my coffee was always full. Onto the Apple pancake. It is just as good as we remembered from the apple pancakes we used to eat in New Jersey. As you can see the picture it was big beautiful, and it was quite tasty. Bacon was good but I prefer thin strips. Bone in ham was very good, the beat part of the meal. My eggs were ordered over medium but came over easy. Not good but at least not overcooked. Potatoes were decent even though I prefer hash browns. Service was merely adequate, and once again, prices are way too high. My meal was almost $25 bucks before tip. The original pancake house is always hopping! There is complementary parking, however, it can be tight. Reservations are not accepted so you can expect to be during peak hours. The restaurant is large and open with a bar however due do hiring issues the bar area was closed and was being used as a waiting area. The original pancake House is always lively, and ambient noise can be a little higher than normal, but that's part of the fun. They still have their traditional apple pancakes and Dutch Baby's on the menu which are awesome but can take longer cooking times than normal so be prepared to wait for a taste of goodness.
