Founding Farmers has become our Go To casual restaurant. The menu is extensive & includes a variety of meats, chicken, fish ( my favorite is the glazed planked salmon served with mashed potatoes & string beans) as well as burgers, pasta and salads. Portions are large, so we generally take half home for dinner the next day. The apple pie is close to homemade and their ice creams - churned in house - are outstanding. The waiters are always friendly, especially Carmen who, when asked how the salmon was made returned with the Founding Farmers cookbook opened to the correct page. Service is prompt and prices fair. My family took me to Founding Farmers on Father's Day for brunch. The outdoor seating was wonderful. We had plenty of sun without being directly in the sun. There was a nice breeze. We had sufficient room in our seating area to spread out; it was great. Our server was pleasant and attentive. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles dish. The waffle was cold and the chicken was hot. Good service, solid drinks, and reasonable prices make Founding Farmers a suitable choice for casual American in a lifestyle center off of 270. But like many DC restaurant groups that burst onto the scene with a buzzy flagship before expanding rapidly (Great American Restaurants, Clyde's, Matchbox/Ted's Bulletin, et c.), the menu seems to have gradually drifted toward factory-produced consistency. The fried chicken is a good example. Gone is the crisp, honey-drizzled version, replaced by a chalkier, pan-fried version that's homey and but lacks any special flair. Barbecue dishes are OK, but feel like they've spent too much time under a heat lamp. In area with no shortage of similarly priced restaurants offering more distinctive flavors and creative cooking, it's not a destination worth going out of your way to visit but a good option for Happy Hour or a random weekday night. read more

6/28/26: Founding Farmers MoCo continues to be one of my favorite brunch spots in the DMV. We stopped by on a Sunday morning around 9:30 am, and even though the restaurant was super busy, everything felt well organized and the service was attentive from start to finish even with our party of 12. The food came out quickly and was great, very consistent with other Founding Farmers experiences. One thing I always appreciate about Founding Farmers is their commitment to using quality ingredients. You can taste the difference, and even the simple breakfast dishes feel elevated without being overly complicated. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between rustic and modern, making it a comfortable place whether you're meeting friends for brunch or celebrating a special occasion. Despite how busy it was, our server kept our drinks topped off and checked in regularly without making us feel rushed. Overall, Founding Farmers MoCo delivered another great brunch experience. Between the quality of the food, friendly service, and welcoming atmosphere, it's easy to see why it's such a popular spot. This was our first time at Founding Fathers and it did not disappoint! We have heard lots of good things from family and friends who insisted that we stop here for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner. We decided on lunch and were greeted with lots of smiles and good suggestions from all the employees but I have to give a specific shoutout our waiter Ryan! He was so kind and helpful without being too overbearing, the perfect makings of the best waiter we could've asked for. He answered all of our questions about the menu, gave yummy suggestions, made sure our cups were filled, and our food came out hot. We shared the hot pastrami melt, which was delicious and we got one of the seasonal sides that tasted fresh and bright. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone. Ryan also kept our bellies full with piping hot beignets, complete with the world's best dipping sauces (the hot fudge was my personal favorite). Very clean and nice interior, fun vibe, excellent all around! Easy to find parking just on the road or parking garage too. Brunch options here are reasonably priced and delicious. Not crowded as they have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. But we recommend you make a reservation. This place is very large with both indoor and outdoor seating. There are tables, bar seating, and they are able to accommodate large parties. Be sure to make a reservation though! I did not expect Founding Farmers to be one of my favorite meals during my visit, and it ended up being the most reasonably priced as well. They were packed during Saturday brunch, so a reservation is a must. Everyone was very kind, and our server Erika truly made the experience. She gave great recommendations, especially the brûléed grapefruit, and made sure those who ordered the steak and eggs were comfortable with medallions. She also encouraged us to try the beignets, which ended up being a hit at the table. The food came out quickly, though I did wish my coffee had arrived first. *Mocha: came in the cutest cupware. The whipped cream on top was thick and cold, cooling down each sip right away. The espresso was already sweetened, giving it a rich, chocolatey mouthfeel. This was definitely up my alley as I prefer a sweeter morning drink. *Crab Cake Benedict: came with a single side, which I chose as the brûléed grapefruit. The eggs were perfectly poached, and the crab cake was tender and moist. The English muffin was nicely toasted, and while the hollandaise was tasty, I wished there was a bit more of it. *Bruleed Grapefruit: so tasty and unique that it deserved its own highlight. The grapefruit had a natural balance of tartness and sweetness, enhanced by a thin layer of torched sugar on top. My whole party loved this, and it is a must order alongside something savory. *Beignets: a very shareable portion. They were rustic in shape with fluffy interiors. The dish came with raspberry, chocolate, and caramel sauces. The raspberry was my favorite because its sharpness balanced the powdered sugar well. Although recommended for two to three people, it could easily feed four or more since the pieces were quite large. *Steak and Eggs: a five dollar upcharge, but the quality justified it. The steak was the most tender and juicy I have had at a breakfast spot. They included two medallions, just as Erika mentioned, cooked perfectly rare and medium rare. The hash browns had a great crust without any mushiness inside. The entrée also came with bread, and the apple walnut raisin loaf had a nice earthiness. The in house butter was creamy and mild, adding a needed richness. *Classic Brioche French Toast: available as an add on for three dollars. The piece stayed crisp on the outside while remaining soft inside throughout the meal. It had good browning and sweetness on its own, so I did not need syrup. It was a bit heavy though, so I would not want a full portion. *Beef Pastrami: the chunks of pastrami were rich, fatty, and full of flavor. Similar to the benedict, I wished there was more of the creole mustard hollandaise, as the hash leaned dry and crispy. The bell peppers and onions added a nice sweetness. I also think this would have benefited from a proper side instead of bread, especially something lighter or more refreshing. My party left extremely satisfied and very full. Service was excellent throughout. The portions were generous, and I appreciated the in house sourcing. It is rare to see brunch prices under twenty dollars, and we were impressed by both the value and the execution. read more

One of the best burgers I've ever had. I'm picky and only eat high quality local beef. This blue cheese bacon burger was big enough to split with my hubby and they allow you to sub out healthy side salads (three choices) for fries if you want -- so we got the broccoli chopped slaw -- also delicious. There was some construction happening outside, which made conversation a bit difficult at times, but that's no fault of the restaurant. I ordered the fish of the day with a lemon butter preparation--and wow, it was delicious. The sauce paired perfectly with the vegetables, and everything came together really well. The portion size was also very satisfying and left me completely full. I also tried a non-alcoholic drink called the Golden Lotus, which was just as enjoyable and refreshing. OMG - YET AGAIN, something goes awry at this restaurant. This time it wasn't the meal or the service - both were good. But we bought some boxes of chocolate (not inexpensive; minimum is $12 a box) and what do you know? They're expired! FF makes their chocolate themselves and it should be really fresh. It's always delicious. But ours have been expired for almost a week and they're still selling it at full price. After setting up a reservation (1:30), we arrived to a packed restaurant & had about a 5 min wait until a table opened up. Once seated, we were greeted promptly with drinks put in. We started off with Beignets which were fan-freakin'tastic - light and fluffy with 3 dipping sauces to the side. For entrées we ordered the Southwest Scramble & Ham and Cheese Scramble (w/ mushrooms added). Food arrived in a reasonable amount to time - another home run as both entrées we great! Finally made it into a Founding Farmers restaurant. This location was fairly easy to get to in County. Good parking and shopping options available around the restaurant. Restaurant is very nice. Hostess greet you upon walking in. Very nice bar and dining area. There is also a dining area, enclosed, outside. It has heaters but the area I sat in leaked above my head while it was raining and there were flying wasp around the table. Servers were great. Food was slow coming out and dishes were routed to the wrong table a fee times. The food was pretty good. I had spinach dip and Farmers platter. The dip was fine, but needed some salt. The platter was very filling. Briskett, ribs, and fried chicken on the same plate with sides made a nice meal. I would definitely want to try different items next time. Ruben was really nice! The highlight was definitely the brûléed grapefruit! They gave us a serrated spoon to use and I feel like everything was well thought out. Read about the history of the restaurant online and our waiter also answered our questions about the numbers on their silverware. Such a huge place to bring your friends and family, but still intimate. There's outdoor seating under a patio (that can be heated) and indoor seating. Food was great! Stopped in for a late brunch while in the area shopping - they were on a short wait but I found a seat at the bar. The service was excellent - there were several bartenders working so they were able to attend to guests at the bar and making drinks that came in from tickets. The food was pretty good - my waffle came out cold, but was easily remedied, and I ordered the beef pastrami hash but I think there was a misunderstanding and I received beet and goat cheese hash - which was still good - and in their defense, I did not speak up because I was starving (not their fault - the food came out quick!). I visited in Mother's Day which is prime time for any restaurant so I'll give them a little grace. When we arrived we checked in at the desk and then waited about 15 mins. after our reservation time. I went to check again and a nice lady said I wasn't checked in the computer. We were the directed to a nice booth for two. Our waiter was a young guy who used the term "friend" a lot and seemed like a friendly cool person. I asked what the popular non-alcoholic drink was and orders the apple ginger fizz and blackened catfish with grits. Our app was the deviled eggs which I only tasted eggs and chives. Needs a kick of hot sauce and some salt. I also ordered the farmers salad which Id never had before but was pleasantly surprised with (took half of it home). The size of the catfish seemed a little small but it does shrink from the frying and the grits were just done enough. I didn't really care for the ginger drink since the ginger taste was too much. My mom had the crab cakes with fries and coleslaw and no other beverage besides water. Plenty of crab in her cakes and she said they were good but I didn't sample. Our entree orders didn't take too long considering the full capacity on a holiday and I was happy for that. read more

Founding farmers is a nice place to take a friend or a colleague, but it has quite a few drawbacks. The price is quite high, perhaps those prices have gone up. It feels like, but they are really high in such that I don't want an appetizer, I don't wanna get a drink, and I don't wanna get dessert, because it's way too expensive. Especially on top of a $29 salad or something. The other thing that was weird, was that the salads are minimal, you have a Caesar salad, or the corn corn dinner salad, those are the only ones with lettuce, or some kind of leafy green. The rest of it, artichoke hearts, things you don't normally see in what you think of as a salad. They still bring the little terminal to your table, where it's awkward you have to push the tip button. I wish they would just leave it on the table and just let me do it. Tip Pressure is not fun. The only salad I could find that had actual lettuce, was the Caesar salad, which I got with chicken. It was a great salad. Quite good. But this is a very rare place that I would go to, for all the reasons mentioned. read more

I went to Founding Farmers in DC many, many years ago and loved it! I'm a sucker for Southern or Southern-inspired cuisine of any sort. (who knows why, I grew up in Florida but in a part of the state with virtually zero legit Southern cuisine) I'm so glad they now have a Potomac location! I'm often stuck in a training compound/hotel in Potomac and food & drink options are pretty anemic in the surrounding area. The outside aesthetics are pretty rough... This location is in a generic, metal & glass stripmall. The interior though, is completely different cozy with lots of warm wood. The service was the real highlight! The server gave us great advice about the menu. As someone suffering from toxic independence, that's not usually something I'm into buuuuut...he really had some good insights. Decent beer selection and some fun-looking cocktails as well! I got a chicken sandwich and it was good, but I wish is was about 4X spicier and more like a Nashville hot sandwich. To start, I used to hate Founding Farmer's. It was a one-sided beef that stemmed from feeling gaslit by everyone raving about a restaurant that I found to be mid at best. I tried today after many years (if the Washington Post can change their mind, so can I!) Some dishes were excellent but most were just good. A friend and I shared the following: biscuits, beignets, crab Benedict, and chicken and waffles, with sides of bacon and hash browns. The biscuits and beignets were both delicious, but all of the entrees were merely fine. The fried chicken was especially disappointing (not very flavorful and barely fried) . The bacon was also not as crispy or tasty as I expected. I did love my decaf latte and the gorgeous ceramics. The service was excellent. Not the redemption arc I hoped for read more

Clearly a popular place, it was packed at 11a on this particular Saturday. Coming in with a group of 18, I was excited about being able to make the reservation online only 2 weeks prior. Upon arrival, they were ready for us! 2 tables of 9 right next to each other. As everyone was trickling in, the service staff were very efficient and they got those orders in quickly. The Kitchen team was Clearly just as efficient as we got our orders timely and accurately. I ordered a traditional breakfast setup with scrambled eggs add cheese, bacon crispy, potatoes and english muffin. The bacon wasn't as crispy as I would have liked and the english muffin was a bit overcooked but overall the food was enjoyable. Most in our party were very happy with their meals. Although I ordered for pickup I really did appreciate the quick service and the hospitality from the hostess. I created my own substitution for the "poached egg hash w/ beef pastrami" order and put cheesy eggs instead of poached eggs with a buttermilk biscuit, and comes with creole mustard hollandaise on the side.
