Welcome and their hours - May 2026
    Gail R.

I go to Café Sophie for the food, the views, and the service. Occasionally, you will see Sophie the dog wandering about - an extra bonus as she is so friendly. The morning was perfect for a visit to their patio. Lots of small planes taking off and landing in the near distance. After receiving our menus, it was time to order. I got their Norwegian pancakes called "Pannekaker" wrapped with strawberry preserves on the inside with sprinkles of sweet blueberries. That was the option I selected as there are two other choices: cinnamon and sugar or lingonberries. I have tried the one with lingonberries - just as good. I also added an egg (scrambled) and sausage which is extra, but it was a meal I was looking forward to. I also got their Apple Cider mimosa - loved it. The other mimosa selections were the lingonberry and elderflower flavors, which are great as well. For the featured pastries, they showed us 3 choices for that week: Coffee Cake, Lingonberry Almond Cookie, and Chocolate Cheesecake. Paola's fresh pastries and they all looked tempting, but I settled on the Coffee Cake. The top had a slightly sweet crunch to it, while the rest of the cake was soft. I loved it. Service was great.

This place is incredible! They could rest on the cool location alone but they also have a unique menu and delicious food? They didn't need to do it all! First, the location- this cafe is in the Rockville air park. The restaurant has massive windows on every wall and a large outdoor patio. You could sit and watch the planes come and go for hours! Second, the menu- the owners have included some European and Norwegian foods! If you're looking for a classic full English breakfast, authentic Norwegian pancakes, or specific snacks and desserts, this is the place to go! Finally, the food- delicious! Beautiful! Incredible! We had three different dishes and they were each amazing. Add in excellent service and it was a perfect meal. This restaurant is also very family friendly, so you can bring your kids to watch the planes while you enjoy a delicious meal. Definitely recommend!

Why have we not been here before? I can't wait to go back! It does get busy but we were seated quickly and chose to be outside. We loved watching the planes take off and land. If you looking for quiet this is not the place. It's not a bad noise and it's fun. We had a great view and were very comfortable. The staff are all professional and nice and the food was excellent. Good size portions. They also bake fresh new goodies on site that they sell. We tried their chocolate and peanut butter cookie which was yummy. We left very full, extremely satisfied and eager to return.

I wouldn't say this this is Montgomery County's best kept secret because tons of us know about this place, but there are still a lot of people who have no idea that Cafe Sophie is this amazing Scandinavian gem nestled in an tiny airpark. If you have a hankering for some delish breakfast/brunch/lunch vittles than look no further than Sophie's. I had the most amazing french toast here last week. Seriously, I think it may have been the best I've had in my life and I'm an old man. It was a daily special so I'm not sure I'll ever be able to have it again but alas...at least I can say I had it once. The staff here are also amazing. Kind and helpful...what more could you ask for. I really love this place and wish that I didn't love 45 minutes away but in the end, it's always worth it. Try them out...especially for breakfast. You won't be disappointed.

When we first drove up we weren't sure if we were in the right place! It is indeed inside a small airport!! It was a really cool spot. The staff were nice. I can't remember our servers name but he was quirky(we loved his hat!) helpful, and he knew the menu well and was able to answer our questions. The owner stopped by our table with the cafes namesake. Sophie the goldendoodle. He was always aware of where she was to make sure she doesn't disturb anyone. Our table loved her and our chat with the owner. They were also able to accommodate some of our parties dietary restrictions with no fuss The food was really good. I had the Crogel sandwich. It was lovely!! Friends had eggs Benedict and enjoyed it. Poached eggs were more hard boiled but they enjoyed it anyway. I very much enjoyed the cafe and the outdoor seating I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

We had an excellent Saturday morning breakfast out on the patio - in addition to the amazing food, there is also lots to see as small planes are constantly coming in and taking off. Despite that, we were still able to converse just fine in normal voices. We were able to enjoy some of the fresh, delicious pastries as well - but don't wait to order! After we finished our breakfast, some of the selections had already sold out. The Pannekaker (think crepes) were delicious - definitely recommend ordering them with fruit. I really enjoyed the Smorbrod open faced roast beef - very hearty and filling, fresh and delicious. I also like that all the coffee and tea here is served in a wide variety of colorful ceramic mugs - the only way to enjoy a hot drink! This is a great spot for families with kids, or for anyone looking for great food and a unique atmosphere!

Still yummy, still warm and hospitable service, and still cozy ambiance. Nom nom nom!

A search for a breakfast spot led a friend and I to Cafe Sophie. We arrived just as they opened on Mother's Day morning and were quickly seated out on the patio. We were able to watch as planes took off and landed as we caught up and enjoyed our breakfast of pannekakers and iced teas. A great spot for watching the planes and enjoying the beauty of this spring morning!

Good food, great service, fun view I got the English breakfast and a cup of tea. The English breakfast was great, but needed a little salt. It made for the perfect English experience.

I wanted to try the crogal to compare it to some of the others I've had. Overall the sandwich was nice but a bit overpriced for that you got. It also didn't have some of the herbs in other crogals I've had. My husband had the pancake and said it was good but very dense. The staff was friendly and service was quick. The decor was a little lacking and the building itself smells very old, but that can't be helped considering the location. Overall I'm happy I went

This has potential and I can see the appeal. It's a cool concept to have a cafe at the small Airpark, where you can eat brunch and watch the airplanes. This experience lost one star for service. We waited several minutes awkwardly at the narrow entrance waiting to be greeted and sat. We ordered water to drink. I was first and asked for water with lemon. She specifically asked if I wanted ice and I said yes. We got four glasses of water, all with no ice. My husband ordered a coffee, which never came. I asked for her opinion on two sandwiches and she said she hadn't tried them. I selected the baguette sandwich. The menu was confusing, because I didn't realize it's prosciutto and jarlsberg or turkey and Brie with lingonberries. Why not just have two separate sandwich listings. Onto the food. I opted for the prosciutto sandwich. It desperately needed some moisture. I added some of my husband's dressed side salad and that improved it greatly. I think it needs a side item too. Half of the sandwich with some sauce plus a cup of fresh fruit would be great. My daughter got a cheeseburger. They were out of cheddar, so we asked what other cheese options and the waitress struggled a little. She opted for provolone. Her burger was tasty but so buttery that she needed extra napkins. My mom selected steak and eggs and my husband got a chicken parm sandwich. Maybe we didn't read it correctly, because it wasn't quite what he expected. It tasted okay. I might go back and sit on the sunny patio and get coffee and simple breakfast.

But I don't care because this little sandwich shop deserves all the praise I can heap on it. I had a tuna salad sandwich that was perfection! Heaping with luscious tuna, crispy lettuce and a sharp slice of cheddar. Heavenly! But, as good as that tuna sandwich was - as always - it is the professional, perfectionist, friendly and hard working people who run this place that actually keep me coming back. They are good at what they do, nothing more, nothing less. And they do it all with a smile! I will be back, of course, to the Firehouse Deli because it's at the top of its game. The service was good both in person and over the phone. The lady taking my order was helpful and made sure I was all good when picking up the food. - The steak & cheese was alright and was even better with some BBQ sauce. I think the sub could've greatly benefitted from having a house sauce paired with it to make up for the meat's lack of flavorful juices that you would come to expect from a typical Philly. - The seasoned fries were solid, they get the job done. - The fajita melt was solid and the chipotle sauce on it highly elevated the experience. I'm going to need more of that Chipotle sauce, please. - Now I'm more of a hot sub guy over a cold sub guy so I'm testing the waters with the Italian sub. Luckily, the Italian sub is a solid option. It's made very well and the bread is fluffy. Overall, I'd best describe this spot as simple, basic food that's executed very well. If you're in the area, I'd definitely recommend a stop for a quick lunch or quick snack.

I've only done takeout from the Nibbler, but it is just a small place in a strip mall next to the Dunkin Donuts and Papa John's. My husband and I still prefer the Nibbler over other fancier Peruvian places simply because their food tastes like home cooking, not food that just came out of the kitchen of a restaurant and you can't beat that. The bite of steak I had was delicious and the fries were salty enough for my husband. The ropa vieja was delicious, but again, could use more seasoning. The meat was tender but crispy on the outside and paired with black beans, rice, and plantains, it was a tasty combination both flavor-wise and texture-wise.
