The chocolate chip pancakes didn't need syrup at all. Portions were good. 5/5 Only thing that didn't go quite as well was the wait time. Waited a long time for the food to come out. Understandable. It was a busy Sunday. When the food came out we were a few minutes into our meal and we ordered another side of eggs. Never came, even after we finished our plates. Ultimately asked to cancel the order, which they thankfully allowed. This place used to be fantastic. My coworkers and I used to finish up the night shift and head over for breakfast. It was good for years! Over the past year or two though, the prices started to get a bit whacky so we started going less. I went today and it was awful. The food itself was okay, but there was only one poor waitstaff member for the entire restaurant. They had other people bringing out the food and drinks but the poor waitstaff member had their hands full. It took 25 minutes before our order was finally taken. I used to love the chocolate milk but now they charge the same price as before but give you a kiddie sized cup and you don't get free refills. We spoke to a staff member after we realized we didn't recognize anybody there. We were told the place had been bought out by a new management company and they cleaned house and got rid of the entire old staff, which is wild. They were all so wonderful before! The waitstaff member today was nice too, don't get me wrong, but it was crazy that all the familiar faces were gone. We were told all the kitchen workers were replaced too. Anyway, between my coworker and I, we got a cup of coffee, two eggs, 6 tiny pancakes, 3 strips of bacon, and a tiny sized chocolate milk for $39 (before adding tax and tip). Do with that what you will, but I think that's brutal. The prices have gone up too much considering they made the pancakes smaller and drinks smaller. It's just not worth it anymore. read more

The original pancake house is your classic breakfast place with pancakes, eggs, breakfast meats, and combos, which you can't really go wrong with. The service, however, wasn't great. I was a little put off right from the start. We walked in and the two employees standing at the host stand gave us what I can only describe as the Gen Z stare. They literally just looked at us and didn't say anything. No hi, welcome, how many-nothing. Then, our server took our drink order and didn't come back for a long time. The lady who brought our drinks avoided eye contact to the point that it was awkward. When we did finally order, our food came out quickly. I got the meat and eggs, and chose chicken apple sausage (not a common option and nice to see), and upgraded to pumpkin pancakes as opposed to plain buttermilk. The pancakes and sausage were great, and the sausage serving was huge. I did have to send my eggs back to get them cooked a little more, but they were good as well. My family loves the food at this location. It's unfortunate how good the food is because the service is very hit or miss. Today we went for a nice 9:30am breakfast. Half tables were full, half empty. Took about an hour to get our food. When we got our food, 2 out of 3 people got their food. We spoke to 3 different workers to let them know that we were missing food for the third person but we still had no food at 11am. After walking to the kitchen and speaking to another person, finally they took us seriously and the food came out in 5 minutes. We left at 11:30am , our orders were pretty standard small morning plates. The food was great but my friend waited 2 hours for bacon and eggs... We saw our waitress twice during this whole time and after waiting an hour and a half for our food and making her aware of the situation, Maria H laughed and walked away. I give grace when restaurants are slammed but this seemed like a service issue. People that came after our table got food before us. Let's start with the positive. Food was absolutely amazing and portion sizes are huge. You definitely won't leave hungry. The freshly squeezed juices and hot chocolate were on point, and I really appreciate the free refills. Very convenient location and clear atmosphere. The service wasn't as great as the food. We had to physically get up and go to the back of the house to get anything: napkins, water, condiments. The staff were just standing around in the back most of the time, which I don't understand considering it was a full house. When the server did come to our table, she was very friendly though, so I'll give her that. But wish they were more on top of checking up on us more often. This place was quiet when they opened on a Saturday and then bam, it was packed. Come early if you want to secure on-site parking or there is street parking as well. I've been to a couple of other TOPH. but this one had its own summer special menu filled with fresh fruit options. A bowl of blackberries, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries with sweet, whipped cream made for a nice (and mostly health) appetizer. The whipped cream was also a delightful topping to the pumpkin pancakes. The small set of 3 was enough for me. The apple pancake takes some time, but it is worth it for that gooey melted sugar soft baked apple taste. The food was all great, the service was responsible, the coffee was always full in their pretty ceramic mugs, and a good time was had by all. Food was decent, but overpriced. Service was awful. There was no host or hostess. After standing in the front for a few minutes, a busboy told us to sit wherever we wanted. The waiter eventually came over to our table with menus. We didn't order anything complicated, standard breakfast fare -- pancakes and eggs. It took over a half hour to get our food. The waiter brought out our food without utensils. After asking for utensils, he dumped a pile of forks, knives, and napkins on the table. We've been here a couple of times before. There is usually about a 15-20 minute wait. The staff and kitchen move quickly and we are always treated well. Everyone enjoyed their food, the blueberry waffles were very good. The coconut pancakes were not that great and seem to be more a novelty than anything substantially coconut flavored. Even the "tropical syrup" that it comes with was not too great; a Suzette sauce might be a better compliment to the coconut pancakes. The tables are well spaced out and the restaurant is clean. This place is pretty bad. Freezing cold inside on a chilly day, simple orders took a long time, with one person in our group of 4 not even receiving their order of pancakes. They were brought out as we were ready to leave and the other 3 people were done eating. Insane. Also never saw the potatoes we ordered. Server said they had no hot chocolate. Food was mediocre at best, extremely overpriced, and the coffee is terrible. No apologies from anyone for food not being served. The server who took our orders never returned to our table. Service Great, clean and cheerful, good food. My Garden Benedict, which included two eggs on English muffins with wet, ended up being sort of a cool sauce, but with spinach and tomato was delicious. Even though it was cool, the pancakes they gave me were spectacular, warm and delicious. The whole thing was perfect really, I would eat it exactly that way again the eggs were perfectly cooked. The waitress was cheerful, well cheerful enough it was getting very crowded. It was Saturday morning. Parking is tricky although we did not have trouble yesterday. Glacially slow is an insult to glaciers. No host when we entered (two adults and two children) eventually told to sit wherever. (Around 9:15am) After receiving our menus, which is loaded with overpriced breakfast items, we waited several minutes before even being acknowledged by the waiter. We then asked if their was a kids menu, he brought 1 menu for the two children. We ordered some water, coffee and seltzer while waiting for the kids to decide. The drinks arrived what seemed like 5 min later, the waiter did not return for another 5. We ordered the kid's plate (chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs - about $10.79 with the $1 chocolate chip upgrade) and kid's cakes silver dollar bacon pancakes (about - $8.99 with $1 bacon crumble upcharge), a side of bacon (4 slices for $8) biscuits and gravy with over easy eggs ($19) and a veggie breakfast bowl ($17). The food finally arrived around 9:50, almost 35 min after we were seated. It was at this point we realized the waiter never brought us utensils, which then took a minute or two to flag down the waiter. He just handed us a pile of forks, knives and napkins. As for the food, the kid's pancakes were quite tasty and fluffy, with a nice homestyle flavor and real maple syrup. The bacon was large and crispy. (The kids were happy and that was good) The biscuits and gravy were disappointing, the biscuits were a little hard (I wouldn't say stale but not flaky), the gravy looked congealed and lacked the peppery spice you expect with sausage gravy. The over easy eggs were undercooked with the whites still very runny. I like a runny yolk, but these were barely flipped at all. We asked 3 times for a coffee and water refill before finally receiving one. All in all it took over 1 hour 20 minutes for a simple breakfast. The restaurant seems understaffed. Perhaps with a server or two more it could be better. Stick to the pancakes. read more

This has been one of my go to brunch spots when meeting up with friends. It is the perfect middle ground and has ample street and off street parking, just make sure you stay on top of the meter the parking enforcement loves to give tickets. The inside is very typical breakfast appearance with booths and tables. The coffee is always freshly made and never burnt, service is fantastic even when they are insanely busy, and the food is fantastic. I ordered the Apple cinnamon waffles, which has freshly cookies apples inside, eggs, bacon, and a side of home fries. The home fries are good but make sure you ask for them burnt so they are extremely crispy. The whipped butter Here is almost as good as the fresh maple syrup and homemade batter. I have been a customer since the opening . Today we drove from the NYC and it was a waste of time and gas. We ordered cornbeef hash and eggs overeasy . We were disappointed in the presentation of the food which was unappealing. The eggs werent cooked overeasy, the yolk of the egg was running all over our cornbeef hash,the pancakes were tasteless and luke warm and the cornbeef hash looked as it was opened from a can which it didnot look appetizing . I was in the area and wanted to pick up some brunch for my kiddo. I found TOPH on Yelp and checked the reviews. It seemed to be exactly what I was looking for so I went on their website and ordered a dish for takeaway. I found parking right in front (metered) and walked in to pick up my order. I'd never been here before so I stood at the front podium but didn't realize there was a counter to the right. So, if you're looking for a table, wait at the podium right in front of the entrance. If you're picking up an order or ordering take out, walk around to the right and wait at the counter. They were pretty busy on a Friday morning and there was no one at the front. An employee came around to check out the people waiting up front and all three of us that were waiting, were picking up orders. After a few minutes, another employee came to the front with three orders. She gave two of the other people THEIR orders and then cashed out a customer that approached after me. I was a little annoyed because all I needed to do was get my order but now I had to wait. Courtesy is definitely not a factor. Maybe dining in is better. I ordered their pigs in a blanket, which are brekkie sausages that are wrapped in pancakes. There are three to an order and they come with choice of one egg. I got scrambled for my kiddo. They are considerate when packing orders. The container for the piggies have compartments and they added little containers of whipped butter and syrup. The eggs were packed separately and they have nice separate packaging for additional condiments and utensils. If in the area again, I would consider dining in to check them out. Yes there was Free Parking!!! While we don't frequent the area often, the title of Original pancake house was alluring for breakfast so we gave it a shot. As for pancakes, they were excellent. Fresh fruit on the strawberry pancakes and the strawberry syrup was a great addition. The chocolate chip pancakes were devoured by my pickiest eater. I ordered the country fried steak with home fries and two eggs over easy. The eggs and fries were great, the steak however tasted a bit off. I told the waitress and they refunded me on the full plate which I appreciated. Service was great and ambiance was true to the diner style with plenty of seating and good lighting. This was a stumble upon a month ago so when the DH & I were out running early a.m errands and starving, I knew wherever we ate I just wanted to bite into a piece of thick, salty bacon, and although IHOP was closer, we made the trek to White Plains to do just that. [see IHOP review]. PARKING: There is ample metered street parking, depending on the time of day. Both times we visited we found parking with no problem.Also the meter is $1.25 for 1 HR if you use coins or $1 if you use the app. According to any signage you only get 1 hour and i dont know if you can extend that time like you can in the city. The hour seems to be firm, so just be aware of that. Maybe pay with coins first and then use the app afterwards if you need more time. I, personally would not risk an expired meter in this area as it is downtown and may be heavily policed by the traffic brigade. HOURS OF OPERATION The House of Pancakes is open from 7AM to 3PM. PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS!! I REPEAT, THEY CLOSE AT 3PM! ENTRANCE / ADA Wide double door entrance, marked by a red awning and its red exterior wall. Doors are wide enough for walkers, wheelchairs or motorized scooters. STAFF & INTERIOR Staff is friendly and efficient. If no one is at the desk when you enter just give them a sec because this place is hopping, not overly crowded but you can tell its quite popular. The interior is spacious and quite nice, with large windows and ample lighting. It has a diner/ fine dining feel to it. FOOD The food is good. Last visit I had the oatmeal. It was the good stuff, actual steel cut oatmeal, served with brown sugar and whipping cream. I had some cranberries with me so I added that for a hint of bourgeoisie (LOL) I also order a side of bacon. i wasnt expecting much because bacon is usually a disappointment unless you cook it yourself, but OMG!!! THE BACON IT WAS THE BACON THAT BROUGHT ME HERE! We were hungry and drove past the "international" pancake place [see that review], driviing an additional 21 minutes because I wanted that bacon. I had never been here so I decided to check it out for an early lunch. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes and my friend ordered the buckwheats. Pancakes were good, but not great like We expected. I did not like the aged sourdough buttermilk batter. Not in a pancake at least. I love sourdough bread flavor, but it just didn't translate into pancake batter. Every menu item is a slight variation of the same thing because with each order you essentially get pancakes and eggs--the egg section comes with pancakes; the pancake section comes with eggs, it's just emphasis on a different part of the plate haha. I noticed that the hostess kept placing the silverware set and placemat / menu on the table for single patrons, myself included, facing the back wall and kitchen ...why? Yes the patron ca opt to sit on the poster side facing the front and windows as I did but it's the principle. They are being lazy and short sighted. My vegetable egg Benedict was cold. LOL!! The parking lot in the back does get crowded so either go way before everybody else or wait till an hour before it's about to close. they have a lot of seating inside so you definitely can do a family breakfast but they also have smaller booths to just do something intimate service is always amazing. Finally, we stopped a busser and asked if they knew who our server was. Within a few minutes, our server was there and, after that, everything was great. Just a small hiccup in the beginning. We ordered typical breakfast dishes: omelettes, pancakes, juice, coffee. Everything tasted great and the coffee kept coming. Nothing out of this world, but nothing tasted bad. The restaurant itself was bustling with people, but appeared clean and organized. The prices are a bit high for a diner-like restaurant, but they are comparable to other diners in the area (White Plains Coach Diner, for example). I first went to a branch, I guess, of the Original Pancake House on my honeymoon in the L.A. area, so I was pleased to find out there's one in White Plains - an hour's driving distance away. They're open until 3:00 pm, so they have lunch-ish menu items. Pancakes are the star, though, and they have an extensive variety - Dutch baby, buttermilk, crepes, etc. I'm a fan of the sourdough, which I've never found elsewhere. Many varieties come with eggs (prepared how you want) or a la carte. I had mine scrambled; they were average, but you're not there for the eggs - you're there to carbo-load.
