I had no idea this was in here! We were at dinner nearby and I had a craving for rainbow cone. I didn't quite want to walk to Navy Pier, but checked the map and saw there was one closer! This is basically just a little tiny location inside of the pizza place. When you get to the entrance make sure to tell the hostess your only needing to go to rainbow cone, as there is usually a line for the pizza place. Service is pretty quick. There isn't really anywhere to sit here, so you just have to eat it out on the street. They also have cakes or what looked like to go containers of the original rainbow selections. I stopped by this place on a Saturday night after landing in Chicago after seeing pictures of their cones online. There was a long line outside but that was for the pizza place, to buy the ice cream you can go through the revolving doors and to the right to order. The original rainbow cone consists of Chocolate, Strawberry, Palmer House, Pistachio, Orange Sherbet layered together on a cone. After comparing my ice cream with the rest of the photos posted here, I am a little disappointed in how mine turned out. The layers were thin and felt like a sample for the price point. What can you say about the rainbow cone? Super fun and yummy. On an unseasonably warm March day, they were busy, but the line moved fast and wasn't a deterrent to waiting. We tried a highly rated gelato location first, but the line was out of control. I was glad because it ultimately led us to the rainbow cone. Until we traveled to Chicago I'd never heard of The Original Rainbow Cone. Visiting here and seeing it on Yelp, my wife and I had to try it. I admit I didn't get the cone, but got the rainbow flavors in a cup and it was delicious! Orange sherbet on top of pistachio, strawberry, chocolate, and Palmer House (vanilla with cherries and walnuts), were just flavors that blended really well together! First time trying a rainbow cone and it was unique to say the least. I loved the layering of the different flavors, that while distinct somehow managed to mesh together in a novel harmony. The cone can get very messy very quickly if you're eating it outside on a warm day, which is probably the only option since there's no indoor seating. They have a little contraption designed to catch the melted ice cream but it ended up overflowing for me and didn't work that well. I think that for one person, a junior size cone would be plenty. There's no seating inside, it's more of a grab and go spot! Service was incredibly fast and there was no line. The decor is so pink and eye catching! I got the original rainbow cup. This came with five unique flavors including chocolate, pistachio, strawberry (with actual strawberry chunks in there!), Palmer house, and citrus lime? I like the variety, and would love to try the mint and choco one next time. Obviously would've been more aesthetic in a cone to see the actual 5 layers... whoops! read more

This ice cream definitely looked cool and I actually really like the texture of the ice cream, but unfortunately I didn't really care too much about the flavors of the rainbow cone. The best flavor was the orange sherbet and it was on top so once I finished eating that, it was just alright from that point on. Then it was pistachio, which i don't like the artificial-ness, palmer house - did not like the cherries, and I don't normally care for strawberry or chocolate ice cream. Maybe I should have selected different flavors given that it's not an ice cream stack I normally pick, but I could have been surprised. I'm so grateful they finally put a location closer to the downtown touristy area! This is my absolute favorite ice cream, and I live in California. Whenever I visit, this is one of my must-haves, but it was so hard to get as their original location is further south of Chicago. It's basically a small food court like space and they have their own set up inside. I got their ice cream in 40 degree weather and I had no regrets. Thank you for making it easier for us out-of-towners to enjoy this delicious treat. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect since I thought the flavors would be super artificial but I'm impressed by how everything tasted so good together (without the artificialness!). I got the rainbow cone with layers of chocolate, strawberry, palmer house, pistachio and orange sherbet. No matter what combination or order I ate the ice cream, it was delicious. On a cold windy night, we made the walk all the way up to Rainbow Cone after checking the hours and calling. We had an over an hour before close. We made it there with an hour left and walked in with a family & kids in front of us. The teenage girl behind the counter refused eye contact and oddly ignored us. We all just kept waiting patiently thinking she was busy. Then she disappeared to the back. For a long time. When she finally came back she told us they were closed. We were all confused because the hours listed even on the door were not closed yet. She gave us no reason why but started closing down the shop and made us leave. First dessert, then ice cream. I learned about The Original Rainbow Cone two weeks ago but I didn't realize it was available at Navy Pier and the stand at the White Sox game had run out of cones and I knew I wanted the real experience, not just in a bowl. So this week I trekked around the city and found the nearest location on my walk. I enjoyed the flavor combos-including those I'd never tried like pistachio and Palmer House. I made it through the strawberry although it is still my least favorite flavor. Overall it was a great treat. Definitely worth trying! Staff were nice and quick. Waited a max of five minutes in line and less than that to get my ice cream. read more

Hands down the most interesting icecream I have ever tried. Original rainbow cone has been a Chicago staple for a long time and it never disappoints. All the flavors on the cone are so creamy and delicious. The orange sherbet and the pistachio flavors are my favorite. The Palmer House is such an interesting flavor. It's fun to try all of these flavors together, and strangely they work together well too. One interesting thing to note is that the icecream is cut and then stacked on to the cone, they don't scoop! The service has always been great! The staff is friendly and are patient when you keep trying all the flavors before ordering. A must visit! read more

Wow, what a delicious way to end a wonderful trip to Chicago with the Original Rainbow Cone! I am so glad we did not miss out of this culinary experience before departing because each layer of flavor was yummy. They include slices of orange sherbet, Palmer house, chocolate, and strawberry. Palmer house was my favorite as I liked the variety of mix-ins. The staff here is very friendly and service is great. I do wish there was some seating available specifically for the store. Ok my favorite ice cream spot here. The NY Vanilla ice cream is so good, it's like a French vanilla style. This is the only vanilla ice cream I eat! They give you cones if you get a big tub too. Cookie sandwiches are super sweet but the ice cream is perfect on its own. The service is a little slow but it is because there are a lot of people in line with orders and the ice cream is hard to scoop. The location is inside Gino's and there are no chairs or waiting areas. So this location makes it tough to enjoy the ice cream. read more

I had the delicious OG cone, it was a solid exploration, with a unique Palmer hotel flavor. I knew I wasn't going to like them all, but I actually enjoyed more flavorings than I thought. All of them were solid, with a much better pistachio and strawberry than I thought there would be. I highly highly recommend to pick up a cone if you see one. The lady at the front was super nice and gave me some recommendations, and we ended up getting the Chocolate Glazed Brioche. And wow... this donut was huge. Super soft on the inside, almost pillowy, and covered in a thick layer of chocolate glaze. First bite, you get that rich chocolate flavor right away, smooth and sweet without tasting fake or overly sugary. The brioche itself had that buttery flavor to it, light but still filling. The texture was probably the best part. Soft center, slight chew from the brioche, and the glaze added just enough thickness on top to make every bite feel rich. Honestly, it was almost too much for one person, but in the best way possible. Definitely lived up to the hype for me.

Second and bigger problem is that they don't pack big orders so you can carry them out. How the heck am I going to carry 6 boxes and a bag of donuts??? Maybe they want to keep their business "small". A simple brown bag or even something to tie the boxes together would have been very helpful.

The crust was thin and crispy, with a large air cavity, making it very soft and fluffy. The salted egg yolk has just the right balance of sweetness and saltiness, and wasn't too cloying. Garlic Cheese Brioche Bun蒜香奶酪麵包: Perhaps its more Taiwanese name is "八蒜包" (Eight Garlic Bun). Its appearance and taste were very similar to those I've had at Taiwanese bakeries in mainland China. The cheese and garlic flavors were very strong, but the bread itself was slightly coarse. Hojicha Latte: The whole milk was very milky, but the hojicha flavor felt a little weak. However, it's already great to find a tea latte that's not very sweet.
