My 5 starts is for the service! The young ladies working allowed me to try 5 flavors KINDLY (I was stressed okay) before finally picking my pistachio flavor. The ice cream was great but the service was better. Thank you guys!

I visited Van Leeuwen Ice Cream while in Chicago, and unfortunately, it wasn't the best experience. First off, the prices are very high over $10 for two scoops, which felt excessive considering the portion sizes aren't that big. It definitely gave off a touristy vibe, and not in a good way. I tried the Marionberry Cheesecake flavor. There was only one cashier working at the time, so the wait was longer than expected just to get a simple order. On top of that, the service wasn't very welcoming. The cashier wasn't rude, but she wasn't friendly either no suggestions, minimal interaction, and only answered questions when asked. That said, I will give them credit for their unique flavor selection. They offer options you don't typically see at other ice cream shops, and they also have vegan choices, which is a nice plus. I also liked that you can sample flavors before deciding. The shop itself is cute, with chic decor and plenty of seating. Overall, between the high prices, small portions, and lackluster service, I wouldn't return the next time I'm in Chicago.

genuinely so overhyped and overpriced. The service was fine, but I expected it to be better for being in the Willis tower (major tourist attraction obviously). The new Shirley temple float had barely any grenadine and I was shocked when I was handed the rest of the ginger ale. For $12 I expected more. The inside is cute though.

I love Van Leeuwen ice cream! I was glad to stumble upon a location while visiting Chicago. It's located inside the food hall of the Willis Tower. It had their same classic and unique flavors that you'll find at other locations. I decided to try the berry cornbread, which is cornbread flavored ice cream mixed with jam. Delicious! I absolutely loved every creamy bite.

So cute inside!!! A lot of different flavor selections and great service from the staff. Cant wait to come back!!

They have great flavor selection. Lots of vegan options. It is on the pricier side. Jeni's does a better waffle cone. They did run out of the dark chocolate brownie flavor, so I got coffee affogato instead with fudge. It wasn't too sweet. The hojicha was very smooth. Staff made sure to keep the place clean, so there can be a wait. Otherwise, no complaints. Cute space.

We were recommended to come here. They are located east at the bottom of the Willis Tower. There was a big group before us so we had time to look. I think the ice cream was good but not great. I thought the waffle cone cup was yummy. The lady that helped us was very nice as well.

This's our first time coming to this location. We always buy them at the grocery store, never came to the actual scoop shop. It's located inside the Willis tower. You can sample as many flavor as you like, and they have the Chicago exclusive Malort flavor! Its really tasted like it!! We got the mango sticky rice, and strawberry yuzu cheesecake flavor and the peanut butter brownie. They are all really good! The price is a bit high for the size of the scoop. The employees are all very nice, they will let you sample as many as you wish. They also sell pints to take home. I always love their ice cream, so it's nice they finally opened a brick and mortar store in the city.

Went for the $1 scoop opening special. Service was great, the space was clean and they have a variety of flavors. My reason for 3 stars is due to their regular pricing. $8+ for a scoop of ice cream (and a small scoop at that) is criminal.

Oh! Van Leeuwen is steaming hot! They opened the first one in Wicker Park in September but we finally went there today, ahh! I had the the Pumpkin Cheesecake Milkshake and it was fantastic. The staff and service are leeuwenriffic. I'll be back to try the Mango Sticky Rice.

BEST HOT FUDGE!!!…read more Margie's has been open for over 100 years. The exterior neon signs are all from 1954 and a lot of the interior decor is original from when they first opened, including all the Tiffany lamps. You can either order to-go at the inside counter, or wait for a table. If you order to-go, you'll wait outside and they will call your number when it's ready. If you prefer to eat in, they will call your name while you wait outside. Typically the wait for a table isn't too long since it's just ice cream. I always have to get a sundae with their homemade original hot fudge. It's sooo good and served in your own gravy boat.

There are a wide array of sundaes to choose from; I got the Margie's famous raspberry hot fudge sundae, which was so yummy; the fudge came in a little turreen on the side and the sundae itself was served in their signature clamshell dish. My husband got a chocolate chip cookie sundae, served in a big glass bowl. There are also shakes, malts, phosphates and other treats to choose from on their menu, as well as a case of homemade candies. The place isn't big and is rather crowded so we got an "eat and get out" vibe from the staff, which made me feel rushed (and who wants to hurry through ice cream?) Overall, though, Margie's has clearly been a Chicago favorite for a long time for a reason. Check them out.

It was pricey but enough for 2 people to share. Metered parking on a weekend evening was easy. My only complaint is that it had a strange, unpleasant smell inside (we were there in the evening during the weekend of April 25th). Also, when I came a few years ago, it had a really cozy, welcoming vibe packed with comfy couches. Now, it just looks like basic tables and plastic chairs, lacking comfort, character, and charm. I'm hoping to return to try the sweet potato latte and the other shaved ices, but I hope they do something about the smell and make the space feel more cozy and inviting.

I found it interesting that the hot fudge was served on the side, but it's actually pretty smart because you get control how much (or how little) sauce you get. The ice cream is the highlight. It's creamy and rich, and it's got a really nice flavor, too.
