Food has been fire since the 90s. If come to Houston need to go here. Fried chicken and rice with gravy. Don't ask just try it.

The Original Timmy Chan is one of those restaurants that folks in Houston tell you that you have to try. Especially the one on MLK street. So that's what I did. I ordered the shrimp fried rice and wing combo. The fried rice was super fresh and hot. But I was a little turned off by the little shrimp they used. Definitely not seasoned and tasted rubbery. The wings were good. Crispy and good seasoning. Overall if you're looking for something quick and not too costly you should try.

On a random Sunday around 4PM this spot was already packed, with lines out the door, parking lot full, and drivethru line out into the street. It definitely feels like an experience and something like a southside staple. This is definitely not a spot for the faint of heart. Barred windows, bullet proof glass, security guard patrolling the area, def not a place to sit and eat (not that they really have any dining space). However, during the day, with my oblivious and overall nonchalant nature, I felt fine. We waited in line to order, which took a little bit of time as it does seem a bit understaffed for the number of customers. Ordering was somewhat difficult as I could barely understand the cashier and wasn't aware of all the options and sides. We (over)ordered the orange chicken, 4 wings with shrimp fried rice, and catfish and shrimp meals along with 2 teacakes. Food came out after ~15-20 minutes and we grabbed our food and headed out. Portions are very generous for the price and food was good. Its Chinese-American food and they seem to do it well. I thought the catfish was really moist and tender, the chicken wings were really crisp and well seasoned, the orange chicken didn't travel super well but the flavor was nice, more orange than I expected. I'd say I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Overall, if you're willing to have a bit of an experience, craving some chinese american food, and have cash on hand, Timmy Chan's will fit that niche!

It's not much to look at from the outside or inside, does not offer any frills, had difficult parking, but prices are pre-inflation throwback, the food is pretty good overall and comes in generous servings. My favorite part of our meal was the fried chicken, catfish, and shrimp which each had a nice southern style breading, a salt and pepper seasoning, and tasted fresh. Our fries were also really tasty with a good thickness and crunchiness and were not too oily. The orange chicken was ok, but not that special and was probably my least favorite thing we ordered. I felt there wasn't much orange flavor and it was a bit too sweet. I recommend sticking to the fried items and seafood as those seem to be their best options.

I must've went on a bad night. I was rushed at the window with no one behind me. (7pm closing time isn't until 9:30) Didn't receive my 10cent change JUST to get home two long black thing hairs in my egg foo young!! GREAT i was rushed and robbed just to have hairy food

I had high hopes because I've heard this is some of the best Chinese food in Houston (specifically this location). Must be me because I was not impressed or amused! The service was good! She answered my questions and was patient with me ordering. Ordered shrimp egg foo young with steamed white rice, gravy on the side. 4 wings with regular fried rice. Im not sure what the fried bread was called but that was the best part of the meal. The place has a drive thru and inside seating. Why a 3 you ask? The food just wasn't good for me. The egg foo young was overly shrimped up; I say that because I started to have an allergic reaction. Ive never had one before with this dish. No veggies in the fried rice. The rice was seasoned along with the chicken but it was so much pepper. The gravy taste like it was from a can/jar and watered down. I mean the food looks appealing, but it just wasn't!

I didn't catch the name of the gentleman at the front but he was super easy going, professional and patient with us while we decided why to get since it was our first time. I noticed they now advertise 50 flavors, and the specials have changed as well. Unfortunately, just my luck, my usual flavor, Spicy Lemon Pepper BBQ, is no longer on the menu. I decided to try Spicy Lemon Pepper Honey instead, and it was actually really good. I'd definitely order that flavor again. My friend ordered the same flavor, but her order only came out as regular Spicy Lemon Pepper, so she was understandably disappointed with that mix-up. I also ordered two separate 6-count wing orders ($10.99 each) and was only given one ranch sauce. Mind you, these weren't part of a wing special. If I had ordered a 12-count with two flavors, I would've understood, but ordering two separate 6-counts made me assume we'd each get our own sauce. Maybe I should've been more specific, but honestly, I didn't think that would be necessary. The other odd part of the experience was requesting the wings to be fried hard. The cook came out from the back three separate times to confirm that's what I wanted and kept emphasizing that it would take 20 minutes. I was a little confused because, yes, that's exactly how I ordered them, and I was perfectly fine waiting since I'm paying for the food. I even asked how long they normally cook them because all the repeated confirmations started making me concerned. The reason I requested them fried hard in the first place was because during a previous visit, the wings were soft and borderline undercooked. Overall, the wings were good this time around, but the multiple service hiccups made the experience a little frustrating. I'd probably come back, but maybe on a Wednesday for the .99 special because there are other places in Houston with better wing deals at this price point. The food has potential, especially with all the flavor options, but consistency and attention to detail could definitely be improved.

Nice cozy place, perfect setting for fried chicken. I am sure they had other stuff, but that was the mission for this visit. First, I noticed that the staff handling food behind the counter were not wearing gloves. Hygiene is important, especially when preparing and serving food, and it was concerning that no one appeared to be following proper food safety practices. At that time, the rotisserie was already being cleaned, which told me they had stopped preparing fresh chicken for the day. Instead, they were serving pre-cooked chicken kept in a warmer. As expected, this made the chicken dry and hard on the outside. I ordered the 1/2 dark meat chicken with yellow rice and Tequeños. However, I was given two small leg quarters and an extra piece of white meat--which I didn't ask for--all of which were extremely dry. The portion size has noticeably decreased as well. I was also very concerned to see them using spray cleaner near the food, which poses a risk of chemical contamination. On top of that, the Tequeños were extremely dark and tasted like they had been refried, nearly burnt. Adding to the poor experience, one of the girls behind the counter was playing around and massaging her coworkers while customers were being served. That level of unprofessional behavior is not something anyone wants to see while waiting for their food. I've always liked this place for its fresh rotisserie chicken, but it feels like DoDo's has started cutting corners on both food quality and cleanliness. Paying $19.52 for this meal just didn't feel worth it.
