Let me explain: we used To love this place because of the good food and drinks and great ambiance, however we discovered that they don't include the "sphere" ice in their cocktails during happy hour, and they want you to pay extra to include it. I mean, it's frozen water for pete's sake! My coworkers wouldn't return just put of principle (and I have to say I don't disagree!) We were invited and attended but until they start acting like a high end restaurant that can afford to serve their aperitif drinks the best way possible (and that includes a sphere ice in an Old Fashion) I don't think the local team will offer it up as an option to go out to. Other than that, the plateau Royale was good as were the calamari and Brussel sprout appetizers. Entrees seemed to please everyone as did coffee. I have been eyeing this place since I moved to this neighborhood, and it did not disappoint. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and the ambiance and service was divine. From the moment we walked in, to the end of our dinner. The cocktails were fabulous, and so were the mock tails. We ordered mussels, and a seafood tower and it was so delicious. I am still thinking about their tuna crudo. We also had dessert and it was just as delicious . Honestly they hit every single mark for me. Stopped in for dinner with friends. The decor was nice inside with low lighting. The menu is 98% seafood with only 3 dishes for people like me who don't eat seafood. An steak, chicken or a burger. I started off with the clam chowder, it tasted good and plenty of clams in it. Then I got the burger. It was a double patty flame broiled. Comes with lettuce, tomato, pickle, cheese, comeback sauce and bacon jam. It comes served with fries, the burger was ok and the fries were good. I also had the smash burger with fries. The burger was phenomenal! Like best I've had all my life lol The fries were thick cut and seconded and they were so delicious. I had the the self serve mimosa which was a bottle of champagne with oj for $25- definitely worth it! Atmosphere 5/5- The inside was beautiful! More on the upscale side. WON'T BE BACK :/ While grateful to be able to dine at a nice restaurant- but this was very disappointing. Especially after we raved about our prior experience and referred so many of our clients and friends over. Hopefully it was just an off day- but, we likely won't return. Here is why...underwhelming and not as good of an experience as we enjoyed our first time. The place was pretty empty and seemed understaffed (Sunday Brunch). In the time we were there, we had 5 different people bring our ordered items over. Greeting and service- polite, but not warm. Slightly awkward. A few specifics: We ordered the Petite Tower and unfortunately had gritty oysters and mussels. We like cocktail sauce for both the oysters and shrimp and there was only one teeny tiny little condiment dish with barely enough cocktail sauce for one. One lemon wedge. No explanation of what the other sauces were that looked the same (one was vinegar and one seemed to be a clear hot sauce). Additionally, we both ordered cocktails... and there was not any bread/roll service. Not even a cracker (last visit they served delicious rolls and offered to refill them). To us, this is especially important if you are waiting a while for your food- like we were-and also important if you happen to be a bit more of a lightweight when consuming alcohol (me). The server did ask how we liked our cocktails at the end of our service and I said it was 'alright'-but, truthfully, it got watered down while I waited for food to arrive, as I cannot drink a strong drink without eating something. I also like to enjoy my cocktail while my actual food order is being prepared. (We ordered appetizers AND entrees- both took a good while to receive). The food had some nice flavoring, but everything else was lacking. Last time we came, there were rolls, plenty of condiments and our server was the same throughout and he really engaged with us and seemed to be happy that we were there. Today, there was an overall vibe of awkward. Finally, today was my birthday and my husband made sure it was mentioned on our reservation- never acknowledged- not even a simple 'happy birthday'. Why even ask on the reservation if it is a 'special occasion'? Perhaps a technical issue, but still valid enough to mention. Decor is beautiful- that is one consistent positive factor. Small group decided to head to Baldwin Park and get a patio table to celebrate a birthday. The party-planner mistakenly placed the reservation for 6 on the wrong day, but the hostesses were quick to right our wrong and accommodated. We were so grateful that they went out of their way to fix our mistake. Many of us had never been before and we enjoyed just about everything. We started off a with a few cocktails and beers (their selection is high-quality, but slightly limited). We worked our into smoked salmon dip and calamari, both of which didn't last long in the least. Would have liked for the fish dip portion to be slightly bigger, but both apps had complex flavors and were cooked beautifully. Caesar salads all around that they thoughtfully served as half-portions as we split salads with each couple. I got anchovies on the side which were high-quality and delicious. Oysters were enjoyed by most in the party and the consensus was that the Virginia oysters were a bit more enjoyable (less briney) than the west coast oysters. To the entrees -- every piece of seafood was cooked perfectly except the salmon. They claim that it's chef's choice to cook to medium, but it was well-done. No worries as it still tasted wonderful, just the texture off a bit. The only big complaint that was shared by the group was gnocchi being way over cooked. They essentially tasted like mashed potatoes and had not gnocchi consistency to them. Very disappointed there, but not enough to overshadow how incredible everything else was. The desserts came out, complete with a few digestifs (that we ordered). They thoughtfully put a candle in a dessert for our birthday girl and spoons to share everything. The desserts were good, but not spectacular. Each lacked a bit of flavor, but were all baked/cooked to perfection. They make their ice cream in house and each was great. This is a cute trendy restaurant. I'm a sucker for a place with an open kitchen. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The grand tower is great. The oysters are nice and sweet and they have a selection of different kinds. The sauce they put the lobster in makes it even better.I also got an autumn salad that was nice and light. They change their menu every now and then, especially for brunch. So there's always something new to try. Their chefs can get pretty creative, and it's always pleasantly surprising! Came here with a friend for their happy hour. We got there a little before 5 which is when they open. There were several other parties waiting at the restaurant too. We were seated immediately because I made reservations to be safe. We each ordered a dozen of their $1 happy hour oysters, an Osprey punch and another cocktail. Not even an hour later, the restaurant was filled. We ordered another dozen each after our first dozen were finished. I really love how fresh they were. Seriously a great deal. We ended up ordering wings, clams and mussels and another round of drinks after. The clams and mussels were okay. They were cooked well and are cooked in their own sauces, but I felt that the sauces just okay. I'm glad I tried them but I'll skip on them next time. The wings were delicious per my friend who ordered them. Overall definitely worth a visit especially during happy hour. Service was great - our waitress was very efficient and friendly. Fantastic ambiance and fantastic restaurant in Baldwin Park. My experience was very positive; the waitress was amazing and took good care of our table. I was in the mood for oyster so I ordered half a dozen and it was so tasty. The oysters were grilled and seasoned in a citrus herb butter sauce that made so palatable. My entree was pretty simple, I had the tavern burger with fries. I loved everything about the burger from the gruyere to the fancy sauce. Their drink menu is also very good. This is an update- the first time I dined here, I wasn't impressed as my prior review will show. My husband and I did return for a birthday dinner and were pleasantly surprised by the cocktails, menu items and desserts. The Florida Thyme is a dynamite libation and goes down dangerously easily! My husband had a gin drink, the White Negroni, that he enjoyed, too. Osprey's warm ambiance and dedication to good taste will win you over and their recently added entrees will delight your palate! Prior review: For ambiance and gastro-experimentology, I'd give this place 5 stars but the appetizers and light plates at our table of 7 last night were neither visually appealing nor were they very flavorful. The salad I had was primarily sun-chokes with a huge dollop of lemon crema (my friend and I wondered at why anyone dare dress a salad with such) and some gnarly chopped twig bits that added a much needed texture to the dish. Other items that I recognized in my salad were a piece of carrot and a shred of radish. By comparison, my fellow diners fare was far heartier- the tavern dog was monstrous and came with an enormous helping of smoked fries which was way more of what I'd consider a "tavern dish"! The ciabatta sticks with shaved bresaola and scotch egg starters were also generous and filling-but the bresaola was bland. The margarita pizza starter was good, but needed more spice. Most of the plates were all visually unappealing as they were a blah mix of many shades of browns and beiges. The cookies and cream ice cream was "just okay" according to my pal and the German chocolate cake sounded delish, but arrived at the table as the chef's deconstructed interpretation of my personal childhood fav and I refused to sample the concoction because my eyes were so sorely disappointed. Not sure I'll return....Baldwin Park is too far off the beaten path and I wasn't impressed enough to give it a second chance. Well, we just returned from our Magical Dining Experience at Osprey and WOW! They've really upped their game!! I had the Happy Hour punch made with tequila and it was scrumptious and had me begging for recipe to keep a batch on tap at home! You must try it some night- Citrus-grapefruit and not too sweet- just the right blend. My dinner partners had the old fashioned and some amazing red wines, too. I raised my rating to five stars as a result of the incredible trout dish with farro they are featuring as a Magical Menu item. While I will say that the ambiance doesn't necessarily fit the seafood aspect of The Osprey, it really is a beautiful dining room. A bar in the middle surrounded by candlelit tables all around, the decorations and feel of The Osprey is very upscale while the food prices are still very reasonable. I personally went for their wine and liquor menu and found a strong selection of local craft brews and whiskeys. They have a good variety of options and the service is excellent overall. First time at The Osprey for our third year wedding anniversary! We go a lot to Baldwin Park and we always walked by this restaurant and been wanting to try it, not going to lie the interior is absolutely amazing, every detail is well picked. My favorite is the semi-private dining room with the wine room behind it! GORGEOUS! My husband and I wanted to celebrate and have a little cocktail. I'm not a drinker but why not this time, so I wanted to order a cocktail then the bartender asked for my ID, silly me I didn't have it. The bartender thought I was 24 years old while I am 37! LOL I guess that's a compliment. The bartender has every right to ask for my ID, she was nice enough to make an exception but before she wanted to permission of her manager. Unfortunately, the manager refused to service me the cocktail which is completely fine. The food was AMAZING! We had the crab cake, chowder soup, catch of the day, a fish and two sides. Everything was just delicious. While we were enjoying our dinner, we see the manager (who said no to serve me the cocktail) sitting in front of us at the bar entertaining a friend or a family member, she orders half of the menu, a couple of cocktails and shots along with the bartender. The two bartenders, the bar back and two other servers were full attention with her and not paying attention to the rest of the actual "paying" customers in the restaurant. Now I understand refusing to serve me a drink because she wanted to "follow the rules" but I honestly don't think she follows the rules but abusing her power and drinking at the job. If she wants to follow the rules, follow them till the end. The kitchen staff were all working hard and the rest of the staff, kudos to them! 5 STARS to them !!! We recently moved here from San Francisco into Baldwin Park, and we have found the restaurant that we'll call home. Didn't have a reservation, but managed to get a table on what seemed to be a really busy night. Our server Brett was at the table, even before the host was done seating us, and walked us through the menu, telling us that everything is made of house, and because of that, there's "no need to make any substitutions." He was 100% on point. We ordered in staggered sequence and had quite a bit of the menu with each dish better than the last. A burger is never supposed to make you come back, but the Osprey's changes that rule. The fish and chips are some of the best crispiest I've ever had, and the care to the food such as our trout and throughoutt the menu was very evident, (not even to mention the open kitchen with the diligent and very quiet cooks, moving incredible efficiency.) Managers on point - we never really needed anything, but they were constantly there. We have found a lot of restaurants here that have pretty good food and OK service or really good service and OK food, but this was the service of the highest-end restaurants and zero pretense (I would go so far as to say that our server was almost a little goofy and nerdy in the most pleasant way, but while maintaining professionalism) , with wine, spirits, and food knowledge from the server equaling that of world-class restaurants; the food is so far out of the class of its price point-wise it's almost difficult to believe. We finally got around to dining at the Osprey in Baldwin Park! First off, the interior is just drop-dead gorgeous. There is an old-timey charm to the decor, the furnishings, and the big beautiful bar in the center of the restaurant. They're shooting for an upscale, old-timey Florida vibe, and it is simply beautiful and strikes a perfect balance of elegance and casual. Beyond that, our experience did not blow our socks off. I ordered the scallops with polenta which came out barely warm. The flavor was there, but the temperature suggested something had gone wrong in the kitchen time-wise. My partner got the halibut provencal, which was very good (and the right temperature). They do have a happy hour menu we were able to take advantage of, but the food selections were somewhat limited (to be expected) and virtually all fried (oh no). We got the crab hush puppies, which were delightful. The cocktails were all dark liquors, which I know go with the theme/era they're shooting for, but for those of us who find bourbon headache-inducing, was a bit of a bummer. Now the downsides... The prices are quite high. Like eyebrow-raising high. For example, my partner's halibut costs, as of this writing, $32. And while it was good (and hot), it was a smaller portion. Their menu is also a little confusing. There are starters/shareables, oysters, entrees, and a mysterious vegetable section. We asked our server if we were meant to order the entrees like mains and order vegetables as separate sides and he said we could, but didn't need to. We decided to order and share the josper roasted carrots. They were yummy, but all the components were arranged in the dish in a disappointing manner. It was a huge pile of carrots that could not be negotiated, so we just ate top-down only to discover this yummy sauce at the bottom of the dish once we were completely out of carrots. We wanted dessert, but it was just not our bag. Ice cream (booooring), some key lime thing (never our go-to), and something else I can't recall. We settled on liquid dessert. I got an espresso martini, which was delicious, but very small. Finally, pet peeve alert. This was one of those "first time in 9 months the Florida temperature dipped below 90 degress" days, so they had all the doors open. While the temperature was indeed more pleasant than it had been up until that day, the humidity was still very high and it was positively swampy in there. You could cut through the moisture in the air. For those of you planning to dress up and do your hair to dine at the Osprey, let me recommend you reconsider. Dress like you're eating on your own back porch or you'll be wasting your time. I will be looking to dine there again, but if I'm being perfectly honest, I don't feel the price tag aligned with the food and experience. read more

Looking for a nice restaurant that is not terrible expensive....head over to the Osprey in Orlando, FL for a nice atmosphere meal. We were a large party of 8 so definitely make reservations. We loved all the appetizers....starting with the soft shell crab, smoked salmon dip, and calamari. Our main meals were sea scallops and braised lamb which was fantastic! The only compliant I have was the sea scallops were not very good, something about the sauce didn't taste good. The staff was polite and kind, following the mask guidelines. The Osprey has and is such an amazing place to dine. From before COVID to after, they stick to the rules in keeping things sanitary and safe. The tables being used are all at least 6 ft apart and all the staff wears a mask, even in the kitchen. Clients who aren't wearing masks are asked to leave, which is great that they enforce the rules! The food is SO FRESH and old fashioned drink is really good. The fall cider cocktail is also good, with a cinnamon forward scent and sweet finish. It's light to the taste. The oysters were delicious and the PL ones from Naples, FL were surprisingly my favorite since I usually love west coast oysters most. The hamachi crudo could've been more cold in temperature and that's my only complaint of it. The scallops were cooked to a T and very tender. It was full of flavor and the polenta helped in being a filler. The Bronzino was such a treat because they're always out when I would try ordering every time I'm here! The wait and anticipation did not fail me because it was amazing. So tender, juicy and full of flavor. I highly recommend you coming here. Due to Covid that had a limited menu which was not an issue as all the options sounded great! I went with the waiters suggestion and got the Cioppino ($29). Pei mussels, Cedar Key clams, u10 Sea Scallop, Argentine red shrimp, local catch all in tomato-saffron broth and a lovely piece of grilled old hearth sourdough.
