With friends visiting from Wisconsin, I was intent on showing them the glory of Utah's mountains. There isn't a better way to illustrate this alpine majesty than a drive to Sundance. Drinks at the Owl Bar were just an added elixir to the wonderment of this gorgeous April afternoon. We all loved the history and rustic ambiance of this inn. Servers were friendly and the cocktails just fine. Bar food hit the spot, with the fried pickles matching the lore of Sundance and Robert Redford. In fact, other than his direction of "Ordinary People," most people would take the fried pickles over Bob. Sorry. They were that good. I shall return to the Owl Bar and for a stay at the Sundance Resort. I'm an urban dude and usually find nature a bit too, well uncontrolled. Went to owl bar w a couple friends. We ordered a bunch of food and drinks. The waiter seemed as though he forgot about us, until I took a picture and then I got scolded. Apparently no pictures or videos at the place that started a film festival? At the end of the meal, a COCKROACH came out from under my fries after I had eaten the whole bison melt!!! I told the waiter. He talked to management and they said there was nothing they could do... they didn't even take that one plate off the ticket. However, when my bill came back, there was an additional $20. I thought Ashton Kutcher was going to pop out and tell me I was linked or something. Never going back. read more

What a quaint bar and delish food too. We got the Naked Tickle Fight cocktail (what a name). Good drink. Gibson was a server. He was knowledgeable and attentive. For eats, we ordered the crab hash-browns. I love crab and I had never heard of this dish before. It did not disappoint with fresh herbs and lots of crab atop some crisp, but not over cooked hash-browns. Then we ordered a Bison burger cooked medium well with bacon and cartelized onions with Russian dressings on a delish Kaiser roll. This was the best bison burger I have ever had and I have had them all over the PNW. We asked that the music be changed (they were playing rap??? ). They changed it To something more appealing and appropriate as soon as we asked. I rarely rave about "bar food" but I would drive up to Sundance to The Owl Bar again just to Eat, let alone drink. Awesome atmosphere and refreshing beer (Robert Redford's beer nonetheless). Very cowboyesque appeal, so charming and cozy nested in the Sundance mountains. What a lovely way to 'kill some time' before going to a 'real' 4th of July BBQ at a house in a nearby town (we were so full after having our 'appetizers' here that honestly could not eat anything else at our party). We got the wagyu burger, the fantastic pretzel with those incredible sauces (and I thought I was not a pretzel person) and the fried artichokes hearts. We came to the Sundance Resort to eat at the Foundry Grill yet failed to make a reservation. Go figure ‍ so we ended up at the Owl Bar. (I will mention the lighting is dim like bar fashion so no pics of the meal. So did it actually happen??) We had a party of 10 and were able to squish a few tables together which made for a strangely more intimate feel which I liked. Normally I feel it is a bit loud so opt for a weeknight to avoid the loud noise and crowds. I love that a small portion of the restaurant menu is available to eat here which is a big reason why we stayed. And it came out 10x's faster than the restaurant so there's a life hack for you. We ordered the nachos with steak which could have easily been shared by 2 or even 5 and also the BBQ Buffalo burger which is so well priced for what you get. Overall, FANTASTIC alternative to The Foundry Grill or best to eat on a weeknight. Plus, Sundance is so unreal during fall! You must go even for dessert or a drink! read more

Beautiful historic bar nestled in the Sundance Resort. The historic bar that serves for a backdrop in the bar is just beautiful. Love how cozy and inmate the bar is, with two rooms (one with a fireplace) as well as outdoor patio dining when the weather allows. The staff is super friendly, accommodating and just a pleasure to have serve you! There is a TV in there to watch the sports games, which we enjoyed as well, but the whole bar atmosphere transports you back to a different time. Definitely one of the coolest bars I've been to in Utah. Nestled in the back of Sundance it feels private and cozy. The interior is seriously charming, and severely rustic. We came with a giant group (a bridal party) after the wedding rehearsal. We rolled in about twenty deep, and while I wouldn't generally recommend coming with a group that large (orders are bound to be missed/forgotten and service is bound to be slow) they somehow they managed to accommodate us. Props to our server (sorry I forgot your name) who kept things super organized and created tabs for each party within the group so we didn't have a cluster**** when it came time to pay at the end. Drink wise I thought the cocktails were pretty good, but not great.. maybe like a 3.5/5 and mainly because I'm a little persnickety when it comes to classic cocktails. I did find one I loved, which had Jalapeños, tequila, cucumber, lime and cointreau (so basically a spicy margarita) and I would highly recommend that one if it's still on the menu. The food I thought, was really good though! We mostly ordered bar food (pizza, nacho's, fried things) but it was 'elevated' gastro-pub type fare which was pleasantly unexpected. The nachos were gigantic, and I definitely recommend them as they come with both a cheese sauce and also just melted cheese. The pizza I ordered came with figs, goat cheese, prosciutto and arugula. The highlight food item though I think were the 'Hot Damn Fried Dill Pickles' which are pretty much everything I live for. The Hot Damn Dills are from a pickle company out of Park City (HeeHaw Pickle Co.) and I literally buy them by the boat load when I see them out here in California so I was blown away by the fact that they were fried and on the menu at Owl Bar. The Owl bar used to be great - great food, great atmosphere, great live music. Sadly, the new owners want to turn the resort into a profit making venture. So they took away the great bar food and fired the culinary team. The new team puts out food that's twice as expensive and has nothing to do with Redford's original idea of a homegrown down to earth resort. Now it's caviar and fancy cheeses instead of nachos and fried pickles. We used to come here a lot. They've lost us - and many other locals I imagine - as loyal customers. What a shame. The Owl Bar today is a master class in how to quickly destroy an exceptional restaurant experience. For years one of our absolute favorite places to enjoy an outdoor casual dinner - great ambience at the base of the mountain surrounded by trees and a peaceful running creek. A solid menu with a fantastic charcuterie board, great nachos, Brussels sprouts, tempura vegetables, etc...we would always see each of those items on every table. We went tonight for the first time in several months, with all of us looking forward to enjoying some of our favorite food in one of our favorite spots. Much to our surprise, all of those favorites are no longer on the menu.That would be okay if they were replaced with better. To say the menu has been reduced, not just in number of items, but the quality of offerings, would be a gross understatement. While nachos remain on the menu, they pale in comparison to the previous offering. None of the other favorites survived what we were told are changes by a new chef. My fried chicken sandwich contained what looked like a fake chicken cutlet straight from the freezer section at Costco. Nothing special at all. The burger...average. The one salad - small and extremely overpriced. All in all, we witnessed a lesson in how to ruin a great thing from the food to the service. Our waitress was full of facts about the trouble brewing internally. It did not enhance our experience to have her refer to a menu offering as the "shit nachos", to tell us she couldn't stand the new chef, to say the only good food at Sundance was now at the Lookout, or to argue with my daughter about the Rose she ordered that was actually not a Rose. The Owl Bar at Sundance has been one of the greatest places to drink and eat......until now. Food - sliders and fries, was almost inedible. Tasted like microwave food. I ate it - and regret it. New management, and it has changed - for the worse. I hope who ever is in charge of their kitchen wakes up and brings back the incredible menu/ offerings that we all love and crave. We have been going to the owl bar for 2 years, driving from Las Vegas 3-4 times per year to eat their amazing nachos. Can't tell you how disappointed we were this trip. The greatest bar in all of Utah. I love this bar. They have some of the best drinks and amazing food. My favorite food options that they have here are the fried pickles. They are made with Hot Damn Dills from Park City. The chipotle aioli it comes with is wondrous. The wagyu burger is fantastic. I also love the buffalo style chicken wings. The whole resort here is absolutely magical, and the owl bar is no different. You can basically feel the energy of past stars that have graced its bars lingering in the crisp air. Service is really sweet, they even remember you after being gone for a year. Food is good and there are some vegan options, but it is your typical bar food. Overall, it's really the atmosphere that makes this place worth checking out. read more

Love the Owl Bar and live the crew there. It's like Cheer's! Everybody knows your name, what you drink and how you like your blue cheese burger cooked! Sit outside in the summer, dine by the fire in the winter or hang out by the burn barrel. Great music on the weekends and always good service. Went up to check out the Harvest Market and it started raining hard so we ducked into the bar and was able to snag a couple bar seats. First time sitting at this bar and our server was very efficient and fast! We immediately got our drinks and ordered a artichoke appetizer. That was good but a little salty for me, my husband loved it. I come to Utah 3-4 times a year for business and make sure to spend all my free time lodging at Sundance as well as eating there. Most times meetings run to late to eat anywhere else other than the Owl Bar if I'm lucky we can make it to the Tree Room ran by a kind fellow with a great mustache ( The BEST restaurant in Sundance in my opinion: food, experience and staff.) For the last seven years I don't think I've ever had a complaint in the food until now. Owl Bar always had the amazing nachos with the beans at the bottom straight from the oven and worth every penny, brussels sprouts with almond slices, Charcuterie board, ceviche, pasta, etc. Always an amazing selection to choose from, followed by the best wine selection. We had the chance to order basically everything on this new menu and all I can say is WOW. Not only has the selection been cut in half which could've been great if it was well selected cuisine. But it has become worse than a chain restaurant. The food has become painfully obvious that is frozen and refried and put on a platter with no thought. Nachos were mediocre to say the least. Sliders were literally worse than your whole in the wall pub that put everything in the microwave and heat it. Chicken in the Chicken Sandwich was 100% a patty bought at a local store that you question is real chicken at all. Burger was subpar to say the least. Salad and wings were more bearable than most. There is no point in going in for dining. Care for the food is obviously not important at all and it is whatever they can make easiest and fastest. A shame. When brought up to the staff they had almost sad dog eyes because i'm sure it's not the first time they've heard it before. And when also asked why they changed the menu so drastically there was no one good answer and were obviously uncomfortable and a touchy subject to say the least. Shame to whoever is choosing the menu. Sundance Owl Bar is no longer the same and for no fresh food you are overpaying to say the least. Wasn't here long but it is a sweet place. I gave it a 4 because I didn't try any food but the inside is really cool. Transports you to olden times where Butch might have been there to have a drink with you. Log cabin inside with dim lighting which makes me look prettier than I am.
