We head to Pismo often. Mostly stopping to get Giuseppe's slices. We decided to try Alex's. We hadn't yet read any of the lore on the website. We just smelled good food. Can I please tell you. Upon arrival to exit- perfection. Bbq sandwich was great. Coleslaw delicious. Skinny fries perfect. Best happy hour menu I've seen in a long time! 3$ PBR. I was elated. While it was nice to eat great food, watching baseball in good weather. We will be back for Eric. Heard some folks on the way out calling him Shay. Food: Pulled pork slider, hamburger slider, fries, cole slaw and two fish tacos. Fish pieces in the tacos are huge. Very tasty, and they don't skimp on the toppings. Fries were good, seasoned. The sliders were each excellent with some unique sauces/toppings. Overall, the food was a five. Service: Fast, friendly and efficient. Perfect combo for a five star. Ambience: Sports bar vibe. Not huge, from the outside, the place looks massive. It is not. Everything was clean and comfortable. Too many good looking choices on the menu for one visit, so I will have to return. read more

Fourth of July at Pismo Beach and Alex's BBQ was one of the rare places open after 9:00 pm--for that reason alone they deserve our business. In addition, food was really good. The food and service were great. We had the BBQ pork sandwich with Cole slaw and French fries. It was delicious, but it was too cold in there, even when the waitress closed the sliding glass doors. We decided to go to another restaurant for our party for one of my friends. They said it had been open for over a year. They should have had it warmer in there, then we would have held the party there. It was a bar-like atmosphere with the doors wide open. It would have been better if it were warmer. read more

I went to Pismo Beach this weekend to see the car show. I went in to this restaurant to get a seat outside to view the crowd and the vehicles. I did not know that I was going to just enjoy a drink or two, but I enjoyed the food that we had there. Food was really good and the service was great. Issue I had was how unsafe I felt. Lots of drunks, like falling down drunk and it was still pretty early. My table was knocked pretty hard by someone unable to stand and my drink almost fell over. Bartenders need to not over serve so other patrons can feel safe. The Beef Ribs were overcooked and extremely dry, the Ribeye seemed it had been cooked in a microwave, and the Clam Chowder was cold bland. I started going to Alex's in Shell Beach, when I was going to Cal Poly in the 70's and after it was demoed (by accident), everyone I knew were super bummed. When we found out it reopened in Pismo Beach, we have been going there ever since. The food and people are the same friendly folks, making you feel right at home, just like the old Alex's. Went for the second time with friends this week. Still feel the same way we did the first try...it's ok. First visit, beef ribs...too much bbq for our taste and tough, beans....dry and flavor ok, baked potato...overcooked and gray. This week got the balsamic chicken, potato and veggies. Presentation of everyone's dishes was blah and boring. Chicken was cooked well but salty and just fine, but not great. Potato was cooked better this time, but so skimpy on toppings. Veggies were steamed well, but no seasoning or anything to dress them up. Our cocktails were brought out 10 minutes apart from one another, which was weird. BREAKFAST at this place is amazing!! Truly THE BEST spot in town. We just moved into the area and have been here a few times simply because the service brings us back. The service is amazing. Huge fan of beef ribs, so naturally I thought we'd give this place a shot. We got the 1/2 and 1/2 plate plus two side. The 3 beef ribs I got, two were with little meat more bone, one was ok. I've been to place where the beef is plentiful. Pork ribs were over cooked, the side came in very small portions and once again weak drinks at $15-18 bucks per, the one for 18 came in a very small glass, the waitress was very nice. Total for this subpar meal and drinks with tip $100 bucks. Place was nice, just not the food or prices. Another thing I don't like is when they don't tell you there are up charges for things without telling you when you're ordering. read more
