We head to Pismo often. Mostly stopping to get Giuseppe's slices. We decided to try Alex's. We hadn't yet read any of the lore on the website. We just smelled good food. Can I please tell you. Upon arrival to exit- perfection. Bbq sandwich was great. Coleslaw delicious. Skinny fries perfect. Best happy hour menu I've seen in a long time! 3$ PBR. I was elated. While it was nice to eat great food, watching baseball in good weather. We will be back for Eric. Heard some folks on the way out calling him Shay. We thought that we'd finally go to Alex's as it's a Pismo favorite ànd has a good reputation for tasty "grub"! My wife ordered the baby back ribs and they' were tasty but nothing terribly special. I ordered the Au just the tri tip. The dish looked delicious, but looks can be deceiving. I opened the sandwich and it looked more akin to scraps of meat than slices... I took a bite and what meat there was in the sandwich ànd it was tender and "tasteless ". I dipped the sandwich in the au jus ànd it remained tasteless....the au jus too was devoid of flavor ànd taste and seasoning. I brought my concern to the waitress/manager and she brought my displeasure to the cook. I asked what he said...she then informed me that the smoker was out of order. I asked then why serve such a desultory dish. She took a few bucks off the tab...actually that was an insult. They are running on their reputation and obviously don't need my business. Last time we ordered to go. It was pretty good. Tonight I have to say we were very disappointed. Shared a half rack with fries, beans, and salad. Ribs were dry with little flavor. Beans were bland... ok.... But bland. Even the steak fries had no flavor to them. Honestly my salad was the best part of the meal. Service was average as well. Fourth of July at Pismo Beach and Alex's BBQ was one of the rare places open after 9:00 pm--for that reason alone they deserve our business. In addition, food was really good. My 3rd time into Alexs had to try breakfast this time. Had a great omelette made to order with their crispy hash browns! Also upgraded to biscuit and gravy instead of toast. The omelette was light and fluffy, lots of options for fillings. Also the hash browns were amazing, they were like insane tater tot coins. Biscuits and gravy were good, lots of flavor, didn't have to add salt like I do at most places. Tried one of their signature bloody Mary's, it was so good I forgot to get a good picture of it! The food and service were great. We had the BBQ pork sandwich with Cole slaw and French fries. It was delicious, but it was too cold in there, even when the waitress closed the sliding glass doors. We decided to go to another restaurant for our party for one of my friends. They said it had been open for over a year. They should have had it warmer in there, then we would have held the party there. It was a bar-like atmosphere with the doors wide open. It would have been better if it were warmer. read more

Food: Pulled pork slider, hamburger slider, fries, cole slaw and two fish tacos. Fish pieces in the tacos are huge. Very tasty, and they don't skimp on the toppings. Fries were good, seasoned. The sliders were each excellent with some unique sauces/toppings. Overall, the food was a five. Service: Fast, friendly and efficient. Perfect combo for a five star. Ambience: Sports bar vibe. Not huge, from the outside, the place looks massive. It is not. Everything was clean and comfortable. Too many good looking choices on the menu for one visit, so I will have to return. read more

My wife and I came in for dinner. Great casual dining spot in Pismo. I had the tri-tip sandwich with au jus and sweet potato fries. The meat was thinly sliced and the French bread was amazing. My wife had the special ahi salad. She said it was light but filling. We shared the cherry cobbler for dessert, very tasty. Great service. Will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu. Food was really good and the service was great. Issue I had was how unsafe I felt. Lots of drunks, like falling down drunk and it was still pretty early. My table was knocked pretty hard by someone unable to stand and my drink almost fell over. Bartenders need to not over serve so other patrons can feel safe. The Beef Ribs were overcooked and extremely dry, the Ribeye seemed it had been cooked in a microwave, and the Clam Chowder was cold bland.
