Ordered dinner to go - I had the broiled Pork Loin chop, which was delicious and my husband had the Atlantic Salmon. My dish came with a salad. The woman over the phone, I believe her name was Jennifer recommend the house dressing, it was great. My husband had the Clam Chowder soup and he enjoyed it. When I went in to pick up the order, staff were very accommodating. They did have a live band and I believe they were playing country music; good band. Overall good food and service. read more

My family and I went to dinner at the Packing House on Friday at 8:45P.M. Two of us had the fish fry. Boy, did we make the wrong decision. The only good things were the cole slaw and bread. The French fries were cold but that wasn't the worst of it. We each received 3 extremely small pieces of over cooked fish. It was actually embarrassing to see the fish. I couldn't believe it. I have to say it was the worst fish fry I have had in Wisconsin. I gave it 2 stars because one of the people in our party enjoyed her food. read more

Drinks from the bar were good. Bread was good. Salad was good. Everything else was a disaster. I had the petit filet Oscar. Somebody opened a can of tuna in the back, threw it on my steak and called it "Oscar". They made up for it with limp asparagus and boring mashed potatoes. Best Waitress Ever: Penny (from Heaven). So earthy, honest, personable and knowledgable we went both nights on a business trip. Took a Lyft from downtown Milwaukee hotel area to check our this restaurant and it was well worth the trip. Modern dining environment with perfect table spacing/lighting. Service prompt and friendly but not smothering. Group of four so we sampled the escargot then ordered steaks, ribs, and seafood...all hit the mark and nothing to whine about as all with good flavor, nice portion, and cooked properly. We were stuffed so decided to share the banana crème pie and SO glad we did....what a piece of tasty pie! After a great meal we went over to the lounge and had a Yelp reviewer recommended grasshopper to share-a nice boozy green peppermint dessert drink so guess we had an dinner mint! The live trio was excellent...I mean really really at the top of their craft. I couldn't believe the guitar nuances/riffs and band's timing with the vocalist who could "sang". You cannot hear the live music in the main dining area in case anyone is worried that the band will be playing too loud over dinner. Just went on a double date with my boyfriend. We waited at least 5 -8 minuets before our server came over to greet us. She took our drink orders which she forgot one of the drinks that was ordered. Then we ordered our food which the scallops we very rubbery and not cooked like they are supposed to be cooked. Then I ordered the beef Wellington which was just a filet of beef with the pastry on top! It was very nasty and overly cooked! The initial seating was right outside the kitchen and staff seemed annoyed we requested a different table. I have to be gluten free because of celiac disease and I made this known. If you're looking for delicious ribs, chicken, steak, or seafood at a moderate price, go to the Packing House! My boyfriend and I celebrated my birthday there and were incredibly happy with our meal and service. I had the Sunday prime rib (yum!), and he had scallops (double yum!). Expect bread, soup or salad, and choice of potato with the main dish. The service was a tad slow, but the place was packed. Drive through fish fry is unbeatable. I have never been inside the restaurant, only done the drive through fish fry a couple dozen times, always good. It would be nice if the line would move along a bit faster but the portions are great at a very fair price. If you want Mrs. Gordons fish sticks go to that place that other place that people keep saying is the best in Milwaukee, if you want a really good fish fry this is the place. I was disappointed with this place. The staff was great. The appetizer we had was the stuffed mushrooms and those were good as well as the clam chowder. What disappointed me more was I ordered the Beef Wellington and when the plate showed up it did not live up to its description. The description said the beef Wellington was wrapped in a pastry as all beef wellingtons I have seen are that way this was a filet with a pastry draped over the top not really covering the meat at all and then baked. There was no real flavor until I added the cognac sauce that was on the side. I expected to pay what I did and going to the restaurant I understood that before I got there but was disappointed with what I got. My wife's Monterey chicken was good. They were not busy at all, probably because of the load screeching music in the bar. The host stand does not exist so you just stand in the middle of no where and hope some one sees you. Janet our waitress was condescending at best even after she dropped another tables food behind me splattering on me with no apology. The tomato basil soup I had was good. We both ordered the Filet special, while eating we could not figure out if it was the wine sauce or if it was the steak that was what tasted bad. It appeared to be the steak. Although I left comfortably full, next time I'll get the 8 ounce just because it was that good. Perhaps the best cooked steak I have ever had in a restaurant, ordered medium and it arrived perfectly cooked. The side salad, & mashed potatoes, included, we're great. My extra side of mushrooms just added to the joy. Our wait tress checked in on us at just the right times, not too often or too little. The servers swerving around me and my chair is bumped time and again. Second .....MENU. If you can't fulfill the menu item as described ,please say " sorry, there is a shortage of Walleye -you will only get a half portion" . On Sunday I took my significant other to Packing House for a birthday dinner celebration. For some reason, when asked what he wanted for his special dinner, out of the depths of his memory came "The Packing House". He had no memory of being there, just having heard of it. I had been there but remembered it as "old" and "stuffy". It wasn't either of those things! The art work on the wall did remind me of what I had on my walls in my first apartment in 1977 but that wasn't going to be my basis for the review. It was clean and fresh and felt a little bit welcoming. The hostess walked us to our table and small talk involved the coming snow storms. It was a little annoying when she passed us with all of the incoming diners and we heard the same exact conversations. I guess more than annoying, it was humorous. It took a little while for our server to get to our table which was surprising because it was early and not busy. She did stop by to take drink orders and as I was ordering a glass of wine, my partner went to the men's room. I took the opportunity to tell the server that it was his birthday. Without waiting for me to say what I wanted, she said "well, if he doesn't order a dessert, I will bring a cup with a candle". I wasn't sure what that meant! We ordered an appetizer of Fried Eggplant. It was the best thing I ever tasted. It was very generous, non greasy, crunchy breading and served with lemons, parmesan cheese and a marinara sauce. It could actually be a meal for two people with a salad or order of soup someday. Eggplant was followed by a nice Italian Wedding soup, with a loaf of warm, right from the oven loaf of white bread. The bread was served on a cutting board with a somewhat dull knife. The warm bread is a nice touch but we would have appreciated something with a little more guts. A wheat or multi grain would have been nice. Our entrees were generous and very well prepared. I ordered the pork ribs and as promised, they fell from the bone. My partner ordered a prime rib, medium rare. It filled the entire plate and as he requested, was rare. I listened for a faint "moo" but didn't hear it. We were quite happy with the entrée's and actually each had enough to take home for a meal the next day. The birthday boy was looking at the dessert menu when the server came by. She said "dessert?" and walked away before he had a chance to answer. I was hoping to share one of the 6 items on a table card. Instead she returned with a glass containing vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and a candle. If she had given it more time, we would have ordered a real dessert and she would have gotten a bigger tip! Our entire meal was $76.00. It included as mentioned a mixed drink, a wine, an appetizer, two entrees and a free birthday item. When the out of town guests arrive on a Friday, you only have one choice: You must have a decent fish fry. And, sometimes, the whole Lakefront Brewery scene is fun and sometimes it is just too much. This past Friday, we decided to take Cousin Joel out for a true Wisco experience. We showed up without reservations at the Packing House. At 7 p.m. on a Lenten season Friday, the wait was about 30-45 minutes. We marveled at the line of cars waiting for the drive through carryout fish fry that went waaaaaaaaaaay down the block. While waiting, we enjoyed the Brandy Old Fashioneds and the cheesy crooning singer. For dinner, we all got the fish - three fried and one baked. Two were having a hard time deciding between fries or potato pancakes, so the waitress gave them some of both. The ambiance is nice, and the food was really great. I don't get to this part of town much, but for a Friday Fish Fry treat this is a solid choice. read more

This was the closest highly rated place to my hotel so I stopped in on a Thurs night. I was probably the youngest customer in the place by about 15-40yrs. Ordered the garlic stuffed bacon wrapped filet mid-rare. Came with a house salad, and side, I chose mash. The salad was fine, a little sloppy but taste wise was ok. Bread was good too. When the steak arrived, I noticed that 75% of the plate was covered with fried onion strings. A bit much. The side of mash came in a separate plate. They could have easily cut the onion strings by 2/3 and had plenty of room for the mash. The mash was pretty standard, nothing special, kinda dry with generic brown gravy on top. You could tell they used a scoop like you get in a cafeteria. The steak itself was OK. I ordered medium rare and it came out well-done on the outside and rare on the inside (cold). They certainly didn't sous-vide the steak. For a filet, it wasnt juicy at all. Not even all that tender. The stuffed garlic slivers were a bit of a waste. I thought that it would have infused garlic flavor into the meat but not at all. You only tasted it when you actually bit a piece of the garlic (which would be too much at that point). The bacon wrapping was fine. A very average to below-average steak, nothing special. I figured that dessert my salvage the meal. I got the turtle bread pudding. I am a little particular about my bread pudding, I think it should be more liquid than solid with focus on the custard vs a moist cake. The description said "spongy custard", I thought that using the custard as the noun and spongy as the adjective (vs the other way around) was a good sign but I was wrong. It tasted ok. It mentioned pecans, chocolate, and caramel. I mainly just tasted chocolate chips. No pecan flavor. The caramel seemed to just be drizzled over everything. The ice cream was just standard. A bit pricey for the quality and poor presentation. I'd expect my meal to cost about 1/3 less. I probably wouldnt come back here. If I did, I'll def order something else. Now the place does have a good atmosphere with live music. Perhaps that is the draw. read more
