We love the Palm Cottages. This was the second time we stayed there, when visiting our friends in Ashland. The motel rooms are cute - we got one with a little kitchen. Heating/AC works great. Gardens and grounds are beautiful. The salt water pool was great for a dip on a hot day. They gave us ice for our cooler for our trip home, and plastic cups to take our drinks to the pool one evening. Great place to stay, highly recommended. The prices are extremely moderate, the gardens are extensive and create a lovely sanctuary that wrap around the cabins and rooms. The saltwater swimming pool is luxurious. We've stayed several places in and around Ashland. This is by far my favorite. And you'll need to plan ahead if you want to stay here. Like REALLLY ahead. 6 months is probably not far enough ahead. And not hyperbole. Why? 1. Service. They are friendly on the phone. Friendly at the desk. Friendly when you need information.... Just Johnny-on-the-spot. 2. They get the details. There's a card on the bureau with instructions for using their free WiFi. There's a card on the bed describing the 5 (five!) different kinds of pillows they keep in the office that you can request so you get a good night's sleep. The bathroom has 3 little hand cut guest soaps in light fragrances that even I am not allergic to. Large refillable bottles of shampoo and lotion on the counter so there's not so much waste and accumulation of tiny plastic bottles of landfill. They have ice and ice buckets in the office. The ceiling fan has lights and the air conditioner works..... Details are important. 3. Fresh paint. Fresh linens. Good mattresses. Toilets that flush. This is an older property -- but the upkeep is stellar. Real wood furniture. Real hangers in the closet area. Real blow dryer in the bathroom. They have evidently just added a pool and cabanas to the original motel. 4. It's a beautifully kept property. The landscaping will roll your socks down. It's like being in a tiny rain forest. And in spite of being right on the main drag in Ashland -- our room was quiet and our sleep -- undisturbed. The decor is spare and the rooms are on the small side -- two things that go hand in hand with being an old fashioned "Motor court" -- but as a quiet and comfortable home base to enjoy Ashland and the OSF -- it can't be beat. read more

I have been travelling to the Portland area to visit family over the last few years. Every time I go, I try to stay a night in Ashland and the ONLY place I love to stay is at the Palm Cottages. They have considerate and responsive staff, lovely flowery grounds with various seating areas perfect for a quiet picnic, a sparkly salt water pool, individually and pleasantly decorated rooms that have thoughtfully gathered accouterments like local ground coffee by the coffee maker, multiple types of pillows on each bed (do you like softer or harder or body pillows), windows that open, rooms that do not smell stuffy or like cleaning agents and oh - everything is very clean. read more

After 11.5 hours driving from LA. the PALM was a delightful surprise. The room was warm, clean and well furnished. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The bathroom clean and updated. The small fridge and microwave were perfect and matched! For me the "special" touch was the locally roasted coffee provided for the coffee pot. I've stayed here on business and had a very comfortable stay, so much that I reserved a room for my family when we came for 3day weekend. Unfortunately air quality in the area was terrible due to local fires, and the play we intended to see was cancelled. As such we attempted to cancel the reservation for the night (we figured we'd drive back to our home in Sacramento, and free up a room in the community for a potential fire-displaced family). I attempted to get our money back but was rebuffed, and offered a coupon for less than half the cost of the reservation. When I complained to Mgmt they were snippy and retracted the coupon. read more

As soon as you pull into the parking lot you know The Palm cares about ambiance and experience. Reserving and checking in was a breeze. The landscape was exceptional with well-kept plants and wild flowers along pathways. There were several well-placed water fountains throughout this quaint property. The cottages were charming on the outside, the rooms clean and fresh, and the beds were comfortable- a big deal in our family. The pool was elegant as advertised. In fact, the entire pool area was gorgeous and private. No way to be viewed from the street, which made the whole experience super relaxing for me. They had four cabanas, a large dining table, lounge chairs everywhere and plenty of towels! Searching my mind for any improvements that could be made overall, the clothing storage was minimal. We could have used luggage stands to lay our suitcases on, but I didn't think to ask. Also, the kids couldn't get the TV to work, which I didn't mind at all. We all have our devices so the whining was at a minimum and we didn't pursue the TV situation- so it may had been an easy fix. We spent most of our time swimming anyway. The place overall was beautiful, calming and peaceful. We will remember The Palm Cottages in Ashland for the next time we are in the area. Delightful experience! read more

Loved my stay at The Palm in Ashland. Due to a very tight schedule I was there less than 15 hours..... Mini Cooper MTTS 2018 road rally. I wish I could have stayed longer. But even in the short time I was there the staff made a favorable impression. Very helpful! The room was nice and had a kitchenette. Bathroom was small. The property itself is in a great location and is beautifully landscaped with love!! The pool and cabana area looked great and I wish I could have stayed to enjoy it! Next time!!! read more

"Character is what you are in the dark." Sadly, I think our most recent visit to the Palm will have been our last. Though we were pleased with our earlier visits, the level of service simply didn't measure up this time around and it's left us with a bad taste in our mouths and the desired to take our business elsewhere. First, we had to reschedule our visit after they refused to give us a refund when we were forced to cancel due to the hazardous air quality in the area following some fires in the region. After several back-and-forth calls, we finally agreed upon applying our deposit to a future visit in the garden cottage and verbally confirmed that our two-year-old son would be welcome to stay with us in there. Less than 24 hours before our visit, they changed their minds, downgraded our room, made us move midway through the visit, and refused to discount our stay. The first two nights were okay - we still had two "rooms" and a kitchen area. During our last night, however, the room didn't even have the kitchen area that was promised, the bathtub faucet wasn't securely attached to the wall, and the wobbly glass coffee table certainly didn't seem like it was any safer than the forbidden garden cottage. Mind you, we were still being charged the garden cottage rate. After voicing our displeasure, we were promised a call from the manager, but that call never came. We received a brief email offering us a $20 discount...on our next stay. That stay won't be happening. If you're childfree, 100% sure you won't have to cancel or reschedule your visit, and okay with your room being downgraded while you pay the rate for the higher-quality room, I can recommend the Palm. If you expect better service, go elsewhere. read more

We booked through Expedia and my partner did not put our 10 month old son. When I called, I found out they don't allow children in the room we had and they had no other rooms that night. So I called Expedia and canceled the room but the manager at the Palm said he would not sign the waiver for a refund. They rebooked the room but "at a lower price" so they did not refund us. I was offered a voucher for less than what I paid for the initial room so I accepted that. My experience with the staff here was very disappointing and quite condescending. Looking at previous reviews, I see I am not alone in this. Honestly, save your money, and go to Ashland Springs or Ashland Hills hotel for a much better experience and to actually get your money's worth. read more

If there was a less than one star option I would use that. My daughters purchased a Gift Card from the Columbia Hotel and its sister facility the Palm Cottages in Ashland. They also purchased a Gift Card for the Brickroom restaurant. After having to wait months until the COVID epidemic had waned somewhat, we decided to use our Gift cards for a three-day holiday in Ashland. We made arrangements for our animals, took off work and made reservations at the Palm Cottages for two nights. This was the first glimpse of the inconsideration of the owners of the Palm Cottages. They would not honor the Gift Card we had for their business, with the excuse that they were the new owners. That type of current liability would have been included in the negotiations of the purchase of the establishment and should have been honored. It was not. I went ahead and paid for the rooms with a credit card, and thought nothing more of it, until the day before our trip. My wife started experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms a couple of days before, so we decided, out of an abundance of caution, not to spread a deadly virus to the other guests at the hotel, the restaurants, the shops downtown and the local wineries we planned on visiting, we canceled our trip and attempted to cancel our reservations. The General Manager refused to give us a credit, after refusing to honor our gift card, or issue us another gift card to use at our convenience. She did, however, offer to move our reservation to a future date if we came up with a specific date that day. We did not have a date in mind, so we chose not to pick a date out of the hat, so we are out $287 on our credit card, my daughters' $125 gift card, and the sour taste of Ashland hospitality in my mouth that will take a long time to remove. read more

If you change your reservation even by a day, they will charge you $30. I stayed here one night on a drive from Seattle to SF. It was charming, and there were a few thoughtful touches, but a few misses. I appreciated the fresh flowers in a bud vase, the nice soap in the bathroom, and even that the selection of tea and coffee in the room was better than average. What I would have preferred to all of those would be having comfortable pillows. The pillows were thin and looked old, like something my parents had growing up that predated my existence. They were not comfy, so I ended up grabbing a pillow from my car. While my room had a kitchenette, it was outfitted with a random assortment of dishware and flatware that felt like it came from Goodwill. It was cheap, not chic. At least the check-in process was smooth, and the staff person was friendly. This place is probably really nice in the spring and summer, when you get to enjoy the gardens and pool. In the winter, this is an OK place to stay, but not a great one. read more

Now we have had to cancel all due to illness and are surprised to hear about the $15 and $20 fees for reservation changes. Lessons learned: remember the value of a free-change reservation service like Expedia, make sure the Palm is where you want to stay when you make a reservation, make sure you know which room you want, and don't get sick if you can help it... read more

We stayed at the Palm Cottages a few years back and awarded it a 5-star rating. The lovely English cottage-garden landscaping, fountains and outdoor sitting spaces are charming and well-maintained. The salt-water pool area is lovely and unique. The location is a 20 minute walk to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Theaters. However, this time, back in the heart of Shakespeare country, me thinks the praise has a gone a little to their heads. The pool area is still lovely and adult-feeling. However, rental rates for the four cabana areas (8 total chaises out of the 16 in the whole patio area) has soared from $25 to $40. Funny, I thought we were in quaint Ashland, not the Cote d'Azur.. If you forgot your suncreen, they have $6 bottles of it for you. (Safeway is just down the street, BTW) There are no vending machines etc anywhere, but drinks are available for $1.50/2, along with morning coffee and tea in the office. Last time we sprung for a room with kitchen and it was spacious and very nice. This time (August 18-20) we paid $187/night (incl tax) for a skylit queen whose bedroom space was about 250-300 square feet max. There was one tiny drawer in one of the bedside tables to put clothes, a bunch of hangers in an alcove that awkwardly would not come off, and a small suitcase rack. We had to stuff tank tops and small items into the little magazine rack in the other bedside table. The large wall space was entirely devoid of decoration in a town filled with locally created works of art. The automatically set opening and closing skylight blind was cool, but the room felt unfinished. For one person, one night it would have been fine. For two small children staying two nights, it would have been okay, but for two adults? Functionality must come first in hotel rooms prior to charm. The bathroom included a tub was fine and reasonably sized. By contrast, The Timbers Motel, where I have also stayed, is a little farther away, lacks the charm, nice landscaping etc but has microwaves, in-room coffee machines, fridges, spacious rooms, a few morning breakfast edibles(all missing from The Palm) and okay pool area was about half the price this weekend In short, even with the lovely pool area and surroundings, The Palm seemed overpriced. Maybe they are gauging people as it is pre-eclipse weekend in Oregon? I think adding an extra 33% onto a standard room fare would be reasonable for their amenities Almost forgot to mention that they charged us $20 to cancel an accidental double-booking for one of the nights we stayed. It took the person who answered the phone about 10 seconds to cancel the extra reservation, and they charged us $20 when they knew we were repeat customers and were still going to be staying there? However, they found a clothing I left behind (in the magazine rack) and are shipping it out to me and were very nice about it, so maybe the two come out even? Sorry, we'll likely be trying somewhere else next time. read more

Feels like a real bait and switch. We booked a room for friends coming to town and wanted a nice place for them to stay. When booking the room we asked to see it but were told it wasn't possible for a verity of reasons. There was a very nice description so based on how nice the grounds look we took it at their word. Mistake! The room was very small. Furniture was embarrassing old and would be considered cheap even when new. Lamps we awkwardly mismatched one was small and tall the other was large and barley fit on the table. Fortunately my friends was smaller people otherwise they would have had difficulty sitting on the toilet which is in a small corner of the bathroom. The biggest insult was the price. More than $200 a night. By the way, this is a motel not a hotel. Be sure to look at your room before agreeing to stay. Also, the Ashland Springs Hotel is a hotel and one that I would recommend. read more

I wish I could give this place a higher rating. The staff has, to a person, been sweet and helpful. When the shower broke on our second day, they dealt with the problem quickly, even though they had to hire a plumber because their regular maintenance person was in Portland, and they left us some chocolate and wine as an apology gift (we don't drink so we gave them back the wine). The grounds are lovely. And to top it off, Morning Glory restaurant, one of the best brunch places in Ashland, is just two doors down the street. Unfortunately, the room we stayed in was substandard in too many ways. It was tiny for $130+ per night. You could smell the bathroom throughout the room, a combo of cleaning fluid and soggy toilet paper. The industrial grade carpeting was stained and worn. The laundry room was right next door and the buzzing and vibration of the machines came right through the walls. The real problem was that management did too many things in a cheeseparing way to make extra money: Our room, "Room 0," really shouldn't have been a room; it was carved out of a tiny space next to the laundry room. They hired a plumber who did a half-ass job fixing the shower, leaving inadequate water pressure and only moderately hot water. They promised us that a "substantial" discount would be applied at checkout when we complained about all the room's problems but the discount worked out to less than 6.5% of our total bill. I'm guessing that the other rooms are nicer, real rooms. But we'll never know because their false economy has cost them our business. We won't be staying here again. read more

My dad and I were driving up from Los Angeles to Seattle and stopped in Ashland, OR at the end of the first day. We had not reserved any rooms in Ashland, so we checked out several hotels/motels before choosing The Palm, but it was clearly the right choice! We booked their last room when we arrived around 6:30pm and it was delightful! Generously-proportioned and tastefully-appointed accommodations for $110/night -- we couldn't believe it! All the rooms were little cottages, and ours had 2 full bedrooms with comfortable queen beds, a full kitchen with a dining set, stove/oven, mini fridge and coffee setup, and a clean bathroom with plenty of fresh towels. The grounds were beautiful and blooming and the staff was extremely friendly and knowledgable about the Shakespeare festival. Plus, the coffee was delicious! I'm not sure why other reviewers are complaining about the price - they must have come from somewhere where accommodations are free. $110/night for this lovely 2-bedroom just about blew our minds! There is literally nothing for this price in any city of this population anywhere south of Ashland (seriously, no deals this good anywhere in CA all the way down to Mexico). Even in Ashland this was extremely well-priced, as we checked out the Ashland Springs Hotel and that was twice the price (around $210). Regardless of the price, this little gem was friendly, clean, and peerlessly charming and easily earned 5-Stars in my book. read more

Maybe my problem is that I'm in Room 0: the room is so small that there's no desk on which to sit my laptop. There's a bed and a chair, but the chair is occupied by a cute-looking teddy bear and a throw blanket. There are decorative pillows on top of the two functional pillows on my bed. Bed-and-breakfast decorative flourishes abound. This is definitely not my style. Meanwhile, on my bed was this perplexing sign: SLEEP MENU First pillow is complimentary Beyond that pillows are $2 per night. Uh-oh, I mentioned above that I had two functional pillows on my bed. Are they going to charge me an extra $2 per night? Apparently not, but the MENU continues on with a description of the add-ons you can buy for $2 per: Beautiful Down Pillow Contour Pillow MicroLoft Pillow Encompass Pillow Body Pillow (each category has a short descriptive tag). Say what? The bad: The walls are paper thin; I was kept awake last night by the snoring of someone in Room 1. My room is tiny (as I said already). The shower was the size of a phone booth. There are no tissues in the room (as far as I can determine); fortunately, I haven't been sneezing. The good: The place is kind of cute. The people in the office seem to be very nice. The owners have tried their best to upgrade what was probably a very old-fashioned down-in-the-mouth motel of the sort that you can see in old film noir movies. Yelpers like The Palm, so it must be pretty good in its category. It's a convenient place to stay if you want to visit Southern Oregon University or have meals at the Morning Glory. read more

Overcharged! After years at the Palm I am disillusioned. Sleepy, freezing Thanksgiving in Ashland is not the time to stay at the Palm anyway because the parking lot pool is closed. However the location is central so we booked two nights this past week. At the time of making the reservation in October I was surprised that the entire $141 per room was immediately charged on my card. Payment in advance, well okay. Originally it was just me & my husband but a third person tagged along on our trip so I called Linda to tell her. Linda said they have a three person limit per room and it would be $30.00 extra per night. I agreed to pay that -- $30.00 extra per room per night. We stayed in #3 -- crowded for 3 people!-- before Thanksgiving and #9--a very nice room-- after Thanks giving. I was charged $33 extra for the first room and $66 extra for the second. I just got off the phone with second desk clerk I have tried to resolve this with & explained myself very clearly. He told me I had booked a more expensive room (which was NOT true ) & totally shifted all responsibility to me. He was NOT customer service savvy. When I mentioned Yelp he actually said "we do not respond to threats" in George Bush tones. Do I really have to say good bye to the Palm and to my $30.00? Not only do I not wash my face in bed, nor use expensive eye cream as a lubricant, but the clincher is that not only was the replacement eye cream actually not identical to the one that was lost (Jonathan came so close, and was so sweet about replacing it, that I didn't think it was worth mentioning), but mine comes in a tube, not a bottle, as you say you found. So it's a world of curiosity how you found a bottle of eye cream in our bed. Regardless, even had I found the eye cream myself, Linda's appalling customer service would certainly have sent me elsewhere in future. read more

I arrived at 3 am, the heat was on, the lights were on and there were gummy bears on the pillow. This place was so cute, the court yard amazing and the green lush atmosphere of the grounds were so inviting. The room was updated, bathroom had new fixtures and the lighting was great. The front desk was friendly at check in, even though it was 3 am. They automatically check to see if I wanted a late check out! Awesome! My only suggestion would be a better bed and bedding. A pleasant surprise close by a busy roadway and about a mile from the center of town. The room was cheery, well appointed and stocked and the little sack of gumi bears was far more exciting than a mint. The folks in the office were courteous and accomodating and room entry was via a combination pad near the door. Hard to see in the dark but I could count the numbers and figure it out. Best to write the four-digits lest you forget them. The gardens were lush, opulent well-kept, freshh and abundant. There were grassy lawns with chairs secreted around the property for those spurts of quiet solitude. The pool are and pool ewre beautiful, comfy, lots of fluffy towels, shady nooks and tables and...they didn't mind Li'l Boots pandering his charms around the pool area. No traffic noise although it's on one of the busiest streets in Ashland, well lit but not intrusive at night, plenty of parking close to rooms. An informal yet somewhat elegant ambience that's welcoming way more than intimidating. I'd recommend it in a New York minute. read more

The Palm Cottages is a quaint retro motel, recently dolled up with love and care! Cottage 9 is tastefully outfitted with an eat in kitchen, bathroom and 2 bedrooms with 3 beds. We visited in March so the pool was not open, but we loved having an outdoor space to hang out in when the sun was out. The neighborhood cat strolled by a couple times to say hi and several other guest brought dogs with them. The unit was clean and well cared for and had amenities I didn't expect such as a stovetop, an ironing board and broom! The specialty tea and coffees and toiletries were very appreciated. Check in and parking is easy. The motel is across from SOU and a 20 minute walk into Ashland. All in all we were very pleased with our stay and will come again! read more

I recently spent 2 nights at the charming Palm motel in the compact-but-perfect Room #0. This place is so cute! My room was meant for one person or a couple who really, really like each other, so there wasn't a huge amount of space, but everything was well designed and super clean. It was a pleasure to come back to my room at the end of the day. Downtown is a 3 minute drive or a leisurely 15 minute walk. I took my car at night; otherwise, I enjoyed the exercise. Great coffee in the morning, beautiful grounds, very nice staff. I can't wait till my next visit. read more

Drove from Phoenix, AZ to Ashland, OR and called without reservation. It was $98 on a whim! You have your own cute little cottage type room that's very cozy. The rooms were at a perfect temperature when you arrive. The rooms didn't have any weird funky smell and were really clean. They provide hair dryer, soap, lotion, shampoo and have a skylight ceiling with blinds that Close on their own at night. And I'm not sure if it was because I was tired but their pillows were sooooooo comfortable. Sheets were soft too. I didn't have a chance to visit the pool but it looked Beautiful with cabanas and free towels open till 10. There is also a Mexican restaurant down the street that was really good! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone at any time! read more
