First, the bottle of wine is not the flavor I ordered, and they charged $65 for an $18 dollar bottle of it. Second, the shrimp cocktail was lump crab meat. Very reluctant 4 stars here. Ultimately the rating stays buoyed up by the food which is consistently good but at these prices, I'm expecting better than good. Service can be a little hit or miss as well. Definitely a better restaurant on a quiet night than on a busy night. The atmosphere is nice but contributes to a noisy hum when the place is full. I've been to The Palm numerous times and it never disappoints. It is definitely not the most creative place, but the food is so classic and well done that you can't go wrong. I got the tomato and mozzarella salad to start and it was simple and delicious. For entrees, I got the filet mignon and my bestie got the lamb chops. The meat was delicious and cooked perfectly. 9 ounces is a little more than I can handle, but oh well! I am always wary of lamb because restaurants can make it too dry, but The Palm did not go wrong! It was so juicy and tender and the mint sauce was so yummy! For dessert, we got creme brulee and a special chocolate chip cheesecake. Both were amazing. I can't write much about it because there's not alot to say. The Palm is "The Palm" for a reason and the food is just simple and classic. read more

This is another example of a place hitting it out of the ballpark when it comes to steak. My only rub is the environment. Somehow the bar is quieter than the main dining room where people think that pleasant dinner conversation is talking at the max of your spectrum (right before you start yelling). The waiters were great, the food consistent with other Palms I've eaten at, and they even let you order stuff off of the menu. I'm always a fan of the dry aged steaks - expensive yes, but the idea that the steak is more tender and a tad gamier is always a winner with me. Adds to the flavor, no? **UPDATE 11/07/07** Ok, I just got back from here and apparently they lost their license to do corkage. I wanted to rate this place 2.5 stars if I could. Way way over-rated, by not so elegant palates (sorry but true). Yes steaks are great. Lobster - overcooked. 3 out of 3 times I ordered lobster here. I've been here more than several times over the years, each time hoping it would be good/better than my last visit, or, because some of my other friends insist on going. I am REALLY disappointed. Hearing all the Junkies spots for this place, I was expecting really great things. Especially after a recent trip to Flemmings. Yes the caricatures are entertaining, but that's about it. FYI - Free Valet Parking in the front - save yourself a walk from the parking garage. Here's a breakdown of our order: Appetizers: Lobster bisque - give it a few minutes for all the flavors to "blend." At first it tasted pretty bad, but it got better towards the end, but not the best lobster bisque I've had. Shrimp wrapped scallops - This is never bad at restaurants. I ordered the 14oz filet mignon - This is primarily where my 2 star review comes from. The steak was way under cooked, and there was almost no flavor to the meat. They say that their meats are aged, but it tasted like it was bought fresh from Costco and barely had any salt and pepper on it. Very bland, not cooked to order, and ruined pretty much the entire meal. Side Dishes: Sauteed Mushrooms - very overrated, like something I would make at home Asparagus - very meh, whatever. Hash browns - I was excited to order these based on the other Yelp reviews, but it's like thickly cut potatoes mashed kind of together to make it seem like a undercooked french fry/mash. I've been here twice - for lunch and dinner; for work and for fun. Both times I was lucky enough not to have to pay, so I cannot comment on the prices. The food itself is good. I have tried the salmon and the lobster salad, both very satisfying. The customer service varies. If you appear to be at the Palm for a special occasion, you will be treated very well. Otherwise, you will have a hidden table with your group at the back of the restaurant and your waiter will check on you when he/she feels like it. I absolutely love the decor of the Palm - celebrity faces staring at you from every direction. It's unique and fun. And apparently you get your face on the wall if you come in enough. ***Restaurant Week Review**** I'm a fan of The Palm, hands down. I've heard about the Palm but I only had the pleasure of dining at The Palm for Restaurant Week. I went with my boyfriend (very glad we dressed up, it's a restaurant where I would feel under dressed in jeans but I did see people in jeans). The Palm has caricatures of different celebrities, athletes, politicians, and characters that are synonymous with American culture. You bet we got our picture taken with Batman! For Restaurant Week, The Palm offered different choices for appetizers, main course, and dessert. Even though I KNOW the Palm does a good filet, we both went with the lobster which was delicious. The staff is amazing too. They took great care of us and even cracked my lobster for me without me asking (Yes I can crack my own lobster). A *little* past the point of diminishing return price-wise (just a little, not a lot), but still not a bad night out. The Palm dishes up consistently good, well-prepared food. The good news at The Palm is that there are no suprises. The bad news at The Palm is that there are no suprises. Really, though, when it comes to eating out, suprises are usually bad . . .so, nevermind, I guess. On the salad front, try the East Coast Gigi ( shrimp, string beans, tomato, onion and bacon tossed in a vinaigrette) or the Tomato Capri (sliced tomatoes, basil and imported mozzarella di bufala), both pretty good. But the Caesar Salad? C'mon! I am embarrassed for Palm! On the steak and seafood front - - always nicely done, and as it should be, given the pricetag. Still, the crabcakes are scrumptious and well worth the $31 bucks. I had super high hopes for The Palm. I'm a huge steak lover and I've always heard great things, but for one reason or another, I've neglected visiting The Palm to feed my addiction to steak. I decided this had to change and I took my mother, stepfather, and wife out to dinner last week to celebrate my mother's birthday (she too also likes steak and has wanted to go to the Palm, so win-win). Now, a 3 star review isn't a bad thing, but for a steak house of The Palm's calibre, nothing short of 4 stars should be acceptable. Our experience was ok, but that's all it was. The quality of the food is unquestioned, but the execution was lacking. First, when we arrived the Maitre d' greeted us rather cooly, and seemed somewhat perturbed to be interrupted from his busy work to help newly arriving guests. But no big deal, could have been a bad day for him. Anyway, we're taken to our table and left with a wine list. Our waitress fails to show up for about 10 minutes. After she arrives and takes our drink orders, she disappears again for another 5 minutes (normally not that long, but the place is empty). Our drinks finally arrive and I point out that we don't have menus. The waitress apologizes and then comes back a little more than 10 minutes later with menus and then promptly leaves without telling us about the specials. We wait 5 more minutes to see her again, ask her for the specials, and order on the spot to avoid losing her again. On to the food. I ordered a bone-in ribeye, baked potato, and mushrooms for the table. The steak was decently prepared, slightly overcooked (ordered medium rare, came out more medium) and was therefore a little more dry than I would have liked. The potato was ok, a little overdone, but ok. However, the mushrooms came out at room temperature which was rather disappointing. My wife seemed to enjoy her filet, but didn't rave about it, and the dessert for the table, a massive piece of chocolate cake, tasted like a normal slice of chocolate cake. And drinks? Too often they sat empty for too long. Between the sub-par service and ok food, The Palm earns a 3 star review. The food, if prepared correctly, would warrant the high price, but the poor execution and service at this location made me wish we had gone to Morton's or Charlie Palmer's. Went here on a double date two weeks ago with zero knowledge of the restaurant (Thursday night). First impression was the dim lit bar with 4 guys per table with worn suits and tall drinks, maybe left over's from the happy hour. My bartender was the one down fall to the night, he was short tempered and borderline rude. His drinks were stiff and my wife's raspberry martini was well done. I ordered the filet, half a 3 pound lobster, lobster bisque and a peanut butter cake. The bisque was well seasoned and a great temperature. The filet..... Oh the filet was well done. Perfectly cooked. The 3 pound lobster with butter was a complete crowd pleaser and dissolved into the table rapidly. The wine menu was well versed. The night was completed by a peanut butter cake and a great cup of coffee. If not for the bartender it would have been a 5 star evening. read more

I recently came here for a work event and the entire restaurant was closed off for the occasion. I just have to say the staff here are amazing - so attentive, always bringing by hors d'oeuvre and wine whenever you're running low. The waiter at our table was awesome! This restaurant also has the biggest shrimp I have ever seen, and it's delicious. I also enjoyed their crab cakes. For dinner, I had the Caprese Salad, Surf and Turf, and Key Lime Pie for dessert. Went here on a Thursday evening for a work celebration, and it was amazing. I went home and told my boyfriend that this was easily the second best meal that I have had in my life (it's hard to top a lunch I had in Mexico back in college with a state governor!) The meal, the wine, the service, everything was amazing! Our host ordered an appetizer of the "hot and cold," something that is not on the menu. The waiter brought out several plates of the "hot" (which was bacon wrapped scallops, calamari, and shrimp) and the "cold" (which was seared ahi tuna, seaweed salad, ginger, and lump crab). AMAZING! I couldn't get over how fantastic that tuna was! It was seared to perfection, and required no seasoning because the quality of it was so amazing. I wish I had ordered it for my dinner, but wanted to explore the menu more (regretting that now, because I should have known that nothing could have topped that). I'm usually a white wine drinker, but as soon as I got a taste of the red I quickly changed course and moved to red. It was fantastic, not too heavy or bold, but had a nice flavor that paired well with basically anything we had. I ordered the chicken parmigiana for dinner, since it was listed as one of their specialties. It was HUGE, and I was only able to eat about 1/5 of it. Everyone's food looked amazing though, from the lobster (which one of the waitstaff disassembled for our coworker, which was amazing to watch), to the steaks, to the salads. All fresh, perfectly cooked, just amazing. Want to go back ASAP We didn't get dessert, sadly. The main guy at the table said he didn't want any, so I think that took it off the books for everyone else. Better that way though, there was already so much food! The service was also impeccable. The wait staff was accommodating and respectful, particularly when all of us were talking so much that we didn't have a chance to look at the menu or touch our food yet. Went here for a continuing education credit. Wouldn't pay this much for food unless I was in a fancy locale on vacation. I will never pay more than $100 for two locally. No way, Jose. Loved the setting and atmosphere. Very lively with a lot of people when we went past the main dining area. I for one love the loud acoustics of the room. Something about the place with all the people and chatter was electrifying and exciting. We were in a private room. My filet mignon was great. 2nd time I have ever had filet mignon in my life. Went here for DC restaurant week. It was just ok. Between my group (which was ~10 people), we ordered all the options minus the chicken. Now I'm really curious what the chicken would have been like. I got the crabcake, which was tasty-- but the mango pairing threw me off a bit. The lobster is just that-- a giant red lobster. Kind of looked like a really big bug. And I'm pretty sure one our party's lobsters was still twitching on his plate even though it was bright red. Service was great. Kind of stuffy atmosphere, though. read more

Went last Sunday with wife and friends for their summer lobster deal for two.We ordered the Nova Scotia caught Five pounder for a small extra charge ( $99 deal with two sides comes with four pounder). Though usually eat lobster steamed, their lightly baked preparation is a delicious change and was not disappointed. It was a great feast; brought one of the massive claws home to have cold the next night as a quasi salad with mayo and lemon. The Palm breads and large sides are always delicious with the usual excellent service. The only negative is they should stop the use of the overly expensive one serving splits size coke bottle and serve soda on tap with unlimited refills like most restaurants these days; or at the least, use a standard 12 ounce size bottle. read more

Restaurant week came to the Tyson's Corner area, and today I decided to check out what the Palm had to offer. I had been there only once before. It's a nice upscale restaurant and bar and I take advantage of every special or promotion they do. Since it was restaurant week, it was much busier than the last time I was there. To make things easy for myself, I just took a seat at the bar. Since I had already predetermined what I was going to eat ordering was a cinch. The deal was $20.12 for a three course meal with one side. Pre-meal: Every patron receives a bread basket with butter. They give you rye, wheat and raisin. Course One: Caesar Salad. Nothing to really boast about here. It was a decent salad. Well, it was good but not certainly something I would consider a staple but serves it's purpose. Main Course: Lobster BLT. This was a very good sandwich. I was not sure if they would serve the lobster in big chunks or diced fined. The lobster was prepared as the latter and whatever sauce they had on it was absolutely delicious. I would give this sandwich a 8/10. For me, the bread was toasted a tad too much. Other than that I was completely satisfied. Side Course: Vegetable of the Day - Steamed Broccoli Dessert: A large New York Cheesecake. I am sad to say that I did not finish it. The law firm lunchroom isn't really my ideal ambiance but the service and food was impeccable! So glad we made reservations because it was packed even for a casual Wednesday lunch. With the large group luncheons and business chatter, this place really starts buzzing. Which is why I really commend them on their service...yes, packed but the server really took his time with us. All their attitudes are just something else...very gracious, very "customer-oriented." I ordered from the business lunch menu- crab and artichoke soup and a 10 oz. Ny steak. Enjoyed both of them! The steak was really tender...definitely didn't need to "use some elbow grease" like my dad loves to say when I can't cut my meat. I like the brandy peppercorn rub on it too, very simply seasoned. Even though mine was great, I couldn't help eyeing my friend's Lobster Cobb salad after I tried a bite. I think I know what I'm ordering next time :) read more

I have been to this Palm a number of times and usually the food comes out right and the service is good. For what they charge the food and service should be better then Outback. The steaks came out way under cooked and then our waiter was no where to be found. By time he showed up we were frustrated and stuck with the bill. My husband and I decided to try The Palm - Tysons during restaurant week earlier this year. It was listed as a participating restaurant, so we chose to visit for dinner on January 19. Once there and seated, I asked about the restaurant week specials. I was told, to my amazement, that the Tysons restaurant was not participating, and that the restaurant had been published in error. Nothing more was said. There was no offer of a discount, a free appetizer or dessert. Instead of leaving, we stayed and spent about $ 200.00. I tried unsuccessfully to contact the parent company, to no avail. I am extremely disappointed in The Palm and will never return. Communication is paramount with businesses and The Palm failed miserably in that arena. I did send the manager an email which was answered. The manager reinforced the message that there was an error in including The Palm - Tysons in the Virginia restaurant week specials. I would never have written this review if my complaint had been properly addressed to my satisfaction. read more

Golden Corral quality food with Chili's quality wait staff. We staying at the Ritz-Carlton next store and thought I would try The Palm. In short, it epitomizes everything wrong with chain "Fine" dining. The brussel sprouts were cold and without taste. Te mushrooms were cold. The "prime" steak was not trimmed, so probably 4-5 ounces of the 14 ounce "prime" New York strip were fat and gristle. The meat was "Chewy", not even closed what one expects of a prime NYS. It was on par with what one expects of a "Select" cut of beef. I would never, ever eat a The Palm again. read more
