The Palm has what you expect - a delicious filet mignon steak, so very tender. Wonderful, fine cut of meat perfectly prepared. I could eat all the breads all day, they are moist and flavorful without being over-designed and too chewy like so many places trying to hard to be healthy. Waitress was very helpful and friendly, the host was cold. If you're not a regular you don't get a smile. The Caesar salad was ho-hum, just some lettuce thrown on a plate with cheese, with croutons that were hard (just get some Cardini's next time). No dressing, no explanation why. But the problem was no mashed potatoes. Really? A classic steak place that has no mashed potatoes? Or baked potatoes? I asked why not, and the server said 'the kitchen staff won't do them in the morning." Well. If you're going to cook a steak, you need to have mashed potatoes. The kitchen staff is there to cook, and if they choose to be a steakhouse, they should have mashed potatoes, not just some fancy three-cheese goeyness. I am a third-generation Washingtonian. I have been going to Palm restaurants since I was two years old and; this evening's dinner was the worst dinner I have ever had! When I walked in the door of the palm the person who is supposed to greet you is standing there but he didn't say two words to me Very arrogant in his demeanor... Once we sat down our waiter was very personable and provided good service. The food on the other hand was terrible... nothing had salt or any seasoning for that matter and when I mean nothing not the appetizers not the dinners not the sides... Nothing! The leaves of my salad were swimming in salad dressing to the point where I couldn't even eat it and my all-time favorite side, the cream spinach, it was all nutmeg zero salt or salt-and-pepper. Even the lobster was marginal... My advice to you go to palm DC not palm Tysons. Palm DC offers exceptional food, exceptional service and has a wonderful ambience unlike this Palm read more

I absolutely love this place and my husband and I visit it as our annual anniversary restaurant. We both ALWAYS order the Prime Bone-In Rib-Eye Steak 24 ounce. We rarely eat red meat throughout the year...just occasionally. However, during our "Palm" visit, we order the same thing and it is absolutely marvelous. We always recommend this restaurant to family and friends and on special occasions besides our anniversary may visit. The service is wonderful as well. read more

We came for our daughters 12th birthday as well as celebrating thanksgiving. We were so excited to dine at The Palm and the beginning of our experience was great. We came in on time for our reservation and the front desk staff had our table ready for us. They asked to check our coats and were extremely pleasant when they took our coats and walked us to our table. Unfortunately, our great experience ended here. We were greeted by our server a few minutes after we sat who gave us menus as well as the thanksgiving menu. We were ready to order our drinks (we came with our 5 children ages 18-5) who were thirsty and ready for a drink! The server would not take our drink order when he dropped the menus because "he was too busy with another table". Fast forward to 10 minutes later when he finally came back and at this point we are thirsty, extremely hungry, and ready to order! He took our drink order and when my husband said we were ready to order our food he told us to hold on because he had another table. We were sat at 3:00pm and by this point it is 3:20 with no drinks, no bread, and haven't placed our order. I'm sure you can imagine our frustration! The table our server went to go take care of was sat after us, had their drinks, and he was taking their order! By the time the server came back to take our order (prompted by me flagging down others servers) we ordered our entire dinner and told him to just put in the whole order so it would all come out together. That didn't happen...I had to walk to the front desk to ask for refills, I had to flag down a manager to ask for bread, and the server brought our soup and salad at 4:10pm...an hour and ten minutes after we had been sat! The quality of food was okay, I think they struggled on the thanksgiving day soups but everything we ordered off the regular dinner menu was tasty. Everyone around us got food before us that was sat after us and nobody seemed to care. We will not return! Horrible experience for a special dinner. read more

I've never had this problem at the Dupont Circle Palm, or for that matter any decent restaurant, but I think I got such poor service at this Palm because I was a woman dining alone. My husband bailed on our dinner reservations, but as I have loved their lobster I wasn't about to miss their summer specials. When I arrived alone, though, I was seated at the table nearest the kitchen/restrooms, got the bread heels in my basket, tough perhaps hothouse tomatoes in my caprese salad, and my medium rare steak showed up tough and well-done. I hadn't bothered to complain up until then, but as an 837 club member I got tired of it by the end of dinner, and sent word to the chef that he ought to pay closer attention to his steaks, as mine was too tough to take home the half I hadn't eaten. I got a very understated semi-apology, and what I think might have been an offer for a free dessert (worded so vaguely I'm not sure, but I wasn't hungry enough to have it), but nothing taken off the bill, and really hardly any sense that they considered it a problem. My husband had just eaten there -- alone -- 2 weeks earlier, and had a different experience, but since I'm the one who drives the decision to dine out most of the time, that will be the last time either of us eat at the Palm. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that I won't return to the Dupont one either, and will stick to Peter Luger up in New York. So to someone reading this: you might have a grand time here if you're a man, or with friends etc, but you can do a lot better if you're a woman, and if you feel such shabby service to anyone doesn't deserve your patronage, those of us insulted by it would be well served:) read more

Too many positive things to say about here. The waiters are fantastic, we go every Sunday night for an early dinner. They're always so pleasant and attentive. The bread is so yummy- always a great start. They have great mixed drinks, especially their Manhattan. Great wine selection list as well. Their caesar is the best I've ever had. I like to order extra dressing on the side. The bacon wrapped scallops are fantastic as well. You can't go wrong with anything. I then like to get the huge steak they then cut at your table- very nice for a family. And then a big lobster to share as well. The warm donut holes are always a nice way to end the meal, or the carrot cake- absolutely amazing. When it comes down to it you cannot go wrong everything is absolutely fantastic- my mouth is watering just writing this! I recommend becoming a member of the club they offer they send out promotions as well as a $50 gift card for every time you hit a certain dollar amount. And with the membership you can even get your picture painted on the wall. read more

I thought I was dreaming and woke up in the Georgetown Alumni House. The caricatures looked just like those on 36th Street--Rob Andrews would be proud! We had a great Georgetown gathering at the Palm Tyson's Corner with a lobster feast--4 pound Nova Scotia lobsters. My lobster was steamed to perfection, and even pre-cracked cleanly for me. Emeril Lagasse would have been proud of the way they were prepared. Indeed I love my lobsters steamed as opposed to broiled. I had a wonderful Caesar's salad with some great sides--creamed spinach, asparagus, hash brown potatoes, and mushrooms. The mushrooms, and hash browns were truly wonderful. The staff and service were much better than at other Palm restaurants I have visited. Indeed I have not had a lobster of this quality since being at Emeril Lagasse's Table Ten. For dessert I had some cheesecake, and key lime pie that were outstanding. Thanks to Dr JC for arranging this great meal. I cannot wait for my second trip next year to a Hoya Lobster Feast! This is a great Palm Restaurant. I have been there more than a half dozen times, with business guests and friends. The steak, lobster and sides are all just like you would and should expect fromt the Palm--perfectly made, outstandingly large portions, and always done right. The service is nicer than other Plams--alomst too bad; I miss some of the NY edge. I have had the steaks and the lobster, the fish, and the desserts. The food is fantastic. read more

My family likes to have birthday celebrations here which are usually during the work day. So once again we ate at the Palm yesterday and had the Businessman's lunch which is a three course meal. I had the cesar salad which was plain disgusting. They dumped the salad dressing on the leaves, there were several leaves that had huge hunks of the dressing which looked like mayonnaise and tasted as well. I asked for the fish of the day with the sauce on the side, remember last time they brought fish out drenched in butter. Well, they did the exact same time only the also brought me a bowl with extra butter sauce. The waiter snoockered my elderly mother into siging up for their special club and failed to read her the fine print which basically ripped her off for $25. He really pushed it by mentioning you get a lobster on your birthday but failed to explain that you''ll have had to drop something like $1K to amass enough points to get the lobster on your birthday. We totally got had by the waiter, and the food was quite frankly disgusting. read more

This was the second visit to the Palm for us. The Palm is having a featured special Lobster Tail dinner (4,5, and 6 pounds). After talking with our waiter Wayne (professional, congenial and all around great guy) we decided on the 5lb lobster to be split between the two of us. We had a mixed green salad and a Cesear salad to start which were good (not great), followed by huge platters of split and broiled lobster which were cracked and de-shelled (mostly the claws) by one of the waitstaff. The lobster was prepared to perfection. Moist and succulent with no unnecessary stuffing. Our side dish was sauteed spinach (in olive oil and garlic), again no frills just delicious. We also had an order of hash browns which were massive (too large a serving size in my opinion). With a couple of glasses of wine (try the Kim Crawford with the seafood, great match), our dinner was great. Add the fact that the Palm has complimentary appetizers on Wednesday for the employees in their building which they readily share with patrons, and you have an evening out well worth the trip. Let me start by saying our servers were great. They name Matthew is on our tab and there was a great lady with shoulder length blond hair helping too but that was about all that was good last night. We sat down and it was my nest friends first experience eating at the palm. We wanted to do the summer lobster special so she could try the lobster I so often rave about. We were convinced to add some extra lbs to our lobster and ended up with a 6 pounder. Sounded like a good idea at the time but the claw meat was tough and it was actually the worst lobster I'd ever had. With three of us trying it no one would eat the meat on the "big claw". The second major issue with the meal was that I had a bug in my salad. It was plain as day sitting on my piece of mozzarella. I tried to convince myself I was seeing something but nope, it had legs on both sides and it was definitively a bug (wish I had a picture for you all to see). The waiter whisked it away and brought me another salad. It was hard to keep eating that salad after that. The manager briefly (let me stress briefly) stopped by and then said he would give us a free dessert. Dessert?? Are you kidding me?? I had a bug in my food. That hardly made up for it. If we were at another restaurant of this caliber the manager would have done a lot more and come by more often. When the key lime pie came out it had a blueberry compote all over it and after the bug we just couldn't eat it thinking another critter might be hanging out in there. The crust was also falling off and it just wasn't appealing. Finally to make the experience even worse I didn't get all my leftover sides. So the potatoes that I asked to have boxed up didn't make it in to the bag. )o: All in all the wait staff service was great. The manager was lacking. My food had a bug in it. I understand that the Palm has a reputation, however, I still was only mildly impressed. Here's why - the food is wonderful and the service is great, but there were four of us out to dinner, and I could only converse with the person next to me because it's so loud! It was a Saturday night, so I understand they are busy, but for the price of a meal, I just don't understand why its so noisy. If you still want to try it, I had the Nova Scotia lobster and it was cooked perfectly absolutely to die for. The wine selection is great as well, just not recommended for a date or on a busy night like Saturday. read more

Underwhelmed. This is my least favorite Palm restaurant that I've been to. The restaurant was very loud, the tables are too close together, and the service was annoying. I felt like another warm body at a table that they wanted to turn over quickly. It seemed like waitstaff and management just cared about jacking up the bill. I ordered the $54 Chilean Sea Bass Nathaniel that included a $15 upcharge from their regular sea bass. The lump crab added to the sea bass tasted like it had too much wine on it and there was no flavor whatsoever with the sea bass. The two shrimp pieces on the fish were good. My husband liked his filet mignon. The soda we ordered tasted flat and the cocktail didn't seem to have much alcohol in it. We spent a lot of money for a nice evening out but it wasn't quite up to par with the other chain fine steak restaurants like Ruth's Chris which is a lot closer to us. I do not recommend this place for a romantic date, wining and dining clients, or for entertaining guests from out of town. If you are looking for an intimate setting where you can hold a conversation with your fellow diners, I would go elsewhere. Stay away from the seafood dishes and go for the staples like steak. read more

How good was this place? Well, I was pretty stoked to be invited, and have had some good runs with steakhouses next to really nice hotels, so I had really high expectations of this place. I was joining some friends who were here for a birthday celebration, and I arrived just as they were paying their checks at the bar and being escorted to their private dining room that was perfectly accommodating for 12 people. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, which is pretty much the standard for places like this, so no surprise there. The food was unbelievably good. I ordered the salmon, although my eye was actually looking at the pasta (I knew better than to waste my Palm experience on having the pasta, although I've heard it is also delicious). The salmon was hands-down the best salmon that I've had at a restaurant, and I'd even go as far as claiming the best fish that I have eaten at a restaurant (I know that you might be thinking that I should have gotten steak, but my logic was that everyone would get steak and I would get to try steak even if I didn't order my own - and I was correct). Family portions of side dishes also made their way to the table and were succulent, as well. Brussel sprouts, creamed spinach, and two types of potatoes were enjoyed by all (there were also mushrooms, but I don't care who is cooking those - I won't enjoy them). I would definitely come back here - and the next time, I'm getting the pasta...and a steak! read more

I've eaten many, many times at The Palm locations in Houston and DC, and my only negative experience was at The Palm Tyson's Corner. I ordered a four pound lobster, was assured that they had one, yet the one I received was very visibly under four pounds. This was further corroborated by the fact that a four pound lobster leaves me very full and with plenty to share, while with this lobster I was still hungry after eating it. Additionally, it came out burnt, which severely altered the flavor in all but the claws. Afterwards, I had to wait and wait and ask for lemon and a warm towel to clean my hands. Every other time I've eaten lobster at The Palm, which has been every time I've been to The Palm, they always bring it out promptly without asking. The waiter was thoroughly inattentive to us, yet very attentive to his other tables. Perhaps this was because we were the youngest people there, and thus not taken as seriously. This was by far the worst lobster ever I've ever had, the worst Palm experience I've ever had, and we will only be patronizing the DC location from now on. read more

This has to be the worst Palm in America and I've been to over a dozen on their restaurants. First of all the lady that wrote about the bartenders was 100% correct. The Manhatten was served with a foam on top like a Ramos Fizz. What good bartender shakes the hell out of a Manhatten instead of swirling. Ordered a Sidecar and got the remark...Wow, only people your age know that drink.... Really? I have to get put down for ordering a classic cocktail??? The dinner was as follows: Shrinp Cocktail 5 stars Caesar salad 1 star. Romain wasn't cold and crisp. The salad had no flavor of anchovy and salad was probably 1/3 tasteless croutons. Crabcakes 4 stars Lobster 4 stars. The service was ok, but when my wife was trying to use the lobster pliers on the lobster a guy came over and said why do they give you people these things, they're useless on 3 lb lobsters. He took of getting the meat out which was nice, but a little brusque. The best part was when one of the buss people came by and saw meat in the shell and remarked...You've never eaten lobster before have you?....I then started thinking, why did I come here to get insults to myself or my wife. The service was aldo very rushed, there was no time between courses as asked. I guess when you need to turn tables over and you have people lined up waiting that this is what happens. No one greeted us at the door...we found them, coat check service but no one to help take your coat off or hang it up or get it when we left, wait staff tapping you on the shoulder to take an order, no festive drinks to offer or suggest, drink order were mixed up, dinner orders were mixed up (wait staff coming to the table asking who had what, with that kind of service the food doesn't make any difference (my $80 lobster was tepid at best), go to the ladies room and find the waste basket overflowing on the floor and no toilet paper...take your money to another restaurant. read more

A nice restaurant experience. We had the 4lb lobster special, that included salad, lobster and a side. The salads were generous, lobster was well prepared, meaty and excellent, and the side of steamed asparagus was generous and excellent. The waiters were professional, and did not rush us. I had to deduct two stars due to the frigid tempratures. We arrived at 6:00 pm and the restaurant was comfortable, not overly warm, but it was not chilly. By the time we ordered dessert and the restaurant had filled up, we were downright chilly, and when we finished paying the bill we were plum COLD. Someone must have turned down the temperature during the course of our meal. I made a trip to the rest room and it was so cold in there I hated the fact that I had to unzip to relieve my self due to the freezing temperature!! We were expereinceing the coldest January on record, expecting a nice cozy meal, however by the time it was finished we might as well have been sitting outside on a snow bank. They should have gotten a hint when I had them retrieve my Mother's mink from the coat check to keep her warm. An otherwise enjoyable meal was spoiled by some miserly cost cutting manager that turned the heat far too low. read more

The only reason I dined here was because I had a gift card from work. I went for dinner on my birthday, first timer. The restaurant didn't look as fancy as I thought for a four dollar sign rated rest. The lights were dim and the walls are covered with drawings of celebrities, which I thought was pretty cool and interesting to look at all the faces and names and dates on the walls. Our waiter was very kind and knew the menu very well. I ordered the 14 oz NY Strip and we got a side of fries and mashed potatoes, which were family styled. My steak tasted good, but tasted better when I put some pepper on it. The meat itself was cooked well, but I think it wasn't worth the price. I've tasted better steaks in other restaurants with like half the price. The got a bite of the ribeye and that was really good. The french fries had parm cheese on it, which made it more flavorful, but still not like the best I've tasted especially for the price. We got too full to order dessert, but the waiter was kind enough to bring me a cup of whipped cream and a candle for my birthday, which was thoughtful of him. Overall, it was a regular dining experience for me with just higher prices. I was actually expecting service like the one I had in Philly at Davios, which was like 5 star service. read more

I went to the Palm for a business dinner and let's just say I'm glad I wasn't picking up the tab. I mean overall the food was good but I just expect everything to be topnotch for what you pay there. I had some calamari for an app and it was just ok. It was cooked very well however it lacked seasoning and the breading was a little mealy. I also had a caesar salad which was kind of a disappointment. The dressing tasting like it came out of a bottle and the parmesan cheese looked as if it has been shaken from a can and no anchovies. I think the caeser at Bone Fish is better. For my entree I had a sea bass special and this was really excellent. It was a very thick cut and cooked just right and it came with mushrooms and tomatoes and we well balances. One of the sides I had was the mashed potatoes with goat cheese which was really rich but did taste really good. My favorite steak is a rib-eye and one of my colleagues ordered one and it was one of the thinnest rib-eyes I've seen. He said it was good but that he'd had better. The service was really good and the ambiance is really nice. Definitely good for a power dinner/lunch but not so much if you are all about the food. read more

Went here July 6, 2012. Great experience, would highly recommend this place. Manager Nicole was awesome. Our server Wade was hilarious and made our anniversary dinner memorable. I ordered the bone-in rib-eye, which was so big, I ended up taking half home. The steak was also great after reheating the next day, just as delicious as when it was served at the Palm. Was attending an event last night at the Ritz in Tysons so a few of us decided to grab a pre-drink or two at the Palm bar. A booth was open so we sat down; the first round of drinks arrived relatively quickly but the second round took almost 10 minutes. Then paying the bill took another 5-10. Wouldn't normally be an issue for me but we only had about 30 minutes to play with, total. Our waiter was exceptionally friendly so maybe the hold-up was at the bar? It's hard to be upset as happy hour means 50% off the tab. Not too shabby. read more

Admittedly we don't often dine in places in this price range but for a special occasion we did. Generally, the service and ala carte food (filet mignon, NY strip, salmon and sea bass) were all good but at steep prices. Steaks were under cooked but that was fixed with apologies. At this level, my wife did not like or eat the brown fringes on a few of her salad leaves. While the steaks started at $47 for very good cuts but then even sauces are extra. Sea bass was probably the best dish we had. Desserts are huge, especially the 'small' carrot cake which was more than us 2 could eat. The dining room was fairly quiet but as more guests arrived then it approached noisy. All in all, this was a nice dining experience but considering the cost effectiveness, I can't rate more than a 4. We left with the definite impression that it was not a good value. read more

This was the restaurant my wife and I chose for our night out. The Palm is pricey as any high end steakhouse will be, but we had a gift card and grandparents babysitting, so we wanted to enjoy ourselves. The restaurant delivered. The food was excellent, they have a nice wine list, the wait staff was attentive without being overbearing. It will be relegated to special occasion dining, but it is certainly worth the trip. read more

I'm prejudiced. I started with the Palm on 2nd Avenue in New York and have sampled others from Miami to LA. I've watched their menu grow as it skipped over the fear of red meat a few decades ago, and I'm still a fan of its quality, service, atmosphere, and even its range. The Monday Night Salad finally got on the menu after living as a requested special for years. The roast beef shows up on Fridays. Lyonnaise potatoes vanished. Key Lime pie now comes with a raspberry topping --- removable by request. But the meat goes on! This is not a chef-driven home for exotic spices and frou-frou veggies. It's a very male hangout for holdouts. Big lobsters, steaks, Italian specialties served efficiently in a dark wood room filled with like-minded throwbacks filling up on the forbidden. Visited the Palm for Restaurant Week lunch today with my co-workers (total of 8 people) and was extremely disappointed in the experience. To start, we were offered water but no other beverages except for wine. I had to beg for an iced tea. There was a delay in ordering and once we began to order, we were told that the Restaurant Week menu was printed incorrectly, and that the steak option was different - this is the type of thing that should be pointed out in advance of reviewing the menu. When our orders arrived, 3 out of 8 of the entrees were incorrect (steaks cooked improperly). Two of the three steaks were returned and on the second attempt one of the two came out incorrectly (cooked improperly and with sauce on top instead of without as had been specified twice). Also, a side order of brussel sprouts never appeared. The waiter had the audacity to blame the food runner quite loudly for the confusion (it was his second day, etc, etc). My feeling is that a waiter should take accountability for his table. One of my co-workers never had a chance to eat her entree and had to have it boxed up to go home - we were told it would be free. The bill arrived and there was in fact a credit for one meal. HOWEVER, we were charged for 9 entrees instead of 8 for the 8 people who dined. I'm not sure if this was an honest oversight or if they were hoping we wouldn't read the bill carefully, but it was certainly suspicious. The bill was corrected once the "error" was pointed out. All and all, a definite shame. The folks who were able to eat their meals all agreed their food was good, but the poor service ruined the experience. I have to say, I was very disappointed with the food served for restaurant week. I have been waiting to try The Palm for a while and thought I would take advantage of restaurant week. Big mistake! I ordered the lamb chops offered with "tabbouleh " which was more like a couscous, flat bread and tahzeki sauce. Lamb chops were loin chops...ok, they were cooked nicely, the rest of the plate was terrible. The tabbouleh was made with dried herbs and tasted horrid...tahzeki sauce was flavorless and the flat bread tasted sweet...my son ordered the chicken parm.....another Big Mistake! The cutlet was dry, the sauce was very acidic. It was just terrible. I understand their specialty is steaks but if you ask me , restaurant week is there to give you the opportunity to taste what a restaurant has to offer. It's obvious this restaurant doesn't want to be bothered with getting new customers through restaurant week. read more
