I've been here two times so far in the past week because I wanted to take advantage of their groupon deal while it was still up. The first time I went, my massage therapist was a friendly gentlemen named James. He was very polite and used just the right amount of pressure and consistently asked me if it was okay or not. It was gentle but firm, and he focused on all my knots and tight areas. Needless to say I tipped him generously and was looking forward to coming back.
I told my boyfriend about this place and he needed a massage too so we booked a couples massage over the phone yesterday. The only availability they had was within the next hour so we hurriedly rushed to get there on time.
My foot massage was bleh. We had female therapists this time - my boyfriend enjoyed his massage but mine wasn't as enjoyable as I was hoping to be. First of all she wore gloves while massaging my feet. I get it - some people don't like touching feet. But the feeling of rubber stroking down my legs was slightly uncomfortable and it honestly didn't feel as good. On top of that, she would just disrupt the rhythm at times and stop massaging so she could whisper to the therapist next to her. She also didn't use enough pressure so it felt like she was just gently caressing my legs for most of the time.

I assumed since I had called in for a couples room, they would have one available for us. Nope. They just led us into different rooms and didn't offer an explanation. I know some places have limited rooms and it's not always guaranteed but it would be highly appreciated if they could just mention that over the phone so I don't get my hopes up.
Once I walked into my room I requested for deep tissue since have a lot of back pain around my neck and shoulders, and boy was it deep. I know deep tissue is supposed to be painful but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be the kind of painful that makes you nauseous. She dug in to my back without asking me first if the pressure was ok or not. She jumped right into it, and since it was my first time getting deep tissue done, I thought to myself this must be how it's supposed to feel. It was so bad that I kept taking deep breaths, clenching my hands, and biting down on my teeth. I just couldn't wait for it to be over. At some point I think she finally realized it and asked me if I was in pain. I admitted that I was and asked her to use less pressure. She did, but she got kind of sassy about it and mentioned how I was the one who asked for deep tissue in the first place and how it's supposed to painful. I completely understand that, but every one has a different pain threshold and I think as a massage therapist you ask your client if the pressure is fine for them from the beginning.
Aside from this, I'm really ticklish in my lower back, so anytime she would stroke those areas I would just naturally flinch. It pissed her off and she told me two times that I need to stop that and "relax", otherwise she can't do her job. I totally understand but I can't help that I'm ticklish in some areas, it's just my body's natural reaction and not anything I can really control.
To top it off, I noticed she was giggling two different times towards the end of the massage while stroking my arms and legs. Umm, wtf? What could she possibly be laughing at? Made me feel awkward and self conscious. Totally not professional if you ask me.
I normally tip generously because I know how hard these guys work and it's always well deserved. But this time it truly wasn't. I tipped her just a few dollars short than I normally would and the guy at the front desk was super passive aggressive about it. Yeah - sorry, I don't feel bad. I'll be returning but requesting James every time from now on. read more
