Came here for breakfast Saturday morning and had a great experience! The line was long but it moves quickly. You watch them make the food as you wait to place your order. I ordered the banana and walnut pancakes and my friend ordered the chorizo omelet. Both were fantastic and the portions were very generous! The staff was friendly and it was easy to get a table. They have a policy that you can't save tables but turns out even though it was busy we didn't have any issues. I had tried multiple times to visit the Beacon Hill location of this place, but discovered that there was one in Southie also! This place had no wait time (although maybe there is during peak brunch hours- we were there around 1pm on a Sunday). We had the Paramount Salad, Paramount Burger and the Caramel Banana French Toast and we were satisfied with all the food we got. Portions are very generous and the food just tastes homemade and hearty. This place has a casual diner feel, which is reflected by the prices, but the food is wholeheartedly satisfactory. I can see why this place is popular, and despite the possible wait times, I would still recommend it. I don't know why they do the whole "order and pay before you find yourself a table" thing, but whatever. I've now eaten several brunches and dinners at paramount. The ordering and seating scheme makes the most of the small space and works out better than I initially though it would. For brunch, order at the counter and sit only after paying. My dining companions have been consistently pleased with omelettes, huevos rancheros, other egg dishes, bacon and the generous portions of pancakes. Coffee is decent and there is a good selection of teas. Servers bring your order out to the table only within 10 minutes. For dinner there is a table service. For lunch/dinner, the sweet potato/bean tacos are to die for! The service staff and cashiers are friendly and quick. They keep the tables turned over so there and generally no waiting for table to be cleaned. Sometimes on weekend mornings the line wraps all the way to the back of the restaurant but it moves fairly quickly. read more

The line to order was very very long but we waited and got our orders placed. I think it was an extra long line because of marathon weekend. I ordered a 2 egg meal with the eggs scrambled. My fiancé got the Spanish omelette. And my friend joining us got the Spanish omelette as well. The cashier was quite clearly in a foul mood and was not at all friendly. We paid and sat down at our table and waited for the food. My order came out quickly with just some fried egg and toast. You may recall that I asked for it scrambled, so I sent it back. My friend also got her meal quickly. And then we sat for ten to 15 minutes waiting for my fiancé to get her meal. I could tell some error had occurred. The host was clearly distraught and surprised we hadn't received all of our food. The cashier and the host exchanged words and yet again the bad mood cashier couldn't have cared less. The host asked my fiancé what she had and it appeared that they made it on the fly and brought it out. Finally, I was able to eat my own (now lukewarm) meal! The host profusely apologized. In other news, I saw Aly Raisman at this hopping breakfast spot! She and her companion left after realizing it was a little too crazy and the line was obnoxiously long. Great brunch place, flew into town in early in the morning after taking the T shuttle into town this place is a nice walk away. Ordered and egg sandwich and fruit parfait but the real winner was the cajun home fries. The seasoning which I find a bit much in some foods was perfect and they were cooked perfectly! So I came here based on the review that states a guy had the best pulled pork of his life at The Paramount. That and I needed to kill time before I met my realtor to turn in my application for the coolest east Southie apt ever (but I digress). Let me start by stating that this is the first yelp review that has steered me wrong in the 4yrs I have used the app. Yep, the pulled pork was not only NOT the best I've ever had it took me back to days when I was in middle school wondering what was being slopped onto my tray in the lunch line. Yikes, maybe that guy has just never had good southern BBQ? Standing in line was not a fun experience, not because I mind queuing up, but because I was forced to see the containers of ingredients being used by the line cooks...and how not fresh or mixed together they were. I'm guessing they get so busy they drop pieces of this and that as they go? Overall the ambiance was ok, just try to sit at the front of the restaurant instead of back by the line. Came for Sunday brunch. Boyfriend got the chocolate chip pancakes -- GOOD pancakes.. fluffy and buttery etc. but I don't know how you could really make BAD pancakes so there's that. I got the fried chicken sandwich (was pondering the turkey burger but boyf wanted to go the unhealthy route). Piece of chicken so big I couldn't eat the sandwich with the top bun on. Very crunchy.. actually cut the roof of my mouth. Wasn't very juicy unfortunately. Long line to order cafeteria-style for brunch but they churn out the food quickly. You're also not allowed to save seats which the hostess not-so-kindly informed me of as I waited in a booth while boyfriend ordered. I was afraid they wouldn't have enough seating but turnover seems to be pretty fast. Free refills on coffee but you have to go to the counter to ask.. and it was burnt. Looking at their pictures and their web site, I expected a sit down restaurant style breakfast place. When I arrived, I found out it's more of a hybrid. You go to the counter, order your food, pay for it, then grab a seat and they will bring your food to you. I imagine it's designed this way to turn tables faster and reduce the overall staff. One frustration is you order at the counter, then have to repeat your order to the cashier. For the price that they are charging, you would think they would have a better system than this. Their standard breakfast fare is average (eggs, bacon, etc). I had their banana caramel french toast. I am used to the Hobbees version of this which has the banana built into the toast. In this case, it's Texas toast with a banana cut up on top and caramel sauce sprinkled on top. The banana itself was cut in random sizes which didn't do that much for me. Much better when you eat there! The music is a bit interesting and we waited a bit long but still good food and drinks. I got a special drink of autumn spritzer (pumpkin vodka, apple cider, 2 other things...) which was delicious. One of the best autumn/fall drinks I've ever had. We shared Fried Pickles which grew on me--too hot at first but it was my own fault because I was so excited (and we did wait a bit like I said). The sauce was one of the best thing's I've ever had: paprika ranch. I then had Pad Thai which was very american-ized. The noodles tasted like they had been soaked in the sauce which made it heavy, there were no bean sprouts which would have made it lighter, and it was HUGE (probably 3 times larger than anything I got in Thailand). What's the fuss? You're better off to visit the same business in another location than this one and if you order a sandwich or salad here but anything else could go wrong depends on your luck. Overpriced first of all and second the place were not even busy (1 table of 2 guests) when i ordered. Yet somehow they managed to miss my side order, which was told 3 times by other staffs. I'm quite disgusted to be honest seeing that i ordered a poached egg that came out of a pot that's been soaking for god knows how long. Worse is that it's hard boiled not poached egg when i cut the egg and tasted like i ate vinegar! Also they put a random charge in addition to my bill, so please be careful if you don't check your account after visiting this place! I gave a nice tip but disappointed to say the very least that the service was awful, food was less than average and I will never come back! read more

Paramount has hands down the best wings I've ever had - and we've done many taste tests! The food is consistent and fresh every time. Other favorites include the chicken quesadilla and the steak tips. The bacon induced mashed potatoes are fantastic. They offer a really great kids menu. If I could rate it as 0 stars I would. Their menu does not reflect what they serve. I ordered a yogurt parfait and the menu said it had "low fat yogurt" which I would assume to be vanilla or plain yogurt. My parfait came out with strawberry yogurt which I do not eat. I brought this up to my waitress and she informed me that "it always comes with strawberry." How was I supposed to know this if this was my first time there and it was not indicated on the menu. She did not offer any suggestions or a discount to make it right. My friend ordered the breakfast burrito which she was only able to eat 25% of because it was just not good and the eggs were grey. The burrito also came with tortilla chips but no dip for them. Overall, the food sucked and the service was slow. Our waitress was rude when we tried to bring up valid concerns. This place is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Boston. The location is adorable as well as the inside. The staff is very friendly and they make your food so fast! It's fairly priced, ordered a side of guacamole for $2 and it was a plate full of fresh guacamole. I ordered the feta, spinach, tomato omelette. Long wait to get to the cashier and to sit down, but other than that, the food was very very good! I got apple cinnamon pancakes, bacon, and an iced coffee. All of that for a pretty good price. They bring the food out to you after a little bit of a wait. The pancakes I got actually had the apple slices baked into the batter! Was not expecting that. I placed a order for take out through Caviar, and paid by credit card at that time. I showed up at the restaurant to pick up my order about 5 mins after getting the alert that it was ready. I waited at the front for about 5 mins and saw the cashiers standing around looking at me and then looking away. Then I realized a big sign with an arrow saying to pick up your Caviar orders here. I saw my bag, looked at the receipt and took it to go. Having done this a million times at Starbucks, I didn't think anything of it, especially since the staff was standing around and ignoring me. I realized that there was an item missing from my order so I called the restaurant as I headed back. I was immediately met with an extremely rude person on the other end of the phone accusing me of stealing the order. I can't imagine many people who steal pay with a credit card and then call the restaurant back about their order, but here we are. She was yelling at me and scolding me over the phone to the point where I needed to ask her to get off the phone so we could resolve this in person. When I arrived back at Paramount, the woman I had spoken to on the phone ignored me for easily 5-10 minutes before coming over to the register as id she was trying to teach me a lesson. She then mocked me and continued to yell at me for walking out with the bag. I tried to explain to her the confusion based on the sign and other in-store pick up apps, and in response she started imitating me in an effort to make fun of me and then talking about me to the rest of the staff right in front of me and laughing. She then had me wait almost 30 minutes for the one sandwich I did not receive, which seemed very odd given that the order was supposedly complete almost 45 minutes ago at this point. It got to a point where the woman was being so loud, rude and deeming that I had to ask her to stop being so aggressive with me, which was again met with eye rolls and laughter. When the food was finally available she held out the order and as I reached for it pulled it back so it was out of my reach, which I just couldn't believe. I have never been treated so poorly by another person in my life, let alone by someone in the service industry. I used to love going to Paramount after living in South Boston for almost 10 years, but I'm sad to say I'll never be back after that treatment. read more

When I lived in Southie, this was my favorite spot. The malted waffle is incredible, you have to try it. The staff was always so friendly and service was quick. My husband and I were looking for somewhere to stop for breakfast on our way to the JFK Museum, and this worked the best for us. It was quick and easy to walk up to the grill and place our order, we paid, and the food was brought out to us. We got the chorizo omelette and the huevos rancheros, both of which were outstanding. I think my husband got the equivalent of an entire avocados for his guacamole on his omelette. The Cajun home fries definitely stole the show...wow!!! The only reason I bumped it down to four stars is the service. Nobody was rude, it wasn't that we got bad service... everyone just at seemed indifferent about being there. This place received very good reviews from our previous tenant so we were eager to give them a shot. The ambiance is nice. It ended there. The waiter was not very attentive. He was too busy talking to the other severs behind the counter. My husband got a chicken order that was incredibly spicy and we had no idea. We didn't even eat it. My husband doesn't complain but it was a waste of $20... I had the Chicken Pad Thai.. which has a few pieces of chicken and Tofu everywhere. Wasn't very good. The beer came in Bottles but they did have a good Seasonal (pumpkin) selection. I want to try the brunch but now we aren't so sure. For a breakfast spot, this place could do better. There is a lot of good breakfast competition in the area. You order at the line, and can basically watch as your food is prepared. You get a number and they'll bring your food to your table. Upon arriving, it took about 10 minutes to get our order placed. The cooks are so busy preparing, it's odd they also take the orders. The food was okay, I really think the prices were too high and the potatoes were over seasoned. I would have liked to opt out of the potatoes all together for a meat or other substitute. For about an average of $9-11 for a breakfast entree, I'll go elsewhere. I hear lunch and dinner are a bit better, and perhaps more organized. read more

Here are some tips: Park at Stop N Shop, but don't tell them that I said you could. If you want OJ, order the large. It is like twice the size of the small but for $0.50 more. On the same note, get three eggs instead of two. It's a difference between $6 and $7. That's a decent price for an extra egg. Go for it. The gluten-free chocolate chip pancakes will make you remember what it's like to eat pancakes and why they are actually an amazing invention. Don't try to reserve a table. The sign out front said "welcome new Southie residents" but it certainly didn't feel that way. Don't come here if you want to have a relaxing weekend brunch. If you're in a hurry or just want a quick bite to eat it's probably great - I got the egg and cheese sandwich and it was good. The side of potatoes wasn't very good so I was slowly picking at them and enjoying my weekend. The busboy came up and said "looks like you're all set." And took my dishes before I could tell him otherwise. I noticed they were busy so I started to look for my next destination on my phone. Then a guy walked up to my table and condescendingly said, "Ma'am are you waiting for someone?" I asked if he was asking me to leave. He just said "yes, thank you," and turned around. I'm new to the area so I eat alone a lot. I would have chosen a table with less than four seats, but there wasn't that option in the restaurant. I understand more people in means more money. They could have been nicer about it. I eat brunch a lot (it's one of my favorite things) and they're right down the street, but I'll never come back again. I know my $15 a weekend probably doesn't matter to them at all, and they'll have more table space as a result. read more

I haven't had many great Southie experiences. Most of them involve bar hopping, four leaf clovers and references to short men in green. But, when my best friend announced that she was moving there, I figured, what the hell, better check out the grub situation. I had never been to either Paramount restaurant before but it was a great experience! Everyone was so friendly and it was a great place to come for an early bite to eat. Paramount is cafeteria style but also serves alcohol- a must in Southie. The cooks were so nice and even recommended veg options for me! Katya got breakfast and I got a black bean burger that was made in house. We both tried a Christmas flavor of local beers (celebrating the first day of Hanukkah I guess?) Katya loved her breakfast sando but the hash browns tasted a little stale- hey, I guess that's what happens when you order breakfast at 4 pm, sweetheart. The black bean veggie burger was AMAZING. It was served with salsa and sweet potato fries. It was supposed to be on a wheat roll but was on a butter toasted white roll, so I skipped that part... I was hoping the homemade sweet potato fries would be better than they were. They weren't that crispy and were a little oil-y. The Paramount is one of the most popular brunch spots in Boston, and it certainly lived up to its name this morning. The South Boston location is not as popular as the one in Beacon Hill, although I found absolutely no differences in the quality of food or service. I ordered the Belgian Waffle with fresh fruit, while my boyfriend ordered the Paramount Burger with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. The waffle was one of the best I've ever had, with a really delicious batter and a really good variety of fresh fruit loaded on top. The burger was also fantastic, and so big that it barely fit in my mouth! Overall, what really stood out to me was the freshness and quality of the ingredients. OK, it's kind of an " experience" restaurant....but once is probably enough. The management seems sure of its wait in line and get your food style but given the cramped quarters and the grumpy line cooks, I think traditional sit down service would have been a lot more comfortable and enjoyable. Waiting 40 minutes in line, having to dodge numerous bus carts and ending up at a small undesirable table did not endear me to the Paramount. The food was good but nothing special. The best looking item, which we didn't order as it was pretty huge, was the caramel banana pancakes. This place is set up oddly in that you have to wait in this long cafeteria line (mad high school flashbacks) to order, whereupon your food is served to you and you can pay and leave. It was crowded on a Sunday morning but the line moved briskly and I was one step closer to putting some hurt on a stack of chocolate chip pancakes. The pancakes were good, but nothing special. If the subject of pancakes came up in a group of my friends, I wouldn't mention the Paramount's pancakes unless someone else had brought it up first. They also weren't the cheapest, considering what you can get elsewhere. The girlfriend got a monstrous fried chicken sandwich which was the size of her face. It was delicious, but dried out because it had been sitting under a heating lamp probably since they opened. Go to Mul's Diner instead - cheaper and faster. read more
