While visiting Tennyson's Halloween Pet Parade and Costume Contest, just happened to visit The Pasty Republic, and glad that we did. Got turned on to pastys on a visit to Mineral Point, WI, and couldn't resist. Ordered the "Joey," a mix of meatballs, mozzarella, garlic, red peppers, and marinara, and my better half got the traditional "Miner," which is steak, rutabaga, potatoes, and onions. Both were excellent, unique food choices that we so darn tasty and filling. Ate outside on a really nice day, soaked up the sunshine, and enjoyed a truly unique meal. I'm coming back. read more

Stopped by on the way back into town from a hike around 12:45pm on a Saturday. At that point the counter was nearly cleared out and only two flavors were left. I tried the Joey which was a meatball marinara tucked neatly into a flaky crust. The ratio of crust to filling was perfect, and the filling itself was perfectly seasoned with the right balance of cheese, tomato and protein. I visited this food truck while at the Farmers Market. This was by far the absolute best version of a pizza pocket that I've ever had! It was packed with meat and flavor. So filling. My husband and I only discovered this place at the end of our time in the nearby neighborhood. It's small and only open during the day. Even though we don't live up the street anymore it is worth the trip for a nice warm savory hand pie for brunch. They have breakfast and other savory options and one or two sweet as well. My husband likes the South of the Border with chorizo and egg. They always have at least one vegan option. Today I got the Foreman, which is filled with root veggies. The best part is the are made fresh everyday and stay warm in a case so the are super fast to grab in a hurry but also very fresh. They also have a variety of sauces to add more flavor. The word pasty rhymes with nasty, which I've never really understood since it should actually rhyme with tasty given how amazing these made-from-scratch hand pies are. This place has become my go-to breakfast choice on the weekend - walking the dog down to Pasty Republic and then heading across the street to lounge at Cesar Chavez park while eating a hot, sizable pasty is almost a weekly occurrence these days. The pastry dough is baked daily and each pie is hand-formed and stuffed with a wide variety of options. There's something for everyone here: vegan, vegetarian, and full-on carnivore options, all unfailingly executed and 100% delicious. The size of these bad boys deserves a specific call-out: I've always suspected that they weigh about a pound and took the time to actually weigh mine this morning. It clocked in at just over half a pound. These things are a serious full-size meal in a convenient to-go format. The staff here is never anything short of super friendly and accommodating. They also have a food truck that makes a regular appearance at the Highlands Square market on 32nd Street in the summer - same offerings, same friendly service. I love this place. read more

It had a great buttery, crispy crust and was packed full of chicken, pesto, and artichoke. It was so big that I only ate half and saved the other half for lunch today. The Miner was English-food boring. I had it once. Don't need to taste it again. They need to get some kick-ass, spicy Indian versions. The price is a tad high. Maybe a buck too high. One of my favorite food groups is savory goods wrapped in bread. Empanadas, dumplings, pies. It's all delicious and this little hole in the wall is on point with their selection and simplicity. I ordered 2 while I was here despite knowing one would fill me sufficiently. I couldn't help getting a second to go. I got Country Road which is just a tasty pocket of breakfast, the maple sausage was a highlight, I could've used a slight bit more sweet in there but the seasoning and temperature was so satisfying. The other was the Philosopher which the flavor combo really intrigued. I hardly see mint incorporated in Western dishes outside of sweets. It was truly a unique flavor profile. The almonds and feta gave it a nice texture with the spinach mixture. And as the other, the seasoning was pitch perfect. Great little spot overall. The price to size ratio is very fair and the crust of the pasty on both were flaky and flavorful, even on a reheat the next day. I LOVE these pasties and the fact they have vegan and vegetarian options! Super easy for on the go & the crust is so delicious too. The breakfast ones are always great and super filling. I do wish they had one or two more options for vegetarian that aren't breakfast or sweet potato related (I personally don't like sweet potatoes so something with mushrooms or another veggie instead would be so awesome for dinner!) I love their take & bake pasties for home as well. My one last wish would be custom dipping sauces, since pasties are so bready. Pasties are one of my favorite local foods found in Michigan. I'm from the state natively and lived there for 22 years. It was such a pleasant surprise finding out that there are pasties in Denver. There are two locations, with the other being by Cherry Creek and the University of Denver. I ordered the Miners Pasty (including beef steak, potato, rutabaga, and onions). It was very similar to a Yooper one with its ingredients and preparation. However, I do prefer the ones I had in Marquette and St. Ignace). I also ordered the Caretaker Pasty. It had the ingredients of a chicken pot pie wrapped into a pocket pie. This one was my favorite pasty from this restaurant. The ambience is that of a small cafe / bakery. The service is also fast, with the pasties already being freshly prepared. I'd recommend a Coloradan to visit one of the two locations to try a pasty. read more

Finally tried this place out on a lazy Sunday. I don't know anything about pasty but judging by the yelp comments, they're quite authentic. We tried a few flavors and they were all wonderful in their own way. Buffalo chicken - I actually was kind of skeptical about this flavor but it turned out to be my favorite. Very unique and addicting. Shepard- I personally thought this one was kind of dull compared to the other flavors but my boyfriend loved it and gobbled it up into shreds instantly. Joey- Very good for pizza lovers! I really enjoyed it it was like eating a hot pocket but much fresher and less greasy haha. Really enjoyed the service and food here. I popped into Pasty Republic on impulse one Sunday morning and wow what a pleasant surprise! I'm a huge empanada fan and these were huge, jam packed with fresh goodies, and piping hot. I tried the Country Road which was a perfect sweet/savory breakfast combo with maple sausage, potatoes, eggs, and cheddar inside a puffy empanada. The empanadas are hand held if you have a huge hand - I decided against being delicate and just bit out of mine! The spot is Covid safe with two small outdoor tables and one guest at a time inside. Honestly, I was very disappointed. I was trying to surprise my mom by bringing her to enjoy her favorite childhood food and we get here, well before close, and there are 4 pasty's left...period. a vegan, a veggie a dessert and 2 coal miners. I opted to eat nothing as I didn't like the remaining choices and my mom went ahead and bought the coal miners. I did my due diligence and made sure we'd get there in plenty of time before you closed so we would have some options. I reviewed the website before we travelled and made a mental note of what I wanted to order. Nothing on the site said to to come early or else leave empty-handed. We drove from green valley ranch to wheat ridge only to find out there was almost nothing available. I understand having fresh offerings and.not making more than you sell...but I will never return because I cannot count on being able to score anything if you happen to sell out early. I've had them before and they were great but to make a long drive only to leave hungry and empty handed was an utter waste of time. Ended up eating elsewhere unfortunately. read more

Absolutely delicious! Pasties are always tough - they can be too dry, too moist, the crust doesn't stay together. It seems The Pasty Republic seems to have it down. Both my Shepherd and Country Road we're perfect and stayed together to the last bite! My wife comes from a mining family that made Pasties for her as a kid, and even she was impressed! We live a bit aways from The Pasty Republic, but will certainly make the trip out of our way to get some again. I wasn't familiar with the concept of a pasty, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Everything sounded like comfort food wrapped in a pie crust, and indeed it was just that! I've tried the Joey, the Farmer, the Shepard, the South of the Border, and the Country Road. My favorites is the Farmer-- plenty of meat with tons of flavor from the garlic and onions. At $8.25 a pop, one pasty is plenty of food for lunch, so I think the pricing is really darn fair. But where you really need to venture is the day old pasties. At $12.00 for four, you would think you're getting the slightly stale bread, the ugly fruit. Lord, no. By giving these pasties an extra day to meld all those flavors together while the crust remains buttery and flakey, you feel like you are committing highway robbery getting each beautiful, delicious pie for only $3.00 a piece. Plus, when you get this package deal, you get a random assortment. It's a great excuse to try some flavors you may not have ordered off the menu without the financial commitment of $8.25 a piece. Eat them right away or freeze them. You can't go wrong with this option. read more

The guy behind the counter was nice enough, but didn't say too much to me until I ordered - so this didn't really entice me to buy more. I ordered a veggie pastie and The Shepherd - both were unfortunately kind of dry and underwhelming. The sauce they have on the table is great though. Noticed the guy behind the counter was a lot more friendly to the two guys that came in after me. This place is really cozy. And I don't mean that in the crappy way that realtors use to describe outdated houses. I mean, small and warm. It was quite crowded when my husband and I stopped in, so we ordered our pasties to-go. The woman who took our order was extremely helpful and described the ingredients in all the pasties that they were offering- there were six or so. I went with the "caregiver" which is chicken pot pie, and my husband ordered the more traditional "miner" with chopped beef, rutabaga, and potatoes. We are not new to pasties- my husband considers himself a "pasty connoisseur" having lived in England for a time, so we get them wherever we can. I was starving and bit into my pasty immediately after we left- they are very portable you know! A wave a disappointment washed over me when all I could taste was salt. My brain couldn't process any other flavors. I took another bite to see if I was imagining things. Then I gave it to my husband who said it was incredibly salty- and this is from a man who salts his McDonald's french fries. After about four bites my tongue and lips started to hurt from the tremendous amount of salt. Also, I couldn't find a piece of chicken for the life of me. I had a salt lick encased in dough with some peas thrown in. At $7.50 I was redonk disappointed. I moved on to my husband's pasty which was MUCH better. You could taste the different flavors and actually see/find the beef. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was edible. I'm thinking the chicken pot pie pasty I had was a fluke, but after that experience it's hard to rush back to try another one. P.S. We dissected the 3/4th of my leftover pasty. The hubs and I first tried Pasty Republic at the big wonderful event. We tried the farmer and it reminded me of a childhood dish I loved. My acupuncturist is right down the road from the shop so I stopped in to get a couple farmers to go (chicken, broccoli, white cheddar). When I ate the farmer I realized I had been given the caretaker (chicken, peas and carrots). Although I was a bit disappointed because I had a specific craving, the caretaker was delicious. The pastry is perfection and the filling was perfectly seasoned. We had also gotten the Nutella s'mores. It was a little on the dry side but the flavors were quite good. The owner is really nice and these are authentic English pasties. We will definitely be working our way through the menu. read more

I'd eat here every day if I could! British meat hand pies, and done very well. For those unfamiliar, think of it as a British empanada? They taste fresh, and you'll have your choice between 10 or so savory options. I generally prefer the chicken options but you can't go wrong across the board.
