The peacock was a fantastic place to dine. The portions were smaller (and by smaller I mean actually portioned). The food was delicious. Just a tad pricy. (I.e. $12 for hummus). However, I'm not from the Austin area and this may be a comparable price to other nearby restaurants. The ambiance was incredible. The interior was large and beautifully decorated. Granted this was during coronavirus virus where the place was a little quite but that isn't why I'm giving this place a 3 star. Couple of things, we had order presecco first before ordering wine but presecco never came. Our server had forgot. On the food front, the dumpling wasn't on the menu, but was recommended by our server.. the dish was my least favorite. When you take a bite, you taste mostly of dough & not enough meat. Flavor was a little bland. I'm usually very excited about dumplings but this fell a little short. Also, the cheese plate looked soo appealing with the fire but ours came out with no fire, it went on its way to the table. I was a big fan of the octopus and the date pudding was definitely worth ending the meal with. The other dishes were pretty decent. The wine selection was quite large, they had a wonderful sommelier that recommended a good bottle of wine. The decor and outside patio does look very inviting. When the bill came out, I wasn't as surprised with the total cost but was curious as to why wellness fee was added. This was the first time I've heard of a company passing on their employees healthcare charges to customers. Would have thought that would be baked into the prices. I think the restaurant could do a better job of informing customers of wellness fees and not having the server try to explain and say they are happy to take it off. First lunch at Peacock with a girlfriend of mine, we loved everything about the place, down to the oversized front doors. Ambiance is very Mediterranean chic, very tropical, simple calming color palette. Waitstaff attire simple and potentially traditional. Simple light colors, simple and clean lines, all friendly. We opted to try and share a few items, none of which disappointed. In order from most enjoyed: Mezze section of lunch menu - Manti Dumplings, super good! The flavors, the plating, textures, all a win!! Next, from the Plates and Tajine section of the menu, the Mezze Plate- finger food, like a Mediterranean chips and dip. And finished in the Sandwich section of the menus with the Grilled Chicken LTH (lettuce, tomato, hummus) pretty basic chicken wrap, strength was the chicken. I drank the iced mango, passion fruit + green tea! Super summertime! I'll definitely be back!! read more

5 stars for the food, I think this is better food than Aba imo. Love all the hummus variations and grilled octopus, and you can tell their pita is fresh out of the oven. Only negative is sitting outside is hit or miss because it's right next to the "creek" which smells like sewage. But I prefer Peacock over most fancy Mediterranean spots! read more

We stayed in the Proper hotel for a weekend outing and discovered that the hottest new restaurant in Austin happened to be the hotel restaurant. The only downside of that is that the restaurant and lobby bar were super crowded all weekend. We finally managed to get a reservation for dinner and we were so glad that we did. First, let me say that the absolute best feature of this restaurant was our server, Megan. I was actually on the verge of giving a bad review for the hotel experience itself until we had dinner here and Megan turned it into one of the best evenings we've had in a long time. Pro tip: ask for Megan and listen to her recommendations on the menu. We started with the beef short rib hummus and red snapper appetizer. Both of them were fantastic but the beef short rib hummus - OMG! And the warm fluffy pita served along with it was just as good. I could have just had this and left happy. For our main course we had the grilled lamb chops and the lamb meatball tajin (we don't often have good lamb so we take the opportunity when it presents itself). Both were also very good and I would happily order either on our next visit. The sides though that we had really rounded out the main course. We had the potato latkes and the mujarra, which is a blend of rice and lentils with crispy onions and peas. Sounds kind of bland I thought at first but it was anything but. As it was my wife's birthday, Megan made the evening special for us with a nice little complimentary aperitif and a great gluten free chocolate torte for desert. 3 weeks old and this place is popping! Located right next to seaholm in the brand new Proper hotel, the Peacock grill is already shaping up to be one of the hippest places in Austin. The restaurant has cut no corners in bringing out the best of Mediterranean food. We ordered the beef manti which was dressed with just the right amount of yogurt, some spices and a dash of oil. Well executed. The short rib hummus was my personal favorite. The short ribs were grilled to be slightly crunchy and added texture to the very creamy hummus. The hummus had a rich chickpea flavor and a dash of citrus, the flavors that take me back to the Middle East. The pita bread was warm and perfectly soft and stayed this way. It seemed they had a dedicated oven to make this pita. The tagine was perfect. The wild cod has a crusty exterior but was soft on the inside and paired well with the olivey ras el hanout gravy. We also ordered a potato latkes with labneh and fish roe and the flavors went well togather. The couscous was flawless, not clumpy and extremely fresh We ended our night with an orange creme brulee, the flavors and aromas that literally transport you to the Mediterranean. Theres definitely skill and passion involved to reconstruct a french dessert in such a delectable way. Look foward to coming back here and trying out the other enticing items on the menu. read more

The service was excellent with 3 waiters/ waitresses, and we sat outside, so it was very nice to be able to visit. We had several delicious dishes and a variety of appetizers. Each dish had flavors from the Mediterranean and bright colors of saffron and turmeric. The pita bread was the best and the garlic hummus was nice with the black garlic seasoning. The tofu veggie balls in a minty yogurt sauce were excellent. We had 3 vegans in a party of five. Everyone enjoyed the food, mock cocktails and a lovely crème brûlée. read more

I visited The Peacock on a Saturday night. It's located on the first floor of a hotel and it was very noisy - there's no walls separating the restaurant from the other part of the hotel. While we were fine with it, but it may take away from the experience if you're looking for less noise (at least on a weekend). We had a reservation and service was quick. We had a few questions on the menu and our server was well informed about the dishes. We ordered the beef kebab and it was incredibly soft! Definitely enough for a single person. My boyfriend took my here last week and WOW, it did not disappoint. When we first walked in, we were greeted by the host who was very warm but professional. My family surprised me with dinner at the Peacock for my Birthday last week. There were six of us, and each and everyone of us loved the food. The watermelon feta salad was amazing...a symphony of sweet, creamy and savory...really delicious. The humus was one of the best I have ever tasted, even the bread was delicious. There was lamb which was enjoyed by all, kebabs and other salads. Le piece de resistance was the baklava which was the best I ever had...flaky, not too sweet, and full of pistachios...yum. Mcguire Moorman does it again! Fantastic middle eastern cuisine, excellent service, great vibes. All the dishes were outstanding but loved the hummus (with delectable warm pita), kefta kebab, and salad the most. Lamb chops needed the accompanying sauces and could've used a little more salt and cooked a little more rare. Please note that the kebabs are not served with rice and hummus at least at dinner time (other yelp photos showed this which could be a lunch option). Rebecca was very affable and took care of us with a small team of service people that quickly cleared plates, delivered food and were top notch. The only service nit pick is that when the starter plates and utensils were cleared we were given new plates silverware (as expected) but they were rolled up in another napkin so managing 2 napkins was a little out of the ordinary. Highly recommend Peacock for a great dining experience and (without drinks) was around $55 pp for 5 of us with ample food. read more

This place almost killed me - I ate so much I thought I was going to die at the valet stand. Restaurant is beautiful and service was fantastic. Food: Server likely saved my life when she offered up the Mezze plate instead of getting the hummus + falafel (along with the 80 other dishes) Mezze plate - this is a meal in itself (falafel, hummus, baba, labneh, cucumber salad, pita). Only comment really is their hummus and baba are very mild (I think that's because as main dips they are paired with stronger ingredients). So don't expect to be punched in the face with garlic or smokiness etc. This is where I should have stopped.... Pea and Feta Dip - I despise peas and I actually ate some of this dip and thought it was ok. That means it is likely the best pea dip in the entire world. Cheese on Fire (aka Saganaki). I mean it's melty cheese served with garliky bread. There is nothing better than melty cheese so no comment needed. Roasted Carrots - almost too pretty to eat. Carrots, Aleppo peppers, some insane lemon yogurt. This was a stand out. Chicken Tagine - this was fantastic over the Saffron Rice. The rice by itself was special but these two together were perfect. I know I was supposed to have stopped 4 dishes ago...so on to desert. My only critique is the deserts - they need refinement and more balance. This place is last meal worthy! The decor, the service, the drinks, and of course the food. Each dish is so well crafted - full of depth, complex flavors, and just dang good! From my first bite to my last - it just kept getting better and better. I know! how often does that happen, right? Here's what we had there and highly recommend all of them ....hummus with shallot, labneh, saganaki, oak grilled octopus, and the grilled chicken thighs on skewers. The only thing I'd skip is the grilled Aleppo shrimp dish. To me, it lacked flavor in comparison to everything else. A Bloody Mary can be ruined by being too "weak sauce"; a little watery, too thin, no bite. But The Peacock? Now here's a place that knows how to wake up the tastebuds! Best Bloody Mary in Austin (so far!), including some pretty decent ones like at Holy Roller. It's not often I actually want to learn the name of the chef. You can have a very decent meal (like we did at Lamberts the other night; boar ribs for the win!), but that'll be it. You leave a nice tip, and you tell your friends. But the food we got (on a whim) on Sunday afternoon? WOW! Google search suggests "The menu, developed by Larry McGuire, Tom Moorman, and MMH executive chef Jedd Adair (and executed under the direction of The Proper's Ray Lammers), riffs on the flavors of North Africa, Greece, Israel, and Lebanon." Hats off to whomever the genius of that meal was! Hummus with shallot for starter (you have never had hummus this perfectly flavored, and never with such incredibly fresh, delicious, never-ending pita breads!), and we were recommended the octopus next by our server, Eric. I was skeptical. Calamari came to mind. Then it arrived. Perfectly grilled, and SUPER tender (no rubberiness). I have never eaten octopus before, and now the bar has been set very very high. Think you've had shaksuka? I did. I've been to Tel Aviv and Haifa and sampled their delicious versions. Hands down this was better. There it is. True story. My mouth is watering at the thought of it. What a great addition to downtown and the 2nd street district food scene. First of all this place is beautiful both inside and out. The decor is immaculate and the service was impeccable which shows the emphasis on attention to detail. The food however by far is what stood out the most to me. Everything we tried was delicious from the flakiness of the spanakopita to the flavorful char on the lamb kabob. To top it off was the refreshing Spanish gin & tonic I had which was not only delightful but refreshing as well. I love the food here. It's amazing every time. on my last visit had Mac the hostess help us get a table outside for drinks and appetizers and drinks while she got us on the list for inside. As good as the food is at Peacock, and it is truly exceptional, this review is about their cocktails. In this day and age when tasty and creative cocktails seem to be everywhere, it is inexcusable that Peacock's cocktails are as mediocre as they are. I've been to Peacock twice in the past three months. Both times I've had their two iterations of spicy margarita (I forgot what I though about them when I went back the second time). Both times, one of the margs was watery with no depth of flavor and other had a strange medicinal flavor. Well-made spicy margs are pretty much a staple in Austin these days and so for the life of me I don't understand why a restaurant as good as Peacock can't get theirs right. read more

My friend and I really enjoyed our dinner here. The short rib hummus was our favorite try of the evening! I'd come back here just for that alone. The pita came out hot and fresh. We wanted to try more of the menu but we were sitting at a lounge seat so the table was low. We did get the spicy lamb shareable plate along with rice and the latkes. Everything was so good. I remember the menu said it was 'family style' but honestly the meat portion was for 2 people only. It is still a good deal though! We both really liked our cocktails and thought we got a good value. I know this is a downside of 2nd street patios in general, but the bird poop all over the ground and a few tables had me scared to sit outside! We were not disappointed. Even though we were a large group (6 people) on a busy Saturday we were seated right away. The atmosphere was great. Waitstaff and management were attentive. The Peacock is such a cute place for dinner! From the food to the decor, everything was absolutely amazing! We couldn't stop looking at the wall filled with the different tile pieces! It was so cute! For the food, I would recommend ordering a bunch of stuff and sharing it! We started off with the beef short rib hummus and dumplings and the beef short rib hummus was definitely my favorite dish out of the entire meal! Then for dinner, we shared the lamb and chicken kebabs, simple greens salad, and cous cous. Both the lamb and chicken were tasty, but I would recommend the lamb if I had to choose one! For my drink, I ordered the coastline cup, which I thought was the perfect spring/summer cocktail! The Peacock is definitely on the nicer/pricer side, but I loved it and would recommend! Allow me to clarify my pricing comments. Here is an example: Two Eggs, Rye Toast, Merguez or Bacon, Za'atar Home Fries $28. These are IMO hotel room service prices, not reasonable restaurant prices. But the service and attitude killed it for us more than anything. A $16 hummus app came with one pita sliced up. We used up the bread (4 of us) with lots of dip remaining. We had to ask for more bread, it took 10 minutes and a follow up question just to get it, and then I noticed on our receipt the server listed that we requested more Pita 3 times (!?!) like we were nagging him about it (we didn't). read more

Appetizers were incredible. We got the spicy lamb labneh, hummus, and saganaki, each more complex in flavor and incredibly tasty than the last. However, that's about where our good experience stopped. I ordered the lamb chops. The server told me that the chef "strongly recommend they be cooked Medium" and I adamantly agreed. When the food came out... my lamb was grey. Completely overcooked. I politely requested they take back my chops and refire, though my server tried to insist that I order something different... interesting. After waiting for a new set of these $40 lamb chops, they arrived again. The server plopped them on the table and ran off, not even checking to see if they were cooked medium this time. Sure enough, I cut into them and... cooked to a crisp. At this point I politely gave up and asked for the plate to be removed from my bill. There was no empathy from our server. Just a "yep" and a walk away. At one point, the maitre d (who seemed to be posing as a manager) came over and soullessly apologized for the incident; no eye contact, no empathy, no care. Was really looking forward to this restaurant, however, after the combination of the inability to cook one of the most expensive dishes on their menu along with the general lack of empathy from the staff, we will not be returning. read more
