I was surprised to find that I, as a woman, was assigned a male therapist, while other women had female therapists. I opted for the 80-minute session, which included a 30-minute foot massage. Unfortunately, the therapist focused more on my legs than my feet, and it felt more like a light touch than a proper massage. Honestly, my husband could have done a better job at home. I find it frustrating when service in the U.S. tends to be minimal while still expecting generous tips. I believe the owner should provide better training for their staff. Always a great experience I just read another review that was bad and the lady complained about a male masseuse ( Yes lady, men can give massages too..) She said his arm hair hurt her. Called to book an appt for two. The person who answered struggled with a language barrier. I thought I was pretty clear with the appt time we wanted and my daughter was listening to it all since I had the call on speaker. When we got there she told another employee to tell us we were late and told us a different appt time. I was like no way, we literally repeated the time 5x over the phone and she said yes to it. She didnt apologize for what seemed to be a misunderstanding but only said to come back later. I was like Umm no maam. There will be no coming back lol. I always try my best to be super flexible and patient with people who are struggling with the language because we live in such a beautiful diverse area but whoever is making the appts and running this business, needs to be able to communicate clearly and just get basic phrases down so that they can get people to support their business. I came in with my partner today around 4pm and we did the 60min combo that involves 30min body and 30min feet. The guy infront sat me and my partner in this room and left us there. I'm guessing we just had to wait and it was for our feet part. The lady and man came in and she kept saying full body and I'm not sure what she said BUT we said yes because the main reason my partner wanted to come to was her back and I wanted feet so badly. My lady therapist was decent especially on my back BUT I said I wanted feet specifically and she barely did my feet and I felt so disappointed. I can hear the male therapist while working on my partner and he sounded so bothered. He kept sniffling and he kept sighing like things were an issue. I heard him working on my partners sheet on her back for a while when my therapist was already starting on my leg. Once she got to my leg I heard her tell him something. After the massage I found out the reason he was so bothered was cause his fingers got stuck in my partners hair. Her hair was fully brushed and was his fault it got tangled. He used only elbows and his hairs were stabbing her. Overall I can speak for myself only that my therapist was semi good my back was great BUT the rest was very disappointing. ESPECIALLY for my feet. Her massage she came out so upset. Afterwards we went to the front and they couldn't even answer my partners simple question. It's like they completely ignored her. They also had us pay $5 extra for the full body which was so stupid being they didn't even do our feet. I was going to give the lady $20 in tip but since we needed to pay a $5 extra I used that tip and it got taken out of that. It's not a spot I would go to again for sure. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I have tried this place 5 times over the past ~7 years. I am truly a glutton for punishment because I go there expecting to get a genuinely good massage. However, 4 of the 5 people assigned to me have all been trained by the same crazy teacher. I would not go here unless you want to walk out with more anxiety than you walk in with. They seem to think that spending 3-5 minutes massaging the same spot on your back is a good thing. It's annoying and feel terrible after the first minute or so and then they continue and continue and continue in the same damn spot. It took me a while to feel comfortable about getting a massage again, but my son and I decided to go today for 2-hour foot massages. Some good and not so good. Not the regular people you'd see behind the counter and it took a couple of phone calls to the 'boss' since I wanted to buy (2) of their 10-session cards only to be told I couldn't, but did not really offer an explanation as to why, largely due to language barrier. It took (4) people to try to figure out how to work the credit card machine before they finally gave up and said 'after massage'. So I was thinking, ok, maybe that's why I couldn't buy the cards since I was paying by credit card and no one knew how to process. I recognized the guy and let him do the massage for my son and I got someone I've never seen before. Try someone new, why not? It was definitely hit and miss. Some parts she was able to put enough pressure, but sometimes not where they were needed to the point that it was somewhat painful. Pressure on flesh and muscle, yes, but not on bones like your shin, ribs and tailbone. I wanted more pressure, which I didn't quite get on feet, toes and heels and that totally baffled me because she clearly had the strength to apply it (just ask my tailbone). Even asked her to go harder on feet and I assumed she understood since she repeated the ask. It's not unusual for me (or anyone) to nod off, but I didn't this time. I had to stay awake to wiggle my feet a few times when I felt the massage getting lighter, so I could wake her up. She would wake up and try to make up for it until she nods off again. No biggie, coz I get it. You're sitting in a dark, quiet room, soothing music, just rubbing feet. Figured she'd make up for it when it's time to do the back. Sure enough, she got her strength back and I liked the elbow on certain pressure points, but it does NOT feel good when you use that pointy bone and press it hard on someone's spine or tailbone and I had to tell her this time that it was too hard. Sweeping the back of your arm was a better way to go. Like I said, hit and miss and made me wish I got someone familiar. So it's time to pay and they took my credit card as payment so that just blew up my theory as to why I couldn't purchase the 10-session cards, even though they have it clearly posted on the price sheet (cash vs credit) at the front desk. I've been a loyal customer since they opened, posted their very first review and even referred and brought them a bunch of customers. They are really a bunch of very nice people but you really need someone at the front who can effectively communicate with, and not frustrate your customers. read more

Just got done with another awesome foot reflexology massage with my husband for my birthday. We love this location for its cost-effective prices and professionalism. We usually choose the 60 minute foot reflexology because it helps loosen us when we feel tightness or soreness. When we enter together we usually get placed next to each other. The foot reflexology service is great because not only do you get a decent foot massage, but you also get massaged from head to toe so it's all over your body. The staff is consistent with the great service for the past 5+ years I've known this establishment. I wish we had it in our budget to go at least once a month. We usually go at least a few times a year. Tips: 1) Although they accept walk-ins, an appointment is highly recommended so they can be sure someone is available at your preferred time and so you can avoid waiting. 2) They charge $1 extra per service if you use your card so cash is definitely preferred (see photo). 3) Tipping here is expected and not your typical tipping at a restaurant. We usually tip at minimum $10. If you want to express your gratitude even more and have the funds to do so, tipping $15-$25 per service is appreciated. This also helps to keep the pricing reasonable. 4) One of their massage areas is literally right behind the wall when you enter so it's suggested to speak softly as a courtesy to those in their session. Otherwise others can hear you, which can be unpleasant when in a relaxed state of mind. 5) The ambiance is very calm and relaxing. They use low lighting even in the restroom, which is located in the far back right side. Overall, so happy this place still exists! We drive from Hayward to Union City since the prices are pretty competitive. Update to my last review - I go to The Pearl Massage every couple of months or so when I'm in the mood to relax and the experience here has met my expectations each time. While I have a different masseuse each time, you can tell that each one has been trained the same way so that I still get essentially the same massage, which I like. I always get the foot reflexology massage which in fact turns into a full body massage. For $25, you really can't beat that. They did increase the price by $5 due to cost of living, but I think it's still a price that is more than fair and certainly worth every penny. For those people that are not aware of how an asian massage place works, please please do not only tip $5 to your masseuse at the end. Just because it's technically a 20% tip does not mean it's a good tip. The reason that these places are so cheap is so that you can tip more. A good rule of thumb is to tip $15-$20. read more

I purchased a Groupon for a 60 min couple massage over a year ago, but got it extended due to the establishment closing because of COVID. I decided to use it when I noticed they finally have reopened so I called 3 days before to make an appointment for a massage in the evening (not telling them I had a Groupon because I have read previous reviews of their attitude towards them). After making an appointment they called me again to confirm the date. I arrive 10 min early with my partner and they greeted me were so polite and quick to get my appointment started. The mood changed after I presented my Groupon. He said they don't accept this voucher and that they haven't issued them in a long time. I had a difficult time understanding him because his English was not fluent. After trying to negotiage he finally accepted it and redeemed the coupon, and charged tip on my card. They asked me again what my phone number was and I repeated it twice, they suddenly said I was never scheduled? I showed them on my phone they calls I recieved from them a few days earlier to confirm that was their phone number and they said yes, but still expressed confusion. They then said for my type of massage on the voucher, they were too busy to see me. I then waited with my partner and we saw that no one had left while waiting in the lobby. When they finally took us in, the doors were open and there weren't any other clients in them, suggesting they were not too busy, but making an excuse. Our massage was okay (a little too rough), and the people who performed it were nice, but spoke in another language to each other which was slightly distracting. My shoulders, as well as my partner's were very sore after they were done. We left our room and at the front they gave us water, we thanked them, but then after I had already paid in the beginning they requestioned my tip even though I gave more despite my uncomfortable experience. The man at the front desk kept suggesting for more, but I declined due to the poor customer service. Later I had found that I had paid for the Groupon, they charged me regular price, and the tip, so technically there was no point for even purchasing the deal in the first place. The couple massage does not have the overhead bars for them to climb on you and apply the extra pressure so I prefer a single massage where the rooms have the overhead bar. Most 90 minute massages will run you close to $200 so I don't mind dropping a $15-20 dollar tip if the massage is on point. Prepaid for a one hour foot massage and I was immediately brought to the back common massage room. There's a warm water foot soak while the person worked on my scalp, face, neck, shoulders, arms and hands. After that came the feet and calves massage, and wrapped up with a brief back massage. Yup foot massage means full body massage (fully clothed), which is a steal for just $40. We called at 3:45 pm on a Thursday and they could get us in at 4:30 pm. I went with my husband and my mom. They put us into our own room that has two other beds. While they soaked our feet in warm water, they massaged our heads, necks and shoulders. Then they worked on our arms and hands. Our feet were taken out of the water and massaged and pressure points were pressed. The tops of our legs were massaged and our legs were pulled. Then we turned over and got our neck, shoulders, arms, back and back of the legs massaged. Arms were pulled and stretched. It was wonderful! The staff that worked on us spoke very little English but the receptionist who was also the owner was there to translate. The place is very clean. And we liked that we had our own room. $20 for a full hour was SOOOOO worth it! We happily tipped them $20 since the place we go to in San Diego is $40 for one hour.
