For our last dinner on vacation in Nantucket, we wanted to go all out. We did a lot of searching around, but one menu in particular caught both of our attention, and we decided to set our culinary sights on The Pearl, serving upscale, contemporary Asian fusion cuisine. The outside of The Pearl is deceiving. It just looks like an old house, and I figured the restaurant inside would also look like the interior of an old house. However, I was wrong by a long shot. The interior was absolutely gorgeous-- sleek and elegant, with a touch of a summery, beachy vibe that is quintessential Nantucket. We were seated immediately, and the restaurant was empty when we arrived. By the time we left an hour and a half later though, it was packed! Like usual, I knew exactly what I was going to order before we even sat down since I had to make sure they had vegan, gluten-free options before we decided to dine there. What really impressed me initially was that there was an amazing sounding salad and entrée that I could order without having to make a single alteration to to suit my needs and tastes. I could order exactly off menu-- no special requests needed! The meal started off with some bread and butter. I refrained, but my husband enjoyed these first bites. I ordered their Thai papaya salad for my appetizer. I have a slight history with this salad. Last week, I was watching Around The World In Eighty Plates on Bravo, where the contestants traveled to Thailand and were challenged to recreate classic Thai street food dishes. One of the teams made Thai papaya salad, and as soon as I saw it in all its vegan goodness, I knew it was a dish I wanted to try when given the opportunity. Call it luck or fate, but when I saw The Pearl offered a vegan version of this dish, featuring granny smith apples, cashews, Thai chili, Thai basil, lime juice and of course papaya, it was a no-brainer. This salad, no exaggeration, exceeded my wildest expectations by so much, that it officially now falls in my top five salads of all time, and it definitely finds itself near the top of that list. Every bite was bursting with sweet, salty and spicy. Texturally, it was a dream, with all the veggies perfectly noodle-ized (not quite a word I know but it is the best I can do!). The cashews were roasted and served as the perfect contrast to the tart flavors of the apple and papaya. I honestly could eat this everyday and not ever get sick of it. This salad got me so excited that at the table, I started googling where in Rhode Island I could find Thai papaya salad so I could get some at home asap. The salad was intended to be shared with the husband. . . needless to say that didn't happen, although I did give him a bite just so he knew what I was fawning over! The entrée I ordered sounding tantalizing as described by the menu: a Thai coconut green curry with veggies, jasmine rice, and tofu. This kind of meal is completely my style, so I couldn't wait to try it. If you asked me if I liked the salad or the curry dish better, I honestly couldn't tell you. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better at The Pearl, it did with this entrée. This green curry dish blew away any and every Thai curry I have ever ordered at a Thai restaurant. The veggies were cooked perfectly, the tofu was encrusted (which is a foodie first for me), the sauce was spicy and flavorful, and the rice fragrant as can be. I literally rolled my eyes with delight every time I took a bite. I didn't think I had it in me to eat so much, but you better believe I devoured that dish down to the last remaining kernel of rice. And when I thought it couldn't get any better, it did. Our waiter (who was as attentive as you can imagine) brought out a dessert menu, and of course I didn't expect I would be able to enjoy anything off of it. It's hard enough finding a vegan dessert on a menu, nevermind a vegan, gluten-free one! I did a quick once-over and closed the menu. If it weren't for the watchful eye of my husband, I would have completely missed the fact there was an explicitly gluten-free item on the dessert menu that ended up being vegan as well! Enter the vanilla mochi with blueberry tapioca, mango sauce, and puffed rice. Topped with a tropical sorbet, this dessert fulfilled each and every one of my dietary needs. . . but more important, it satisfied each and every one of my taste bud's needs as well. The real star here was the mochi cake, which basically tasted like vanilla rice pudding. Mochi is basically made of glutinous (but gluten-free) rice, and it has the texture of super thick pudding. The mini cakes were absolutely light and wonderful. Some piping hot green tea helped me pace myself between bites. Ultimately, I couldn't have asked for more from a meal and from The Pearl. At the end of the night, both belly, mind and heart were perfectly content. read more

It's rare that you find me at a restaurant as swanky as Pearl. In fact, I'm liable to hold them to a higher standard because of the hype and prices. That being said, I came to Pearl as a member of a bachelor party for what was a very special meal. My meal was a hamachi appetizer followed by the Wok Fried Lobster. It was one of those meals that you hold onto for quite a while later. I can't tell you the wine we had but, it was a revelation (French wine, smooth and velvety texture, and it was not at all condescending). I'd rather not describe the meal beyond that because I'm afraid I could not do it justice. Instead, let me just remark on the post-meal feeling. It was a meal so well done (in preparation and presentation) that for an hour after-wards, nothing was wrong with the world. In that fraction of time, I forgot about my worries and my day job and enjoyed a moment of being alive, on a little island in the Atlantic with some good friends and a momentary peace. On my minimoon with my hubby and this restaurant was exceptional. We walked by the classic New England style building to make a reservation. We arrived at 8pm for one of our most favorite dining experiences on ACK. The management reserved the best table in the corner and from there the experience catapulted. Brian was our server and completely helpful with recommendations. We ordered the special lobster ragoons that were luscious and melted in your mouth. We also ordered the pork and shrimp potstickers and tuna tartar martini. All Devine. The pot stickers were my favorite. The sauce was succulent so much that we used the crusty rolls to sop up the remainder. We shared the beef with sticky rice and Thai salad, very good! We thought the lobster stir fry but opted for this. Dessert was the chocolate drops - light, not overpowering chocolate. The Bea San Valentino is the wine to pair with this meal. A splurge but on this occasion we wanted something to remember always. The Pearl staff was exceptional and we will be back next year!! read more

Yelp led me astray on this one! I wanted to splurge here but this is definitely NOT a 4.5 star worthy restaurant: using my price to quality ratio, the Pearl can garner no more than three stars. This place will set you back a pretty penny, and I was so disappointed by both the service and the food. Firstly, our waitress was M.I.A., and not of the cool, Sri Lankan rapper sort. We dined late, and maybe our waitress was at the end of her shift or something, but she kept sneaking off to chat with her friends who were at the bar, leaving us alone for long periods of time throughout the meal. While I am usually patient about these things, I'd expect more at such an expensive place. Also, we were trying to catch the last shuttle back to our hotel so this was a little problematic when we were trying to get our check. Next the food- I tried the items as fellow yelpers recommended but almost everything was uninspired. The tuna martini was probably the highlight- I liked the sesame, and the quality of the fish was good, but there was a creamy sauce at the bottom that did not go well with the tuna. I also had built-up expectations for the esteemed wok-fried lobster, longing for a revelatory experience, but it was simply lo-mein with chunks of lobster. Although not bad by any means, it was also not special: you could easily make the same at home with some take-out and a tall boiler. If you're looking for a nice place on the Island try Toppers at the Wauwinet instead- the service and food there was much, much better and actually worth the price. Highly recommended and deserving of its praise. The Pearl has a beautiful decor and allows for romantic meals, intimate celebrations, and great dining. While lively, it is not loud and conversations can be had with ease. Drawing from its Asian influences, the Pearl does seafood in its own unique way. To start, my wife had a delicious arugula salad while I had the hamachi cocktail. The yellowtail was fresh and dressed with a savory and slightly spicy mayo. The peking style duck was delicious and served with amazing scallion pancakes. My wife's fish was outstanding. The desserts really shine at the Pearl. The pineapple rice pudding is a fresh take on a traditional dessert. The strawberry short cake replaced the traditional biscuit with carmelized mochi rice cake. Both were outstandings and left us craving more. There were several other dessert offerings that caught our eyes as well. Overall, the Pearl lives up to the hype and is a must-go when in Nantucket. read more

Yum! I'm still dreaming about my dinner at The Pearl. I got the famed wok fried lobster after reading some of these Yelp reviews, and man, it didn't disappoint. The lo mein was so tasty, and much lighter than what you'd get at your neighborhood Chinese takeout place. And the lobster. Ohhh, the lobster. Cooked perfectly and so so yummy. But enough about the lobster. Let me backtrack to the appetizer. We got the special, which was 3 kinds of raw or seared seafood with different sauces, served in what looked like a big martini glass filled with ice. So pretty to look at, and so interesting to eat! My dining partner got the Udon seafood soup dish for dinner and it was a huge bowl. He loved it, and I liked what I tasted as well. For dessert, we got the stacked bento box. So cute! Itty bitty chocolates and cookies in each stack. The peanut butter truffle was heavenly. The wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. Our bread basket and glasses were never empty. There is also a sommelier on staff to answer all your wine questions. Your meal will be a pretty penny, but worth every single one. Only complaint: The couch seating is set too far back from the table. Make sure you get a pillow to prop yourself up. read more

The Pearl was so disappointing. The decor was beautiful, the seating was comfortable and the reviews made us all excited to eat there. The appetizers were good. The quail over kimchi pancakes was tasty but not enough to make up for our entrees. The bok choy was very simple and authentic. I think the vegetable box was also nice but I don't remember it. Our entrees came out and were plated very nicely. The first bite of my BBQ beef was tasty, but with every subsequent taste I realized I was experiencing a salt overload. The meat itself and the sauce on the side were equally overseasoned. My dinner companions all had the same thing to say about the food-- way too much salt. Almost inedible. One of my party ordered the lobster dish, and at $60 it was a joke. The next night we went to Straight Wharf where the lobster was not only close to $15 cheaper but probably the most delicious meal I tasted during our entire stay in Nantucket. The Pearl is one of the more hip restaurants on Nantucket. The eclectic, Asian influenced menu is executed very well. I really enjoyed their Black Magic Noodle dish and their lobster is fantastic. Polite staff immediately sat us at our table. Server introduced himself and took our drink order. After getting our drinks he informed us of the specials and answered our questions about the 60 second steak. No they cooked it longer then 60 seconds he said, haha. The tuna tartar was really great and the Wok Lobster was fantastic. The 60 second steak was on a 3 oz size so we had to get a double order so we could get a full plate. They remembered my notes that we had a birthday girl at the table and brought out the desserts with a candle. Nice that they were on the ball and did not miss that time to shine. With the explanation she's given me about some of the behind the scenes challenges that occurred during the weekend of my visit to ACK, I have to renew my recommendation of the Pearl. The food at the Pearl is still fantastic...and if you don't try the Wok Fried Lobster, you missed the best dish on the Island. My previous issue was with service, but she's aware of that and working though some of the day to day challenges of being a business owner. My mom and I ate here for our first time. As far as the decor, it's ok, but I felt it could be better. The fish-tank type displays were a bit odd seeing as they had no water/fish inside. I also felt that the black/white water photos were not shown very well considering the walls they were handing on. I also didn't like the look of the barstools. As for the food: we got a fluke sashimi dish. That was very good. Then we got like a fried green tomato dish and a turnip 'tot' done in I believe a tempura batter. I was not impressed with either of these dishes as they basically tasted like nothing more than a 'fried' dish. Other than the fried batter, there was no real complexity or nuanced flavors to either of these dishes. For dessert, we got a banana dish wrapped in a type of 'crepe' with butterscotch(?) ice cream, and the other dessert was like a tapioca pudding I think, with passion fruit ice cream. I'd say that the dessert chef is the star of this restaurant. Both desserts were excellent...with a nice melange of flavors. I can't say I'd highly recommend this restaurant, though maybe it would be good for sitting at the bar for dessert and coffee. The service overall was very good. read more

The Pearl is probably our favorite restaurant on Nantucket. Every year we go and we have never been disappointed. Located on Federal Street, in an old Federal house, inside is a white modern dream. Pearl leather chairs, white sheers hanging on the walls, a backlit marble bar....it IS a pearl on the inside. Our first time there, we had an incredible waiter - we both had a fois gras appetizer that was seriously the best preparation of fois gras we'd ever had - so we ordered a second EACH! They are famous for their tuna tartare app (served with the most incredible cream, in a martini glass) and their oyster shooters - both will impress. Unfortunately, just about every time I go I get their lobster dish. If we go to the pearl more than once on our vacation (which usually does happen) then I'll switch it up - but I have to make sure I get my fix on their lobster! It is two tails cut in half and grilled, served over asian inspired noodles - it doesn't sound like much, I know, but the flavors come together perfectly. As most upscale resaurants in Nantucket, expect to pay a mint. But no matter - we never vacation in Nantucket without including a trip to The Pearl. Be sure to call for reservations as far out as possible if trying for a weekend in the summer. read more

This was place was great! The restaurant is located inside of what used to be an old house. It was classy and somewhat fancy. Definitely NOT a casual place. Parking was kind of a pain on a Sunday. Ended up getting lucky and finding a spot close by after taking a couple laps. Service: Hostess was sweet. Server was very quick and very knowledgable. Drinks: We got a 720ml of cloudy sake. No way i could pronounce the name. It was decent. I'd give it a 6/10. We also got sparkling water for the table of 3 of us. Appetizer: We got a plate of 12 oysters. They were served with a green chile sauce and some other sauce. The other had onions to I didn't pay attention to it. These aren't the small cold water oysters, they are the bigger warmer water variety. Not bad though. I still enjoy them. Dinner: I got the lemongrass beef. Damn, it was good. Served with daikon and carrots and sticky rice. I was very impressed. Cooked and season well. Cut thin enough. I loved it. Blonde got the halibut. Not to shabby. Don't remember the details honestly. Dessert: I got the "What's the Buzz?" Cocktail. Was delish! Also a cup of coffee from a French press. 3 of us ended up with $400+ tab. That's the only reason they lost a star. Instead too dang expensive for what you get. I would still be back if I visit Nantucket again. read more

We had a reservation for 6pm, and when we arrived we asked if we could have an open table in a corner. We were told we could not have that table because it was reserved for later and we might not be done in time. About two minutes later, a party without a reservation walked in and was seated at the same corner table that we were denied. They were told they had to be done by 7:45, but we were not given that option. (We were in fact done by 7:45.) I asked about this and was given a tepid apology by the hostess, but nothing was done to address the issue. I think what actually happened was that they didn't want to have to turn away a walk in party - but this resulted in treating the walk ins better than a party who had reserved - not to mention that we were essentially lied to about the availability of the table. This is a bad approach, especially for an upscale restaurant in an area with a lot of frequent restaurant goers. The food was very good, the decor is beautiful, and the service was OK. read more

My husband and I dined here for our anniversary as I heard great things about this restaurant from friends and the concierge at our hotel. The food was good (not amazing) and the ambiance outside was fine. Between the two it was sure not worth the price fix $95/pp. The food was good, not the best food in Nantucket by far and what really surprised us was the ambiance and service. I could justify going back if the price was lowered to maybe $60-$70/pp but at close to $100 you get a small appetizer and the dessert they offer is minimal (microwaved chocolate chip cookie). Absolute favorite Nantucket dining experience - can't be beat. Any time we have a special occasion while on the island this is my go-to. Amazing, fresh food with an oceanic bend and an Asian twist. Most recently we tried the lobster rangoon - everyone was floored by the flavor. I had the softshell crab entree with baby bok choi which was delicious. Boyfriend had the bbq beef which was seasoned to perfection. Parents had the vegetarian/buddha's delight dish with tofu which they LOVE, but I find it to be a little too gingery for my taste. Still, everything was great. Normally I will dress up for The Pearl, and you'll see well-dressed couples dining beside you...but since this is Nantucket (where my dad famously fought a parking ticket in court wearing board shorts) there will be some sloppily dressed people who simply don't care about dress codes. I'd advise a little nicer than usual - but you'd never catch me in front of a judge in my bathing suit. read more

When in Nantucket, The Pearl is a true classic that cannot be missed. Despite having been a mainstay for awhile now, they never seems to lose their desire to up the ante and create novel and interesting dishes to surprise and delight. During our most recent visit, we were truly awed by three appetizers that may be some of the most delicious I have ever tasted. The baby octopus was a perfectly crafted dish. From the lemon tempura, to the perfectly cooked octopus, to the ponzu-based sauce, it was tremendous. One of the most best dishes in recent memory. On top of this, we also had a crudo trio which consisted of a Hawaiian poke type ceviche which was flavorful and fresh, a tuna taco with spicy pickles that was nothing short of spectacular and a uni bite that will forever remain memorable (the combination is true genius). Lastly, hats off to the chef for his take on the potsticker. In a time when potstickers are generally relegated to subpar Chinese restaurants, this iteration does not disappoint. Given the tremendous start to the meal, the entrees did struggle to measure up (this goes to show how wonderful the starters really were). However, the wok fried lobster was very delicious and the miso-glazed cod was perfectly cooked. The kim-chee broth that was served with the cod was very tasty, however, ruined a bit by some very sandy littlenecks that were steemed in the broth. Also, the BBQ beef dish was a bit overcooked and lacked the punch that we came to expect after the start of our meal. Alll in all, this was still one of the best meals I have ever had (on the island or elsewhere) and is a must try for those visiting Nantucket! read more

Ya girl can usually only afford to dine here during restaurant week, but Angela & Seth always have me craving the Pearl and drooling over their Instagram posts. Now that the questionable cocktail choices of my early 20s are in my past (bye blue long islands and tequila sunrises) I now see the merit of their $17 passion fruit cosmo. It just takes one sip and I can immediately justify a treat yoself moment by having multiple cosmos there versus a mediocre vodka soda elsewhere. The lobster rangoon (yes singular, you get one per order), is crispy heaven on a plate. The yellowfin tuna martini is always a nice light option to get some raw fish in before the big show. Their holy grail is obviously the classic salt and pepper wok fried lobster with lo mein. Years ago at their former sister restaurant Corazon Del Mar, I drank the koolaid and become addicted to their Krack sauce. I'll always order a side for my noodles, and beg that they start bottling it up for sale again . Their scrumptious desserts seem to vary but the baked Alaska and and mini cookies I've had in the past were top notch. Definitely a great option if you're feeling like splurging, it's worth it! read more

The food was good. Maybe a little on the cliche side. The stuff that had "heat" really didn't have a bite at all. The chicken buns were good and probably the most original thing on the menu. More like a pulled chicken than actual dim sum. The "award winning tuna martini" was good, but quite cliche. Shisito peppers were bland. Wok fried lobster was ok to good but not sure again what the rage was. Maybe I'm a food snob. But I will give four stars for food like this. However when I saw the bill I was a bit outraged. Wow, I knew this was going to be a good place, but it blew our minds. When we got to Nantucket, we wanted a beautiful meal, nice atmosphere without too much pretension, and something different. We've had our share of Berkshire pork chops, lobster rolls, filet, you get the idea... When I saw the tasting menu here, I knew I had to try it. Every single course was gorgeous, in presentation and in taste. We sat inside because it was unusually cold for September, but we were so glad we did. The ambience is cozy, elegant and intimate. It feels historic but also new. The service was fantastic, not too much, but just enough attention. The food was outstanding, all of it! The tempura fried (very light) wok lobster course was one of the best I've ever had. The tuna martini was insane! The Lo Mein alone was delicious, all of it was beyond amazing. I highly, highly recommend. Everyone was nice, the atmosphere was lovely and the food was some of the best food we had on Nantucket. Great job Pearl!! We'll be back. read more

Very pretty decor - very South Beach, and very pretty (though too low), pearl colored leather banquettes, sheer white curtained walls, etc Very good food - my god that lobster dish. I am a convert - no more lemon, gimme some lime with my lobster. Kudos too on the heirloom tomato salad - that truffle dressing is just plain addictive. Very good cocktail list - I must say I love this current trend toward cocktails with infusions of herbs. The tequila thai basil mojito was so good I had to share it with all 3 people at my table. Very snarky waiter - he brought the wrong wine and made no offer to correct the error, and I also got sarcastic wit in return for some silly, funny comment I made. Dude, derogatory doesn't work when we have your tip money! .....and bring more bread while you are at it. Also of note - very expensive - bring cash, lots and lots of cash. read more

This really is a wonderful restaurant. We were there in early September, so it was basically half empty. We got to skip the "in spot" vibe of the summer season and had a leisurely meal. The service was spot-on. The lobster dish and the steak tips were AMAZING. The only downside--the modern decor was unexpected for the look of the historic house, and I don't want to look at a cloudy fish tank when I'm eating. But the food makes the trip well worth it. read more

What a treat (after the night before with horrible attitude from another Nantucket eatery) to go to The Pearl. It's very well run -- a tight ship, as it were, and in July on Nantucket, that's saying something! Our server, Marina, was great. She had recommendations about this dish or that dish and the bustling support staff around her was always on top of it. I mentioned to my friends that I wished I had a spoon to get the rest of the soup-like sauce that came with my halibut and one magically appeared. They overheard me as they walked by and just got one. They were paying attention! And the food was great. Both appetizers we ordered were terrific and everyone loved their entrees. And we shared bites and all thought they were great around the table. Our cocktails were excellent, as well. The place is packed -- and justifiably so -- so it's a bit noisy at times, but it never got crazy. The setting is sleek and sophisticated and darkly lit which was good. It's expensive -- but everything in Nantucket is expensive! But, here, you didn't feel like you were just getting the big bill for average fare or service. Quite the opposite. This is a fine example of one of Nantucket's better, overpriced restaurants. It is a very popular place and the food is okay but be prepared to spend some serious $$$$. Unfortunately some of the other, lesser known and outside-of-town establishments that never get found by the tourists fall by the wayside due to The Pearl's great location. I could probably give this place 4 or 5 stars if the prices were a bit more reasonable. The signature dish is the lobster. I suggest you stick with that as your main course. read more

Having dined at the Pearl over the years, I have developed my list of favorite dishes (much like everyone else's) and tend to always get the same things. So when coming to island solo and looking to get takeout during COVID, I was thrilled to see that not just one of my favorites was available on the prefixed, but ALL of them! Over the last few months I have ordered takeout from other high end restaurants, and they've all been...okay, so I was a little apprehensive about getting another fancy meal in to-go boxes. However, it's clear how much pride and love they have put into each detail! Every detail was well thought out; from boxing the cracker for the tuna martini separately as to not get soggy to the beautiful labels and bottled cocktails (love the espresso martini!) to a handwritten note from the chef/owner. Ordering was very simple, a week in advance options open up, and you will receive very clear texts when the meal is being prepared and then ready. It was ready exactly at the time I had chosen, and the woman at the front was very efficient and my interaction was very brief, allowing me to get home without needing to rewarm anything. I chose the "surf" menu and from the first bite of lobster rangoons, I couldn't stop smiling, it was just SO good. It's as though this pandemic had made my taste bud lose hope to ever have great food again, but now, this meal was reawakening them, and I was excited for each bite! The Tuna Martini was always a highlight on past visits, and it didn't disappoint (although with no martini glass in the rental, I had to get creative). And the real showstopper, the Wok Fried Lobster. Holy. Moly. Not just a whole lobster, but 2 claws AND 2 gorgeous tails. And the sauce, well I want to drench all my future mediocre takeout meals in it, because it was incredible! The meal hit every note just right, and to finish were two simple chocolate chip cookies, just enough sweet to put the perfect punctuation at the end of a divine meal. As a chef/owner myself and having dealt with new restrictions and challenges during this time, I want to applaud the Pearl for not losing hope and giving us hope with a beautifully executed meal. Bbq short ribs were almost pure grissle. Rangoon wonton was good. They did have knob creek smoked maple bourbon which is a rare find in a bar. But the entree was terrible. Would not return here. read more

Wow what a great night! Had a fantastic dinner on the sidewalk in historic Nantucket on a beatific night. The amazing lobster lo mien was the best dish I ate in 3 days on Nantucket. My wife's halibut was so fresh and equally as memorable. The food was matched with incredible hospitality during such a difficult time. Tiffanie confirmed our reservation promptly after requesting a late arrival and Shelia took care of the rest. I wish I could remember our waiters name he was awesome!
