When this was the Peasant's Courtyard it was good with excellent service. Since it has become just the Courtyard with new owners the quality has gone way down all around. To be fair, it has just changed ownership in the past couple of weeks. However, these new owners say they have had other restaurants. It doesn't feel like it. I've tried twice. Once for a lunch shrimp salad with dressing on the side and bread. Some of the chopped lettuce was brown around the edges. The dressing was not on the side but glopped allover the salad - way too much cheap bottled dressing. My bread came as almost toast about time for dessert. The service was sloooow and indifferent. The second time was today for a try at breakfast. The service was faster, but just as indifferent and careless. I did get to overhear the server go on at great length to her friend about her college(?) research project. I ordered scramble eggs with potatoes and toast. The extras in the scramble were good - bacon, tomatoes, spinach and cheese. The eggs were hard and brown. The hash browns started the day as a frozen slab of shredded potatoes that got fried to about 2 seconds short of burnt. The bill for this breakfast was $25.00 with coffee. (Yes. A little on the high side given the poor quality.) I initially tried to pay with cash - two $20.00's. The server said she couldn't make change. This is a half hour before lunch service started, when the cash register should be full and ready for business. Note: A regular server who provides terrific service was not working either of my two visits with the new management. That area could improve when she is there. This is one of my favorite places for lunch. I was there yesterday with a friend and we arrived about 11:30. There was one waitress, that is it. We were about the third customer when we arrived but by the time we left the place was packed - and again, there was one waitress. No bus boy, no cashier, just her. Don't get me wrong, the young lady was doing her best, and always with a smile and warm greeting for those walking in, but it was very clear she needed help. As we were leaving an older gentleman picked up a bin and started bussing tables. Clearly, they need two servers and a bus boy for the lunch rush. It is like that most times I am there. Love this spot! All the staff here are wonderful, polite and kind. We usually place to go orders for our staff lunch and I was the one to pick up the food this time and had an amazing experience. I came in and another staff was able to ask if I needed any help. While he was busy, he asked the main host (?) woman in a pink hat today assisted with my pick up. They are very attentive to our order, following up on my order and offering me an ice tea while I wait. I'm very happy to be the one to pick up the order because the service here is amazing! Couldn't been treated any better. Can't wait to bring my friends here for a brunch date. ***update: we just opened our lunch and the salads have been mixed up so we were pretty disappointed. The salmon salad I had ordered didn't include the Caesar crumbles, but had bleu cheese inside (yuck in my opinion) and my coworker's didnt have any bleu cheese at all in her Black and Bleu salad which she was super looking forward to eating. I was meeting with friends for lunch and one of them recommended this place to try. Apparently they have sister locations in other places as well, such as Walnut Creek. But going to Alamo and trying this place out, it was a welcoming experience. You can sit inside or outside, and we chose to sit outside. I will say that the service was a bit underwhelming. We were only seen once for refills of our beverages. I know we were outside but I would hope we would be seen a bit more or checked on then just once after we received our entrees. Onion Rings: I got this to share and it was really good. The cilantro ranch dressing was a nice touch and there were plentiful amount of rings to eat. They were crispy and not too oily, which was a nice touch. Alamo Chicken Club: This was cooked really well and had a bunch of flavor for a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon. The wheat bread is a plus for me, since it added that rough texture to go with the crispy bacon. The chicken was grilled perfectly for me, with the right amount of seasoning. The fries were very crispy and none of them were wilted. The addition of cilantro to the fries were also good. Overall, I had a pleasant time coming here. Could see myself coming again, although parking is atrocious. read more

This is my mom's FAVORITE place to go out to eat. We had yet another wonderful lunch here today - I had the Nashville Crispy Chicken Sandwich (with honey-mustard close slaw and slices of dill pickle inside - DELICIOUS!) and Mom had a generously-portioned French Dip sandwich, medium rare, and she loved it! We always get the Pear Quesadilla (with an astounding sweet dip) as an appetizer, and we washed it all down with their refreshing organic sweet tea. Don't let the heat keep you from visiting! They've had a big dip in business in these heat waves, but you can absolutely enjoy their nice, cool indoor seating. You don't HAVE to sit in the courtyard. read more

this place was really good back in the day, the food has really become just mediocre. Of the four meals in our group 3 of them suffered poor presentation, overcooked mediocre flavor. My go to place for lunch with girlfriends. Usually Sandy is our server - she is super welcoming, she knows us and what we like to order. Always checks on us and makes us feel special. Today Chuck and Susie, Kathy and I had lunch w/ Sue. We did takeout from The Peasant's Courtyard, which is close to Sue's house. I drove to Kathy's house so we could drive together. She had gathered orders from all of us and before we left she called in our order, a hamburger and fries for Chuck, a shrimp Louie for me, a Chinese chicken salad for herself and tomato soup for Sue. Susie brought her own salad, as she's on a special diet. We drove out to Alamo and found the restaurant. I waited in the car while Kathy went in to pick up the food. Then we went to Sue's house. Sue was delighted w/ her soup, which looked really good, but then I'm a big fan of tomato soup. Chuck seemed pleased w/ his hamburger. Kathy really loved her salad, even more than she had expected. My shrimp Louie was terrific, w/ 5 plump shrimp on a skewer, a halved hard boiled egg, sliced avocado, halved plum tomatoes, a mixture of baby greens and chopped romaine w/ Louie dressing. It was exactly what I wanted, in terms of quality and quantity. I would definitely have it again if I have the opportunity to do takeout from there again, although there were other dishes on the menu that looked interesting too. read more

The included side salad was spring greens that were slimy and well beyond sell date. Another friend was very disappointed in taco salad which has no salsa, chips or guacamole. Not sure why it was even called a taco salad. Mushroom sandwich is basically bread with a small amount of mushrooms. The food is very bland. I recommend you go somewhere else. read more

A cute small restaurant tucked away in a small lot just off the main road. Would definitely recommend eating in the outdoor courtyard that I assume is where the name comes from. It has a nice peaceful ambience. Service was great - very friendly and attentive. For food, I ordered the Rodzilla burger with fries. The patty was perfectly cooked, and the crispy onions were very savory. The fries were also very well seasoned and crispy. We had takeout, The good: smoke chicken salad sandwich was awesome. It has inspired me to try smoking chicken on my own to reproduce it. Ordering was straightforward and food came out quickly. Courtyard outside looks very quaint and well-shaded. The bad: though the food came out quickly, a worker said he needed to check with someone. After a couple of trips in and out and some eye contact led to nothing, I had to remind him and I'm not totally sure he actually ended up checking with anyone. We paid extra for soup alongside the sandwich and got a fruit cup instead. We also got the Louis Salad but I'm not sure we can adequately review it. I'm not sure if there was any dressing on it because it seemed bland and there was an empty plastic container (which I assume was meant for the dressing) inside the packaging with the salad. To be fair it was dead in the middle of lunch-time and seemed packed so I can imagine things get overlooked. That same worker seemed to be working hard and was dealing with some wrong orders from the kitchen. What did seem willful though was that awkward moment when you're asked to select a tip. The lowest option was 25% and the others were 30 and 35% I believe. Even for a sit-down that's quite an ask. You can obviously decline to tip or choose a custom amount but in my opinion, there's only one reason to present those as the pre-selected options. read more

Had a very nice leisure lunch with friends. It was a perfect Fall day. I arrived there at noon. I took the last table outside in the patio near the water fountain. The water fountain was very soothing. Right away I was greeted by a very nice waitress. As I was waiting for my friends, the waitress gave me menus and a glass of iced tea. The menu was pretty big. It had a large selection of salads, sandwiches and burger. This is located in Alamo so the prices were a bit pricey. I ordered the smoked chicken salad sandwich. The sandwich was filled with chopped smoked chicken, cranberry and pecans. The smoked chicken was the star of the sandwich. It was delicious. While the courtyard itself is quite pleasant, the brunch meals at our table were not. Our food was lukewarm by the time we received it, to the point where my friend's Hollandaise sauce was drying out on top of her Benedict. Avocado on my egg dish consisted of three small half slices, and tomato was two small bites. It simply didn't taste that good, especially lukewarm. The waiter tried to upsell by telling us all of the reasons why we needed to return. I don't recall ever receiving advertising while eating at a restaurant. The restroom was dark, dingy, and smelled strongly of urine. It badly needed cleaning and a coat of lighter colored paint. That alone makes it highly unlikely we will return. Obviously, after visiting the restroom I wondered about kitchen cleanliness. Final conclusion-- very nice courtyard, but the rest, not so much read more

Just had the most absolutely absurd service response on mother's day of all days. Somehow they were too busy to switch over to the lunch menu at 1:10 PM?! So our only options were hashes and other breakfast dishes. The staff seemed unprepared to handle busy holidays, we had been told to wait 5-10 minutes for indoor seating and we waited close to 25 minutes. After we were seated we then learned that their normal lunch menu was unavailable. Their lunch food was pretty great actually and the service will make me rethink going here unfortunately. read more

Cute little spot, but unfortunately the food was not great. I ordered the burger which was described as wagyu beef on an artisan bun. Asked for it medium. It arrived very well done, very dry, and definitely not anything special. The meat was like one of those frozen burger pattie's you get at the grocery store. Save your $18 and get a burger from Five Guys just down the street. On top of that, I asked for salad on the side and received a pile of spinach with some flavorless dressing. Lots of stems, a bit wilted. Very sad. I only ate about half the burger and didn't touch the rest. Waitress saw my plate and didn't even ask if I had liked it- like she knew it wasn't good. Wow. 10/19/24 lunch The best food I've had in years. Innovative specials in , courtyard setting. I had had the daily special which was a very elevated and simply fantastic grilled cheese sandwich with fresh ingredients. I've never had anything like it and the best part was that the top of the sandwich was crusted in cheese like the spill over fried cheese when making a grilled cheese sandwich. It came with a yummy tomato soup side. My friend had the french onion soup (yummy!) and asian salad special. Lots of pieces of grilled chicken and I can't remember the rest.
