Old things become new, and sometimes they become majestic. Peel Craftbar and Kitchen is in the old Doubletree by the Outlets of Orange, which is now called Hotel Fera, a DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton. That's a mouthful. Basically, it has it's own stylistic name, but is still a DoubleTree Hotel that has DoubleTree standards. Along with the name change, the hotel freshened itself up and in some ways, reinvented itself. Its lobby is brand new and they finally decided to showcase their bar and hotel restaurant. With Peel, the hotel knocked down a meeting room wall to open up preexisting, three-story-high vaulted ceilings which makes for a stunning place to grab drink or food. High ceilings for days. Fully length windows for days. A bar with windows that air out and open up to the wood deck patio. A wood deck patio that has fire pits over looking their lush landscape and flowing stream. In a way, it's paradise. The menu at the Peel is ambitious in that they have dishes from so many cuisines and all are done well. There's flat breads, fish tacos, ahi tuna poke bowls, bucatini, pear salads, pan roasted salmon, fried chicken sandwiches, shrimp and scallop ceviche... Pretty much something for everyone. Agave Summer - Passion fruit, tequila, Ancho Reyes and fresh lime, this blended well together, with the passion fruit playing strongly and letting the tequila just enough room to make itself known. A moderately strong but easy sipping tequila cocktail that isn't overly sweet. Coastline Shrimp and Scallop Aguachile - This was like a ceviche. Fresh chunks of shrimp and scallop with tomatoes, red onions, yuzu, avocados and thick tortilla chips. A light dish that was full of flavor that I couldn't stop dipping into. Recommended. Pei Mussels - If you only get one thing on the menu, get these mussels. These mussels are cooked in a gimme-another-spoonful coconut curry that is perfection and would rival anything you would get in any fine dining establishment. The yellow curry soup is spicy with a kick but not enough to make you sweat. The curry flavors are rich. The toasted, buttery ciabatta slices will not be enough to sop up all of the soupy base. Ask for more bread because, heck, you only live once. Dip and repeat until the bowl is dry. Pear Salad - This dish didn't look that impressive but tasted great. Endives with poached pear, mixed greens, candied walnuts, goat cheese and vinaigrette all played well together. I would order it again. If you get a burger or sandwich, be sure to get the potato chips instead of the fries (well get the fries if you want). Their potato chips are fresh cut and fried in house. They are so, so good. Don't say I never told you so. I was very surprised and impressed with the Peel. They reinvented the lobby bar to make it a destination, but still kept everything in a reasonable price range with wide ranging selections on the menu that are done well. The space is majestic and relaxing at the same time, depending on if you are sitting inside or outside. The servers were great. The good thing is that you can walk over when you are done shopping at the Outlets of Orange. I do not know if they validate for parking. We had read some of the wonderful reviews on Yelp about the drinks and food and thought we'd try it. When we arrived we were greeted by the valet and told them we weren't checking in but were looking forward to some cocktails and food from The Peel. We were greeted promptly at the receptionist desk and asked to sit outside as it was a beautiful evening. A few moments later our waitress came by and took our order. We ordered a couple cocktails (the Fera and an Empress Martini) as well as a couple appetizers (prosciutto flatbread and the Ceviche). After about 15 minutes my cocktail (the empress martini) was delivered. Another 15 minutes (at least) went by and finally my wife's cocktail arrived. We were assured by our waitress that our food would be right out. For the next 30 minutes we enjoyed the cocktails and began longing for an appetizer. The Fera cocktail was excellent by the way!. Finishing our cocktails we decided after 1 hour that was enough. We paid for our cocktails and left. The bright spot of the night was Alex at the valet who was apologetic and sympathetic. Oh wow. I came here for a date night with my husband based off their good reviews and it was such a disappointment. Went Dec. 20th around 6:30/7 and all around it was a mess. We had multiple servers and they had no communication with each other. One male server was particularly sassy when he asked 20 minutes later if he took our order and we said no. The martini I ordered really had the saddest olives I've ever seen, so soft I couldn't even eat them. The menu was terribly dirty and quite honestly it was embarrassing to even read off of. The 2 dishes that were good were the ceviche and the poke bowl. The Cesar I ordered would've been fine if it was dressed in accordance with its menu's description but it was missing a pepita nut that I was rather excited to have. It wasn't packed that day but you did notice the staff waiting on larger parties much more. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you were already at the hotel and needed food. Luckily the hotel does validate so you may park right in front but I wouldn't return based on service and quality. This place needs some serious guidance. The portion is great as a shareable item or a meal as itself. The flavor combination was perfect! The steak was cooked perfectly and the vegetables and potatoes were really good. What a pleasant little spot located inside DoubleTree by Hilton. The bar does give off a welcoming and cozy feel. Only came here in hopes of good drinks, which there were! My girl and I ordered the Dragon Fly and Como La Flor cocktails. Both were slightly strong but delicious. Hotel Fera Anaheim, a DoubleTree by Hilton, is adjacent by UCI Medical Center and has this small boutique style restaurant/bar called the Peel on the first floor. Upon parking in the garage, you'll walk towards the front of hotel passing the front check-in counter and will eventually spot this well lit contemporary bar area. I spotted the host stand as it was awkwardly facing away from me and towards another door. The hostess named Grace walked towards us to welcome us and checked us in to our booth/table. She noticed we had a little one and commented that they had kids items. After a brief wait, a waiter introduced himself and took our order. We asked about kid items, and he responded that they didn't have any. It was conflicting what the hostess had mentioned. He suggested I order the Fade to Black and I agreed. Hat Trick: $19 (5/5) Duck Fat Washed Whiskey, Amaro, Demerara, Bourbon Barrel Aged Bitters. While you can taste the richness of the duck fat, the drink was well balanced with the bitters and syrup. Nice stamped clear ice. Fade to Black: $18 (4/5) Knob Creek Old Fashion, Walnut Bitters and Cinnamon-Infused Simple Syrup. It was smoked and slowly uncovered by the waiter. While I do like the show, the smoke over powered the complexity of the bitters and syrup. Nice stamped clear ice. PEI Mussels $17: (3/5). White wine, coconut curry, garlic, Fresno chili, grilled ciabatta, Spanish chorizo, Toasted Bread. The mussels and coconut curry were a great pairing. However, the toasted bread was completely burnt and ruined the experience of soaking the broth. Skuna Bay Salmon: $35 (3/5) Pan-roasted salmon citrus emulsion, roasted butternut squash, quinoa, brown rice, local seasonal vegetables. The salmon was cooked well and not dried out. Unfortunately, the salmon was over seasoned and the brown sauce around the salmon overpowered the salmon flavors. I did not think it was a citrus based sauce. While we did appreciate the local baby vegetables and brown rice/quinoa mixture, the extremely small food ratio will be leaving you hungry. If I worked by UCI and wanted to grab a drink with a co-worker for a special occasion, I would definitely consider coming here. These drinks are expensive but they are made with care. As for the food, I did not think it was spectacular and the other menu items listed were mediocre. Since I do not live close by, I don't believe I would be returning here. The restaurant is located in a hotel, so you have to park either in the parking lot right outside of the hotel or in the parking structure (get your ticket validated at the end so it's free to park). You walk right in and you see the restaurant, so it's easy to find. We had a reservation for 7 PM on a Saturday night and the restaurant wasn't very busy, so I think you won't really need reservations to get seated right away. I ordered the French butterfly cocktail, which was really tasty, and the salmon for dinner which was also very very good, but the restaurant really gets five stars because of the service. Our waiter was named Alberto and he was awesome the whole night. There was an older couple who asked to change tables because they got a little cold where they were sitting, and he immediately moved everything for them to another table where there was warmer seating for the couple. So I went to a convention at the hotel. I didn't have breakfast at my apartment before I headed out there because I didn't want to run into LA traffic, so I wanted to have a decent breakfast at The Peel. There was a family of 4 or 5 waiting in front of me for a HALF HOUR and I was turning back and forth and they were still not being acknowledged until the last minute. FINALLY even with FOUR open tables already being there, they were being seated. Another guy at the convention offered to share a table since I'd just met him and we were waiting way too long. He said "Okay, I'm just going to leave in 5 minutes if we can't get service. It's been around a half-hour and so far 3 waiters have just ignored us." I said, "I hope they don't charge us for all the tasty oxygen we just had." Went here twice already in less than a month! the food and drinks are gooooooood! Last time i ordered their Parisian steak sandwhich which was really tasty. The steak had really good flavor and the chimichurri sauce that came with it just added that mwha to it! This time I decided to try the burger and I am just a happy camper with it. The burger was perfectly cooked to medium rare and the bacon jam adds the perfect savory but slightly sweet note to it. It went extremely well with the burger. Also has the Korean wings, these are dangerous because they are delicious and spicy, I def had the sniffles after two wings and I have a high tolerance (one chip challenge completed with ease), worth every bite. Great flavor without being overly saturated in sauce. Chicken flavor comes through nicely and a great balance of crunch and tenderness throughout. Skin had the perfect texture as well. I highly recommend if you can hang - I dare you. Ceasar salad was good, dressing was a little heavy, could do with a table spoon less. Where to start!?! Absolutely blown away at the level of professionalism, dedication and care shown by the staff at The Peel and FERA Hotel this past weekend. Our baby shower was held on Saturday and not only was it beautiful it was taken to a whole other level with the attention given by the staff. Everyone was very attentive, patient and THE FOOD was DELICIOUS! The cocktails were OUTSTANDING (I had mocktails but even those were made to perfection!) I cant wait to go back after baby is born to have the alcoholic version of the drinks we had that day because they really were a treat. Found this spot on yelp and the pretty drinks pulled me in lol. It's located inside the Fera hotel. You can park in the structure and get your ticket validated at the front desk. First off the bar is beautiful. They also have a really nice outdoor seating. Customer service was great. I think our server was Dylan. He gave us a few recommendations. Food came out pretty quick. The service was lackluster unfriendly however. It's a bit brightly lit too for the vibe, but it is in a hotel lobby. Would probably be back, hoping for better service next time. Such a bad experience. The only good thing, were the drinks. We made reservations 3 hours in advance and were traveling from LA with a tourist from Nevada. We waited 10 mins for them to set a table of 6, when we asked about our reservations they said it just secures your spot not your table.
