He knew the menu inside and out, made excellent wine pairing recommendations, and truly elevated the entire dining experience. The food was outstanding. Party of 7. Celebrated Mother's day here a day early (Saturday). We got seated in the patio outside court yard. Our waiter provided us waters while we reviewed the menu. Ordered cocktails and beer. All arrived in a timely manner. It was refreshing. Drinks were good. I ordered Ceviche and some spaghetti along with other main entrees that were on the menu. Spaghetti was alittle salty. The ceviche was good. The food was mostly delicous. Overall our stay here was pleasant. We sat in the patio area that provided umbrellas to reflect the heat from the sun. It was definitely a warm day. Decor was nice. The thing I must warn you about is sitting in the patio area.. do not wear white shoes. The Gravel mixed with rocks and dirt will get your shoes dirty. Try not to move your feet if you are wearing white shoes. The food was pricey. Everything starts at $20 plus. Going back to the spaghetti, the entree was $27. I literally had five bites using the fork and the plate was clean! Meaning I did not get my money's worth. Entrees are good but willl feel like you just got short changed. The service was good. 1 out of 5 for food sanitation I'd been wanting to try this place for a long time, and Mother's Day brunch finally felt like the right occasion. At $85/person, it fell short of expectation. The good: the staff was wonderful, and you can tell a lot of effort went into putting together an ambitious buffet spread. The bad: the outdoor food area had a real sanitation problem. Flies were constantly landing on exposed food: bread, salad, shrimp, you name it. It was hard to eat anything out there in good conscience. The indoor station had a fly fan (smart!), but the selection was just crackers and dessert and the cheese was completely gone 1.5 hours before the brunch even ended. This should have been a special, stress-free experience. Covered food stations or moving the spread indoors would go a long way. I really wanted to love this place. A very cute spot for delicious food in Anaheim. Parking can be difficult. We ended up having to park along the street. The restaurant is open air and the majority of the tables are outside with some coverage. The service is great. Everyone was extremely helpful and they made sure everything was made in a way that we were happy with. All of the food that we tried was cooked perfectly. It's not only nice aesthetically, but it also tastes as good as it looks. The portions are fairly large and are good for sharing. They also let us know that a lot of the components of the food are grown in their own garden at their location. The atmosphere is cute, bright, and airy. There's a nice breeze on a March evening and the noise starts off light. We opted for the tasting menu on our reservation (prepaid on OpenTable). Once we arrived, they provided us with drink menus and our tasting menu. The atmosphere is casual but trendy. It's clear there's no sommelier. The answers about both the wine pairings and the zero proof pairings were vague, and the wine fan of our group looked at the small wine list and was wholly unimpressed. Service is friendly but could be tighter. Water went empty. We used the same utensils from start until the last savory dish. No tablecloths or coasters meant our drinks sweat onto the tabletop. They did graciously show you the way to the restrooms and were more than happy to take our group photo. What is impressive are the flavors. Some felt it was slightly under seasoned, but the nuances of flavors and how your paste shifted through each bite was impressive to me. Their food was served hot, but the plates weren't so hot you could burn yourself. Each dish was carefully introduced even with a tasting menu at our table. Bottom line? Why was it like im in a cute little park? Poppy and seed is place in the Anaheim packing district plaza, placed on the other side of the block with the park in between. I came here for a birthday and our server Breanna was amazing! We had photo ops and many recommended plates, which we all ended up ordering. Perfect venue for a holiday party! Our party of 9 had a private patio with plenty of heaters to keep the temperature perfect on a chilly evening. Restaurant looks like a glass greenhouse next to the Packing District. If you don't want to deal with parking there is valet parking behind the restaurant and a free parking garage on Broadway. Our group had the 9 course chef tasting menu plus our generous host ordered a few extras for the table. The menu waiting for us on the table was personalized which was a nice touch! Our waitress was fantastic and did a great job with our group. We kept the food on one bill but she took care of separate bar tabs for our cocktails. Everything we had was excellent. Courses were spaced out with perfect pacing allowing us to eat without being rushed and never waiting long for the next course. The house seasonal jam adds a bright, fruity contrast, while the honey butter makes it feel indulgent without being heavy. The sausage gravy was okay, smooth and mild, but the biscuit truly stands on its own and doesn't need it. FRIED CHICKEN The two wings I got were shockingly juicy, crispy, well-seasoned skin on the outside and incredibly moist on the inside. Not dry in the slightest. The chicken was so tender it practically fell apart, and yes, it was messy in the best way. Easily some of the juiciest fried chicken I've had. The bread here is really good and they give you three different types of butters. I ordered the pork chop. I'm a smoking meat cooker at home. The flavor of the pork was overall okay. It was a bit dry. Everyone ordered different items on the menu. My favorite was the trio of lamb. The lamb chop was perfect. Easily the best dinner entree I tried. All the other entrees are also high quality. So are the drinks. Really friendly staff. Literally spoke with the waiters for awhile and they gave us advice on where to spend the rest our night. We could not find any parking, so we had to utilize the valet parking behind the location. Regarding the restaurant, it looks great inside and out. It has a green house vibe with soft lighting outside. We were seated pretty quickly in the rock area outside. The hostess was friendly. It was cold that night, but our server turned on the patio heater. For food, we ordered the Duck Tacos, pasta, and Brussel sprouts. The duck tacos were fine, and the shells were interesting. The pasta was good, but the portion was more appropriate for a child. The Brussel sprouts were fantastic and plentiful. Based on my observations, the starter/appetizer portions were larger than some of the main entrees. The problem I had was the fact that some of the portions are too small for the prices. Tried this place for the first time and will definitely go back. The packing district area can be crowded so we used a Lyft to avoid parking. Glad we did because this place has a great cocktail program with knowledgeable and friendly bar tenders. We opted for the chef's tasting so we could get a good sample of what they're about. The gnocchi was soft and delicious, the proteins were well cooked. I especially enjoyed the smoked duck, the acid of the salad really complimented the richness of the meat. Now if you are familiar to the area, you know that parking is always a problem. They do have valet, street parking and the Packing District has a lot. I parked on the street and walked over. I recently went to Poppy & Seed for a work dinner. I knew I had been here before but couldn't remember if it was good because it clearly didn't leave a memorable impression the first time around so was excited to try it again. After my recent visit, what I'll say is that the service was absolutely on point, cocktails were delicious and most of the food is great. Every time I'd ask our server for something, whether it was more olive juice for my dirty martini or luxardo cherries for my Old Fashioned, he would come back right away with what I asked for which I truly appreciated! Where I struggled was with the entree. I got the skirt steak, and I hate to say it but it tasted like beef jerky and not like quality meat. The inside temperature was medium rare, but the steak itself had little to no flavor to it and the outside was charred way too much. My friend got the Chicken Schnitzel which looked delicious, but it seemed odd that the chicken breast was so thick rather than a thinly sliced piece like most other schnitzels. Out of the appetizers, the Octopus and Hamachi Crudo were my favorite. The char on the octopus was delicious without being overpowering and the flavors overall were delicious. The Hamachi was also tasty, but the sauce tasted like fruity pebbles for better or for worse. On a breezy and cold night, the patio is not an ideal place to sit at all. That's where we were originally sat, and I'm so glad we were able to move inside the restaurant, which is very small and has limited seating. read more

The Black and Gold felt like a rum-forward take on an Old Fashioned; might be the best I've ever had. The food ranks among the best in Orange County. We started with the Marinated Olives, Stuffed Squash Blossom, and the Milk Bread (all of which were delicious but the milk bread was outstanding). For mains we enjoyed the Pan-Seared Diver Scallops and the Spiced Pomegranate-Glazed Iberian Pork Chop, both superbly cooked and full of flavor. For dessert the Poached Pear and Almond Cake were perfectly portioned and delightfully light, not overly sweet or heavy. We had a good experience with the staff here, we had a server that was attentive to us the entire time we were there and had a friendly personable attitude, she joked with us and made the atmosphere. We came for brunch on a weekend and did not have to wait long for seating. We were seated inside the the greenhouse. Personally I liked the atmosphere inside. It wasn't too hot and the lighting in the morning made for some really good pictures. The food is ok, typical brunch food. At these kinds of places I usually get the burger and it was not bad. I did like their hash browns which were like bricks of mashed potatoes. My friends also said they liked the hot sauce. read more
