    Barbecue beef sandwich.
    Paul Y.

Hotel restaurants are seldom my first choice for dining, but because I'm here in Orange, CA with no car, I didn't have a choice. I was happily surprised. Their menu is quite limited and very standard hotel fare. Not bad, just not very exciting. The waiter listed some specials and one surprised me: Smoked beef, served on a toasted bun, housemade potato chips, dusted with paprika, and housemade coleslaw. It was served on an ordinary, rectangular plate. No wooden planks, shovels, or Mason jars. This was very much a point in their favor. The beef was generously portioned. Probably about a pound; easily enough for two. It was fork tender, perfectly smoked, nicely crusted on the edges, and slathered with enough barbeque sauce to be perfectly accompanied, without making it a sodden mess. The bun was excellent. Fresh, plump, a very slightly sweet taste, and grilled to a crunch on the inside. Buttered, but not greasy. The sauce was more to the spicy side, than sweet. It had a distinct tomato and pepper flavor and hint of smokiness. It was not thin and not thick, actually perfect for my taste. A side cup contained extra for the sandwich or the chips. The chips were thick, fresh, and nicely dusted with paprika and other spices. Not terribly salty, but well balanced. Again, a large helping. Only slight letdown was the coleslaw. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either. Heavy amounts of raw, strong onion. A thin, oily, tart, dressing. Served at room temperature. Just not to my taste. Service was excellent. Fast, friendly, but not overbearing. The decor is basic hotel brown, but honestly, I'm going for the food, not the seat cushions. Cost came to $18 and change, including a soft drink and before tip.

Located inside the Doubletree Hilton, where reservations is not required. For breakfast they have All You Can Buffet American Traditional Breakfast and each day rotates with pancake, waffle, and french toast. There's a lunch menu and a dinner menu. The service is very friendly and efficient, as they are on top of many things. They will be renovating to become even more modern to match the newly renovations of the lobby. Nice space and comfortable seating. The Cajun chicken alfredo and the five cheese Mac and cheese are amazing in flavor and big portion for lunch. A great place to dine and not too overly expensive for an in House restaurant at a hotel. Homemade gelato outside of the restaurant is a must!

Warm, freshly made bread. Took the picture after buttering the first baguette. I couldn't resist! :)

Very friendly staff. They helped me with suggestions. Sampled wine that waiter selected for me after I told him what I liked (didn't see dessert wines listed in the menu) and it was great! Very clean, well-lit interior with comfortable booths. There are also tables. Menu prices vary from $9 - $25 depending on the item choice: appetizer, soup, salad, main entree, pizza from scratch or salad. Glass of wine $11 at the time of my visit. Noise level acceptable from surrounding guests and kitchen staff working. Manager walks around checking that clients are comfortable. Waiter swings by periodically to check on me and let me know the progress of the order. Time of wait 10 - 12 minutes with low level traffic. Chicken moist and well seasoned, risotto well executed, lemon/white wine butter cream sauce added lovely contrast of tanginess and an accent of saltiness. Lovely crunch on a well-cooked asparagus. Portion sized reasonably: leaning more towards starch and veggie but at least 3 - 4 ounces of protein(see my pic) Oh my! On the dessert! I am stuffed, happy and don't care about a thang! LOL

Maple glazed salmon with bbq mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies (broccolini & sweet peppers pictured here)

Can't be too picky when eating inside a hotel restaurant! Tried their Cajun Alfredo with blackened chicken and added seasonal veggies (broccoli, sweet whole mini chili peppers, and diced eggplant) today. Lunch portion was large enough for 2 and fettuccini pasta was aldente but the flavor was sub par. Dish tasted like pasta doused in cream, rather than the southern flavor that its "cajun" name suggested. Veggies, although rather large (broccoli florets were the size of Half my palm), were firm and delicious. On another previous few trips in the past, tried their chopped market salad, carver sandwich, and maple glazed salmon. Food was ok but nothing to rave about. Service deserves 3 stars but can't complain because they're trying to serve large convention groups in a short amount of time.

    Doubletree, Orange, CA. / Trofi

Trofi has surprisingly well prepared fresh entrees for a hotel restaurant. The lamb shank was was just that, a whole shank, very tender and not over done. The roast chicken entree was juicy hot and delicious. The menu description included braised leeks. Mashed potatoes were on the plate too. I immediately noted this to the waiter, disappointed that the leeks' portion seemed diminished by the giant dollop of startch. The waiter instantly offered a side of fresh veggies to me. Soon a side plate of lightly grilled al dente carrots, asparagus and broccoli florettes appeared. Above par food and service at a very reasonable price makes Trofi a good bet.

Food so so for both breakfast and dinner. $16.50 for breakfast buffet is a bit much even for OC. Not much variety for vegan diners.

The coffee is also fantastic, and I'm officially counting down the days until they get a full bar. Steam tartare was good but I wouldn't get it again because they had a lot of capers and the caper berries. Just a bit too salty for me. Octopus was great. Grilled to perfection with the sauce. I got the bread from the reviews recommending it, but J would personally pass this one too. The larger slices were a little stale and not pleasant. Just warmed up to make it seem fresh. The service was good but the execution of the dishes had a bit extra to be desired to make it standout within its category. I went here on Saturday with my partner, arriving a bit later than half past noon. There weren't many people too many people here yet and we were seated promptly. The service was good the entire time and didn't have any issues. The decor was very nice, I do enjoy the more green or plant aesthetic they had going with the plants on the ceiling. Although, I would like to see them differentiate themselves more as it's only just nice and not amazing or unique. We ordered the Dashi Pesto with Scallops and the Pork Jowl with lettuce cups. I found the Dashi Pesto with Scallops to be good. It was a bit overly salty to my taste, although my partner said it was fine. They did mention that the scallops were only seared on one side and not both sides though that wasn't something I noticed or missed. I do have some issues with a 30 dollar dish only having three scallops on top, four would've been acceptable. These issues for me brought the dish down overall, although still delicious. The Pork Jowl with lettuce cups I definitely enjoyed more. It was cooked very well with the meat being pretty tender. The ssamjang aioli was delicious and paired nicely with the entree. I could've used more lettuce cups but that's a personal preference as I'm more of a vegetable heavy person. I enjoyed this place a lot. It would've received my yelp 5 stars or my person score of 8/10 of it hit everything perfectly. My yelp score maxes out at my personal score of 8 out of 10. Very close to being a standout place for its category if it can fix up the execution.

The space is BEAUTIFUL, both during the day and at night. When we checked in on Friday evening they even had live music, but unfortunately I was feeling a little sick so I skipped it and told myself I'd redeem the experience the next day before heading to Disneyland. And I'm glad I did. In the daytime, the patio area is gorgeous--you can really appreciate the firepit seating and the little lake with koi fish outside. Such a relaxing vibe. We came by around 4PM to pregame before Disney and the bar was pretty busy. Huge shoutout to Arvey, the bartender who took care of us during our visit. Not only was the service exceptional, but he genuinely made some of the best cocktails we've had in a while. Sitting at the bar and watching him make the drinks was honestly part of the experience itself. At first we were trying to customize and tweak our drinks because we usually stay in our comfort zone, but after talking with him and learning more about the ingredients in The Peel's specialty cocktails, we decided to trust the process a little more. We ordered the Dragonfly and Playing With Fire, and both were amazing--beautiful presentation, really balanced flavors, sweet and sour in the best way. We're usually not big foam cocktail people either, but this visit might've changed our minds a little. Also, Playing With Fire came with a fun little presentation moment which made it even better. Honestly, I was really impressed with my experience here. I even came back for another drink at breakfast before checking out of the hotel lol. The dining area also looked beautiful and the food coming out to other tables looked really good too. Definitely looking forward to coming back anytime I'm around the Anaheim area again.

Parking validation is done at the front desk. They have a solid menu of appetizers, entrees and desserts and a very nice craft cocktail menu. It's sectioned off at the south east end of the lobby and feels like a more open space than a standard restaurant or bar and the vibe feels very OC, hipster, upscale. The only downside is the service is not consistent the last two times we've been here. The night we visited, there was a singer playing piano between the bar and restaurant area. I love entertainment at any venue, but the sound was way too loud for indoors and we couldn't hear each other talking. The reason I suggested The Peel for dinner was because I've been able to have conversations with friends and catch up without any competing noise from neighboring tables or crowds in the past. Maybe call ahead of time if there's going to be entertainment and if there's an event in town (Motocross was happening this weekend) to gauge the crowd and noise level before you go. The bar is fully stocked and they have a lot of craft cocktails to choose from and the drinks are consistently good. I had the Como la Flor cocktail this night and in the past I've enjoyed the Fera & the Dragonfly cocktails. The appetizers are great to share with your friends and there's lots to choose from. I enjoyed the Brussels sprouts and the mini sliders a lot and my friends really loved the chorizo flatbread. For the entree I got the smash burger and it's pretty filling and rich. You get fries with the order and the fries are perfectly crispy and tasty. For dessert we got the bread pudding, lemon cheesecake and lava cake. The lemon cheesecake was like biting a slice of lemon with some sugar. It's definitely for lemon lovers and I enjoyed it. Bread pudding ice cream was good but the bread pudding was alright and you can't go wrong with lava cake. Again, my only issue with the Peel is the service. It's not very hospitable compared to other restaurants I've visited. There was a bit of a wait from when we were seated to when our server showed up. He took our orders, the food and drinks would show up, and after that we didn't see our server for a while, so we were without drink refills and our table had dirty dishes that just sat there. I glanced around a few times and saw no servers on the floor, a server that was not ours that was far away or would try to flag one down for a refill on our waters but they were quickly leaving the area. We were waiting on the check, but just kept talking instead and then finally, when the check came we were in mid conversation catching up. He stopped by a few minutes later, picked up the check and realized we had not put our cards down to pay it and came back and dropped it off again. We paid using Google-Wallet at their point of sale system and sat back down to finish our conversation and the busser asked if he could remove the dirty dishes on our table and said, in a rude tone, "Yeah because we're closed already." We didn't realize they were closed since there was still a large crowd of people at the bar, and he could have said that in a polite way and said thank you for coming, but he made it known he has to set his jars of jam down on the table for breakfast tomorrow. Honestly, had our server come by much earlier and checked on us and left the bill, we would've left before closing. I don't usually think of a hotel restaurant as a go-to for dinner with friends, but this is the only one in a while that I would recommend because the vibe is unique. I hope the service improves, but other than that it's a solid restaurant.
