We waited about a half an hour to be seated for brunch, and their menu was cute, but I should have asked to look at It in advance. It's easy to get stuck on one thing like the pancakes, but, if you change up and try different things you realize how good it is across the board. So so so gooooooood! I ate here for brunch today and was thoroughly impressed! Firstly, the atmosphere is super cool. I love the colors and the paintings and the feeling of almost being inside a garage or a bar, but you're in a breakfast/brunch joint. The service was also great. Everybody was super nice and accommodating, and one of the cooks even came and told us how they make their waffles with sugar all the way from France. Super rad! However, those aren't the most important parts. The real important part was that the pancakes here were mind-blowingly delicious. They were perfect. Fluffy, but dense with this amazing lemon charred butter on top. My only regret is not being able to finish them because I was so full. I will definitely be back here sooner than later. Tried it for the first time last Friday. I like the atmosphere but was disappointed with the experience. Main item was the wait. It took 45 minutes to get our food after ordering. I was not impressed with the menu either. I ordered breakfast, which was good, but I didn't care for the lunch options. My friend ordered the pulled pork which came out as just pork without being pulled, if that makes sense. On the plus our waitress was very nice. read more

When I took my family for brunch yesterday, I was only disappointed by the slow service (30 minutes for a poutine appetizer that was cold by the time we got it) and the poor service (I watched the bartender pour well vodka into my bloody Mary when I had ordered Tito's). Today my bigger concern are the terrible effects of apparent food poisoning which have kept me home from work. Maybe is was the food; maybe it was the drink flag that looked as if it had been hastily assembled from condiments by an ungloved bartender or server; maybe it was the reusable plastic straw that got me. Maybe that cook that we could clearly see in the kitchen taking selfies shouldn't have been handling his phone. The interior is cool, but I don't recommend visiting this place. read more

Really loved getting brunch at The People's Kitchen this morning! The last time we were here was when they first opened The Street Kitchen food truck so we were definitely overdue for giving them another try. We loved the good vibes and the food was amazing. Our server, Lara, was also great. I ordered the Fluegeler sandwich and my boyfriend got the frittata. We also ordered vegan mushroom biscuits and gravy for an appetizer and the really f@&$?!g good pancakes to share. I loved everything about every dish, but would highly recommend the frittata and the pancakes if you are looking for breakfast fare. The frittata was unlike anything I have tried before and was cooked perfectly. It also came with home fries and toast. The sandwich was loaded with deliciously seasoned portabella mushrooms and roasted red peppers. The olive sauce was delicious and was a little thinner than other olive sauces I have had in the past. It came with dill and sea salt fries which were excellent. The pancakes were huge and dense. They were extra filling and absolutely amazing. The hint of lemon complimented the syrup that came with it really well. We'll definitely be back! read more

A 3.8 star restaurant with 5 star prices. I was excited to stop by for lunch here as they had a few vegan options. An hour later and still no sandwiches in front of us, we started getting antsy. It was quite busy, but they had a well staffed kitchen and the menu was truly not that complicated. So our 'quick' lunch ended up being almost two hours long, and nobody seemed to care that much. The bar sent another beer which we didn't care that much for in the first place. A lot more to improve when you are charging $15 for a sandwich! read more

Literally waited over 2 hours for toast eggs and sausage. I could've cooked a 3 course meal for 10 people in the time I waited for a basic breakfast. I asked the waitress why it takes so long and she said that "we have a craft menu that is hard to make." I mean first off wtf does craft mean. And second if your menu is difficult to cook and takes a long time then simplify it. And our meal came out in bits and pieces. The food was okay. There was way too much salt on everything. We just waited an hour and a half for 2 pancakes (1 order) and a scrambled egg plate. We arrived at 8:30, it wasn't busy. This is the 3rd time that we have been, all visits have been this long. With 2 kids, it's sheer misery. The pancakes were f'ing good, as advertised...but an hour and a half??!! And not getting half and half for coffee is not cool, and the coffee is not good. So we have been twice now and both times have yet to disappoint! Our first trip was on Mother's Day in which they were EXTREMELY busy, however we were made aware of that when entering, the waitress was very attentive, apologetic about the wait, and super kind to my kiddos which is always going to be a plus in my book. Before I get to the food I'll discuss the wait... what people have to understand when visiting is that this isn't your everyday Denny's or IHOP, this is quality food that is fresh and actually being COOKED by real people vs a microwave. It takes time to do that. As long as I have great customer service and attentive wait staff I am always willing to wait for quality food. We ordered the coffee because we walked in and overheard a conversation about it being locally roasted and it did not disappoint. On the food...we moved here from Houston, Tx which is a city of amazing food and we had not been able to find that here in Lansing just yet until our visit here, for appetizers we ordered biscuits and gravy which blessed my soul it was so amazing and rich and opposed to most places it actually had sausage chunks in the gravy which was delicious. Along with that we ordered what I would describe as a pork belly and grits bowl for a second app(yes we love to eat lol) and the pork belly accompanied by the delicious sauce they drizzled over the top of it was top notch! For our entrees we ordered pancakes which I cannot stress to you enough is a MUST TRY, the butter has a lemony sweetness and the syrup is a blessing. My husband ordered a steak and eggs platter and I'm not sure I've seen a presentation quite like it (will post pictures of course). An honorable mention would be the geechie boy grits bowl we had the first time we visited. I'm a foodie so of course I have MANY more visits to go so that I can conquer the menu lol, but if you love great food, instagrammable atmosphere, and amazing customer service then you without a doubt have to visit People's kitchen!! read more

Just came back for the second time. That pork belly and golden hash is amazing. Definitely my favorite now. The vibe and atmosphere is not only super inclusive and inviting but they also play some great music. Anytime I hear old school OutKast I know it is the place for me.
