This is back in the day, we know everyone old time Colorado. Park the car or hitch up your ride to the front and prepare to enjoy delicious diner style fare at its best. I76 has some real gems and the Pepper Pod is one of those. The restaurant is basically 100 years old, but the current owners have been in charge since the early 1950's. The menu will have a wealth of history and information on it to get you up to speed. Now the order and since this is a diner, open faced hot beef sandwich for both of us. After having this dish in practically every state in the Union, THIS is beyond the absolute best ever. A portion is really enough to feed two very hungry people. The cut of meat was done just right and the gravy was superb. Of coarse there were mashed potatoes but unfortunately they get second billing when it comes to the main item.....the roast beef! I managed to eat all but the potatoes and stayed full for the rest of the day. This is a must stop. A bit noisy and can get crowded if you are seated on the main drag from the kitchen. But in all this is the Hot Beef Capital of the world! Good on you guys! read more

Here is the issue we are having with this place, we decided to eat at the pepper pod for lunch after church, and had a table of 6 so we walk in put our name in and wait, a group of 4 comes in and some guy asks "how many and what's the name" so anyways he sits them down and my husband politely asked why they were sat down before us, and this guy says it so rude and loud we could hear him, he said "well they had 4 you had 6 and they were here 10 mins before you go sit down" so we immediately decided to go somewhere else because of his rude attitude, so before we left I told him that he didn't have to be rude and talk to people like that being an employee at a restaurant and he decided he was going to push me out (Don't think he knows it's assault, and to make it worse I'm visibly pregnant) and he tried to tell me he was the owner but obviously we know he wasn't, so we will be talking to them. I don't recommend going when he is working, he is rude, unprofessional, and likes to put his hands on customers! read more

First off I am a local and have been eating at the Pepper Pod for decades. But just as important, my wife and I may also find ourselves in downtown Denver on a Saturday night eating at the highest rated new restaurant as well. So we are well aware of the full gamut of dining available in the Denver metro area. What you get at the Pepper Pod: 1) A convenient location (around 30 minutes from downtown Denver on I-76) with an old-school cool atmosphere that is perfect for the meal you are sure to enjoy there. 2) Friendly staff that are genuinely happy you stopped in. 3) A menu with plenty of selections to satisfy the pickiest eaters in your group. 4) A great meal that will leave you wanting to come back and try something else on the menu. 5) A nice surprise when the check comes and you realize how reasonably priced everything was for the quality and quantity of food you ordered. You won't get a see-thru aquarium with baby sharks, a waterfall behind the bar, the latest exotic menu items currently enjoyed by celebrities in LA and NYC, nor will you have to worry about pushing thru the gauntlet of paparazzi while you are waiting for your reservation. For myself and my family, we truly love going there and I bet you will too. Here is the best tip I can give you, if you are a chicken fried steak fan, try the one they have smothered in green chili instead of white gravy, It is FANTASTIC! I live in Hudson, so this is by no means the first time I have been here. In the last month family and I have been here at least 3 times. And sadly, each time has been worse than the last. On a Saturday at 10:40 a.m. we went there with 5 adults and 1 child.. we were told that breakfast was no longer being served. Odd. We were also told we had to wait to be seated so the kitchen could get caught up and clean the grill. Also odd, as there were roughly 6bvb other tables. Nowhere near full or even busy. So as we waited for our table, and of course the kitchen to catch up to this "rush" they were experiencing, we watched at least 5 large parties walk in, were told breakfast was no longer served, and walked out. This was all before 11 a.m. in a small town with one single restaurant (besides a pizza place) Doesn't make much sense. I'll be driving into Brighton from now on. I've only eaten here once but I'll definitely be back to try some other menu items. I had the best bacon cheeseburger that I've had in years here. The beef was absolutely delicious (I'm guessing they grind it themselves), the bacon was thick and excellent, and they even served homemade Ranch dressing that is do die for! I am a native Coloradoan and have been to The Pod many times before I moved to GA for 20 years. I came back a month ago and have eaten there twice based on how good the food USED to be. The first time I have a burger and fries. The fries were luke warm with a large bun compared to the size of the burger. I went tonight and I will not be back! A couple who came in after me, got served first and I got my water when my salad came. The salad was not fresh. I had the fried chicken dinner. I was told the chicken had already been cooked so no waiting. The broccoli and mashed potatoes were barely warm. The butter did not melt on them. I asked the waitress for hot food. She brought warmer broccoli. I had to ask for hot mashed potatoes. She was pretty annoyed she had to make another trip. They came back bubbling and too hot because all she did was nuke them. By then, they did not even look like mashed potatoes. The chicken was luke warm and tough. She did not come back to see how the food was, I had to get up and follow her to get the hot vegetables. I told the cashier the food was not hot when she asked how was the food. She said "That's not good" with no offer to make anything right. She did not look at me during this transaction but kept her head down, so I knew she really didn't care if I was satisfied or not. I will NOT be going back which is a shame because I live close and pass by frequently as I make trips to Denver. The food used to be very good every time I went. But the Pod got 2 strikes and they are OUT. read more

The Pepper Pod has been my favorite for years! Their breakfast is absolutely the best I've ever had! I recommend their malted waffles, all of their omelets, bacon, breakfast burrito smothered in green chili & biscuits with gravy. Their lunch and dinner is so good if you know what to order. The pork chops, prime rib & chicken teriyaki with rice are my favorites. They have the best salad bar in this part of town! Their mashed potatoes with white gravy are to die for!!! They also have homemade pies! They make the pies on Tuesday's so the best days to get them are the days following Tuesday. They'll be short of pies sundays and Mondays! read more

Almost everything on the menu was either fried or very unhealthy. The spaghetti/meatballs I ordered, the meatballs were so hard I couldn't cut into them with a fork! Service was ok, but it took a long time for us to get our order. Prices were high for quality of food. No one in our party had anything positive to say about the taste of the food. read more

I've been in the area with the pepper pod my whole life. Gets lots of local and traveling business. I like going to meet friends or family to enjoy a cooked meal, I don't cook so I may bee more critical than others. I remember as a boy the food was fantastic and was always a treat to come. Sometime in the 90's it began to go down hill I my opinion. Only really 2 things on the menu I can really stand anymore. Really really miss the buffalo burgers, that was my fave. And the chicken fried steak was to die for. No more, the size of steak changes each time drastically and just is bland and in exciting. Biscuits and gravy were loaded with sausage. No sausage flavor anymore. Maybe I shouldn't compare to what used to be but with a limited number of places to go I can't help but miss the way it was. Can't help but be irritated that when I go there is a group of people waiting in the foyer (still do good business) and always a group of young wait staff huddled around the cashier as if they had nothing better to do. Waited 15 minutes one time after they just opened for breakfast and empty place and full foyer wondering where everyone was at. Locals either love it or hate it but go anywaysdue to lack of choice. Oh well, that's my 2 cents. Would love to see them go back to the old ways. read more

So sad!!! We have been regulars here for years. We do takeout either to take to the lake or on the way home from. It is a pretty simple order fried chicken - 2 whole fried chickens to go w 2 xtra breasts. OMG!!!! Paul was AAWSOME!! Listen for real, here is the deal. My mom has lived in Hudson CO, for about 12 years now, she's 67. Needs my help every few weeks to work on things. I live in Congress Park, downtown (Denver for the Hudson locals). We usually have dinner at the Pepper Pod when I can while here. Tonight we couldn't make it so decided to get a to go order. I picked up, and batta boom batta bang!! No problem. Got home with my delicious French dip, cup of soup for mom, and wow sat down to eat, yummmm!! Had to run to car and grab the drinks. Boom, Lilly , my dog( she's in big trouble) eats in two seconds 3/4 of my sandwich!!! Wwwhat! And my little one "Bop Bops" 10 lbs , is sitting below her devouring the scraps. Sooooooo, I'm out a sandwich....... THEEEE, reason for my post is, I called, of course, to pay for another sandwich. My mom is 2 min from PP. because dang ! I'm hungry! We haven't gone in a long time for some reason we just got delicious chicken fried chicken and it was so good. 1 month later we ordered Hungry As A Bear and I got the pancakes until I realized. There was A FLY BAKED INTO MY PANCAKE it shows how they should pay attention to what they are making because somebody didn't care if they noticed it still one year later and we still haven't gone to pepper pod. read more

September 4, 2016: We visited the Wild Animal Sanctuary just down the road from Pepper Pod in Keenesburg. That involves about a three-mile walk to see all the animal paddocks (if you love wildlife, that's a worthwhile visit as well), so we were ravenous when we left. On exiting the highway, we'd seen Pepper Pod, so we decided to try it, and were glad we did. This is eastern plains home cookin' with upgrades. The menu mentions that the 100+plus year old restaurant is now owned by a family whose daughter graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in NY before returning to work at the family biz. Her influence was evident, as were the place's roots in small-town midwest. We enjoyed two of the Sunday specials, the chicken fried bison and the pan-fried pork chops, classic midwestern cooking. Both were delicious. The sides included steamed vegetables, which were great and pure...no salt or butter...and real mashed potatoes with cream gravy, also delicious. Most entrees came with the soup and salad bar, and that was nice also...nothing fancy, but decent selection, mixed greens...would have liked to see tomatoes among the ingredients. We had two picky young teens with us, but they were well-satisfied with the mac and cheese and simple spaghetti with butter. If you're from a small town, you'll feel comfortable and familiar here, and if you're from far away, you'll feel like you've gotten a glimpse into a local institution...the small-town diner... but it's way better than diner food and service. read more

A lil pricey for the penny pincher but If you good at spending money like me don't hesitate cuz it's worth every penny. A true oasis on the plans as one of there signs says amongst the scattered wall of western relics. An Amy the owner/chef is hot as shit. Why not enjoy your meal an see a fine ass lady well you doing it. My favs are the three cheese ravioli with white sauce. The are you as hungry as a bear breakfast. The ribeye breakfast. Bad. I would give it one less star if I could. Family went there for a treat and everything was room temp or cold, even the soup at the salad bar was room temperature. I have never written a bad review because I know that some restaurants just aren't on their game.. But myself and at least one other person from my group were up all night throwing up and we are still suffering today. Unless you're beyond needing reasonable taste, temperature and quality for your food I would not suggest this place for your evening outing. read more

This is my last visit to The Pepper Pod. I believe it's day as a fine establishment are over. I would have complained yesterday but I could not find an adult working anywhere near the cash register. The service was slow and our waitress Michelle was rude. I could tell the locals were much better treated than my table. I would imagine I eat here about once a month, this was once again a poor experience. Everything was over cooked. Our waitress never checked on us after bringing us our food. The check was given to me with a half-hearted "do you want a refill?" I should have said 20 minutes ago would have been nice, but the waitress was way to rude to confront her. My kids and wife could not even eat their fries, too overcooked. My sons chicken fingers were soaked in oil, once again because they were overcooked. I almost left when we waited ten minutes for a table when half the place was empty at 2 in the afternoon. The bathrooms are dirty and it looks like a two year old caulked around the fixtures. I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like after seeing the bathroom. The Pepper Pod is hit and miss, I will choose to miss. The acid test for a restaurant should be this: Would a Big Mac and fries been better than what I just ate? A Big Mac and fries would have beat the hell out of yesterdays meal. I can pay less money for rude treatment from kids at fast food establishments. read more

Great food. Great service. My boyfriend and I are from NY and CA respectfully and while there are many things we LOVE about CO, dining options is not one of them. For some reason I will never understand, chain, bland food dominates this great state. When we do decide to eat out it is a CHORE to find a place that isn't a chain and is reasonably priced. When we do - after much consternation - arrive at a choice, we generally leave the meal disappointed and vow only to eat in from that day forward. So you can imagine our great joy when - after simply deciding to grab a bit of roadside dinner off I76 - we happened upon the Pepper Pod. Expectations and hopes were low as we sat down to order, but the beautifully fresh salad bar began to turn our mood. The rest of the meal - prime rib for me, pan fried pork chops for my guy - was served at a pleasing pace and was -- DRUM ROLL - WONDERFUL, TASTY, PERFECTLY PREPARED. We savored every bite of this meal that included fluffy warm rolls and perfect potatoes with homemade gravy and are ecstatic to live only 40 minutes away. We will be back! Thank you. Thank you. After visiting the Pepper Pod twice in the last month and finding a black hair in my food each time, I can honestly say, I will not be back for awhile. The first time it happened the waitress was so apologetic, fired a new entree and even brought out dessert on the house. This last time, I was promised a new entree quickly. After waiting 15 minutes and having the rest of the table finish up, the waitress came by our table and said let me go and check on the status of the entree. She was gone for another 10 minutes, walked by the table and said she forgot about it, her fault. At this point, everyone had ate and we were ready to go. It was now 25 minutes later from when every one else got their entree. I finally told the waitress I didn't even want it. She hands us the ticket and still charged us for the entree. I had to ask her to remove it from the bill. I can understand the waitress cannot help what the kitchen does but she contributed to the poor dining experience. So disappointing. All the while, the owner stood in the kitchen. You would have thought the waitress would have informed him of the situation and he might come out and apologize on behalf of his staff, nothing! read more
