Man this family owned & ran business is awesome. PEPPER POD has history dating back to the early 1900's, maybe even longer. It's nice to go to a restaurant knowing what your ordering is raised & or grown right here in Hudson Co. No store bought items...the beef they raise & I tell you, the flavor is to die for. It's aged perfectly! They serve pork chops there that are always supper moist...wish someone would share their secret. Breakfast is right on! When you stop in make sure you order their "french toast". They use sour dough & the portion is huge with a choice of meat. I get the bacon & it's not cheap & flimsy it's thick and flavorful. I can't say enough. ..I love everything I've tried to this date & recommend anyone driving thru the northeast end of Colorado stop in, but make sure you have an empty stomach. I have been coming here since I was a kid! This restaurant is a staple in this small community, and ALWAYS busy, so be prepared to wait for a table! But if you can wait for a table, this is some of the best home cooked comfort food around! The portions are big enough to feed an army, and if you have ever thought about trying Rocky Mountain Oysters.... This is the place to do it, they have the best I've ever tried! This place was so bad it was kinda funny. At one point the food and service was so bad I started looking for video cameras cause I thought we were getting pranked. Hardly any one there...took 5 min to seat us..sat there 15 min ..waited another 30 for the food...showed up cold and over done. Hostess moved us two times and kept giving me crap about where to put the baby high chair. Waitress rude, smudge and angry. My steak was $25 and all fat. Go there if you wanna spend $60 bucks to be treated badly and eat horrible food. read more

Went here today. We are long time customers, we have lived in the area our whole lives. We stopped by the pod for breakfast this morning and were very disappointed. Our breakfast was not good at all and the service was just awful. My husband ordered a blueberry pancake with an egg over easy and bacon. The pancake was delicious but the bacon was burnt and inedible and the egg was not overeasy. Close to being overhard, but it did have semi soft yolk so I guess you would call it over medium? I had biscuits and gravy which was good until I was finished I noticed egg yolk dried on the edge of my plate, I did not have eggs so gross is all I can say. We probably will not visit the pod again, lately the whole place has went totally down hill, they make it so we never want to go back. read more

I'll say this was probably the best b-fast we have had in a long time! It was wonderful. We went on mothers day which was a little bit of a mistake but the wait of 45 minutes was nothing compared to the happiness endured in my belly for hours after the meal. My wife had the breakfast burrito and she said it was awesome and not to mention well hearty worth value served. I had the Pepper Pod Omelet it was excellent, and almost a little too much even for the hungry man. I also tried the smoked ham and it was good. The place was busy, and the staff was friendly. Pepper Pod has stood the test of time as it opened its doors in 1913. It has been around because this is good, down home, fresh cooking served by a very friendly staff that aims to please. Friday special was Fish and Chips served with a soup and salad bar. The fish was fresh and crunchy and sat on a pile of chips which I took over half of the meal home because of size. You can tell this is farming community as there were a lot of Carhartts in the dining room. And when these guys come in from working, they want a good meal. Pepper Pod seems to please all. I just wish I had saved room for one of the home made pies. Maybe next time, I will just eat desert. read more

Okay... When they serve your steak on one plate and your baked potato on another...... Because they had too?? Wow!! The steaks were so tender, cooked perfect.. The salad was a typical salad bar.. 2 stars because I liked this place in the past and hope they turn things around. Was super excited to come back and take my son. Really bad overall. You could smell the bad grease from outside, I was hoping it was some other place, fries told the story, really gross. Change the oil! Chicken fried chicken bad, burger dry over cooked and bad. Pork and bean soup was pretty good though! Oh to top off the experience, the cashier did not say a single word to me throughout the paying process, not a hi, thank you, signature please, nothing, thought that was odd. Well my wife and I had heard good things about this restaurant and decided to go a bit out of the way and give it a try. I'm from the Northwest originally and as soon as I stepped in I felt like I had went back in time. I've been in dozens of places like this as a kid to a young adult and I felt right at home. My wife ordered the French Dip and I ordered the 'Junk Burger'. I apologize as I cannot remember the full title for the burger but you'll recognize it at once on the menu. My wife's french dip had bacon and cheese on it which is unusual but it worked and was quite tasty. The burger itself was nice and juicy and came on a thick bun. The sheer amount of toppings was dazzling but it worked and really added to the burger. If you are in the mood for some good old fashioned comfort food i recommend this place. We eat here regularly and have never been disappointed. The waitresses are less than thrilled to be serving, and never seem to be happy, but have never offered bad service, with things arriving on time and keeping drinks full. WoW! The food is amazing good! I have never had anything I have not liked. There can be a bit of a wait to get a seat if your going during a busy time of the week. The layout of the place is a bit of a miss however wow did I say how good the food was. I think they kill the pigs, cows and chickens in the back yard. The food is so fresh. The Cost is a little bit high but again I am willing to pay for the quality of food you get. The servers are nice and can be a great place for the family. It's funny to watch all the local ranchers come in with their cowboy hats and work pants. You can tell its a great place to go after a long day on the farm. HA! Love it! read more

This place is a good place if you have a lot of time to wait for your food... Waiters wouldn't refill our cups as frequently as i wanted the food once again took longer than expected .. Went there for the first time today, kind of a jaunt from home but we were looking at property in the area. Very good service, Michelle got to us quickly, got us our drinks fast and took our order with some very good suggestions. Good food, good sized servings, great service, what else could you ask for? Dessert, that's what, we shared a very big and tasty piece of peach cobbler with ice cream. 30 miles away is not too far for this place, we will return. read more

Vegan here, and just one glance at the menu told me my options were extremely limited. I wanted a baked potato but no margarine was available. There was not one vegan-friendly entree on the entire menu, and the menu appeared to be long. I understand I'm in the minority, but it really is not difficult to keep a few frozen vegan burgers around, or to have a vegan soup (lentil or chili?) as an option. But, this place appears to be stuck around 1987 or so, decor and otherwise. Dusty bison heads on the wall and old furniture and carpet.... you get the idea. They do have a salad bar but it had iceberg lettuce as the main attraction, and tubs of creamy-looking food service type cold side salads. My 83 year old mother found it adequate. The best part of my meal (I had fries) was the margarita which was surprisingly better than expected. Other members in the party had a burger which was reportedly quite greasy, and some kind of fried fish dish which was reportedly "good". Service was rather indifferent. No reason to ever return but it appears the locals are happy here. read more

A wrong turn off the freeway led us here, while driving back to Mpls from Denver. This place is for real. Boot scrapers outside the door, a ton of pickup trucks in the lot and cowboy hats on the patrons. We stopped for breakfast. There were lots of traditional and local options on the menu. I went with eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. The food was great, especially the bacon. They are not stingy with the breakfast meat- there were five huge pieces of thick-cut applewood-smoked bacon on my plate. The staff were laid-back and friendly, and I would eat there all the time if it wasn't 900 miles from home. read more

The breakfasts at the Pepper Pod are the best in Colorado! The omelets are big and fluffy and the hash browns are just the way you like them. The flavors are wonderful and the service is great. You can also a yummy Bloody Mary or Mimosa. My favorite place to eat Sunday breakfast. read more

The Pod is a good small town off the Hwy stop. If you have been in more than a few times they learn your name and your order. The food is nothing special, not horrible but consistent. Me & my fiancée are on the road all the time because of our business. We visit new places every day and most of them are mediocre. That's why is a real pleasure to come across restaurant like Pepper POD! Service was very nice and food delicious! We are Polish, so Paul decided to go with Polish sausage, and surprise! Prime Rib on Thursday and Saturday. The Prime Rib is actually really good. Food and service are about average for a sit down restaurant. The place must be bigger than it looks because even though the parking lot was full, wait time for a table was less than you'd encounter at a Red Lobster. OK, the decor is probably a little dated and it isn't as brightly lit as a Dennys, but the food is good and seems a lot of people in Hudson like to go there. They have some of the best prime rib I have ever eaten, never disappointed when I come here to eat.

I had the Mexi melt and enjoyed it for the most part; however, the service was below average and the restaurant could have been cleaner.

We went on a Friday, needless to say it was packed which is always a good sign. It took about 30 mins to sit and about 15 to get our food after ordering. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 is that they sit us at the kitchen door and the traffic was terrible! In fact I got bumped into twice. The food 5 stars, it was like stepping back in time to my grandmas table with her chicken fried chicken gravy, and cream potatoes. My son ate the Junk Burger and he loved it also! We are from Louisiana where food is a way of life, and cooking is a right of passage and that gravy was to die for!! read more

Prime Rib is one of the best I have had. I usually order prime rib about 2 times a year outside of the Pepper Pod and I'm always disappointed. Yes, it is pricey but where can you order great prime rib that isn't? I have learned that it is a very popular dish at the Pod so come early if you like it medium rare. Also I have learned that if I want it medium rare I need to order it rare! Problem solved! The horseradish is amazing! As for the service, reading the other reviews I agree it could be better. I could see where someone stopping in for the first time would be less than thrilled but after you get to know the staff most of them have great personality's and will joke around with you. Take into consideration the management only has so many good candidates to choose for reliable, fun, attentive help due to the small population of the area. I will continue to come for my prime rib as long as they continue to serve it. read more

A diamond in the ruff. The problem is its in the rough still. Place is dirty and in need of renovation and updating. I would rather use the restroom at loves across the street. Service was not good. Example; waitress was slow to bring refill drinks, while my wife was in the restroom the server tried to take our order (semi expecting me to know what my wife wanted. Does anyone really know what their wife's want?!? Haha) timing was bad took 1 hour to get in and out. Not really kid friendly but not their fault it is mostly a bar. Now you might say "well the server could have been busy at other tables". Yes but there were only 4 tables with people And 2 other servers. The reason this place is still here is the fact there are no other restaurants in hudson. The menu was lengthy. I ordered a Beth's junk burger and my wife ordered a steak salad. This is why I give this place 2 stars. The bacon was not fresh and had the consistency of a dogs raw hide chew bone. The grilled onions and mushrooms were pretty good but the steak and ground beef were had no flavor. The burger was large and greasy. I don't mind that but was big enough where you would just take bites of the party with no flavor. I would recommend bringing someone in and working with staff and cooks. The hall way by the restrooms had clutter which could lead to bad things. All in all I would recommend driving the extra 10 miles to chilis or Applebee's. Price justified quantity but overall did not justify quality. Did not visit the bar so I will not review that at this time but it looked like a dive bar in your average small town. Stopped in for breakfast on the way through town. Traditional breakfast offerings done right. I ended up with a classic...eggs, hash browns, and toast. It was right on, served quickly, with a smile.
