Best place north of Brighton. Food is very good, service good. Hard to find anywhere up here to eat, the pepper pod is the best choice.

Me and The Hubs had lunch here a couple weeks ago after visiting the Wild Animal Sanctuary. I must say that I was a little hesitant to stop here since it looked a bit dated from the outside, but it was convenient and we were starving. I was pleasantly surprised. Our server was very nice and the restaurant is spotless! It's obvious that these folks take pride in their business. I had a 1/3 pound cheeseburger and fries and it was quite good. It came with the usual lettuce, onion, and tomato (and I think pickles) and everything was crisp and fresh. The Hubs had the Chicken Parm sandwich and wasn't terribly enthused, but said it was OK. Best food: club sandwich, pasta pepper pod with chicken, CHICKEN FRIED CHICKEN, the ribeye for two with jumbo shrimp, honestly anything. My fav place. They don't skimp on drinks either. Soup is always good. But my fav is the club sandwich. read more

The food was very good. I had prime rib, my husband had fish & chips, the other couple had strip steak and sautéed mushrooms and 9 piece shrimp dinner. My prime rib and baked potato was perfect. My husband loved his, 2 large pieces, and we both took half of ours home. The other couple seemed to totally enjoy theirs, the shrimp was like the colossal shrimp and he said it was really good, his wife, seemed to really enjoy her dinner. The service was very good. The other couple said this is a favorite stop for them and they stop every time they come through. They have some semi truck parking. Everything was good, we will be stopping again on our next trip through. The décor was nice, chairs and bar stools were covered by cow hide. Lighting was good. There was a wait list, they said it would be 15-20 minutes wait, so we were going to sit and the bar and before our drink was served they gave us a table. Just out for a drive today and decided to stop for a bite to eat. Absolutely amazing good. My hubby has a sandwich and fries and he raves about both. I ordered the beer battered shrimp and it was so delicious. Much better than you get at red lobster or bonefish! We like it so much we're going back before our trip is over. Worth the shodrive from Denver! 12/29/2018 update....had to lower our rating. French dip sandwich was SO OVERDONE but hubby was starving and didn't want to wait to re-order. He should've waited. The food was ok. Burgers were over cooked. The food took one hour to come out. Asked about our order and received a defensive response that an 8 top ordered before us--they didn't we ordered before they arrived. Asked for ketchup and waited 10 minutes and finally asked the hostess who got it for us. We arrived around 1:30 and the place was not busy at all. We like to support local "Mom & Pop" restaurants when possible rather than "chains." We spent the night here in Hudson on our way west to Sedona, AZ. I chose our hotel based on the fact that this restaurant had outstanding reviews. When we pulled in the parking lot was full (a good sign). We were greeted & quickly seated by the very pleasant hostess. The atmosphere is very homey, welcoming, and comfortable. Then our wonderful server (Brooke) appeared who patiently answered all of our menu questions, however the best was yet to come. The food was outstanding to say the least. Home cooked, large portions, fresh salad & sides. I had the fish & chips with soup, pickled beets & corn (all fresh & home made). My wife had the country fried steak. Can't say enough good things about this place. The atmosphere, staff, and food all made this our most pleasant evening of our trip. If you are going to the Wildlife Sanctuary this restaurant is a must do. We had the best chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. Hand battered comes in two sizes, includes a side and a crisp cold salad. Every other Thursday they offer a cabbage hamburger baked in a huge loaf - offered as a special and not on the regular menu. Been going to the pepper pod for decades, always impressed. Sad when they discontinued the salad bar, but that's due to the Stupid Virus, not the restaurant. Menu has improved MUCH since I found them in the 1980s, and happy to see Dave is still involved, it is a classic family business!! Six of us arrived for dinner after being at the fairgrounds all day. We arrived about 4:40pm and were informed that the dinner specials don't start until 5pm and we're welcome to hang out at the table till then or order before. Well we decided to hang out for the prime rib. Three of us had the prime rib and it was pretty decent, nothing spectacular in my eyes. The horseradish was very hot, I loved it, and not to creamy. I do prefer to be able to dip my own meant in the juice and not have it covered for me. The other meals were, a cheese pizza for the kiddo, fried pork chops and a sirloin stake salad. I didn't hear any complaints about any of them. The salad and soup bar were included in the meals and was decent. We did order cheesecake, both NY style and a German chocolate. Neither were par for my liking. Both were made in house but not cooled properly and the top had fallen a lot. Our waitress seemed to be overtabled and had a hard time keeping up with empty glasses and clearing the salad plates before dinner arrived. read more

We love coming to the Pepper Pod. This is one of the only sit-down restaurants in our area, and it does not disappoint. We have always enjoyed everything we've ordered here, never a complaint. Portion sizes are ridiculous for sure. If you order the chicken fried chicken, it has to come out on its own plate. The fact that they have been around for 110 years is saying something. So the food wasn't great but not awful. The big problem is both of us got horribly upset tummies later that evening. I'm pretty convinced it was something in the salad bar which had no tomatoes or beets. We had leftovers for the kids but ended up tossing them because we were afraid the kids would get sick. The mac n chz sauce tasted like raw flour, my bacon on my club was either burned or rubbery. All the greens on my plate including the cukes were limp and wilted. Sad. The onion rings were ok but the onion wasn't really cooked. Hubs chicken had no flavor. He had ordered a loaded baked potato but got mashed instead and honestly those were the best tasting thing. Our server was super sweet but super busy so we waited for a long long time for our food. We will not be back. read more

I absolutely love this place. I have been bringing my teenage daughters here for good home-cooked comfort food for years. When you walk in you are greeted with smiles and warm faces. When you look at the menu it is easy to find something that you love. The menu is mostly traditional American foods with some nice healthy dishes mixed in. They have some smaller portions that you can pay less for which is a brilliant idea for growing kids that can't eat a full portion. My daughter gets the smaller NY strip with mashed potatoes and LOVES it. I am on a diet so I have the smaller chicken teriyaki with rice which is perfect. All entrees come with the salad bar which is full of fresh green salads and colorful vegetables that taste amazing every time. YUM! This place consistently serves high quality delicious meals that are good for growing bones... I'll never stop coming back. Kudos to the whole staff and owners. read more

I mean I get out a lot I've tried a ton of different burgers some , ok some good and a couple place that wow you Well this is a wow you burger Fresh ground daily home made bun that had a hint of King's Hawaiian taste to it. With perfectly grilled onions sweet with the caramelization and fresh sautéed mushrooms with dill pickle and banana peppers with mayo lettuce and a hint of bbq sauce and don't forget two slices of thick bacon It all works sort of sweet bun with onions offset with the dill pickle and banana peppers my mouth is watering writing about this and I just finished! Don't pass this one buy and eat at the ff chains at the gas stations. This place is just as close to the highway and damn good. Clean welcoming country western charm. Friendly staff. I went with the popular everything on it burger knowing that this I where I would have gotten the best steak available between here and Vegas. It was awesome. Unique flavor combination with plentiful topping that all got forked up if they fell off. The place has plenty of big chain competition with greater visibility and they are hopping on a Wednesday lunch hour. I don't have to tell Yelpers to skip theme chains and go for the privates. This is not a hidden dive but a 100 year family restaurant still kicking it with quality service and good tasting food. I guess you can say I liked it. read more

A local regular took my wife and I here one evening and my wife had a special of the day, Ham and Scalloped Potatoes. She is still raving about it over a month later. My friend and I had the Pork Chops and we're both Southern farm boys and I believe those were the best pork chops I've ever had! I don't get north of Denver often enough, but i will have to change that nasty routine just to make it to the Pepper Pod. Definitely worth the trip for fantastic food and efficient, courteous service. I'll be back as often as i can. read more

I ordered supper to go because of the virus. 3 to go. (3) Rocky Mountain Oysters, 3 sides. 2 with tater tots, 1 homemade chips. 3 salads, 1 W/ blu cheese. 2 W/ ranch. 1. First, the rocky mountain oysters were over cooked, Tough! Hard! Crispy Critters! Bad. 2. Second, Tater tots were still half frozen. Cold some bucks. Bad! Homemade chips tasted old! Bad! 3. Third, the salads were correct. Fresh ingredients, but the ranch dressing was very runny. (Like it had been watered down) Bad! I had to choose a star to write this review. One star given. I'm always on the lookout for places to eat on the road. After spending as much time as I do on the road, there's only fast food available most the time. I happen to see the Pepper Pod when I pulled off in Hudson for fuel at Loves. I decided to give it a try. When walking in, the first thing you notice is that the place is pretty dated. Maybe the locals are used to it and it's not a deal breaker, but it was a little off-putting. I got seated quick and the waitress took my order within a few minutes of being there. I ordered the country fried steak and it came with a side and a run through the salad bar. The country fried steak was pretty good. It had a white pepper sauce that accompanied it which was pretty good as well. The mashed potatoes I got as a side were fresh, which I was surprised to see because so many places use the instant stuff. Salad bar was decent, but they have no labels on the dressings, which is a pet peeve of mine. I'd stop here again. It was decent and it's way better than fast food. It's right off I-76 so it's easy to get to. read more

The Pepper Pod came highly recommended, so after a trip to The Wild Animal Sanctuary- we were feeling adventurous so we gave it a whirl... The place was packed, the staff seemed overwhelmed. We had to wait a while to order, and the food took forever, when it arrived, one entree was missing cheese, and the Rocky Mountain Oysters never made it to the table- thankfully, they didn't make it onto the bill either. When we requested the cheese that was supposed to be on the burger, the waitress seemed annoyed that we wanted the burger the way it was ordered. The meals weren't terrible, but they weren't anything to write home about either. Based on the 'tude of the staff- we won't be back. read more
