This is a pretty decent place for a cheeseburger, and they have a good selection of sandwiches and wraps, too. It is not the best food in town, but if what you want is a good burger and some crispy fries, this place will do the trick. The best tortilla soup we've ever had. This place is a little upscale for Silverton for sure but very nice. The artichoke dip appitizer is great. I wasn't too impressed with the KC strip but no serious complaints. We've eaten here 5-6 times over the last 3 years and will definatley go back. read more

We had lunch at the Pickle Barrel today. The staff and service were friendly and efficient. The dining area was clean. The food, not so much. I had the Steak and Cheese sandwich. The menu described it as Prime Rib, White cheese and grilled peppers on a homemade hoagie. I found it to be a very bland and insubstantial portion. The "hoagie" seemed more like a packaged hot dog bun. We also had the homemade broccoli cheese soup. Since it was slightly better than average our meal was not a total loss. You can make up your own mind about this place, we may have had just a bad experience. The waitress was very nice and when the whole experience went down hill tried to help. First off, we came in and three parties came in after us. All had their food delivered before we were served. They looked local and we are from LA so go figure. The salad we had was wilted. I should have known not to order any seafood this far from the coast but I ordered the seafood linguiene. I'm allergic to fish but the menu said shrimp and crab. It was made of immitation crab which is really white fish so I ordered a dish I was allergic to. The waitress offered to get me something else but since it was over an hour time wait with maybe five other tables in the place being served I opted not. We also got chicken parmesan which didn't have any bread crumbs and was a heated up piece of chicken with a ton of cheese on top. Cheese wasn't changed in color or texture by the oven, we speculated it was microwaved. Dinner was still $45, which was a waste. We paid, left, and went to mother flockers where we had good service and really great food fast and cheap. The only reason this didn't get one star was because our waitress was nice.m read more

We stopped of at The Pickle Barrel for lunch on our way back to Ouray. It was about the only place open. I had a Kobe Burger with cole slaw and my wife had their toasted ravioli salad. The Pickle Barrel was a complete disappointment!!! The food was terrible! The kids had a burger which they liked... my son asked for pickles on his burger and got a spear on the side! Really?! Isn't it called the Pickle Barrel? My husband and I got the green chile chicken and the philly! No flavor and dry! Yuck! My veggies had wayyyyy too much pepper and the baked potato was hard on one side. Where I'm from...you don't send food back to the kitchen! That's how it gets spit on so I didn't say anything until we left and the manager Paul was the rudest person ever!! He didn't even try to make it up to me! Came in on the train. Was snowy and 25 out. Pickle barrel was reco'd by a person on the train for a light lunch. My daughter had corn chowder which was awesome- bits of crab and a flavorful broth. Sandwiches were delish. Shared Apple pie after which had a buttery crust. Totally hit the spot. Love the staff. Mahalo for the warm fire , friendly staff and great food in our bellies! read more

Rode the Durango-Silverton narrow Gauge Rail last week had a couple hours in Silverton while awaiting the return trip to Durango. There were many choices in town for lunch we decided to try "The Pickle Barrell" turned out to be a great choice. The menu offered a good variety to choose from. I had the portabella burger with caeser salad. It was very good ! The service was freindly as well. The service at this restaurant is by far the worst of any restaurant I have ever been to. You would think that a server in a small town that thrives on tourism would provide world class service. This was not at all the case. In our case we waited at least fifteen minutes before our existence was made aware. When we ordered an appetizer it did not come with the sides as listed in the menu. We had to ask for them and it was like pulling teeth. In fact pulling teeth would have been easier. The food was nothing special. Granted the greens where crisp and that's about where the good news ends. The flavors did not match and or had none all together. I would rate this restaurant higher even with bad food if the service was better. It really was just that bad. Be very careful, servers will up sell you sides with out even telling you they cost more. If your lucky the sever will even talk back to you, just as she did in our case! Eater beware!! We stopped in here for lunch (4 Adults). I was craving a burger so I ordered the Kobe beef burger ($15) My buddy followed suit. Both very disappointed! Over-priced, under-flavored experience. We also had to pay extra for fries ($2 per) Our wives ordered salads (fried ravioli on top) and it was a joke! The lettuce was not fresh and there was no dressing on the salad. They had to ask for sides of dressing. I am usually very forgiving with the service and food when it's my first experience eating somewhere. Every person and place has a bad day but I can not over look this experience. After spending $70 + and knowing we would've eaten better at Wendy's...BUYER BEWARE!! read more
