The food here is not good. Ordered the fried shrimp and a chicken quesadilla and it cost around $28. Called ahead and still had to wait 10 mins after the order was supposed to be ready. All this would be fine if the food was quality. The shrimp were ok, but the 1 star review is warranted due to the quesadilla. Probably the worst quesadilla I've ever had. There were barely any pieces of chicken in it and it was mostly warm onions. I feel like the restaurant owes me a REAL quesadilla and an apology, but the chances of that happening are low. read more

Okay, two days ago I stopped in with a friend of mine and his mom and we were starving for lunch. It did not disappoint. I had the Alfredo penne with all he tuna which was delicious. The tune is cooked perfectly and we all said calamar to begin with and one of us had chili and chili and chips and it was outstanding. Everything was wonderful. The drinks will well poured. I've been here a couple times because the food is actually pretty good. However, the service consistently leaves much to be desired (this is coming from someone who tends to be very lenient after working in the service industry for many years). Even when the place is basically empty you're stuck chasing down a waitress or bartender when you need something. The wings were pretty good but a little overly sauced. I also got the chicken wrap with the ranch on the side and it was good - lots of chicken in it and the wrap is toasted which makes it even better. My friend got the same but with buffalo sauce and really liked it. The sweet potato fries were also really tasty. Don't come here if you are an African American. Here is what I experienced. I was never greeted when I walked in the door but ALL white patrons received a warm welcome that entered after me were greeted immediately. I ate at the bar and I feel if there wasn't a black person working there no one would have ever taken my order. The person at the bar started taking orders of everyone around me. The atmosphere was COLD and UNINVITING. I will never eat here again or recommend anyone that I know to eat here. Can we just get past treating black people as second class citizens? I pay my money just like everyone else and deserve the same treatment. I wouldn't have left a tip except my waitress was black person and the only one who spoke or acknowledged me to entire time I was at the restaurant. It is obvious that people of color are not welcome.....which is a shame in 2024!!! The Pickled Onion SUCKs EGGs if it had not been for Chrissy It would have been the worst experience ever!!!!!!!! I have ordered from this restaurant through Doordash several times, and I'm really pleased. Their club sandwiches are consistently good, and the portions are massive. I was pleased at their shrimp platter as well. I like their buffalo wings, although they're a little pricey. read more

We had a stop over in the area during the WNSL championship and were looking for a sports bar and the top choices on Yelp didn't look good. We went to one and the food was decent, they weren't that too into changing the channel to a women's sporting event for a couple of lesbians and they closed early. The server recommended the Pickled Onion and we are so glad they did. They have individual TVs, good drinks, vegetarian options and staff is so friendly. OMG. I wish we started here. Writing this review to hopefully make this bar move up on the Yelp ratings so the next folks traveling through will find it! We watched the soccer game, had some yummy drinks and got some merch. The seared tuna sandwich was as poor a quality of "ahi" tuna as I can recall ever eating. Tasteless, and no way near anything remotely fresh. At least the sweet potato fries were good. Decent food with large portions, but very loud both indoors and out. We tried to sit outside to enjoy the live music but it was so loud we could not even shout over it and the smokers outside were right beside the front door en mass. Inside there was no smoking, but the music was turned up too loud in there as well so everyone in the place was yelling to be heard. No one wore masks. Have always passed by it when I have been out running errands and wanted to check it out. Today was a raining day and perfect for hanging out. The inside has lots of seating with individual televisions at your table top near the bar. Darts to challenge a friend by the back wall and live entertainment every Saturday night. We got the Pork Belly Smack and Bourbon Street Chicken which was all good. However, the Homemade Apple Jack Bread Pudding was fabulous! We will definitely be back! read more

Wow! Just incredible service tonight. The wait staff works "tavern style," meaning they are not assigned to sections. Instead, every server is responsible for ensuring the experience quality for every guest. My drink glass was never less than half full. I needed napkins, I got napkins. Plus the food was great. Chicken wings that were juicy and well seasoned, along with a dip called "chicken crack." I'm leaving The Pickled Onion (and Raleigh) full and happy! It's pretty standard fare, nothing great but nothing bad. I'm vegetarian and have had their Caesar salad and a black bean burger. That's about it on the whole menu, other than appetizer snacks. It'd be nice if they offered more vegetarian variations, although I have to admit I didn't ask about too much on changes. Such as getting "The Philly" without meat and have sauteed mushrooms instead. I'm sure it might be fine since they have mushrooms as the vegetarian option on the "Quesadilla," although it's also $1.50 less than the meat option. Most places don't decrease the price when meat is replaced with a vegetable (or omitted completely). Could be interesting to find out if they'd drop the price on all meat dishes subbed with mushrooms. I may be going back soon, when I'm there I'll ask the waitperson what I can do, especially if it's not packed. I don't want to be the guy with a ton of modifications while the kitchen is barely keeping up with the crowd! read more

My husband and I ate at The Pickled Onion yesterday for the first time. We were greeted shortly after we sat down and after we ordered, our food came out quickly, hot, and delicious! I had the hangover burger, which was cooked perfectly, and had a side of pub chips. Yum! My husband had the chicken tenders and fries. The tenders were very good - juicy and tender. We came to the new Pickled Onion for the first time. The restaurant is nice and has a good sized bar. They also have a darts league and events they host. The service was really incredible. I can't say we didn't try...three strikes and your out for me on restaurants. Management is crass at best and makes promises on events and then cancels on multiple occasions. It's a real shame the current staff is in place or would be a great place to go. Has the makings for a good neighborhood bar however the staff makes it untenable.
