I live in Miami and it was my Moms birthday. I ordered their Chocolate Cake on a Sunday. They were short staffed but the owner of the place still delivered the cake once they closed. Talking to the manager was so nice because they treated me as if I was a part of their family, and she didn't even know me. We had a 2 star lunch. There was no one visible when we entered, the place was dark, TV was on. Looking thru the pie case, we learned every pie they advertise isn't available--maybe 8 to 10 are. We sat down and an unsmiling older woman came out, giving us our drinks in styro cups and plastic straws. Later a younger woman took over. We ordered quiche. They only had 2 of the 4 kinds available. Both arrived looking okay, but taste and texture were off. We presumed they were frozen and nuked, not fresh. Oddly spongey, the broccoli was VERY wet and both were salty. Pieces were small but only $5. They came with 2 seedy crackers-an odd match. We would never do lunch here again. (Down the aisle by the bathrooms was a sign "due to heavy pie order, no lunch will be served" so one might not even get served upon arrival.) We drove an hour for rhubarb pie. No rhubarb pie. No strawberry rhubarb pie. We got apple razberry pie & salted caramel cheesecake. Option to warm the pie. I didn't enjoy the fruit pie-a little sour, but my friend did. The caramel cheesecake was good, tho my friend thought too sweet. I brought 2 slices of pie home for family--the coconut crème pie was fabulous, the peanut butter/fudge swirl pie was good. They were not equally sized. They must do a good whole pie, special order business, to keep them in business. We would try other pies but not drive there special for it. The lunch, the ambiance and the service were sub par, some of the desserts were great. The high reviews and the overall high rating on YELP steered us wrong on this one. read more

We heard about the pie factory while staying in Florida so we wanted to try it. There is a wide variety of pies available everyday with a few for special order. Most are $20. We bought the mixed apple/berry, which is a large slice each of apple, peach, cherry and blueberry. While every type was delicious, I don't believe the pies are made from scratch... the crust is too perfect and has a "commercial" taste. The other bakery items were just ok looking, nothing I wanted to add to my order. The staff at the pie factory is extremely slow as I waited in line for 15 minutes with only one person ahead of me! Glad I tried it but I believe I can get the same type of pie for less money in a large supermarket. read more

I've been yearning for a Pecan Pie which I used to bake myself. No longer. Was not impressed by the slices at Walmart or even Publix. I figured The Pie Factory was the place! Stopped in and was in process of paying a whopping $18 for the pie when I noticed the crust had fallen off in places. The counter lady went and retrieved another in the back. Ok! So now, let me tell you about the pie.. as soon as I cut a slice, the crust fell off. So what? I'm going to eat it. No problem! The pecans were all on top, still ok, but the filling was the most disgustingly sweet sticky mess ever. Rather than dispose of the whole pie, I froze it. I consider myself a bit of a "pie connoisseur" since I was raised on made-from-scratch desserts. Chips Ahoy and Sara Lee were not welcome in our home. My mom baked all of our cookies, pies and cakes from her flour stained Betty Crocker cookbook. The Pie Factory in Largo, Florida has been family owned and operated for 25 years. They are known for their Key Lime Pie recipe that has been handed down for generations. Personally, I prefer pies with fruit fillings so I decided to purchase the fruit pie sampler instead. The fruit pie sampler consisted of quarter pie sized portions from four different types of fruit pie: Apple, Cherry, Peach and Blueberry. While the crust wasn't quite as good as my mom's the crust was made-from-scratch, flakey and buttery. The Pie Factory uses a double crust on their fruit pie which I find incredibly important for a good fruit pie. Anyone can make a decent crumble topping, but a double pie crust requires skill. The fruit filling was fresh, not from a can. My husband really wanted to try the Key Lime Pie so he got a slice in addition to our fruit sampler pie. It was fine. I don't think I am the hugest fan of Key Lime Pie so I'm not sure what makes a Key Lime Pie amazing. I could tell real key limes were used instead of powdered flavoring. My only negative comment is that the décor at The Pie Factory could use some sprucing up. There is not much atmosphere here so we just ordered our pie to-go. Also, I would suggest serving real cream with the coffee instead of the single serve coffee creamer cups. read more

The slices of pie are pricey ($4/slice) and not very big for that pricey cost. The whole pies are a better price $12-$16. I would go again to try a whole pie but never again will I have lunch there nor get just a slice of pie or cake (cake more expensive - $5/slice). I had the snickers pie... very rich; pretty good. I had my first visit to the Pie Factory this year for my little Thanksgiving Feast. I drove out to Largo with excitement wondering if the reviews were true. When I arrived the line was all the way out the door and around the building with people waiting to pick up their pre-order. When what I discovered were Pies that were just OK and for me way too sweet. All three flavors were so sweet I could barely eat them. We landed on key lime supreme, bourbon pecan, lemon mascarpone and white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. The bourbon pecan was the best one, followed by lemon, followed by key lime, followed by cheesecake. The pie was good but it wasn't the best ever. Also, their urges were super small compared to other places for the same price. Lastly the supreme lost its shape and the cheesecake wasn't tasty. The strawberry rhubarb I thought was heavy on the rhubarb, but was tasty nonetheless. If you are a fan of peanut butter fudge (and if you're not, what's wrong with you?!?) you HAVE to try this one. Soooo good! Thank god we found this delicious place - the best Apple and Berry Pies EVER! Peach was my favorite but every single one of us was all over these flavors and had our favorite. "Meh." I really do wish that I could say more. The problem is that I've had Key Lime pie in Key West and that I've had apple pie from Frida's. That said, if you've never had Key Lime pie in Key West, this is the best you're going to get. It's very well made, it just doesn't have the tang that I'm used to. They serve primarily pies, but they do have a few other items at a time such as chili and quiche.
